2022 Nicks Secret BFD Reserve Barossa Shiraz
This bold Barossa Shiraz was one of Robert Parker’s darling wines in the early 2000’s meriting scores of up to 99 points. Produced from a selection of only the best barrels utilising the estate’s oldest blocks of Shiraz, this formidable wine is only released in the great vintages and whilst not widely distributed on Australian shores it can be found selling for $150.00 per bottle on the winery's website. Maturation takes place in a mix of new French and American hogsheads for a period of 30 months. Bolder, richer and deeper than the 2021 vintage, this is a super impressive follow up release that will not disappoint.
A plush, power packed Barossa Shiraz that makes a rich, decadent entrance and culminates with a dramatically long finish.
Impenetrable inky black heart with an equally deep black dark red hue. Heady aromatics of dark plum, liquorice, mocha and vanillin oak engulf the nostrils followed by whiffs of earthy dark chocolate and spicy fennel. Rich, lavish and possessing fabulous density, the ultra-seductive palate is drenched in a tidal wave of dark plum, blackberry and liquorice fruits which meld into a dark chocolate, spicy vanillin oak, subtle earthy mocha and fennel back drop. Plush in texture and powered by a high impact V8 engine, it possesses a velvety yet underlying sturdy tannin structure, concluding exceptionally long and sumptuous.

Other Reviews….
Under cork, this wine is a barrel selection from the estate's oldest blocks of Shiraz. It is restricted to those vintages considered worthy. Maturation is for two and a half years in a mix of new French and American oak hogsheads. An inky opaque maroon, the nose reveals notes of blackberries, plums, mocha, soy, cedar, tobacco leaves, truffles, cassis and chocolate. The oak integration has been deftly handled and the wine has superb balance and great length. Intensity runs for the full journey, along with a line of bright acidity, finishing with the silkiest of tannins. Stunning stuff.

A sumptuous offering with sophistication and refinement, the seductive bouquet shows dark fruit intensity, warm spice, charcuterie, toasty oak, and mocha characters. The palate is opulent and plush with outstanding depth and richness, wonderfully complemented by layers of chalky tannins, making it firmly structured with an impressively long, graceful finish. At its best: now to 2042.
