2021 Nicks Secret BFD Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon
From the same producer as the 2022 Nicks Secret BFD Reserve Barossa Shiraz comes this terrific Barossa Cabernet that’s presented in a formidably sized Napa Valley styled bottle.
A bold, powerful expression of Barossa Cabernet layered with deeply concentrated dark to black fruits.
Impenetrable inky black heart with an equally deep dark red black hue. Soaring out of the glass are ripe blackcurrant, dark plum, liquorice and choc mint scents which are complimented by some spicy vanillin cedar, subtle tobacco and earthy mocha notes. Rich, dense and powerful, lavish blackcurrant, dark plum and choc mint flavours are layered across the full bodied palate. Vanillin cedar, earthy mocha, liquorice and spicy tobacco characters lend further nuance. Boasting magnificent concentration and depth, it has ripe, slightly chewy tannins and a long opulent finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Cabernet sauvignon from the deep clay over limestone of the **** vineyard, matured in French oak for 30 months. Deep crimson with rich aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis and black cherry, hints of star anise, bay leaf, clove, pastis, crushed herbs, cedar, tobacco, pan juices, a touch of leather, black olive, briar and earth. Full bodied and graceful in its travel, with a core of rich black fruits, superfine, powdery tannin and a blackcurrant pastille edge to the acidity. Cellaring upside here, for sure. Drink by 2046.

Stands to reason that a vintage like 2021 should be ideally suited to Barossa Cabernet, a variety that continually shows how well it can perform in good years. This one is such a powerhouse, loaded with opulent fruit, and yet it delivers with poise and that Cabernet structure that you’re looking for. Aromas of blackberry and dark ripe plum, with a little spice and roasted character evident. It’s rich and opulent, but with a velvety mouthfeel. Lots to like here. Drink 2025-2040.

A magnificent rendition of the variety with aromas of blackcurrant, tobacco, cured meat, and cedar on the nose. The palate displays excellent concentration and persistence, wonderfully complemented by a fleshy texture and beautifully infused, chalky tannins. It finishes with a great line and length. At its best: now to 2038.
