Tense and focused with crisp, laser like acidity and a long precise finish.

Brilliant water like colour with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts. Intense lime juice, Granny Smith apple, citrus and orange rind scents jump out of the glass followed by some chalky talc and flinty mineral notes. Crunchy lime, lemon, green apple and orange rind flavours line the mouth watering palate. Subtle talc, wet steel and chalky mineral elements ensue. Tense and focused it has crisp laser like acidity and a long precise finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

A lean and racy style, as expected, but with a plumper core than usual. It's juicy even, and moreish in its swagger of sweet citrus, candied mixed citrus peel, faint green almond notes and sluice of green apple juice. There's a sense of precision, a dart-like thrust of texture to a ticklish, briny, lengthy finish. All things even and just so. Drink by 2035.

The Ackland Vineyard is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary since it was planted and over that time it has provided some superb fruit for classic Clare Valley Rieslings. It is situated in the Watervale sub-region. A negligible hint of lemon, otherwise the colour seems next to invisible. A fresh and pristine style, there is elegance here. Clean and lingering, with notes of limes, a touch of pear, white jasmine and some wet slate. Finely balanced with serious length, this is tightly wound and will easily handle another two decades in the cellar. Love it. A cracking Clare Riesling. Drink 2025-2045.

Fabulous riesling. Intense, dry, slatey and long. It tastes of river stones, lime, steel, curry leaves and alpine herbs – the latter of which gives the wine an aromatic prettiness – though the emphasis is clearly those on cool citrussy tones. It’s the overall intensity of flavour though that really impresses, combined as it is with dramatic length. This will drink well for a decade or more.
