2022 Richard Hamilton Lot 148 Merlot
An elegant mid weighted Merlot that has a long savoury red fruited finish.
Deep black dark red core with a dark red hue. Elevated mulberry and red currant aromas are intermeshed with cedar, tobacco, earth, dried herb and spice notes. Generous red currant and mulberry fruits are elegantly layered across the mid weighted palate with dusty earth, cedary tobacco and spicy dried herb elements lending further complexity across the back half. Fine grained tannins provide ample structure across the long savoury red fruited finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews……
Lot 148 was the family’s first vineyard way back in the day. From what was a very good year, this is a Merlot of some style. The nose captures the reds of fruits of raspberry and mulberry augmented with a slightly earthy ironstone character. It works well. The palate is medium-bodied but concentrated, revealing expressive fruits sprinkled with spices. It’s a vibrant and lively wine with the fine chalky tannins directing through to the sustained finish. Drink 2025-2033.
