This Nicks Secret Shiraz is a rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully matured Barossa Shiraz at a fraction of it’s normal price. Rich, silky textured and seductive, it pairs Barossa’s signature plush fruit with complexing tertiary elements. Situated along the banks of the North Para River at Rowland Flat in the Southern Barossa Valley and produced from old vines, it’s crafted by a seventh-generation winemaking family.

Plush and silky, this is a beautifully matured Barossa Shiraz that’s in it’s prime drinking window.

Midnight black heart with a dark brick red hue. The olfactory senses are filled with scents of dark plum, liquorice and peppered fennel. Trailing notes of vanillin oak, earthy mocha, smoked meat and subtle leather then chime in. Rich and silky, the palate is draped with a seductive wave of dark plum, liquorice and smoky fennel flavours which meld into a back drop of earthy vanillin oak, dried meat, leather and spicy mocha characters. Voluptuous mouth feel with seamlessly integrated, cashmere like tannins interwoven through the long, plush finish.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews….
Beautifully maturing with seductive complexity, the bouquet shows dark fruit richness, fine leather, cake spice, and assorted nut characters. The palate is wonderfully weighted and plush, complemented by silky texture and beautifully melded tannins, making it gracefully opulent and delectably appealing. At its best: now to 2030.

An impressive example of a mature Barossa Shiraz from a vineyard now more than 100 years old. Engaging from the outset with aromas of dark chocolate, liqueur cherry, a little earth, subtle leathery notes, and rich prune-like characters. The palate is dense and concentrated, with great weight seamlessly integrated with subtle oak and supported by fine tannins. It seems to be just entering a tertiary stage, and it appears to have plenty of time ahead of it, as you’d expect from this vintage. Drink 2025-2035.

Not often one comes across a new release red with this amount of time under its belt, especially at a price like this. 1926 is the year that the **** family purchased the estate. A mature red with good complexity, the colour is a dark maroon. Time has allowed the oak to merge impeccably and the nose gives us notes of tobacco leaves, dried herbs, plums and smoked meats. As we move to the palate we see more soy, beefstock and vegemite characters. There is fine balance and very good length, finishing with soft, furry tannins. Still five to eight years of pleasure ahead of it, it has matured superbly and should continue to do so.
