The 2025 Belgrave reveals an attractive bouquet of dark berries, cassis, mulberries and spice, becoming more floral with aeration. Medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it’s structured and tannic, with good length, concluding with a gently lead pencil–inflected finish. The gravelly terroir asserts itself more clearly than in recent vintages, lending the wine added finesse and a more defined mineral edge.

Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Belgrave is impressive. Aromatic, deep and layered, Belgrave has so much to offer. Blue-toned fruits, lavender, espresso and chocolate are front and center. The 2025 is juicy but quite structured. It appears to have a very bright future. Floral overtones extend the nuanced finish. Tasted two times. Drink 2030-2045.

A precise and characterful wine with aromas of black currants, black cherries and crushed stones. Medium-bodied with a juicy finish. Terrific wine. Only 13% alcohol. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot.

    James Suckling

Juicy and lively, supple and fleshy with a strawberry juice vein – a little chalky still on the mid-palate – just losing some of the initial vibrancy but this has lots of tannin presence with a long, salty, cola grip. I like the depth and the frame, this is one that will benefit from ageing. Cool wild blueberry notes on the nose. Fully tannic but bouncy and soft, really cushioning with blueberry. I like the purity and focus, it’s a little light in terms of persistence but there’s balance and it'll round out. Harvest 3rd September until the 19th. 13%. A yield of 24hl/ha. Pénélope Godefroy now technical director across the Maison Dourthe portfolio. Drink 2033-2044.

2025 Chateau Pape Clement Pre-Arrival Offer
    Pessac Leognan, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $170. 00
    Bottle
    $2040.00 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Named after its most famous owner, Pope Clement V, Chateau Pape Clement in Pessac Leognan makes both red and white wine from their 32.5 hectare vineyard. Vineyards for the red wine is planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, while the soils here are a complex mix of gravel and clay over a base of clay, limestone and sandstone. Maturation takes place in 100% new French oak, and while Bernard Magrez has refined the style since taking over winemaking duties the wines are still rich and lush in style with a concentration of ripe fruit.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 Pape Clément is magnificent. The aromatics alone are captivating. Strong floral and savory notes soar from the glass. Lavender, rose petal, sage, mint and mocha lead into a core of wonderfully vibrant red/purplish fruit. Medium in body and deep, Pape Clément is positively stellar in 2025. The Cabernets and Petit Verdot add tons of aromatic presence. Élevage is 85% in barrique and 15% in foudre, with a relatively modest 33% new oak. Drink 2035-2065.

A linear and very tight red with black currant, blackberry and hazelnut undertones. It's medium- to full-bodied with firm and racy tannins and a savory finish. Lots of tannins, but they are very fine textured and show outstanding length. 60% merlot, 36% cabernet sauvignon, 3% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot.
    95-96 points
    James Suckling

Really floral on the nose, expressive with ripe red and black fruit, incense perfumed scents and a rich headiness with such aromatic purity. Supple and velvety, round and lively with quite a delicate style here where the focus is on the clarity of the blueberry fruit and the lifted aspects rather than fleshiness or power. Almost understated, a word not often used with Pape. A soft salty, wet stone and chalky aspect on the finish. Definitely fresh with lots of energy here. Elegant and precise with a soft chew on the finish and ripe fruit. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 3.68pH. A yield of 29hl/ha. Ageing 85% in barrels (1/3 new) and 15% in foudres. Harvest 3–25 September. Drink 2028-2045.

Rich, vivid and textured, the 2025 Pape Clément Blanc is outrageously beautiful. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, tangerine peel, mint and white pepper soar from the glass. All the elements are so well balanced. This builds beautifully through to the intense, palate-staining finish. In 2025, the Blanc is quite simply magnificent—clearly one of the wines of the vintage. Drink 2030-2040.

This is enveloping, with a broad textural element running throughout. It’s bright and incisive, yet with a blanket of fruit that extends across the palate. Flavorful and long. A blend of 56% sauvignon blanc, 30% semillon and 14% sauvignon gris. Aged in barrels, foudres, concrete, amphorae and stainless steel.

Straw, ripe peach and some waxy lemon aspects with really floral and fragrant aromas on the nose – smells rich and enticing. Beautiful succulence with a dollop of pineapple, lemon and lime, creamy vanilla and peach plus a touch of oiliness that gives amplitude and width. I love the intensity and delicacy here, a wine you really want to drink, full of fruit yet crystalline, focused, mineral, saline and salivating with fruit purity and impressive length. Some enjoyable pineapple bitterness with struck match and oyster shell salinity. Gorgeous precision and clarity – really nothing out of place. A glass I wanted more of immediately. 3.14pH. A yield of 18hl/ha. Ageing 65% in barrels (1/3 new), 16% in foudres and 21% in stoneware, concrete and stainless steel. Drink 2028-2038.

The 2025 Lacoste-Borie, a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, planted at a lower density of 7,000 vines per hectare (versus 9,000 for Grand-Puy-Lacoste), is now more clearly defined and no longer conceived simply as a second wine. It reveals a gourmand, fresh bouquet of red berries, followed by a medium-bodied, juicy and elegant palate framed by fresh, velvety tannins and concluding with a long, ethereal and fruity finish. This is a refined and very appealing wine.
    91-93 points
Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Lacoste-Borie is now labelled "Vignes du Parc", in reference to the fact that this comes from different soils and planting density, i.e. different to Grand Puy Lacoste. It has a vivacious bouquet with abundant redcurrant and strawberry scents, well defined, with just a light hint of bell pepper from the 8% Cabernet Franc. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, good tension, a seam of graphite that pins it down as Pauillac. Modest length. This has a pleasing rondeur that will make it approachable and charming, yet there is still fine substance. This would make a perfect introduction to the delights of Pauillac. Drink 2030-2050.

This is concentrated and medium- to full-bodied, with detailed, linear fruit complemented by precise, focused tannins. Savory finish with a cedar note. Fine tannins. 68% cabernet sauvignon, 24% merlot and 8% cabernet franc.

    James Suckling

Beautiful vibrant colour in the glass with a pink rim. So fragrant with rose petals and red cherries – smells pristine, really clear and clean. Smooth and sappy with lovely succulence straight away and mouthwatering acidity. This is delicious, tastes like grape juice with grippy tannins and a chalky, graphite finish. Crunchy, delicate yet super flavourful, crisp with high acidity and lovely Cabernet freshness plus mint, aniseed and clove spice. Strength is there. A yield of 30hl/ha. New cellar with more precise plot selection. Small crop but good quality. Earliest ever Merlot harvest on 4 September, Cabernets picked 14-18th. Rain on 13/14th helped reduce alcohol a little in the Cabernets. Drink 2030-2036.

The 2025 Fombrauge is stellar. Deep and pliant, with gorgeous texture, the 2025 has so much to offer. Dark cherry/plum fruit, rose petal, lavender, mocha and a kick of blood orange infuse the 2025 with tons of nuance. As with all the Magrez wines in 2025, the Fombrauge impresses with its purity and vibrancy. Drink 2033-2065.

A tightly layered and structured red with blackberry, chocolate and hazelnut aromas and flavors. Quite chunky and extracted, but it will come around nicely with all the fruit and phenolics. Wait and see. 94% merlot and 6% cabernet franc. From organically grown grapes.
    93-94 points
    James Suckling

Oak elements on the nose with ripe blackcurrant fruit, dried herbs, black pepper, floral violets and peonies. Smooth and velvety, this is full of bright red berry fruit and softly chalky tannins. A really delicate style with precision at the fore - lots of purity and clarity with the acidity driving the wine forward. Polished and well controlled, still a little tight perhaps but all straightforward, giving width without any heaviness. I like this a lot. Fun, friendly, precise and controlled. Ends minty and stony. Clay and some gravel on the plateau. Some blockage. 94m, 6cf. 14.5%. 3.5pH. A yield of 32hl/ha. Ageing 75% in barrels (1/3 new) and 25% in a variety of vessels (stoneware, concrete and stainless steel). Drink 2029-2043.

    2025 Clos Haut Peyraguey (375ml) Pre-Arrival Offer
    Sauternes, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $44. 99
    Bottle
    $539.88 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Clos Haut-Peyraguey traces its origins to the seventeenth century, when it formed part of the same large Sauternes estate as Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey, before being separated in the late nineteenth century with the highest and best-situated parcels retained as Clos Haut-Peyraguey. The name Peyraguey, derived from the local word for hill, reflects its elevated position in the commune of Bommes, where the vineyard sits among the highest slopes of the appellation, close to Chateau d'Yquem. The 21-hectare estate, classified as a Premier Cru in 1855 and notable as the smallest of the top-ranked properties at the time, is planted predominantly to Semillon with a smaller proportion of Sauvignon Blanc on gravel, sand and clay soils. Vinification and ageing take place in French oak, with maturation in up to 50 percent new barrels, producing a classically structured Sauternes that reflects both its altitude and historic pedigree.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 Clos Haut-Peyraguey is a very delicate, nuanced wine. Hints of passion fruit, crème brûlée, mint, chamomile, floral-infused honey and orange confit fill out the layers. Soft contours add to the wine's total feeling of finesse, shaping the regal mid-palate and finish. Drink 2030-2055.

    Antonio Galloni - Vinous

The 2025 Clos Haut-Peyraguey was picked in three passes between 19 September and 7 October with 140 g/l residual sugar. This is quite pure and delineated on the nose with vanilla pod, acacia honey, French patisserie and light almond scents. The palate is well balanced with a viscous entry. The acidity here is very well judged, the pure botrytis coming through and shaping the very focused finish. Maybe not the most complex Sauternes that I tasted in what was a fecund vintage, but one of the finest Clos Haut-Peyraguey I have tasted at this early juncture. Drink 2031-2059.
    93-95 points
    Neal Martin - Vinous

Lots of botrytis character. Ample, unctuous and decadent, with medium acidity and a richly expressive, almost excessive palate underpinned by a subtle stony texture.
    93-94 points
    Jacobo García Andrade - JamesSuckling.com

Gorgeous aromas of orange, clementine and grapefruit with orange blossom, honey, straw and salted caramel vanilla. Juicy and so lively, lifted and almost sharp which perfectly counters the sugary mid-palate with buttery popcorn, butterscotch, pineapple and apricot fruit. I love the mineral, flinty finish. Sharp, bright, tangy and rich but ends clean and focused with impressive attention to detail and such focused purity on show. 140g/l residual sugar (one of the lowest in the appellation this year). A yield of 14hl/ha on 6ha. Ageing 90% in barrels (1/3 new) and 10% in others. Drink 2027-2047.

    2024 Savaterre Chardonnay
    Beechworth, Victoria, AUSTRALIA
    $115. 00
    Bottle
    $1380.00 Dozen
    ABV: 13.5%
    Closure: Stelvin

Keppell Smith's vision for Savaterre found its perfect home in 1996 when he planted vines on the golden-granite slopes of Beechworth. Since then, Savaterre has earned its place among Australia's elite for Chardonnay, thanks to that decomposed granitic loam soil and the altitude-driven climate of the Victorian Alps.

The 2024 vintage proved to be an exceptional, classic Beechworth season: long warm days and cool nights allowed for slow, even ripening. This perfect maturity was aided by a small crop per vine from the mature, close-planted vineyard, delivering a wine of incredible focus, precision, and finesse. Fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels seamlessly integrated depth and complexity into its structure, resulting in a tightly coiled, seductive Chardonnay built to beautifully evolve.

    Other Reviews...
Here is the art of winemaker laid bare, in all of its beauty as well as mystery. It's a slow reveal, all the better to take in a wine both plush in fruit and fine in structure, citrusy fresh and oak defined, savoury influenced and varietally pure. Complex, tangy fresh aromas arrive Beechworth-bright before leading into a tightly packed, concentrated palate of lemon citrus, grapefruit, stone fruits and toasted almonds creamily textured with honeysuckle aromatics. A suitable ending with saline cut and grip on the long finish. Drink 2026-2036.
    97 points
Jeni Port - James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion

This is a richer iteration of Savaterre Chardonnay with not much in the way of struck match (though, granted, that can sometimes vary between bottles in my experience). It’s glossy and creamy but has firm cut of grapefruit acidity, there’s fine powdery grip to texture, a savoury nutty element and something of a sour yoghourt flavour, honey nougat, spicy oak, a mix of nectarine, pear, lime and melon with a tangy and savoury finish of outstanding length. Drink 2027-2036+.

    2025 Chateau Malescot Saint-Exupery Pre-Arrival Offer
    Margaux, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $95. 99
    Bottle
    $1151.88 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

This Margaux third growth property has been bought and sold numerous times over its history, but it was after the purchase in 1955 by the Zuger family that the fortunes of the property took a turn for the good. At the time the property was in poor shape, with only 7 hectares under vine. Now the 23.5 hectares vineyard is planted to 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, and is easily delivering at its classified level and often more. Malescot-St.-Exupery should be on the radar for every lover of rich and expressive Cabernet. And perhaps the reason they aren’t as highly collected is that it’s really been just the last few years they’ve elevated their wines to new levels. The consistency of the wines from 2014-2019 is remarkable, and to date the wines have been extremely well priced.

    Other Reviews...
A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, the 2025 Château Malescot St. Exupéry offers up aromas of sweet blackberries, plums, pencil shavings and licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a sun-kissed core of fruit and powdery structuring tannins, it's a dramatic, generous, crowd-pleasing style of Margaux.
    92-94 points
William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Malescot Saint Exupéry is classic Malescot—dark, powerful and quite brooding. Dark-toned fruit, gravel, incense, licorice, tobacco and dried herbs are delineated with serious concentration and pure, unbridled power. This backward, massively tannic Margaux is a wine for readers who can be patient. Drink 2033-2045.
    93-95 points
    Antonio Galloni - Vinous

A very structured red with black currants, blackberries and chocolate aromas. It’s full and flexing, with solid tannins and a long finish. Impressive. Better than 2022?
    95-96 points
    James Suckling

Woody and overly dry from the get go, very tannic and filling with an initial fruitiness that fades quite quickly. Seems they struggled here or it’s just super compact and tight right now as there is some cooling, fresh blueberry juice underneath. A bit potent and highly charged at the moment. Tight and clipped on the finish. Drink 2029-2040.

Offering up notes of ripe cherries and cassis framed by toasty oak, the 2025 Couvent des Jacobins is medium- to full-bodied, rich and dense, with a concentrated core of fruit, plenty of structuring tannin and lively balancing acids. The 2025 Couvent des Jacobins is a rich, sumptuous wine. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, cloves, incense and sweet oak are the signatures. This fleshy, explosive Saint-Émilion is quite the extrovert. It's a soloist, not an orchestra, but very delicious just the same. Tasted two times. Drink 2031-2045.

Fresh and bright, with aromas of sliced oranges, dark berries and cedar that follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and a crisp and bright finish.

Gorgeous deep and juicy plum and blackberry aromas with subtle spice: a superlative aromatic expression. The best expression I recall from this estate en primeur, hats off for the spice, the velvety tannins, and the balance. A wine that is thirst quenching insofar as you have depth but also lots of tension and energy. Cooler clay soils certainly played a role in the success as did the judicious tannin extractions, with integrated tannins from the 35% new oak. Drink 2029-2045.

    2025 Chateau Coutet (375ml) Pre-Arrival Offer
    Barsac, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $46. 99
    Bottle
    $563.88 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

One of the superstars of Barsac, the wines are typically noted for their elegance and style rather than weight and richness. At 38.5 hectares in size, Coutet is one of the largest vineyards in the region, with plantings consisting of 75% Semillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle. Fermentation takes place in barrel of which 50% are new with further ageing in oak for 18 months.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 Coutet is a little more backward on the nose than usual, less giving. But there is wonderful purity of fruit, lemon thyme and clementine scents, touches of white flower. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry, playing with Coutet's trademark thread of acidity that emanates from the limestone soils. Quite minerally and spicy on the aftertaste, this is a marvellous Barsac from the Baly family. Drink 2031-2060.

The 2025 Coutet is redolent of burnt sugar, crème brûlée, spice, passion fruit and candied ginger. Always quite rich texturally, Coutet blossoms beautifully on the palate with plenty of textural presence and body. It's a gorgeous wine by any measure. Tasted two times. Drink 2030-2045.

Grilled peach, toasted bread, honey, and mint are just some of the nuances that emerge from the 2025 Château Coutet, a rich, powerful, full-bodied Barsac. On the palate, it has clean, integrated acidity and a great finish. I love its overall balance.

Really fragrant and aromatic peach and pear notes on the nose and palate. Round, sweet, luscious and energetic, this has such a lovely presence in the mouth – ripe, forward, alive and sweet – orange juice, pineapple, mango and peaches. Lovely bitter tang on the finish too. Very assured. Drink 2027-2060.

    2025 Chateau Doisy Daene (375ml) Pre-Arrival Offer
    Barsac, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $46. 99
    Bottle
    $563.88 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Once part of the original Doisy estate founded in 1704, Chateau Doisy Daene takes its name from Jacques Emmanuel Daane, an owner in the late nineteenth century who combined his surname with that of Doisy following the estate's division. After changing hands several times, the property was acquired in 1924 by the Dubourdieu family and gradually rebuilt and expanded to its current 18.2 hectares. The Barsac vineyard, located close to Chateau Climens, is planted predominantly to Semillon with a smaller proportion of Sauvignon Blanc, on red sand, clay and limestone soils. Alongside its Sauternes, the estate is notable for producing one of the appellation's earliest dry white wines, bottled as Doisy Daene Grand Vin Sec, as well as the rare and highly selective l’Extravagance de Doisy Daene in exceptional vintages.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 Doisy-Daëne has an intense nose with plenty of botrytised fruit, wonderful delineation, quite nuanced this year, with quince and light white peach scents intertwined with saffron. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, so pure and quite minerally, yet your senses are just awash with that layered botrytised fruit that lingers in the mouth. What a stunning Barsac. Drink 2032-2070.

A brilliant, gorgeous Barsac, the 2025 Château Doisy Daëne is based on 88% Sémillon and 12% Sauvignon Blanc that will spend 10 months in barrel followed by nine months in stainless steel before bottling. Honeyed peach, fresh apricot, flowers, and toasted bread nuances all shine on the nose, and it's full-bodied on the palate, with a concentrated, layered mouthfeel, beautifully integrated acidity, and outstanding length. Checking in at 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.95, it's a blockbuster in the making.

Loaded Barrel Small Batch Series Blood Orange Seasoned Cask Single Malt Australian Whisky (500ml)
    $99. 99
    Bottle
    $1199.88 Dozen

First aged in virgin American oak, casks used here were then re-seasoned in-house with fresh blood orange peel and Port. No questions about the success of this experiment which sees a deft injection of dry, curacao-like flavours making for what feels like two whiskies in one: Following the initial peel rush, there are more distinct vanilla and cocoa notes, re-grouping as orange spice cake and bittersweet espresso dark chocolate in the finish. A profile that alludes to some Bourbons, yet hardly your typical single malt either. As delicious as it is difficult to categorise. 47.5% Alc./Vol.

    Victoria, AUSTRALIA
    $74. 99
    Bottle
    $899.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Distilled from an American-inspired four grain mash (51% corn and 31% rye, the remainder barley and wheat). Four and a half years in high-char virgin wood reveals a tapestry of genteel, bready sweetness and delicate, understated spicy, rye input, the flavours also conjuring hay bails and water biscuits. There's a subtle rise of sugars at mid palate, with balancing oak providing a chewy backdrop. Arguably more like a premium blended Scotch than a typical Kentuckian, this skilfully composed, middle-weight style is suited to easy drinking or classic cocktails. 40% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the producers... The blend delivers layers of texture, sweetness and spice, enhanced by a unique American yeast strain...it's beautifully smooth.  Expect balanced notes of vanillin and brown sugar, sweetness from the corn, gentle rye spice and a hint of mint on the nose. The finish is long and rounded - perfect neat or in your favourite whiskey cocktail.  Whiskey sour anyone?

    "Seamless" - whiskyadvocate.com

Clearly a different beast to the previous presentation, but just as good. The colour alone will be a major head turner for many - almost as dark as tea, but it’s the way sherry combines with Arran’s superb distillate that makes this one of the real highlights of the new collection. Given enough air contact, the nose develops into a stunning drier-styled sherry hit: fresh from the bag dried apricots, pears in wine, orange zest, Turkish delight and bitter dark chocolate, plus a deft sprinkling of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg complete a beautiful composition that carries through to the palate. Again, dried fruits rally, this time accenting prunes, apricots and fruit mince pie. There's a flash of succulence before the finish turns deliciously bittersweet with citrus peels, fig, light rancio, gingery warmth and late hints of fruit and nut chocolate. Only slightly let down by the length - otherwise a brilliant juxtaposition of flavours. You simply don't find many like this nowadays. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Very limited stocks.

Other reviews... The interplay of floral and sherried notes creates an elegance that other scotches surely envy: candied rose petal, dried orange peel and apricot, sugared almond, raisin, nougat, and dark chocolate on the nose, then candied violet, raisin, date, milk chocolate, dried ginger, candied orange peel, and gingerbread on the palate. The maturity shows in tropical fruit flavors and a deep, probing complexity. It finishes with chocolate, coffee, candied rose petal, and tobacco-laced oak. Seamless.

Arran 10 Year Old Arran Barley Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Isle of Arran, SCOTLAND
    $149. 99
    Bottle
    $1799.88 Dozen
    ABV: 50%

Several distilleries are showing renewed interest in the varieties of barley they use. Arran joins that list with an 18,000-bottle limited edition made from Optic barley grown at Bellevue Farm by the Currie family. The variety has been used for malting in breweries and distilleries since the mid-1990s and is known for its biscuit-like aromas. Maturation is the same as the standard 10 year old (first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill sherry hogsheads), and it's very much in the style we're accustomed to (and love) from this distillery - full and creamy textured - with hints of tea biscuits and light orchard fruits on the nose, the flavours suggesting crisp red apples and light vanilla, bittersweet oak, cocoa and just a little more prickle from the 50% ABV. It's hard to say whether the Optic barley is better. What is evident is the wonderfully rounded way the malt oils-up and coats the tongue in a manner that distinguishes it from most young whiskies. For comparison, it's also similar to several higher-strength Glenfiddichs we've tasted. New batches will be released annually with variations depending on the crop type, cask types and volumes available. Bottled non chill-filtered.

Other reviews... Nose: Some classic Arran notes. No loud cask notes which is nice - gives the distillate more space to shine. Taste: Feels balanced, with a nice, thick structure for a 10yo. I tried this as a starter at a whisky festival and it was absolutely perfect for that purpose. The bottle cost seems reasonable compared to the quality. Finish: The barley stays for a while. There is a Glenfiddich-like shy touch of smoke in the back. - whiskybase.com

    ABV: 54.4%

Distilled from malted barley peated to 20PPM, the whisky spent its full 15 year maturation in a host of oloroso sherry butts sourced from a family run producer in Jerez. It offers a rich, fruity profile laden with sweet peat, citrus, and spice. 4024 bottles. 54.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... When you drink Arran regularly, this whisky will provide you with something really left-field, and that is something to be thankful for. I like seeing distilleries trying stuff and making it work. The peat and the sherry work together well, and even though I do miss some red fruits in the mix, the other elements more than make up for it. Recommended whisky here! - whiskybase.com

Crafted by a prestigious McLaren Vale estate with 170 years of South Australian winemaking history, this Nicks Secret Cabernet carries serious pedigree. Going back 6 generations, the family is considered one of the industry's pioneers.

A sturdily built, richly fruited McLaren Cabernet that delivers serious value for money at just $16.99

Matured for 15 months in new and aged French oak puncheons and hogsheads. Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Expressive blackcurrant and liquorice scents are delivered with impressive intensity trailed by some spicy vanillin cedar, earthy tobacco, dark chocolate and mint notes. Rich, mouth filling blackcurrant, dark chocolate and liquorice fruits are married to earthy black olive, cedary tobacco and spicy mint characters. Firmly structured, a robust tannin framework imparts some gentle grip across the long, sturdy finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

    Other Reviews….
The team have not named this wine in honour of some Downton Abbey-like hunt where gentlemen in tweed slaughter the resident population of partridge and quail. Rather, the reason is a little more prosaic. The property is on the corner of Rifle Range and Hunt Roads in McLaren Vale. No doubt the local poultry are very grateful. The wine spent nineteen months maturing in French oak hogsheads, 20% of which were new. Under cork. Black/maroon with a very dark blood red rim, the nose reveals aromas of tobacco leaves, cassis, chocolate, mushrooms, spices, beef stock and blackberries. There are hints of freshly turned earth as well. Excellent oak integration ties everything together and we can see the early signs of complexity emerging. The palate is all about chocolate. The wine is well structured with serious length through to very fine tannins. Absolutely delicious, there is much to love here. It will surely provide immense pleasure for at least twenty years. It would probably pair very nicely with either partridge or quail, if there are any left. Drink 2026-2046.

Saturated, glass-staining purple colour; deep-set black fruit on the nose coupled with tidy oak that's been well handled. The wine is full-bodied and concentrated, the fruit flavour well matched by firm and mouth-coating tannins. This has power and pizzazz, driving very long through a firm, authoritative finish. Smashing cabernet that will age superbly.

Huon Hooke – The Real Review

This is an impressive example of McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2023 vintage. There’s a strong varietal blackcurrant on the nose with a slightly leafy overtone and a little black olive nuance. The palate carries plenty of richness and weight with a chalky thread of tannin and plenty of oak playing a supporting role. It’s balanced and poised, with good flavour intensity that extends effortlessly into a long, focused finish. It’s a pretty smart wine. Drink 2026-2041.

The 2025 Grand Mayne reveals a fresh, expressive bouquet of dark berries, cassis and mulberries, becoming more floral with aeration. Medium- to full-bodied, it’s supple and enveloping, with a velvety texture and a refined, well-defined tannic frame, concluding with a fresh, elegant finish marked by dark berry nuances. This is a more restrained, finely tuned expression than in previous vintages, aligning closely with the estate’s recent stylistic evolution.

The 2025 Grand Mayne is impressive. Dark, layered and vibrant, Grand Mayne has so much to offer. Beautiful aromas on the nose, blackcurrants and dark chocolate. Fleshy and ripe while being so juicy and lifted, great energy and focus here, still touches of oak in the coffee, tobacco and clove elements, but the fruit has purity and this retains a much brighter, more focused expression than in some previous EP samples. Crunchy, crisp, lively yet still carrying that core of power and drive. If anything still a bit bitter on the finish but this will settle. 3.55pH. Ageing 18 months, 40% new barrels. Drink 2029-2045.

Aromas of dark berries, cherries and plums, mingled with subtle hints of licorice and violet, introduce the 2025 Château Mangot, a medium- to full-bodied, layered and velvety wine that's intensely flavored, vibrant and penetrating. Mangot has enjoyed a formidable run in recent years, but the 2025 gives every indication of ranking alongside the 2022 as the estate's best to date. The 2025 Mangot is a soft, open-knit Saint-Émilion. Floral and silky, with gorgeous mid-palate structure, the 2025 is one of the most restrained Saint-Émilions of the vintage. Rose petal, lavender, mint, blood orange and pomegranate are some of the many notes that grace this exquisite red. Tasted two times. Drink 2028-2037.

Fresh, precise and medium- to full-bodied with delineated dark fruit, an attractive savory touch, precise tannins that turn saline and a focused finish.

Beautiful black raspberry, cassis, violets, and graphite all emerge from the 2025 Château Mangot, a gorgeous Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé with a pure, graceful mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a layered, seamless mouthfeel. It's a beautiful wine from this team.

Rose petals, milk chocolate and red cherries, such fragrance on the nose. Silky smooth, juicy and succulent, such immediate joy to be found with this wine. Great intensity of flavour - extremely fruity with crisp raspberries, cherries and blueberries alongside quite clear acidity - a citric touch - with such length. Amazing brilliance, purity and delicate. Tannins give structure and soft support but really blend into the background letting the fruit shine. Gorgeous. Fun, lifted, fresh and juicy. 3.45pH. A yield of 37hl/ha on 34ha. Drink 2029-2048.

The 2025 Larrivaux is a gorgeous, sensual wine. Floral, silky and impeccably balanced, the 2025 is a total delight. Bright red-toned fruit, new leather, dried herbs, mocha and spice are some of the many nuances that develop with a bit of coaxing. This Haut-Médoc delivers the goods, big time. Drink 2028-2043.

The 2025 Bastor-Lamontagne has an attractive nose with wild honey, almond and light vanillary scents, well defined and focused. The palate offers ample botrytised fruit, a fine bead of acidity, quite linear for a Sauternes, with commendable tension on the weighty and quite irresistible (already!) finish. This should constitute one of the more approachable Sauternes wines, but the class is already evident. Drink 2031-2050.

The 2025 Bastor-Lamontagne is a very pretty, understated Sauternes. Orange confit, cinnamon, butter, baked apple tart and chamomile are some of the many notes that take shape. The 2025 is soft and creamy, deftly balancing textural presence with freshness. Pretty floral notes reappear to extend the close. Drink 2028-2040.

Aromas of dust, mushrooms and dried apricots. Full-bodied, sweet and lush, with notable concentration and length, lifted by a touch of salinity and an attractive texture. Long, persistent and dense. 83% semillon and 17% sauvignon, with 160 g/L residual sugar. An intense wine.

A serious, powerful Sauternes, the 2025 Château Bastor-Lamontagne checks in as 83% Sémillon and 17% Sauvignon Blanc that will spend 16 months in barrels, 30% of which are new. Its medium gold hue is followed by a rich, powerful nose of honeyed apricot, grilled peach, mint, and spice. On the palate, it's rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, with an unctuous mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. Hitting 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.8, it's a seriously impressive barrel sample.

Some tropical aromas on the nose. You can really feel the weight and depth on the palate, the extra sugar gives a round lusciousness that sometimes you don’t get here and I love it. Orange, grapefruit, mango – succulent, sweet and still with a lift on the finish. A pure dessert wine. 13.5%. 3.8pH. 160g/l residual sugar. A yield of 18hl/ha. Tasted four times. Drink 2027-2046.

    2025 Chateau Doisy-Vedrines (375ml) Pre-Arrival Offer
    Barsac, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $42. 99

    $515.88 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Once part of the large Doisy estate founded in 1704, Chateau Doisy-Vedrines was named after one of the early owners of the estate after Doisy was separated into three properties in 1851. Chateau Doisy-Vedrines is now owned by the Casteja family who also own Chateau Trotte Vieille in Saint-Emilion and Chateau Batailley in Pauillac among their portfolio. The vineyard is planted to 80% Semillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle, and along with their grand vin they produce a second wine under the Chateau Petit Vedrines label. Interestingly they choose to label their wines as Sauternes, rather than Barsac as with the two other Doisy properties.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 Doisy-Védrines was picked between September 17 and October 13 over 11 days and three tries. It does not have the purity and intensity of the Doisy-Daëne, well defined, but it just needs a little more expression at this stage. The palate is bright and viscous on the entry, a little fatter than Daëne as usual, with commendable length on the finish. It is just seeking a bit more complexity at the moment; indeed, a second bottle delivers a little more tension. 140 g/l residual sugar. Drink 2030-2055.

The 2025 Doisy-Védrines is an infant. Orchard fruit, citrus and floral notes are nicely lifted. This shows notable power and textural resonance. I imagine the 2025 will drink well with a few years in bottle, by which time some of the more incisive contours will have softened. That said, this is a Barsac that shows exceptionally well with age. Drink 2035-2065.

White peach, honeyed flowers, caramelized orange, and minty nuances all define the 2025 Château Doisy-Vedrines, a rich, seriously impressive Sauternes in the making. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a balanced, layered mouthfeel, beautifully integrated acidity, and a great finish.

Juicy and lively, this has a real kick to it with the acidity at the fore – tangy lemon and pineapple before slowly creamy, vanilla, apricot and pear come in. I like the style, it’s upfront and focused, less overtly sweet than some bit with real energy and grip. Great stuff here, so approachable, so enjoyable on a summer’s day. Mouthwatering and alive. Still a little spiced and angular but this will soften. Drink 2027-2046.

Ranked one step down the Sauternes appellation pyramid from the legendary Chateau d'Yquem is Chateau Guiraud. The wine is produced from certified organic vines with an average age of about 20-30 years old. The cepage is 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc. Ageing takes place in French oak for approximately 18 months.

The 2025 Guiraud is well defined on the nose, with plenty of botrytised fruit, hints of saffron and apricot blossom, quite nuanced compared with some of its peers. The palate is well balanced, with a tangy, mellifluous entry. Bright acidity counters the richness of this Guiraud, a touch of spice towards the lingering and powerful finish that fans out with style. This is a great Guiraud from winemaker Sandrine Garbay. The 2025 Rayne-Vigneau is a wild, exotic wine. Orange confit, burnt sugar, crème brûlée and candied ginger build in an ample, creamy, rich, luscious Sauternes. This is beautifully done. Extroverted tropical and spice overtones emerge on the close. Drink 2030-2045.

Mirabelle plum, dried apricot and orange blossom on the nose, smells lovely. Crisp and cool, not overly sweet, still a little tight and focused all in one line rather than enveloping the mouth. I like the freshness, it’s a nice counter to the sweetness with salted caramel, pineapple and mango as well as peach and apple too but maybe missing a touch more flesh at this point. Still, it’s super refined with real elegance and detail. Clean and clear, grippy with some honeyed sweetness. I like this a lot. Drink 2027-2048.

This is rich yet contained, with nothing massive or cloying, but very well put together. Medium- to full-bodied with a subtle savory undertone.

Orange blossom, white peach, and tropical flowers all emerge from the 2025 Château Rayne Vigneau, and it shows the ripe, exotic style of the vintage beautifully. Full-bodied on the palate, it's rich and opulent, with integrated acidity, a big, expansive mouthfeel, and a great finish.

The 2025 Sigalas Rabaud has a nicely detailed bouquet with plenty of botrytised fruit. The palate is fresh and bright on the entry, very pure, with quince, peach and apricot notes. Just a little oak to be subsumed towards the finish (at the moment it imparts a touch of heaviness), but I am sure it will eventually come good. Excellent. Drink 2031-2055.

Friendly and upfront, a lovely lick of quite bright acidity before turning much more mineral with flint, wet stones, struck match and a cool, crisp graphite edge. Very pure, very gentle, not overly sweet with mouthwatering acidity but hidden behind the complexity of flavour and layers of texture – spice, bitterness, freshness and fruit. I like it but still seems quite quiet for now. Drink 2027-2043.

    Sauternes, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $61. 99

    $743.88 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Chateau La Tour Blanche takes its name from the founder of the estate, Jean Saint Marc du Latourblanche, and is one of the most respected producers in Sauternes. The 40 hectares of vines used for their grand vin are planted in one large parcel with a prime location close to the Ceron river, and the soils are a mix of gravel, clay, sand, and limestone. Planted here is a combination of 83% Semillon, 12% Sauvignon Blanc, and an unusually high proportion of Muscadelle at 5%. The Semillon is aged in 35% new, French oak barrels for 16 to 18 months, while the Sauvignon Blanc and the Muscadelle are aged for 16-18 months in stainless steel vats before blending and bottling.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 La Tour Blanche has a more primal bouquet, tightly wound at first, then opening with beeswax and light apricot scents. The palate is wonderful, with plenty of vivacious botrytised fruit, energy and tension. It is weighty as usual with this Sauternes, but there is a countervailing sense of energy through to the finish. Excellent. Drink 2031-2060.

A brilliant, exuberant Sauternes that delivers the goods, the 2025 Château La Tour Blanche reminds me of the 2003 on release, with big, heady aromatics of white peach, honeyed tropical fruit, mint, flowers, and toasted bread. Notes of dark berries, cassis, spices and licorice, mingled with delicately oaky nuances, preface the 2025 Laroque. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it’s built around a rich core of fruit that is framed by youthful, structured tannins and concludes with a taut, saline finish. While the bouquet shows a darker register, the palate remains fresh, lending the wine an elegant austerity that should integrate further with élevage.

Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Laroque is a gorgeous, super-elegant wine. Vibrant, salivating acids and beams of tannin are the first signs we are on the clay/limestone plateau in Saint-Émilion's Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes sector. Blood orange, mint, chalk and white pepper bleed into a core of red-toned fruit. Medium in body, with striking energy and tension, Laroque is positively stellar in 2025. This is another superb showing from the team led by Technical Director David Suire. Tasted two times. Drink 2033-2055.

Tasted twice with consistent results, the 2025 Château Laroque is a gorgeous wine in the making based on 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc that will spend 16 to 18 months in a mix of new barriques, second-use barrels, and foudre. Cassis and black raspberry fruits, graphite, spring flowers, and violet nuances all shine on the nose, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a pure, graceful mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It shows the more focused, structured style of the vintage, yet the tannins are remarkably polished. Checking in at 13.8% alcohol with a pH of 3.4 and yields of 31 hectoliters per hectare, this is a brilliant effort from this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé that's going to have some early accessibility yet also evolve gracefully.

Another great success and value pick for Laroque. Really aromatically complex. Ripe and pristine black bramble berries on the nose, perfumed and nicely fragrant. Lovely aromatic purity. Smooth and so silky, smooth, svelte as Laroque does so well. Mouthwatering with bright acidity but so juicy – strawberry and cherry with a hint of cranberry and soft accents of dried herbs liquorice and wet stones. Grippy but so charming even at this point. Tension with freshness, perfectly polished and friendly. A yield of 31hl/ha with varying yields depending on the terroir from 25-45hl/ha. 3.40pH. Drink 2030-2048.

Tucked away in Manchuela, roughly two and a half hours south of Madrid, Juan Antonio Ponce is quietly producing some the best value Spanish wines. After honing his craft under Telmo Rodriguez and spending a formative stint in Beaujolais, Juan Antonio returned to his family's 80-year-old vineyards in Iniesta to prove that the often-maligned Bobal grape could be a vehicle for world-class elegance rather than just rustic bulk wine. By farming 70 hectares of high-altitude, dry-grown vines with incredibly low density, he maintains a meagre average yield of just 2 tonnes per hectare, resulting in a modest annual production of 170,000 bottles that prioritise concentration and freshness. His signature move is a 100% whole-cluster fermentation for all his reds, a technique that, combined with the region's nutrient-rich soils and 800m+ elevation, produces wines that are remarkably fragrant, poised, and powerful.

Light, juicy and very energetic with chalky tannins and lively acidity finishing dry and dusty with some tang.

Deep black dark red core with a vibrant dark red hue. Fragrant rose petal, red liquorice and fresh herb scents are complimented by subtle sour to red cherry, earth and spice notes. The super-affordable 2024 Clos Lojen comes from a year that continues the warm and dry conditions of 2022 and 2023 but with lower yields and very healthy grapes. It fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in open-top and well-seasoned 4,500-liter oak vats and matured in a combination of oak vats of different sizes—4,500-, 10,000- and 15,000-liter ones—for six months. Each plot was harvested at the right time, which seems to have increased precision in the cuvée, a fruit-driven, primary and juicy red with similar alcohol as in previous years, 12.5%, a pH of 3.6 and 5.7 grams of acidity. This is a lot more serious than a young and juicy red; it has fruit but with a complexity of flavors, a medium-bodied palate and very fine tannins. It's approachable and ideal with food, but it also has the potential to keep in bottle. It's a champion for quality/price, one to buy by the case. It has one of the lowest production volumes in recent times, 45,000 bottles. It was bottled between April and June 2025. Drink 2026-2030.

Manchuela locale. A stint with Telmo Rodriguez, a stint in Beaujolais, hello Lapierre, amongst family properties at home in Spain, of smaller scale. Whole bunch winemaking here. This could be my value Spanish wine of the year – nuts!
Soft, sweeping red wine of earthy savouriness under stewed cherries, blood orange, toasted hazelnuts, black pepper and wet, sweated, Italianate herbs. An almost soif gamay feel to the wine, loose but with a gravelly haze through it all, lots of perfume, brightness under the savoury elements. Effortless drinking. Drink 2026-2030.

A savoury Pyrenees Shiraz with good upfront richness a slightly chewy mouth feel.

Lethbridge has been working with fruit from the Malakoff Vineyard in the Pyrenees near Landsborough for more than 10 years. This celebrated site—owned and operated by Cameron and Robert John—has long been the source of top-quality Shiraz from some of Victoria’s most celebrated producers. The moderately sloped site was first planted in 1997 and lies at 300 metres with a well-sheltered northeast aspect. The soils are rich in red ferrous clay with large amounts of ironstone and quartz littered throughout.
Midnight black heart with a dark red hue. Spicy dark plum, liquorice and dried clove scents rise out of the glass followed by some smoked meat and peppered earth notes. Good upfront richness with fleshy dark plum and liquorice fruits overlaying a scorched earth, dried clove and peppered meat back drop. Slightly chewy mouth feel with fine grainy tannins, concluding long and savoury.

A delicately creamed mid weighted Chardonnay that shows good freshness.

Brilliant pale straw colour with gleaming green tinged edges and a watery hue. Elevated aromas of white peach, nectarine and dried honey are married to biscuity nougat, cashew and spice notes. Fleshy white peach and nectarine fruits are detailed across the medium bodied palate with notions of biscuity nougat, subtle dried honey, cashew and spice lining the back half. Fresh acidity with a delicately creamed finish.

Lots to enjoy on the flavour front, from white nectarine and citrus to the dusting of spices. Bright acidity, feather-light lees and oak inputs add to the appeal. It’s retrained yet not lean, vibrant, zesty and tangy. Not complex but refreshing as much as satisfying. Drink by 2031.

Aromas of lemon butter, grapefruit, stone fruit and flint. The medium-bodied palate has a generous texture and bright acidity, leading into a creamy, fruit-driven finish with nice minerals and a touch of baking spices. Well-balanced. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

A nicely rounded yet refreshing Chenin Blanc with a dry, elegant finish.

Brilliant pale straw colour with a watery hue. Ripe pear, Jonathan apple and honeysuckle aromas drift through the nostrils followed by whiffs of musk, quince and minerals. The nicely rounded yet refreshing palate features juicy pear and Jonathan apple fruits over a gentle musk, quince and stony mineral infused back drop. Crisp acidity with a dry, elegant finish.
