2024 Nicks Secret YP Barossa Valley Shiraz
Produced by a husband and wife team whose wines have previously featured under our Nicks Secret guise, this Shiraz is sourced from a number of different Barossa sub districts with maturation taking place in seasoned French oak.
Rich, lush and plump yet possessing a savoury edge, this is a classic modern-day rendition of Barossa Shiraz that delivers unbelievable value.
Midnight black at its core with a dark red black tinged hue. Intense dark plum, liquorice and blueberry scents infused with spice and peppered fennel like accents sail through the olfactory senses. Subtle vanillin cedar and dried herb notes also chime in. Rich and plush, layered across the medium to full bodied palate are succulent dark plum, liquorice and ripe blueberry fruits. Infusions of herbs du Provence, vanillin spice, fennel and pepper lurk underneath. Velvet smooth tannins finishing long, plump and lush yet with a savoury edge.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
Alc. 13.4%
Other Reviews….
Using that whole cluster and early picking approach that was adopted with the Grenache Cinsault Mourvèdre blend, the result is a wine of immense vibrancy and energy. It was treated fairly kindly in the winery, with natural fermentation in open fermenters, and then time in oak before basket pressing. It only had a short time in oak, but that was an important part of the process, bringing everything together in a harmonious way. Lovely jubey red fruits with those cherry, plummy mulberry characters evident. Smooth, textured, with almost no oak evident, but the fruit is exceptional. Drink 2025-2033.
