2003 Gordon & Macphail Speymalt from Macallan 20 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $999. 00
    Bottle
    $11988.00 Dozen
    ABV: 57.7%

Gordon & Macphail announced several years ago that their 'Speymalt from Macallan' series will continue to be bottled occasionally, however, they'll only be released in 'selected' worldwide markets. Australia doesn't seem to be one of those, and we suspect the whisky in question was scheduled for the US. Twenty years old, single cask, cask strength and sourced from one of Scotland's most prestigious independents, good things have been said about some of these early 2000 G&M Macallans - no doubt partly because the bottler continues a practice of filling and maturing in their own casks rather than buying 'ready made' malts and then finishing them off for a year or two. This way, G&M maintain as much quality control as is possible for an indie. Judging by the colour alone, this looks to have been very active on the sherry front and has all the hallmarks of a strong distillery expression. Presumably non-chill filtered, but not stated on the label, cask #13603609 yielded 298 bottles at 57.7% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the bottlers... Sweet stewed fruit aromas with cinnamon and ginger spice. The palate has forest fruits, toasted hazelnuts and black pepper. The finish has charred oak and citrus peel.

Greywacke is the Marlborough label of former Cloudy Bay winemaker Kevin Judd, where he presided over that company’s first 25 vintages establishing the reputation that it has today. The name Greywacke was adopted by Kevin and his wife Kimberley for their first Marlborough vineyard in Rapaura, named in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of the vineyard. Kevin registered the name back in 1992 with the vague notion that he might one day want to use it on a wine label of his own.
Fruit was sourced from various prime vineyard sites in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys and the central Wairau Plains with a portion of the juice fermented in old oak barrels.
Brilliant water like core with greenish tinged edges. Pungent nose with aromas of passionfruit, herbaceous gooseberry and lime leaping out of the glass. Subtle green apple, stony mineral and grassy notes ensue. Scrumptious passionfruit, lime and green apple fruits burst across the palate with terrific intensity. Complimenting delicate herbaceous gooseberry, subtle grassy and flinty mineral elements also chime in. Displaying outstanding power and textural volume it has crisp acidity and a long, zesty finish.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.

The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc was hand delivered to me in Fremantle by winemaker Richelle Tyney from Greywacke, all the way from Marlborough, New Zealand—roughly 5,200 kilometers between us. The wine leads with passion fruit and white pineapple, green apple, beeswax and brine. The wine is salty, fine and sedate—the characters are all in balance with each other. I love this wine from this small producer. It is intense and concentrated, shaped by savory phenolics and loaded with crunchy New Zealand acidity. This speaks of the place in a clear, unfettered voice, and it's brilliant for that. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2025-2030.

Fermented predominately in old oak barrels using wild yeast then matured in the same barrels for around 6 months with occasional lees stirring. Approximately two-thirds underwent malolactic fermentation.
Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Jumping out of the glass is a complex mix of herbaceous gooseberry, guava, citrus, grassy asparagus, pencil shaving and subtle gun flint notes. Mouthfilling gooseberry and passionfruit flavours are delivered with excellent concentration and textural volume across the palate. Lending further interest are notions of herbaceous grassy characters, asparagus and spicy pencil shavings. Enveloping yet refreshing it has crisp acidity finishing dry, long and savoury.

Lots of character to this, with apples, pears, popcorn kernels and blanched nuts. It’s medium-bodied with delicious fruit and a flavorful finish. A serious savuignon blanc for chardonnay lover. Flinty and reductive at the end. Screw cap.

A stunning white, aromatic and supple, with wild fennel, quince, pear and green papaya flavors on a creamy frame. Aromatic details of mango and honeysuckle, with a whiff of flint, emerge on the finish, which just goes on and on. Drink now.

Sourced from a few sites across Marlborough’s Southern Valleys and the central Wairau Plains. Spontaneous indigenous yeast fermentation in French oak barriques. Occasional lees stirring. Around two thirds underwent mlf and was left on yeast lees for six months. Winter melon, jackfruit and pandan. Nettle, fiddlehead and blackberry. A hint of lemon verbena and honeycomb. Ground cumin spices lead into the crashing waves of acidity, oat milk creaminess and some white pepper powder. This is a mosaic of fruit, spice and fernery with power and eons of detail. A wine that can be picked over for its composition or equally enjoyed in a burgundy glass from aperitif to main meal. Drink by 2034.

After a high flying career in marketing Ingrid Groiss returned to her family origins, enrolling in viticulture, oenology and wine marketing at the University of Vienna. During those studies she gained experience with producers such as Domäne Wachau, Birgit Braunstein and Birgit Eichinger. She had to play second fiddle to her chief winemaker dad until in 2010 when she went head-to-head with him in a blind taste-off of their own wines, with the victor being handed the winemaker's reins. Needless to say Ingrid came out on top.
Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Intense pear, red apple skin and musk aromas flood the nostrils followed by some quince and delicate spice notes. Delicious pear and red apple fruits glide across the palate imparting a slippery feel along the course of their journey. Juicy, crisp acidity lifts the intensity of flavour even further. Quince, lime, infusions of fresh herbs and wet stone elements also chime in. Excellent concentration finishing with an energized zing on the long moreish finish. Flaxman’s Valley is a high altitude sub-region of the Eden Valley and one of our most highly regarded districts for growing great Riesling. Combine that with the stellar 2023 vintage and we are in for something special. Cold fermentation took place in refrigerated stainless steel tanks. A shining pale yellow colour. This is beautifully perfumed with talc, bath salts, lavender, florals and citrus, notably intense limes with fine balance and a lingering finish. There is a fine line of crisp acidity with good intensity. Love this and best at ten to twelve years, with potentially a lot more, ahead of it. Drink 2023-2035.

Chris Hatcher, affectionately known as Hatch, has been a winemaker for almost 50 years including more than 35 years at Wolf Blass where he picked up numerous awards including the Jimmy Watson Trophy and three time IWSC international winemaker of the year. Having recently retired from the corporate winemaking scene Hatch has embarked on his own personal venture for which his first releases have received widespread critical acclaim.
A blend of several vineyards across the Mclaren Vale region, Vesey takes its name from Chris Hatcher’s great-grandfather Alf Vesey who started winemaking at Penfolds in 1883. He worked at Magill for an amazing 69 years and was the Master Winemaker for 47 of those years during which time he famously mentored Max Schubert, the creator of Penfolds Grange.
Matured for 18 months in 59% French oak (11.9% new) and 41% American oak (20.1% new). Magnificent colour featuring an impenetrable inky black heart and a deep dark red black hue. Exuberant ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and mocha aromas waft through the nostrils followed by chocolatey vanillin oak, hints of blueberry and spice notes. Rich opulent blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits engulf the mouth with terrific concentration and textural density. Plush, silky feel with notions of blueberry, spicy vanillin oak, subtle mocha and spicy earth adding further interest. Outstanding power and polish with a cashmere like feel to the tannins. This wine was named for Chris Hatcher’s great-grandfather, Alf Vesey. Alf started working at Penfolds way back in 1883 and continued on for an incredible 69 years. Of those 69 years, he was their Master Winemaker for 47 of them. While he was there, he mentored a young bloke who went on to do okay – Max Schubert. The fruit for this wine was fermented on skins in small open top fermenters, for five to ten days. A dense vibrant purple, the wine has gorgeous aromas which simply leap from the glass. Blueberries, mocha, spices, coffee beans, dark chocolate and bay leaves. This is rich and ripe and more chocolate flavours emerge on the palate. Generous in style, indeed opulent, with a seductive and soft texture, silky tannins and a long, lingering finish. Notes of coffee grinds and dry herbs then emerge towards the end of the palate. This will easily age and improve for eight to twelve years. Love it. Drink 2023-2035.

The Hennings vineyard is part of a family owned farm that was established by Henning Rathjen in 1858. He was the first to plant vines in the Heathcote region producing wines up until the 1920’s when the vineyard was eventually abandoned. It wasn’t until 1998 when Daryl Rathjen decided to replant the 30 acre vineyard on the same original site that production started again. Winemakers David and Liam Anderson from Wild Duck Creek are in charge of winemaking so its no surprise that the resultant wines are hefty, super rich examples of Heathcote Shiraz. Maturation took place in French oak, 15% of which was new for a period of 18 months.

Deep black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Unfurling from the glass are ripe black cherry and liquorice aromas which are complimented by toasty oak, earthy leather and spice notes. Rich black cherry, liquorice and black raspberry fruits overlay a toasty oak, earth and spicy leather back drop. Plush and sensuous it has ripe chewy tannins and a long polished yet touch rustic finish.

High West Barrel Select PX Sherry Finish Straight Whiskey (750ml) - Whiskey Hunt Australia Selection
    Park City, Utah, UNITED STATES
    $159. 99
    Bottle
    $1919.88 Dozen
    ABV: 49.6%

Single malt Scotch drinkers will be familiar with this increasingly popular finishing that adds notes of dates, honey and chocolate to whisky: Pedro Ximenez (aka sweet sherry) is now catching on in America, and Whisky Hunt have landed a very nice example. Blended from 8-10 year old sourced whiskeys (both corn heavy), the combination spent its last ten months in an x-sherry barrel. It still tastes like Bourbon, but not quite as you know it. For a start, the nose is thicker, deeper and more layered than most bourbons - closer to a single malt - with dates and caramel over fresher mandarine peel and orange spice cake. The palate mirrors the aromas in a viscous entry; dates and light honey build, followed by drier notes of cinnamon and white pepper. Although the finish is less pronounced, it’s also more nuanced as cocoa and a little bitter peel enter to cap things off. This is well structured - the sherry adding depth and just a little extra sweetness, while the woody and spicy notes you expect from American whiskey remain intact. 156 bottles have been imported at 49.6% Alc./Vol. Tasted from a 30ml sample.

Notes from the importers... Nose: Aromas of apple, cacao nibs and maple syrup offer a sweet and balanced nose. Palate: Flavourful on the palate, with cherry woodsmoke, dates, baking spices and notes of black tea. Finish: Cherry, spices, dark chocolate. Derived Mashbill: 70% corn, 16% wheat, 14% malted barley (TN Whiskey from Tennessee Distilling); and 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley (from MGP).

Highland Park Viking Honour 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - Plus Bonus Cask Strength 50ml Miniature
    Orkney Islands, SCOTLAND
    $99. 99
    Bottle
    $1199.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Comes with a bonus 50ml miniature bottle of the high-octane Cask Strength Release No.3.

Ranked alongside the classic malts, revered as a spectacular after-dinner drink and without doubt '...a malt to challenge any Cognac or Armagnac', Highland Park's house style is fragrant and floral with a smooth, honeyed character over hints of citrus and smoke. The phenol content of their proprietary malt is 30-40ppm but the remainder which is imported from Simpson's is unpeated. Employing roughly 20% first-fill sherry casks, the distillery is serious about quality oak, spending $20 million a year on wood alone, more than any other Scotch distillery - despite having a fraction of the output of some of the larger brands.

First released in 1979, the 12 year old remains the best introduction to the Orkney legend. A name change and packaging update took place in 2017. It's now called 'Viking Honour', adding to what seems like a never-ending series of Nordic themed labels. This special gift pack edition will please bargain hunters. It comes with a 50ml cask strength HP - a massive, extra smokey limited release bottled at a whopping 64.1% Alc./Vol!

12YO Retasted 2019 ...Surprisingly full at 40% ABV but loses vitality and flattens out towards the finish. Otherwise, mostly unchanged from our first tasting back in 2012. Subtle nashi-pear fruitiness combines with a judicious slap of peat and a spicy flourish. More peaty than some previous bottlings with drying brine, spice and smoke lingering. Closer to the HP style of 15 years ago.

Other reviews... "The sweet aroma is very inviting and draws you in closer to inspect the dram. The honey'd and vanilla fragrance takes a turn on the palate replaced by grass and pineapple. A lemon twist or two comes next with the peat smoke just teasing your senses." 91 points - drinkhacker.com

...This amber spirit has a light, briny vanilla scent and a silky feel. A veil of smoke rises through the Scotch (but fades out fast), leaving behind a sweet nutty, vanilla finish93 points - wineenthusiast.com

More Viking paraphernalia… Could we at least have Lagertha? Colour: gold. Nose: not my preferred style of HP either, but this is fresher, fruitier, more lively, even if the core is kind of similar. Bitter oranges, marmalade, ginger, ale, whiffs of pumpernickel bread, oak spices, a little leather and tobacco… Indeed I like this nose better. Mouth: no questions, this is more refreshing despite the ‘seasoning’ that’s a little too apparent to me. Pepper, oak spices, black tea, grass smoke… Nice earthy honey beyond these bitterish spices. Finish: medium, spicy, with an obvious tannicity. Comments: they seem to have used active seasoned wood too here, but the spices and the leather were better controlled in my opinion. But indeed I much prefer the brighter, distillate-driven HPs. Because what a distillate it is indeed! 83 points - whiskyfun.com

"I like my HPs more al natural, but this one's good for sure, if a little rustic and robust indeed". - whiskyfun.com

What initially felt like a one-off in 2020 is now onto its fifth annual release (not yet available in Australia). We've managed to source more of an earlier, now largely sold out edition, Batch No.3. What goes into these NAS bottlings changes a little each year, mainly in terms of the cask regime. While we love the low peat HP style, some found batches one and two lacking in Orkney smoke. So for the third instalment, Master Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion has opted for a higher proportion of locally peated malt than the previous releases. Bringing together dozens of single casks, it was matured in first-fill and refill sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks, rounding off the hearty peat smoke with zesty layers of fruit and warming spice. It comes bottled at a natural strength of 64.1% and should handle more than a few drops of water.

Other reviews...This brand-new baby that was bottled at rocket fuel strength, just like its predecessor will you say, is ex-first Fill sherry American and European oak. Colour: gold. Nose: it is a meaty, grassy, slightly metallic sherry, which makes it really rustic and robust on the nose. Now at 64% vol., anything will be robust. With water: only few changes, it remains grassy, slightly fermentary, with some ale, walnuts, some raw chocolate, ham… It is less honeyed than last year's C/S. Mouth (neat): sweet and pungent at the same time, with some leather, hay, walnut skins, puréed chestnuts, cured ham, peppery oak… Robust and rustic indeed! Water is absolutely obligatory in this context. With water: there, the fruits are coming out, first bitter oranges, then bitterer apples, plus some triple-sec and always these walnuts, as well as bitterer vegetables, around our good friends the artichokes and eggplants, not to mention Baldrick's turnips. Finish: long, still leathery and a little bittersweet. Some welcome raisins in the aftertaste. Comments: I like my HPs more al natural, but this one's good for sure, if a little rustic and robust indeed. For the hipflask with a skull, bones and an Harley logo. 83 points - whiskyfun.com

...The nose is heavy on the sherry influence, with chocolate covered raisins and prunes, leading into cigar smoke and damp, flower-lined meadow. The palate starts hot, with a handful of seasonings ranging from salt and pepper to brown sugar and spice, like a barbecue dry rub. There's also burnt caramel and walnuts. A lengthy finish starts dry, with ashy fireplace, asphalt, tannic oak, bitter peanut shells, and sea spray, eventually ending on an underlying rich sweetness with dark chocolate and pomegranate molasses. 92 points - distiller.com

Following releases such as Thor and the travel retail exclusives of "Leif Eriksson" and "Drakkar" comes HP's 'Warrior Series'. Global Marketing Manager, Gerry Tosh explains the collection: “It's a natural progression for Highland Park, both in brand terms and in global travel retail. By continuing the celebration of our rich and distinctive Norse heritage we are able to tell stories which bring the brand and its products to life. To further this evolution, the whisky maker has crafted six individual whiskies which collectively offer drinkers a new style of taste journey, still classically Highland Park from start to finish, but giving them a different and holistic experience.” The range begins with a heavy influence of ex-American oak casks at the lower end, with a higher proportion of ex-European and Spanish oak influence in the more expensive lines. They are all no age statement releases. This bottling is named after Harald Fairhair, the King of Norway, who set up the Orkney earldom and was one of the founding pioneers of spreading the Vikings and their heritage around the northern hemisphere.

Other reviews... This Warrior variant takes us closer to Highland Park's traditional DNA, with the nose offering potato peels on a barbecue; earthy and herbal, with developing notes of heather in bloom and even violets. Lively fresh fruits, newly-baked cake, nutmeg, and ginger figure on the palate. The spicy finish is relatively long, with candied citrus peel and licorice. 86 points - whiskyadvocate.com

Fresh, juicy and supplely textured, this is a delicious Yarra Valley Pinot Noir that delivers great value.

Winemaker Franco d’Anna regularly fashions some of the best value Pinot Noir’s and Chardonnay’s out of the Yarra Valley and the 2024 releases are no exception.
Red to dark red colour with black toned edges and a vibrant red hue. Perfumed like aromas of violet, wild cherry, strawberry and anise stream out of the glass with wonderful intensity. Some bramble, forest floor and spicy dried herb notes ensue. Delicious wild cherry, strawberry and anise flavours are supple yet simultaneously fresh in their feel across the palate. Supplementing the fruit are infusion of fresh herbs, delicate bramble, forest floor and spice. Polished tannins and lively acidity with a long, energetically juicy finish.

Red fruit, cherry, a little earthy, with some cinnamon oak showing, and sarsaparilla. It’s a more fruity and bouncy expression of Hoddles Pinot, some grainy chew to tannin, a bit of sap and orange rind, something of a ferrous edge, with a stiff tannic finish of good length. Needs a bit of time to come around. It’s maybe a little more robust and fruity than is usual for this wine, though it’s still good. Drink 2026-2034.

An energetic, mid weighted Chardonnay that’s amply fleshed and concentrated.

Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Elevated aromas of pear and nectarine mix with dried honey, biscuity oak, citrus and spicy nougat notes. Concentrated, fleshy and energetic, pear and nectarine fruits are layered across the mid weighted palate. Biscuity nougat, dried honey and spicy cashew elements the support act. Brisk acidity imparts a fresh, flinty feel onto the long and otherwise generously textured finish.

On the sample labels attached to the bottles of Pinot and Chardonnay, Franco talks about the ‘envelope’ of the wine. I’m not really sure what that means. Maybe he’s getting a lot of fan mail? Franco thinks this is the best Chardonnay since the 2021.
Juicy white fruit, grapefruit, aniseed, a little struck match, almond paste, cinnamon and clove spice. It’s packed with flavour, white nectarine and nutty spicy characters, a flinty grip to texture, quite some intensity and power here, and in some respects it seems more Beechworth than Yarra, or so I think. Pear and citrus, lime rind, with excellent length of flavour. It’s elemental as at now, and a little raw, though I reckon it will deliver with a couple of years in bottle. It’s a cracking release. The 2024 vintage was a warm and dry season which produced pristine, high quality Pinot Gris fruit. Approximately 10% of the wine was wild fermented in older oak barrels and 10% wild fermented in tank; this adds complexity and texture to the wine. The remaining juice was fermented using a range of fermentation techniques and yeast strains to enhance the aromatic characters of the wine.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a watery hue. Intense pear and Jonathan apple aromas fill the nose followed by some musk, subtle honeysuckle and delicate spicy quince notes. Rich, luscious pear and ripe apple fruits infused with musk are delivered with terrific concentration and carry a full, rounded shape. Subtle honeysuckle and quince elements lie underneath. Home Hill is one of your classic Australian vineyard retreats that functions as both a serious winery and a charming getaway with restaurant included. The focus here is primarily on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sylvaner and Sparkling wine, but their track record really shines with Pinot. Over recent years they have clearly established themselves as one of Tasmania’s best and most consistent producers of the varietal, culminating in their 2014 Home Hill Reserve Pinot Noir taking out the Jimmy Watson Trophy.

Deliciously fruited, supple and expansive - In a word ‘Moreish’

The Landslide Pinot Noir is sourced from newer plantings and is fermented and raised in mostly old French barriques for 9 months. Deep dark red core with black toned edges and a vibrant red hue. Perfumed violet like top notes stream out of the glass trailed by some red cherry, strawberry and red liquorice scents. Infusions of fresh herbs, flashes of rhubarb, forest floor and spicy cedar ensue. Champagne Hugues Godmé are based in the Grand Cru village of Verzenay in the northern Montagne de Reims, where they farm a total of 7.6 hectares of vines spread across four villages. Their Pinot Noir is sourced from the Grand Cru village pair of Verzenay and Verzy, while much of their Chardonnay is in Villers Marmery, and the Pinot Meunier a touch west in Ville-Dommange. Hugues has long been concerned with the health of his vineyards (along with himself), and made the transition to organic farming in 2006 with certification coming in 2013, followed a year later with biodynamic certification in 2014. Each parcel is vinified separately and dependant on the terroir will have fermentation occur in neutral oak or enamel lined cement tanks, all using native yeasts. Across the range dosage is kept very low, with many wines now bottled as brut nature (zero dosage). As to be expected with wines from Verzenay and Verzy, these Champagnes are sleek and structured, tightly coiled in their youth but with fantastic concentration of fruit.
The Reserve is a blend of 34% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay and 33% Pinot Meunier that has spent 2 years on lees. A mousse overflowing with exuberance subsides to reveal a pale straw coloured base that has pale gold tinged edges. An exceptionally fine bead shows great persistence. Delightful pear and strawberry aromas are complimented by yeast lees, baked bread, faint honeysuckle and delicate oily cashew like notes. The refined palate makes a satin like entry with mouth watering flavours of pear, yeast lees, citrus and baked bread melding into more subtle nuances of strawberry and roasted cashew on the back half. Airy cream tinged mouth feel finishing dry with vividly sculptured acidity and a long complex aftertaste.

    $69. 99

    $839.88 Dozen
    ABV: 35%

AN OLD FAVOURITE RETURNS TO AUSTRALIA. After innumerable requests (with some customers begging us to bring this obscure liqueur back), we decided to import it ourselves. Irish Mist is a variety of Whisky liqueur, and claims to be both older and superior to any Scottish version! The unique recipe is reportedly over 1200 years old and based on a classic blend of clover and heather honey, exotic herbs and mellow Irish Spirits. According to lore, the liqueur was all but lost until Desmond Williams of the Tullamore Distillery came across a manuscript containing the recipe that magically appeared in the 1940s. Mr. Williams took this and adapted it, using Irish whiskey as the base.

Tasting note: Deep tawny in colour with a copper rim. Sweet herbs & citrus peels on the nose. Wonderfully deep palate replete with rich honeyed, raisined flavours and a thick, luscious mouthfeel. Christmas pudding in a bottle! The sweet spirit rises in the finale and warms the heart. Good balance - not cloyingly sweet. A worthy counterpart to its Scottish 'cousins'. 35% alc/vol

Other reviews... Of all the honey-flavored liqueurs I’ve tried, Irish Mist is probably the mildest around. It’s Irish whiskey imbued with honey and “natural aromatic spices,” but the flavor is quite muted. A touch of honey, maybe some cinnamon and cloves, all on a very mild whiskey base. It’s kind of surprising that it’s a full 70 proof — but served on the rocks it certainly helps out with ailments of the throat (guilty!). - drinkhacker.com

In the 1950s, the father of current winemaker Paolo de Marchi purchased the adjoining hamlets of Isole and Olena and their estates in the Tuscan commune of Barberino Val d'Elsa. Paolo entered the business in 1976 and the quality of the estates wines improved rapidly after decades of sharecropping. Paolo de Marchi is one of the region's kings of the Sangiovese grape and at a time when Chianti was a blended wine it was he that stepped out to produce wines that were 100% Sangiovese. Cepparello is the true embodiment of a ‘Super Tuscan’ wine and one of Italy's most iconic wines.

Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. A kaleidoscope of red to black currant, red cherry, red plum, Mediterranean herb, earth, spicy vanillin cedar and subtle fresh tobacco notes captivate the olfactory senses. Very refined and long across the palate a mixture of rich spicy red currant, red cherry and red liquorice fruits are featured over a Mediterranean herb infused back drop of vanillin cedar, earthy forest floor like characters, black olive and tobacco. Slightly muscular in it’s feel it possesses fine graphite like tannins and is both powerful and deep. The long, elegant and structured conclusion carrying a compelling savoury quality.

    Other Reviews…..
My most recent visit to Isole e Olena was decidedly bittersweet. Paolo De Marchi turned out an exceptional set of 2020s, wines that are among his very best ever. However, the sale of Isole e Olena has been quite traumatic. It’s a complex subject, the result of a mix of family dynamics and the lack of an industry structure that could long-term stability. These factors are not unique to Isole e Olena but rather conditions that afflict all family-owned wineries in Italy. Personally, I would like to see more long-term thinking in Italy, but that is not typically part of the cultural construct here. New owners EPI Group, who also own Biondi-Santi, will surely put their own stamp on things. Obviously, it is much too early to know where things will go. Right now, I can only advise Isole e Olena fans to snap up the 2020s, as they are magical.
The 2020 Cepparello is a total stunner, just as it was last year. Deeply colored, layered and explosive in the glass, the 2020 possesses striking textural richness and overall intensity. Black cherry, graphite, plum, spice and lavender flesh out effortlessly. There's tremendous pedigree and sheer stature here. Cepparello is surely one of the wines of the year. Drink 2027-2045.

    Antonio Galloni – Vinous

Supple and smooth, the 2020 Cepparello brings Sangiovese to soaring heights in a manner only Paolo De Marchi can manage. This is his second to last vintage before he would retire and sell this historic estate. The wine opens to medium to full-bodied concentration with dark plum and redcurrant. Those cede to sweet spice, earth, crushed stone, rusty nail and candied orange peel. Give the wine more time to flesh out with cellar age. It registers a powerful 15% alcohol content. Izway is a partnership of two well-travelled winemakers Brian Conway and Craig Isbel. They like to keep things simple and minimalistic in the winemaking process putting a real emphasis on fruit purity and to this point use mostly older oak. So named as a tribute to two of the boys grandparents, the 2022 Rob & Les is sourced from John, Barb and Andy Kalleske’s Koonunga Hillside & the Hoffmann Mickans vineyards both located in the north of the Barossa Valley. These two vineyards complement each other perfectly and combined with the near perfect vintage conditions of 2022 have produced a wine that has great depth, richness, energy and personality.

    Silky, exuberantly fruited and seductive.

Aged in seasoned French oak. Impenetrable inky black heart with a deep dark purple black hue. Soaring out of the glass are flamboyant aromatics of dark plum, liquorice and black cherry which are complimented by fennel, smoky vanillin cedar and blackpepper notes. Rich, plush and sumptuous, the large scaled palate is engulfed with lavish dark plum, liquorice, blackberry and black cherry fruits. A Jack that's more robust than most, aged for over four years instead of just three, thus meeting the standards of the 'Bottled in Bond Act of 1897.' The act also requires that the whiskey be a product of the grain of a single season, made by one distiller at a single distillery, and aged in a federal government-bonded warehouse. The act came as a response to the widespread adulteration in American whiskey around the late 19th century. It was an attempt by the federal government to guarantee the spirit's authenticity. This also honors the era when Jack began bottling his whiskey in the signature square bottle (1895). As usual, an added Tennessee touch sees the whiskey charcoal mellowed through ten feet of sugar maple, a reminder of Jack Daniel's commitment to quality. Big one litre format. Normally duty free exclusive. 50% Alc.Vol.

The JC’s Own label is the personal project of Massena winemaker Jaysen Collins with the labels inspired by street art he sees in his travels. The fruit for this wine is sourced from a single vineyard located in the Barossa Valley sub region of Greenock. Aged for 25 months in 1 year old low toast French oak barriques a portion of pressings was included to provide additional structure.
Dense pitch black colour with a very deep black dark red hue. Heady blackberry, liquorice and dark plum scents show plenty of intensity out of the glass with hints of vanillin cedar, earthy dark chocolate and spice also chiming in. Rich and concentrated yet also possessing a sense of refinement, the palate is layered with opulent blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits. Lying beneath are earthy dark chocolate, vanillin cedar and spice elements. Polished tannin structure. Superb power with a long deeply fruited yet focused aftertaste.

Ben Jeanneret calls this curiously named wine 'Rank & File'. It's what Shiraz represents to him - the heart and soul of the Australian wine industry. Sourced from some of the best low yielding, old vine vineyards in Clare, the fruit for this wine was matured in a mixture of French and American oak for a period of 17-23 months. Year in year out this is one of our best selling Shiraz, the powerful rich black fruits and opulent feel make it irresistible drinking.

A super rich Clare Shiraz layered with a dense wall of lavish fruit that’s underscored by a muscular structure.

Impenetrable inky black heart with a very deep black dark red hue. Wafting from the glass are liquorice, black cherry liqueur like aromas and blackberry which meld into toasty vanillin cedar and peppered earth notes. Super rich, densely textured and exuberant, the full bodied palate is engulfed with lavish liquorice and black cherry liqueur flavours which are underscored by a ripe muscular tannin structure. Toasty vanillin cedar, scorched earth and blackpepper elements line the back half. Concludes long and opulent yet quite robust.

Jim Barry’s love affair with the Assyrtiko began in 2006 whilst on holiday on the Greek Island of Santorini, the birthplace of the variety. Its crisp acidity reminded him of Clare Valley Riesling yet it had a unique flavour profile that he had not experienced before. Intrigued, he began the process of importing cuttings and by 2012 had planted Australia’s first Assyrtiko vineyard.
Brilliant water like core with a subtle greenish tinge to the edges. Aromas of pear, lime and red apple skin sail out of the glass with some fresh herb and delicate slatey mineral notes also chiming in. Pear, lime and green apple fruits are amply concentrated across what is a mouth watering palate. Crisp, invigorating acidity counterpoints the wines textural volume. Infusions of Mediterranean herbs and a tonic like minerality linger through the long scrumptious finish.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.

An appealing white wine of gentle savouriness, brightness of fruit alongside that, floral lift and saline minerality. Yes thanks. It feels quite racy in texture but there's oatmeal and ginger biscuit qualities under tart lime and green apple fruitiness. The perfume is loaded with citrus blossom florals, sea spray, lime and ginger. A racy finish lends ultimate freshness. A very good vibe here. Drink by 2028.

Mike Bennie - James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion

I am shocked to discover that I have not yet reviewed a single vintage of this wine for "The Wine Advocate," despite having consumed my fair share of it and judged it at many wine shows over the years. Here, the 2024 Assyrtiko is crunchy and fleshy, with white linen, cheesecloth, brine, green apple, nashi pear, lemon barley and vanilla wafer. The wine is complex and impressively layered, with texture and flavor in profusion. This wine comes highly—and perhaps unsurprisingly to drinkers in Australia—recommended as a great dining wine. One day, as we see more vine age develop in this vineyard, we might see a premium Assyrtiko produced, in line with some of the great, old-vine beauties of Greece. One can hope. 12% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2024--2032.

With nearly 30 years spent making Penfolds Grange and developing the RWT label at Penfolds, John Duval qualifies as one of Australia's living wine legends. In 2003 he launched John Duval Wines and wasted no time sourcing some of South Australia's finest fruit. “After 35 years in the business, I know who the best growers are,” comments Duval. Today, John is joined by his son Tim who assists with both winemaking and marketing.
2022 was a standout season in Barossa vintage with mild harvest conditions allowing for even flavour accumulation and vibrant aromatics and acidity. Fruit was sourced from old vineyards in the Krondorf, Tanunda, Marananga, Ebenezer, Moppa and Eden Valley districts, the final blend being made from 85% Barossa Valley and 15% Eden Valley fruit. Maturation took place in French oak (28% new) for a period of 15 months.
Impenetrable inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Intense blackberry, liquorice and dark plum aromas engulf the nostrils complimented by vanillin oak, dark chocolate, earthy mocha and spice notes. Rich and seductive yet terrifically refined, the medium to full bodied palate has a gorgeous layer of blackberry, dark plum and liquorice fruit flowing across it. Plush in its feel it has seamlessly integrated, velvety tannins and possesses an understated power. Spicy vanillin oak, earthy mocha and pepper elements ensue. The long, silky finish the epitome of finesse and class.

Velvety opulence speaks from the moment this hits your tongue until the last drop disappears. It’s a luxurious take on the grandeur of fit, medium-bodied Shiraz, putting plush red berry characteristics on a pedestal, encasing them gently in oak and fine-gain tannin, then allowing them to saunter gracefully down the long catwalk before sashaying out the exit curtain. Bravo! Further ageing will only enhance its beauty. Drink 2024-2038.

A vibrantly coloured multi-subregional blend that shows plum, black cherry and blackberry fruits cut with hints of baking spice, cedar, vanillin, mace, licorice and earth. A thickly shouldered wine, plush with ripe fruit and creamy oaken nuance finishing long and elemental with fine, chalky tannins and a sense of mineral definition. Drink by 2038.

One of those Bourbons where a single glass is never quite enough.
    Great stuff! - Jim Murray

Located on the outskirts of Bardstown, Kentucky, lies the old Willet Distillery. Correspondence is currently pending as to the status of production, but its history dates from shortly after the repeal of prohibition in 1935. The distillery was established by brothers Thompson and Johnny Willett. The 1970s petrol crisis saw Old Willet producing alcohol as an alternate resource for fuel. The distillery closed its doors when the fuel crisis was no longer dire, unfortunately, all the whisky distilling equipment was stripped from the premises.

Enter Evan Kulsveen. Norwegian by descent, Evan married Thompson Willett's daughter, Martha, and endeavoured to bring the family distillery back to life by exporting old stock to Japan and Europe in the late 1980s when the market for Bourbon was starting to boom. The stock eventually ran out and whilst the goal of re-opening the distillery was still in sight, the cost involved made it an unviable proposition at the time. Instead, Evan started purchasing casks from multiple distilleries, masterfully creating his own whiskies, marketed under numerous labels, including ‘Old Bardstown’, ‘Kentucky Vintage’, ‘Rowans Creek’ and ‘Johnny Drum’, amongst others.

Pages on the Kentucky Bourbon Distiller’s website (a subsidiary of the distillery as a premium bottler and vendor of private brands) have indicated that the distillery is undergoing restoration (some twenty years after that promise was made!) Evan continues to operate the facility along with his children, Drew and Brit Kulsveen, continuing the line of prestigious American whiskies. We anxiously await the re-opening of this legendary Kentucky producer.

Tasting note: Copper gold colour with a gold hue. A touch of shellac at first, then the nose reveals aromas of toffee apple, mixed nuts and an enticing array of spices including clove, vanilla, anise and nutmeg over a charry oak base note. A big palate attack yields concentrated flavours of dried fruits, caramel, sweet spices and sandalwood. The mouthfeel is creamy and mildly prickly at the same time, however the whisky maintains excellent balance at this strength. Finishes soft and dry with an aftertaste of vanillan oak, creme caramel and a subtle liquorice strap fade. A big, complex Bourbon experience. 50.5% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Plenty of color, and the nose says it ain’t lying. Sharp warehouse oak aroma puts an edge on an authoritative nose of honey, Indian pudding, spicy hard candy, and old-fashioned root beer, the not-too-sugary kind. Fiery and bold on the tongue as oak roars from start to finish, but the sweetness builds sip-by-sip: cornbread, buckwheat honey, King syrup, and a teasy bit of citrus peel. Long finish as the oak dies down. At this price, let’s keep it our secret. Sourced whiskey. 88 points - www.maltadvocate.com, reviewed by: Lew Bryson (Fall 2015)

"Enduringly subtle, the tequila feels meticulously crafted and deftly balanced, light on its feet but bursting with fresh flavors. Sip it, mix with it, whatever. Just buy it." - drinkhacker.com

Launched in 2007 but relatively new to Australia, the Platino expression from Cuervo's hugely successful "Reserva De La Familia" range of premium Tequilas comes with a strong recommendation from the World Tequila Awards - amongst others. Made using 10-12 year old estate grown agaves, the tequila benefits from a proprietary method which is said to capture the steam during the cooking process, which is then turned back to water to dilute the tequila to a standardised strength. On the nose it's an almost floral blanco with an appealing grilled capsicum, tobacco and white pepper lift that follows through to vibrant flavours suggesting dried pear, light vanilla, white pepper, earthy smokiness and sappy agave. The finish is salty, drying, minerally and pleasantly warm making for a complex standalone sipper that's closer to a Reposado, at least in terms of mouthfeel. Each hand-dipped wax-sealed bottle arrives housed in a presentation box, adding to the premium vibe. Certified organic. 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Though it’s a blanco, this tequila is rested in stainless steel for 60 days before bottling, a common practice for higher-end white spirits. It doesn’t take long to see what the fuss is all about: This is instantly an expressive and engaging tequila that quickly becomes hard to put down. A gentle nose expresses notes of white pepper, lime juice, and a touch of coconut husk. Tropical and a little sweet, it’s mild and enveloping from the start. The palate keeps perfectly on message: Light sweetness paired with citrus quickly evokes a note of limeade, then moves into a light sprinkle of baking spice, green herbs, lemongrass, and another grind of white pepper. This is definitely not your father’s Cuervo, and it’s miles away from a brash, alcohol-driven experience. Enduringly subtle, the tequila feels meticulously crafted and deftly balanced, light on its feet but bursting with fresh flavors. Sip it, mix with it, whatever. Just buy it. Bottled Dec 15 2020. - drinkhacker.com

Coonawarra’s famous strip of Terra Rossa soil has long been considered to be ideal for the production of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and the Journeys End Coonawarra Station has consistently proven to be one of the best values the region has to offer. The 2021 vintage was exceptional with a long mild vintage allowing for steady increases in maturity levels of the fruit which meant winemakers could pick at optimum levels of ripeness and flavour. The resultant wines feature great depth of colour, fruit concentration and tannin structures.

A perfectly proportioned Coonawarra Cabernet that combines the variety's trademark structure with a wealth of rich, generous fruit.

Dense pitch black heart with a deep black dark red hue. The nose is drawn in by captivating and powerful scents of ripe blackcurrant, mulberry and cedary tobacco characters which are followed by hints of black olive, dusty earth and bay leaf. Rich, concentrated black currant, ripe mulberry and liquorice flavours reign supreme over a back drop of dusty vanillin cedar, tobacco, subtle black olive characters and infusions of bay leaf. A classic Cabernet Sauvignon structure of sturdy yet nicely integrated tannins frames the deep well of glorious ripe fruit. Long, robust yet generously endowed conclusion.

It’s a rare achievement in this industry for a wine to maintain its price point for more than 15 years  without sacrificing quality, even more so when it's priced under $10. But the Three Brothers Reunited Shiraz has done just that. Most new labels (particularly in the sub $20 category) start with a bang and over deliver in the first couple of vintages in an attempt to win new customer's loyalty. However, in follow up releases they often stretch expectations of quality in order to meet increased demand. Gradually the brand fades away as customers are disillusioned with what's become a lesser wine. Three Brothers, on the other hand, has made quality and consistency its number one priority, only gradually increasing production while growing a very loyal customer base that's made this our top selling red for over 20 years. Further testimony to this label's commitment to quality was demonstrated by the fact that no wine was produced from the difficult 2011 vintage - the challenging conditions simply didn't offer fruit to meet the label's required standards.

Succulent, silky textured and deeply flavoured this is the ultimate quaffing Shiraz that delivers unbeatable value.

Very deep midnight black core with a dark red black tinged hue. Nosing draws out lifted aromas of dark plum, liquorice and dark cherries followed by some toasty cedar and peppered earth notes. Rich, velvety and juicy, dark plum, liquorice and dark cherry fruits unfold across the medium to full bodied palate with scorched earth, subtle dried herb and spicy pepper characters lying underneath. Excellent concentration and fruit weight for the price. Velvet smooth tannins impart a plush feel to the long refined and highly moreish finish.

Other reviews... There is an outlandish outbreak of massive flavour on delivery, both the malt and fruit almost shrill in their proclamations of intent. This is high juiciness in excelsis, the sugars crisp and full of grist and Dmaerara. But... 85.5 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2014

Jura has introduced a new house style of ‘sweetness and smoke,’ and this spent 18 years in bourbon barrels, with a finish in red wine casks. Malt, peach blossom, raspberries, vanilla, and dark chocolate on the nose. The palate offers red berries, more chocolate, cloves, and peat. Dry red wine notes in the finish, with fruity spices and black pepper. 44% Alc./Vol. 88 points - whiskyadvocate.com, reviewed by: Gavin Smith (Fall 2018)

Imagine I haven’t tried the 18 since… Oh my, 2007! But Jura was weak back then, really. Some nasty bottlings, not all of them, but there. Now this newer expression was finished in some Bordeaux red, most sadly (not STR), but you never know, this little juice may have escaped the mighty cabernety army. Which, by the way, I just love – In my wine glass. Colour: golden amber. Nose: some earth, peonies, blood oranges marmalade, heather honey, candied cherries, leather and ginger, more earth, wallflowers, pecan pie… I have to say this is a fine, rather rich and yet pretty elegant nose. But don’t we all know that silly wine finishings usually rather fail… on the palate? Mouth: nah, they know what they’re doing. This is not my preferred style at all, and we’re rather finding more café latte plus these dusty and honeyed sides (both at the same time), but otherwise except a drying cardboard and coffee combo in the back, this would rather kind of work, relatively. Well no, I’m having trouble liking it a lot, honestly. Finish: medium, dry and a little burnt and bitter. Burnt molasses, heavy cinnamon, some sour cardboard in the aftertaste. Comments: love the distillery, the people, the master blender, the settings and some of their whiskies, but frankly, I find this one rather too difficult. Tough love. 75 points - whiskyfun.com

The fruit for this Shiraz is sourced from Kalleske’s certified organic Moppa vineyard with grapes coming from ten different blocks, the oldest of which was planted in 1961. Troy Kalleske reports that the 2023 vintage was an excellent one for quality, “Vintage 2023 has produced exceptional wines. It was the longest and latest on record, stretching from mid-March to early-May. The vines got off to a superb start with a wet and cool Spring providing plenty of sub-soil moisture for the growing season ahead. Summer typically brought average temperatures and was generally dry with occasional finite rain. The vines were in fantastic condition for slow and steady ripening into Autumn with its mild days, cool nights, and isolated light rain. Yields from 2023 are good and quality is excellent.
Small dollops of Petit Verdot and Viognier were included in the blend to provide added complexity and give the wine a contemporary edge. Maturation took place in a combination of approximately 20% new French, American and Hungarian oak hogsheads for 13 months.

Kalleske’s Greenock Shiraz is a single vineyard wine produced from low yielding vines on the Kalleske estate at Greenock, in the North-Western Barossa Valley. Cuttings for these vines originate from a vineyard planted on the property in the late 1800’s. It’s certified both organic and biodynamic with maturation taking place in a mix of 30% new American and French oak hogsheads for a period of 14 months.

Voluptuous, dense and possessing a blockbuster finish this is opulent Barossa Shiraz at its best.

Wafting out of the glass are potent scents of dark plum, ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate which intermix with black cherry, vanillin oak, earthy mocha and spicy fennel notes – a truly hedonistic sniff. Incredibly rich and concentrated, the full bodied palate is layered with a thick coating of dark plum, blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate flavours. Classic Western Barossa fruit density and flow, studded with fine, ironstone tannins, baking spices, pure macerated plum and summer berry fruits and earth, finishing long and true to its plot of sandy loam, red clay and limestone. Such vivid colour always screams freshness – and provides compelling advertisement for this longstanding biodynamic vineyard – but the bouquet suggests something larger than expected, with clean tilled soil over raspberry and redcurrant, wild sage and funky dank vineyard floor atop vibrant blackberry and blackcurrant. This wine is alive with earthy vitality, plus a rather bouncy, plump palate and the persistence of rich, plummy flavours. Where such fruit purity goes in the cellar, aided by the benefits of sound tannin and acid support, will be an intriguing journey to follow. Drink 2024-2040.

Sanaig and Machir Bay are Kilchoman’s two core products, but only the latter has had the honour of an occasional cask strength release. Prospective samples of Sanaig were floated during a 2021 Feis Isle virtual tasting. No release date was ever suggested and the label had to wait until November 2024 to finally get its own natural-strength iteration. Looking at the colour, you might think they've mistakenly filled the bottle with Loch Gorm. That's down to a high proportion of x-Oloroso sherry casks (the remaining 30% are x-Bourbon). Essentially, this release uses the same recipe as the regular Sanaig, however, we can assume casks have been cherry-picked, then bottled uncut as opposed to the regular release strength of 46% ABV. It should be a blast for Islay fans, delivering an intense combination of rich peat smoke, cinnamon sweetness and stone fruits with waves of citrus, mixed spices and dark chocolate. No outturn is stated, but the Australian allocations are likely in the hundreds, rather than the thousands. 57.8% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews...  the entry is bold and spicy, with an explosive mix of black pepper, chilli, nutmeg and aniseed, anticipating a palate of dark pastry, chocolate, red fruit (sour cherries, plums, blackberries), sweet liquorice, blood orange juice, pink grapefruit and carob. Fleshy and iodised smoke that envelops the flavours like Linus’ blanket. The addition of water accentuates the marine aspect, bringing sulphurous notes to the surface. The long finish is coastal and full, with a tingle of spices that accompany red fruits and citrus, liquorice, chocolate, coffee and a vegetal, sulphurous vein. This is closer to a Loch Gorm on steroids than the original, which could be seen as either a distortion of the classic Sanaig or a liberation of its nature. A matter of opinion, mine appreciates the fullness of a slightly rambunctious but sincere dram. - Lamberto Lamarina, whiskyart.blog

The Australian importer's single cask selection was aged in fresh Bourbon wood for just over six and a half years, then spent a further eighteen months finishing in an x-Sauternes Hogshead (sweet white wine from Bordeaux). While Kilchoman have previously released bottlings that were fully matured in Sauternes casks, this nevertheless ranks as an extended secondary maturation, compared to 5-6 months that many might consider the 'norm'. Consequently, if you're used to the style of core releases like Machir Bay or Sanaig, this offers a different Kilchoman experience. On the nose, the usually effusive maritime character is offset by notes of bush honey, dried apricots and jaffas with just a little iodine/menthol lift contributing freshness. Flavour wise, it's quite an attack - mouthfilling, textural and oily with a malty mid-palate followed by a tang of tangerine peel and a spike of heat. The Sauternes cask almost gets the better of the peat, leaving you with residual notes of sweet tobacco, chimney soot, menthol rub and dark chocolate. An after dinner treat. 56.3% Alc./Vol. 50ppm. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the importers... Nose: Driven by notes of vanilla and rich apricot with an elegant underlying peat smoke. Palate: Opening rich honey-sweetness makes way for an intense influence of almond followed by a classic Kilchoman peat smoke combined with toasted oak. Finish: Dried fruit, lemon zest and rich spice balanced with a long-lasting malty sweetness.

    ABV: 50%

A momentous release for the distillery and super limited in Australia is Kilchoman's first ever 16-year-old bottling.  Created from a combination of twenty one casks (mostly ex-bourbon barrels, with a smaller number of ex-oloroso), like most of the output from this distillery, it's peated to 50 ppm and bottled at 50% ABV. Global allocations mean stocks won't last long. Non chill filtered. Collectable.

Other reviews... Can you believe it, sixteen years already, and even more! This is a combination of oloroso sherry butts and bourbon. Quite classic, really. Let's hope the freshness hasn't been lost (S., you have to decide, do you want age or not?) Colour: deep gold. Nose: we know these batches, we know they were well peated, so we are quite surprised to discover such a soft, civilized Kilchoman, leaning towards mint, chocolate, smoked ham, crème caramel, and old white Burgundy… With water: I'll be honest, I know comparisons are not always reasonable, but this time I would have said a Port Ellen of a similar age and reduction. Off the top of my head. Mouth (neat): it feels like a slightly accelerated ageing, it could really be a 25-year-old from a southern Islay distillery. Which means it's very good, just slightly disconcerting. Maybe because of the reduction? A smoky and lemony caramel side, followed by tar, raw ham, and smoked bacon. With water: same, that 'PE' side comes out after reduction. Finish: long, graceful, and very beautiful. Comments: it's going to be quite a challenge to compare all the Islay distilleries at a similar age and in their peated versions (I say this for those from the east). Vishnu, help us! Meanwhile, this K. is really very, very beautiful, all things considered. 90 points - whiskyfun.com

Notes from the producers... Nose: Delightfully rich, with a creamy citrus sweetness and layers of cooked apples, pears, plums and nutmeg. Palate: A masterful balance of festive spices, fresh vanilla, tropical fruit and smouldering peat smoke. Finish: Dried mango and apricots with bbq smoke and lasting mouth-coating honey sweetness.
