Since switching the Doncaster retail store to a warehouse operation, we have a number of heavy duty wine racks that are surplus to requirements. Custom made for a retail environment but adaptable to a home or large cellar, unlike most equivalents on the market today, these racks are built largely from solid oak, not cheap soft woods such as pine. The racks sit on heavy duty castors for ease of movement, even when fully loaded. A removable top shelf allows for additional storage, giving each unit a holding capacity of around 200 bottles. The spacings in the racks and shelves are designed to accommodate most bottle shapes on the market today.

The racks are in very good to excellent condition, but having been stored in a warehouse will require some dusting.  Because the racks were used in a busy retail wine shop, there will be minor wear and tear, mostly to some of the timber skirtings around the base of the units. Being oak means any scratches can usually be sanded back and the timber restored.
Do your research and you’ll find the price is very reasonable considering the increasing cost of quality hard woods and cabinet making.
The main units are 735mm high, 920mm wide and 1260mm long. For an inspection, further inquiries, or more photographs, email Yuri at [email protected]

Light, stony and elegant with vibrant fresh fruit and an energetic saline laced finish.

Nestled in the French Alps near Chambéry, the Savoie region was once a thriving wine-producing area with 20,000 hectares under vine. Today, only 3,000 hectares remain, with much of the replanting occurring on flatter, machine-friendly terrain at the cost of quality. However, in 1998, a group led by Denis Perroux and pioneering biodynamic winemaker Michel Grisard revived the abandoned Coteau de Cevins, a historic slope once renowned for its wines. Replanted with traditional Savoie varieties and cultivated biodynamically, it quickly reclaimed its reputation as one of France's most exciting vineyard sites.

Domaine des Ardoisières was established to champion this unique terroir, with Brice Omont taking the helm in 2005 to continue Grisard's vision. The dramatic 60% inclines of Cevins are planted with a mix of native grapes, including Persan, Mondeuse Noire, Altesse, Roussanne, Mondeuse Blanche, Malvoisie, and Jacquère. With meticulous vineyard work and extremely low yields, the wines from this site—Quartz, Schiste, and Améthyste—express the depth and energy of the region's metamorphic soils. Every step, from cultivation to vinification, is shaped by the contours of the land, reinforcing the estate's commitment to purity and place.

Beyond Cevins, Omont expanded the Domaine in 2008, planting on the limestone and schist-rich slopes of St Pierre de Soucy. This site gives rise to the Argile cuvées, offering a different expression of Savoie through Gamay, Mondeuse Noire, Persan, Jacquère, Chardonnay, and Mondeuse Blanche. In 2015, he further expanded with the highly regarded Silice cuvée, made from exceptional Jacquère plantings. Today, Domaine des Ardoisières stands at the forefront of Savoie’s resurgence, crafting wines that capture both the raw Alpine energy and the meticulous craftsmanship behind this remarkable Domaine.

Silice is 100% Jacquere planted on schist and clay that yields as a plush and mineral white wine that is incredibly light on its feet for an expression that has such intensity of flavour and texture. This is a compelling bottle of wine that speaks of its alpine origin, echoing its terraced vineyards with its bold, stony and mineral character.
Brilliant pale straw to straw colour with a watery hue. Gentle lime and green apple scents mix with some pear skin, subtle floral and wet stone notes. Light and stony in it’s feel, elegant flavours of green apple and lime meld into a citrusy mineral, fresh herb and wet stone back drop. Brisk, energetic acidity with a very fresh and focused saline laced finish.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

One of my favourite Savoie producers, well priced for access, per se, and very good and consistent quality. A focus on the white variety, jaquére, grown in various plots across Ardoisiéres vineyard sites. Organic farmed.
It’s such a pleasing drink, straight up. Soft, white peach and preserved lemon, tonic water, green apple, gentle talc and subtle brine notes, generally a sense of ‘minerality’ and a little chalkiness and juiciness hand-in-hand. While tasting is a professional pursuit, sometimes you drink the whole bottle with friends in the sun, mea culpa, and that is the finest endorsement. Drink 2025-2029.

Nestled in the French Alps, Domaine des Ardoisières is at the heart of Savoie's revival, crafting wines that capture the region’s raw Alpine energy. The once-abandoned Coteau de Cevins was revived in 1998 by Denis Perroux and biodynamic pioneer Michel Grisard, and since 2005, Brice Omont has continued their vision, cultivating its steep, schist-rich slopes with native varieties. His expansion to the limestone and schist soils of St Pierre de Soucy in 2008 further enriched the domaine’s range, producing vibrant, terroir-driven cuvées like Quartz, Schiste, Améthyste, and Argile. Today, Domaine des Ardoisières stands as a benchmark for Savoie, proving the region’s potential through meticulous craftsmanship and a deep respect for the land.

The Argile Blanc is a blend of 40% Jacquere, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Mondeuse Blanche grown on western facing slopes on soils of schist and clay. The wine is fermented with native yeast and aged for nine months in vat. The Argile Blanc showcases an abundance of alpine tension and refreshment with flavours of white flowers, orchard fruits and green almonds.

Envínate, which literally translates as “Wine Yourself,” is the project of four young passionate winemakers: Roberto Santana (based in the Canaries), Jose Martinez (Almansa), Laura Ramos (Murcia) and Alfonso Torrente (Ribeira Sacra). The four met while studying oenology in Alicante in 2005 and formed a collective based on a shared philosophy of wine and a desire to explore the ancient, Atlantic influenced terroirs of western Spain.

In 2008, the group bought their first vineyard in Ribeira Sacra, then took control of vineyards on the north side of Tenerife, and followed with a single patch of Tinta Amarela in Extremadura. Finally, in 2012, the group began working with a site in Almansa, where Jose lives and works, planted to Garnacha Tintorera. In each region, they work old, previously abandoned vineyards, but importantly for a project with such spread, one of the team lives full time in each location, working the vineyards year round.

After the Chingao bottling, there is a creamy and spicy whiff in the 2023 Albahra, which makes it feel more mainstream. It's juicy and aromatic and has a medium-bodied palate, contained ripeness, 13% alcohol and good balance, with some fine-grained tannins. Last year, they introduced some white Pardilla grapes in the blend that seem to have given it freshness and a kick in the palate, which is Mediterranean, with good freshness and a balanced mouthfeel. 67,000 bottles and 600 magnums produced. It was bottled in June 2024. Drink 2025-2030.

We've tasted several attempts at oat whiskies, however this one succeeds in delivering something extra - as though the essence of the grain has being captured or perhaps like a bowl of bircher muesli; re-tasting after air contact finds something fruity behind the toasty cereals, like plums and dried apricots, even hints of blueberry muffin with honeyed tones from the Virgin oak in support. It adds up to a plump and gorgeous ‘breakfast whisky’ (as some might call it). Few distilleries have harnessed the grain in such an authentic way. 53.7% Alc./Vol.

    Sauternes, Bordeaux, FRANCE

    $19188.00 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

As the only Sauternes property classified as Premier Cru Superieur, drinking a bottle of Chateau d'Yquem is an experience unlike any other. Situated in the epicentre of prime sweet wine production in France, their unique position and wealth of soil profiles allows d'Yquem to produce wines of enormous complexity with consistent accumulation of botrytis often in years when others struggle.

The 2022 Chateau d’Yquem is a vintage shaped by extremes—the driest and hottest year on record at the estate, with an exceptionally early start to the season. Noble rot developed late, and a dramatic shift in mid-October led to rapid concentration, resulting in Yquem’s most opulent wine since 1945, with 160 g/L residual sugar. Despite the richness, meticulous blending and shorter elevage ensure remarkable freshness and balance in this extraordinary Sauternes.

    Other Reviews....
A blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2022 d'Yquem is a strong candidate for the title of wine of the vintage. Exhibiting a remarkably delicate, complex and energetic bouquet of rose, confit citrus, exotic fruits and orange marmalade, it's full-bodied, dense and deep with a pristine balance enhanced by a fleshy core of fruit, bright acids and beautiful, gastronomic bitterness and dry extracts that segue to a long, ethereal, delicately perfumed and refined finish. Lorenzo Pasquini and his team have perfectly understood the vintage by privileging the third tries, fully exposed to Botrytis cinerea, in the blend, bringing density and precision along with an energetic and splendidly balanced interplay of bitterness and sweetness. Residual sugar levels reach 160 grams per liter, marking it as the second-highest since the iconic 1945 vintage. Drink 2034-2074.

Yohan Castaing - Wine Advocate (Jan 17, 2025)

The 2022 Yquem is a blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc with 160 g/L residual sugar and a total acidity of 5.39 g/L. It is the first certified organic vintage for the estate and has the lowest level of total sulphur ever: 234 g/L, high within the sphere of wine but comparatively low for Sauternes. The 2022 was aged for 24 months in new barrels that underwent slightly less drying than those used for red wines in order to retain some green tannins. Given the growing season, the 2022 Yquem has a surprisingly understated bouquet that demands coaxing. Scents of orange pith, passion fruit and quince are exquisitely defined, a hint of chamomile dancing around in the background. The palate is medium-bodied. Given the high level of residual sugar, what is surprising is that the 2022 does not seem a weighty or texturally unctuous Yquem, yet there is an intensity and concentration that is arresting. Vivid flavours of clementine, wild honey, quince and tangerine that effortlessly combine. The acidity almost nonchalantly counters the sensation of residual sugar, so it feels less than it actually is, the scintilla of salinity toward the finish tempting you back for more. This is a marvellous and quite cerebral Yquem for which patience is required. Drink 2030-2100.

    Neal Martin - Vinous

A perfect Yquem again after the 2021, which is fresher and more refined than the 2022. The perception of sweetness is super-knit. Lots of botrytis, with turmeric, saffron, cream, roasted meringue, pine nuts, spices and dried mangoes. This is a powerful, seductive and lush wine. Ornamented and richer this year than 2021, but there is so much charm and harmony. Long and spicy, with a hint of petrol at the end. Wow. The second most concentrated Yquem after 1945, according to the winemaker. About 160 grams of residual sugar. So approachable now, but better in five or six years. It will live forever.

Combining incredible power, sweetness, and opulence with racy acidity and a touch of bitterness on the backend offsetting all the rich, honey-slathered fruits, it takes only a single sniff and sip to discern that this is one of the great vintages produced by Chateau d'Yquem. That says a lot, considering all the fabulous vintages the estate has crafted. The palate showcases its wealth of honeyed fruits alongside Indian spices and a vibrancy found in no other sweet wine. The wine envelops your palate, teeth, and gums leaving you with a zesty finish that lingers for a full 60 seconds and more! This is a legend in the making! Like all great vintages of Chateau d'Yquem, you can enjoy this with pleasure in its youth, with its sweet, ripe fruits showcasing a unique sense of honeyed purity, or you can save it for your grandchildren. Drink from 2027-2100.

A classic in waiting, this 2021 Cabernet Shiraz is serene with all its pieces in their perfect place. Composed and highly complex as it delivers wafts of fresh cassis, gravel, black olive, Italian herbs and peppery spice. Vibrant youthful flavours are underlined by fine and chalky tannins that hold the palate tight through to an extremely long finish. This wine will sing for years to come. Drink 2032-2050.

Crisp, zingy Sauvignon Blanc finishing dry, tight and steely.

Brilliant water like core with greenish tinged edges. A mix of passionfruit, lime and green apple scents leap from the glass trailed by some subtle herbaceous gooseberry and mineral notes. Crisp and zingy in its feel across the palate, Granny Smith apple, lime and passionfruit flavours are underpinned by racy acidity. Some delicate herbaceous and flinty mineral components extend across the back half. Finishes long, dry and steely with a zesty edge.

Geoff Weaver's first plantings of sauvignon blanc were in '78. This has texture and interest on its side, elevating the variety to something special and more substantial. It does show off benchmark characters of lime, passionfruit and just-ripe pineapple with sniffs of cut grass and basil herbal elements. The palate follows suit similarly, but with more depth than expected, a clatter of limey-briny acidity amongst fruitiness and subtle river-pebble mineral notes. It floods the senses, finishing long and refreshing. Very good. Drink by 2028.

Complex and mouth filling with lemony acidity lending freshness to an otherwise waxy feel.

Bright straw colour with straw green tinged edges and a watery hue. Evolving from the glass are aromas of lime and green apple overlaid with notions of oily toast like characters, subtle bees wax, lemon butter and hints of kerosene. Mouth filling lime, green apple and toast flavours infused with kerosene are delivered with excellent intensity and textural volume. Notions of bees wax and lemon butter linger underneath. Lemony acidity lends freshness and energy to the long complex finish that has a waxy feel to it.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

Quite an intense colour, and very appetising perfume, there’s shortbread, a hint of vanilla custard, melon skin, yellow apple. It’s ripe and spicy, full in flavour, feels somewhat broad and generous but with lovely detail and it glides through the palate, not being heavy at all. Texture and bitter grip come with yellow fruit skins, ginger, wild honey and crushed cumin aftertaste. Drinks very well now but Elizabeth surprises with time too. Drink 2024-2030+

Produced by a husband and wife team whose wines have previously featured under our Nicks Secret guise, this Shiraz delivers on Barossa Valley’s hallmark power and richness yet is both complex and refined. Sourced from a single vineyard located in the Greenock sub district, it’s matured for 19 months in French oak of which 10% is new.

Sensuous Barossa Shiraz that combines complexity with a refined opulence.

Impenetrable inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Filling the nostrils are enticing scents of dark plum, liquorice, blackberry and blueberry which are complimented by some smoked earth, dried herb, vanillin cedar and peppered dried meat notes. Rich, plush and sensuous across the medium to full bodied palate, expansive spicy dark plum, liquorice, black cherry and blueberry fruits overlay a dried herb, scorched earth, subtle black olive and peppered dried meat back drop. Displaying a refined opulence, it has slightly grainy tannins and concludes long, fresh and succulent with a savoury edge.

Shiraz sourced from the Materne family vineyard in Greenock; matured in a 3000L French oak vat and puncheons. ******* have been in fine form lately and this shiraz from the western Barossa is on song. It's got a real ferrous, meaty edge this year which is really appealing. Fruit all pure plum, blackberry and black cherry with hints of dried herbs, roasting game meats, earth, olive tapenade, wood spice and pressed flowers. Powdered, sandy tannins, fine, lacy acidity and a core of fruit that travels long and true on the finish. Drink by 2040.

Dave Brookes – James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion

This is the eleventh release I have seen of this wine and this 2023 from a cooler year is easily the best.
From a single vineyard planted in 1988 just to the north of Greenock, this patch has been farmed by the Materne family for four generations. It sees a seasoned 3000L French oak vat and puncheons (10% new) for 19 months prior to bottling (unfiltered).
What a start! Dried violets and purple flowers, baked blueberries and mulberries – the opening is fragrant and oh-so inviting. The shape and weight are guided by the 13.6% alcohol and the flow it delivers is blisteringly good. Davidson plums, blue and purple fruits mingle with melted chocolate, black earth, twigs and floral tea. Juicy and devilishly moreish, it moves and sways about with supreme ease. The longer it sits, the more detail comes to the fore. Char, pan juices and cola cling to a captivating finish brushed with delicate spices. A long, moreish length oozes class. Brilliant stuff.

    $563.88 Dozen
    Cellar: Drink now - 8 Years (2025-2033)

Plush and velvety with a long sumptuous finish.

One of Yalumba’s distinguished site wines, the Paradox is sourced from the Northern Barossa and is made with an emphasis on velvet like texture and the use of less new oak than many of its counterparts. Maturation taking place in French oak puncheons, with only 10% new oak employed, for a period of 16 months.
Dense pitch black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Potent blackberry, dark plum and liquorice aromas waft from the glass followed by some subtlety smoked vanillin cedar, scorched earth and blackpepper notes. Rich and plush the full bodied palate is awash with blackberry, dark plum and liquorice fruit. Smoky vanillin cedar, earthy mocha and peppered fennel elements lie beneath. Outstanding power with velvet smooth tannins and a long sumptuous finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
