Rich and exuberant, with striking aromatic presence, the 2025 Clos des Jacobins is superb. I can’t wait to see how it ages, it is so compelling today. Bright red-toned fruit, spice, cedar, tobacco, mint and a kick of pomegranate liven up the close. This is impeccably done. Drink 2030-2045.

A ripe, dense, powerful Saint-Emilion, the 2025 Clos Des Jacobins reveals blackberry, darker cherries, graphite, and chocolaty herb notes on the nose. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with ripe tannins, ample mid-palate depth, and a great finish.

Bright and expressive nose, full of perfumed roses, smells gorgeous. Round and filling, chewy tannins give a really lively and massy expression but with cool liquorice, wet stone and slate aspects around the side. It’s calm, certainly not as acidic and lively as some, but I love the confidence and completeness of this wine. Yummy and just really moreish. Excellent structure and extraction without being too much. Drink 2029-2043.

2025 Chateau Cheval Blanc Pre-Arrival Offer
    Saint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $999. 00
    Bottle
    $11988.00 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Chateau Cheval Blanc has been at the forefront of viticulture and cellar technology all the way back to the 1800’s, and with their recent renovation works they again have some of the most modern facilities in the region. While situated in Saint-Emilion, much of the vineyard holdings are adjacent to the Pomerol plateau, which goes some way to explaining the often rich, voluptuous style of their wines. Currently planted to 49% Cabernet Franc, 47% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, vineyard rework is aiming to bring the mix back to the original proportions of 55% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

    Other Reviews...
A blend of 51% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2025 Château Cheval Blanc stands out once again as among the finest wines of the vintage in Bordeaux. Wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of dark berries and cherries mingled with notions of blood orange and iris, it's full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with terrific mid-palate density, sweet tannins and a long, vibrant, violet-inflected finish. With its striking aromas, intensity of flavor and resolutely classical proportions (checking in at 12.7% alcohol and pH of 3.76), the 2025 gives every indication of being one of the great Cheval Blancs of the decade.

William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Cheval Blanc is seamless and textured. A wine of mystery and seduction, the 2025 dazzles. Time in the glass brings out the wine's tension and energy. Sage, mint, lavender, cloves and cool, blue-toned fruit all build in the glass. In one tasting, Cheval Blanc was massively tannic; in a second tasting, those tannins were much more seamless, highlighting how differently wines can show from day to day. In the case of Cheval Blanc, en primeur samples are mini-bottlings, and both samples I tasted came from the same batch.
Yields in 2025 were just 15 hectoliters per hectare, tiny by any measure. The winemaking team, led by Pierre-Olivier Clouet, used 46 of the 47 parcels on the estate for the Grand Vin. A small amount of wine was sold in bulk; the rest was bottled as Grand Vin. There is no Petit Cheval. Time on skins ran from 26 to 32 days, longer than the 22-28 that's more typical. For those who care about the data, alcohol is just 12.7%, which is hard to believe, with brisk acids that clock in at 3.76 pH. In many vintages Cheval Blanc can be exuberant, but the 2025 is rather closed, more of an intellectual wine that will require years in bottle to truly show everything it has to offer. Drink 2035-2075.

Perfumed, with aromas of flowers, brambleberries and wild berries. Medium-bodied with tight, fine tannins that run forever on the palate. Hints of cedar, mushrooms and bark. Crunchy at the end. Just a hint of fancy bitterness and chocolate. Transparent and complete.

A saturated purple hue, the 2025 Château Cheval Blanc is a unique, dense, powerful, and streamlined Cheval Blanc with remarkable purity. The nose offers lots of red, blue, and black fruits intermixed with floral, graphite, and inky nuances, and on the palate, it's powerful and medium to full-bodied, tasting like the distilled essence of this château. It has ripe, polished tannins, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish, although it certainly has very little in the way of baby fat or opulence. Based on 51% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, with yields of just 15 hectoliters per hectare (no Petit Cheval was produced), it checks in at just 12.7% alcohol with a pH of 3.76. The vintage draws comparisons to 1961 and 1949, and it's going to be incredibly interesting to follow this wine's evolution over the next 40-50 years.

One of the lowest yields of Cheval Blanc ever at just 15hl/ha with no Petit Cheval made this year. Chinese five spice, cedar, cinnamon, rose buds, soy, purple flowers, blackcurrants and cherries on the nose. Supple and fleshy, round and enveloping yet softly chalky so you get weight but not massive density in the glass. Tannins are wonderful and the power comes underneath not at the fore. Suave, fresh and floats along the palate – generous yet reined in, glossy, bright with lovely acidity. Almost a bit shy and quiet but so well controlled. I love it for its delicacy and hands-off approach. Definitely not a showstopper but given the conditions it’s incredible how they ended up here. Complex, charming, soft, pretty and delicious without trying too hard at all. 3.76pH. Drink 2033-2050.

    Georgina Hindle - Decanter

Purple in hue, the wine explodes with an array of flowers, smoky truffles, black plums, black cherries, blue fruits, orange rind, tobacco leaf, licorice, and chocolate in the perfume. However, the palate is the main event. The mouthfeel perfectly balances its hedonistic tendencies with a touch of reticence, in a good way. There is length, volume, intensity, opulence, and lift. The seamless finish provides silk and velvet tannins, allowing the depth and purity of the fruit to stand out in the extensive, vibrant finish. The key to the vintage was the combination of a dry summer, which lowered yields, and the much-needed August rains, which brought about full maturity. 46 of 47 parcels were placed into the blend. It is important to note that no second wine was produced. Even more importantly, very little Cheval was produced. Yields were a scant 15 hectoliters per hectare, making this the lowest yields in the history of the estate. The wine is made from 51% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. 12.7% ABV, 3.6 pH. The harvest began September 18 for the Merlot, finishing their Cabernet Franc on October 3. Drink from 2030-2070.

    2025 Chateau L'Evangile Pre-Arrival Offer
    Pomerol, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $299. 00
    Bottle
    $3588.00 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Long considered one of the top three wines of Pomerol (along with Petrus and Vieux Chateau Certan), Chateau L’Evangile is planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and produce a full bodied, rich, opulent, and long lived wine. The Chateau is under the same ownership as Chateau Lafite Rothschild.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 L'Evangile is showing well, bursting with aromas of sweet cherries, dark berries, spices and licorice, framed by nicely integrated oak. On the palate, it's medium- to full-bodied, with a rather rich, powerful profile, built around ripe but youthfully structuring tannins. It's a blend of 87% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, some 40% of which is being matured in foudre. The vintage conditions, which produced very small berries (as little as 0.6 grams for Cabernet Franc growing on gravel), have delivered an Evangile of unusual density.
    93-95 points
William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 L'Évangile has been given new impetus by winemaker Juliette Couderc. It is initially backward, but it really comes forth with a few swirls of the glass: black cherries, mint and juniper berries, just a hint of truffle, quite vibrant and vivacious. Wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins, a fine bead of acidity, superb minéralité, as if there were a bit of limestone soil, but there is none. Very saline on the aftertaste with impressive length. This is a marvellous L'Évangile given the growing season, and it seems imbued with so much personality. Drink 2032-2060.

The aromas of blackberries, black olives and hints of tobacco and dried fruit are fascinating and enticing. It’s medium- to full-bodied with creamy and polished tannins and a savory finish. Turns refined and focused after the layered fruit. Classic in character, with a caressing texture and balance. Hints of ripe fruit and freshness at the same time. 86% merlot, 13% cabernet franc and 1% cabernet sauvignon.

    James Suckling

A Merlot-heavy blend of 86% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon harvested between August 26th and September 15th, the 2025 Château L'Evangile will spend time in 40% new barrels, 40% foudre, 5% amphora, and the rest in once-used barrels. It has lots of cassis and juicy cherry fruit intermixed with graphite, lead pencil, violets, and classy oak on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a pure, focused mouthfeel, fine tannins, and outstanding length. Checking in at 13.7% alcohol with a pH of 3.75, it's a serious, concentrated 2025 that brings considerable structure, remarkable purity, and a great finish.

Nice plump roundness on the palate with a touch of strawberry acidity to bring some life and lift. Quite serious, fine tannins, a cool crisp, blue fruit edge with a lot of liquorice and wet stone aspects – a mineral, salty, spiced grip on the finish. I like the frame, not too heavy but it’s still quite tight. I don’t find the density of 2022 or 2023 but there’s definitely charm on offer in a cool, serious way right now with a hint of gloss. Ageing 5% amphora. 40% foudre. 45% new oak. 10% used barrels. 3,7pH. A yield of 22hl/ha. Drink 2033-2048.

The 2025 de Fieuzal, harvested between September 4 and 26, is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. It wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, mulberries, wisteria and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and precise, it’s built around a fleshy core of fruit framed by velvety, finely grained tannins and concludes with a long, ethereal and perfumed finish. More structured than usual, it remains well balanced, supported by lively acidity and a subtle, gastronomic bitterness on the finish. It's a classical expression and one of the more compelling values in Bordeaux this year.

Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Château de Fieuzal has an understated bouquet with red berry fruit, sous-bois and light marine scents that gradually opens up with aeration. I would have liked to have seen more vigour in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with an edgy opening. More herbaceous than expected, it almost seems there was a bit of stem addition à la Les Carmes! It does cohere a little in the glass, so I am intrigued to see how it shows in bottle, though I remain prudent with my score for now. Drink 2028-2037.

Ripe black cherries, assorted blue fruits, graphite, and freshly sharpened pencil notes all define the 2025 Château De Fieuzal, a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot that's being raised in 40% new French oak with the balance in once-used barrels and 10% amphora. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a concentrated, layered mouthfeel, remarkable purity, and a great finish. The purity and quality of the tannins are first-rate, and this is a brilliant Pessac-Léognan in the making.

    Jeb Dunnuck

Ripe red and blackberry fruit aromas introduce a palate with freshening acidity that in this case enhances the impression of juicy, succulent fruit, not hard tannins. The finish is long and flavorful, reinforcing the wine’s balance between ripeness and energy, making it a compelling en primeur showing. A second tasting at Château Olivier the same day found the wine a touch tighter and more reserved, but the underlying quality and harmony remain clear. Drink 2030-2044.

The 2025 Kirwan takes a little time to settle in the glass, but it is worth the wait as it coalesces and reveals very seductive blackberry and blueberry fruit, pressed violet and light undergrowth scents. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with silky, smooth tannins, a keen line of acidity, velvety and caressing, with ample weight on the quintessentially Margaux finish. What a beautiful wine in the making. Drink 2032-2055.

Juicy red and blue fruits, spicy wood, graphite, and plenty of exotic floral nuances all define the 2025 Château Kirwan. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has juicy acidity and nicely integrated, soft tannins. I suspect this charming, complex, satisfying Margaux will shine right out of the gate.

Great florality on the nose, juicy, succulent, crisp and ripe at the same time. This has energy and life, still compact and fully tannic but I like the confidence and upfront nature. They haven’t held back here but managed a fun, fruity, grippy and full of life style with refined edges and plenty of underlying power. Mint, liquorice, tobacco and wet stones on the finish. Rich, lush and plump yet possessing a savoury edge, this is a classic modern-day rendition of Barossa Shiraz that delivers unbelievable value.

Midnight black at its core with a dark red black tinged hue. Intense dark plum, liquorice and blueberry scents infused with spice and peppered fennel like accents sail through the olfactory senses. Subtle vanillin cedar and dried herb notes also chime in. Rich and plush, layered across the medium to full bodied palate are succulent dark plum, liquorice and ripe blueberry fruits. Infusions of herbs du Provence, vanillin spice, fennel and pepper lurk underneath. Velvet smooth tannins finishing long, plump and lush yet with a savoury edge.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
    Alc. 13.4%

Using that whole cluster and early picking approach that was adopted with the Grenache Cinsault Mourvèdre blend, the result is a wine of immense vibrancy and energy. It was treated fairly kindly in the winery, with natural fermentation in open fermenters, and then time in oak before basket pressing. It only had a short time in oak, but that was an important part of the process, bringing everything together in a harmonious way. Lovely jubey red fruits with those cherry, plummy mulberry characters evident. Smooth, textured, with almost no oak evident, but the fruit is exceptional. Drink 2025-2033.

Black Tot Historic Solera Caribbean Rum (700ml)
    Caribbean,
    $159. 99
    Bottle
    $1919.88 Dozen
    ABV: 46.2%

Elixir Distillers have been back at the blending table working on the latest addition to the Black Tot range. Named 'Historic Solera' and composed of rums aged in both tropical and European environments, the mix includes 40% 3-5 Year Old Guyana Pot/Column distilled rums, 35% 5 Year Old Barbados Pot/Column still blended rum, 20% Unaged Guyana Pot/Column blended rum and 5% 3 Year Old Jamaica High Ester Pot Still rum. Maturation took place in ex-bourbon barrels, seasoned with Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherries followed by further ageing in a traditional three-tier Solera process. They claim it gives the product a depth and consistency that cannot be replicated using seasoned casks or a vatting alone. The final rum was bottled non-chill filtered with no added sugar. This is set to remain part of Black Tot's core range, as the Solera system casks are never fully emptied, meaning the remaining rum continually ages and promises more depth and nuance as younger liquid is added to the increasingly aged stock. 46.2% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... The combination of proper Oloroso, esters and old oak gives this a decidely sour and slightly winey edge along with the dark fruits. Overall it leans firmly towards the sherry, creating a brandy-like style that could disappoint die-hard rum lovers, in my opinion. I think it is a rather unique product, but the rum is pushed to the background. - whiskynotes.be

...From the Chicago Rum festival, this was a highlight I was looking for early. Some folks were on the fence about this one but I enjoyed the sample a lot. This is not Masters Reserve standards but not far off. a much elevated Caribbean's finest offering. The blend and resulting flavors work well for me but what really makes a difference is the Sherry finish. Not too sweet, not too dry - just perfect. This feels like a cold Friday night by a warm fire pour - multiple pours. I'm a fan and not an outrageous price. - rumratings.com

    NETHERLANDS
    $84. 99
    Bottle
    $1019.88 Dozen
    ABV: 35%

This Jonge Genever is a special recipe developed by Patrick van Zuidam. The mash is composed of equal parts rye, corn and malted barley distilled three times after fermentation and then distilled again with a special blend of botanicals featuring juniper and liquorice as well as various other aromatic herbs and spices. This results in an unaged, fruity and fresh genever. 35% Alc./Vol.

The Zuidam Distillery was started back in 1975 by Fred van Zuidam as a deliberately contained operation with one small copper still. It took more than a decade to forge their present reputation as the finest distillery in the Netherlands. In 1989 Zuidam expanded their warehouse to 600 square meters and one production line. Presently, both sons, Patrick and Gilbert, run the distillery under the watchful eyes of their parents. With four brand new copper stills, over 1000 oak barrels, four production lines and modern tank storage, Zuidam is now a state of the art operation, however, they have held on to one throwback from the past - Windmills. These are used to mill the grains destined for their Genevers and Malt Whisky. It not only preserves this iconic piece of Dutch heritage, but more importantly, the producers believe that the traditional slow grind causes almost no increase in the temperature of the grains and thus helps preserve the wonderful aromas.

Williams & Humbert Don Guido 20 Year Old Solera Special Pedro Ximenez Sherry (500ml)
    Jerez, SPAIN
    $109. 99
    Bottle
    $1319.88 Dozen
    ABV: 18%
    Closure: Cork

Other reviews... Don Guido is the oldest Pedro Ximénez wine in the range of bodegas Williams & Humbert. It is one of three VOS / VORS sherries of the house (20+ years old in this case). Guy (Guido) Williams (1889-1959) was the son of Alexander Williams and Amy Humbert. His father had come to Jerez in the 1860s to work in the bodegas Wisdom & Warter, where he met his wife and later (1877) set up the Williams & Humbert business with his brother in law Arthur Humbert. Don Guido started working in the business just before the first World War while also becoming the viceconsul of Britain in Spain. The Pedro Ximénez grapes for this wine are dried in the sun for 15 days before being pressed, and the musts are immediately fortified to 9%. They are then decanted, filtered, fortified further to 18% and added to the solera where they stay for at least 20 years. The bottled wine contains around 380 grams of sugar per liter. Nose: full of prunes, dried figs and sweet raisins. Caramelized sugar, sticky toffee pudding and cocoa nibs. Very sweet of course, but nicely balanced with spicy notes (pepper, cinnamon) and light herbal notes. Its age also brings out a hint of polished oak. Mouth: concentrated with a low acidity and an impressive viscosity, yet it’s easy to drink. Chocolate coated raisins, dates and hints of Dutch liquorice. Some nutty notes and spices. A very light mentholated edge. Ends with a hint of Turkish coffee. - sherrynotes.com

...Rich and pruney, with bold, reduced black fruit aromas along with chocolate and spice. Compact and delicious in the mouth, with caramel, black coffee and other yummy, unctuous flavors. So thick it pours like motor oil, thus feel free to drink it like a wine or pour it on vanilla ice cream as you might a syrup. 92 points -  Michael Schachner, wineenthusiast.com

The "Sample Room" is Glenlivet's innovation centre for testing novel cask combinations. It's also the name of a new series that replaces the previous 'Archive' label. Launched in 2022 and featuring whiskies designed to be deeper, richer and more experimental than the standard core range, the creative influence of barrel expert, Kevin Balmforth shifts the focus to innovative, cask-driven profiles with high-end luxury, multi-cask maturations.

Other reviews... Beyond the complicated maturation of first and second-fill barrels, hogsheads, and butts, this whisky has been finished in PX and Tronçais oak cognac casks. Inky plums, aromatic roasted spice, stewed fruits, citrus peel, and cedarwood mark out a luxurious medley of aromas. Spectacularly jammy with thick sherry notes, damsons, cinnamon, dried fruit, ginger spices, apricot, and toasted oak with each sip. Who's got the cigars? 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com

A finish in first-fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry and ex-Cognac casks made from oak from the Tronçais forest, top-notch wood! Colour: deep gold. Nose: it’s really all on patchouli and dried figs at first, then moves swiftly into plum tart dusted with cinnamon, followed by chestnut honey subtly laced with black pepper. I must say I’m rather fond of this nose, PX and Cognac or not. A beautifully crafted aromatic profile, very classy indeed. Mouth: same impression, this is very well put together, elegant and reasonably full of flavours of cake, honey and soft spices, with cinnamon leading the pack. Lovely touches of marzipan-stuffed dates and then vine peach jam, which may well be the Cognac speaking. Finish: not hugely long at this strength, but still balanced, drifting more towards chocolate filled with raisins. Comments: I really like this very elegant, gentle and flavourful Glenlivet, certainly more so than the old 25 ‘XXV’ from a good ten years ago. 88 points - whiskyfun.com

Clean, light flavors; lime jelly, root ginger, initially not overly sweet, then a boost of honey, caramelized fruits, with toffee and cocoa later still. Cut Hill Distillery is located on a 40-acre property in South Australia at Hindmarsh Valley next to Victor Harbour. The name is derived from an historic drystone wall. This is the very first release from the 'rebranded' distillery and it comes matured in locally sourced red wine casks, some seasoned with McLaren Vale Mead liqueur which adds fruit cake flavours to the palate. Spiced dates and pudding are overlaid and supported by dry red wine varietals in predominantly American oak, carefully aged in the drying conditions of the maritime micro-climate of the Fleurieu Peninsula. The producers notes describe aromas and flavours of toast, sultana, banana chips and a delicate, warming, medium long finish. 47.3% Alc./Vol.

Tropical, floral, and perfectly balanced, like all gin should be, this delivers, with a punch of mango, pineapple and lemon, followed by juniper, rose petal, and finally coriander seeds - for a sneaky and subtle kick. Designed to be enjoyed by gin drinkers and non-gin drinkers alike - great with tonic, in a gin mojito, or straight in a glass. Recommended with Fevertree Mediterranean tonic with a slice of orange to ensure maximum enjoyment. 42% Alc./Vol.

    $2039.88 Dozen
    ABV: 48%

There have been a handful of distillers who've experimented with native timbers. Backwoods is one of the latest efforts, with a single malt made from Australian-grown barley, smoked using native red gum wood, and matured for five years in American oak casks that previously held corn whisky. Fewer than 200 bottles have been produced, making it one of their smallest releases to date! 48% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the producers... On the nose, it opens with perfumed smoke — soft, aromatic, and inviting — layered with rich honey, ripe cherry, and a gentle nuttiness. The palate is smooth yet expressive, where smoke and sweetness move in harmony. Fruity honey and stone fruit richness meet toasted almond and subtle tobacco, all carried by a buttery depth that gives the whisky its weight and texture. The finish is long and evolving — browned butter, soft oak, and lingering campfire smoke that slowly fades, leaving a warming, nostalgic impression.

Notes of dark berries, cassis, spices and licorice, mingled with delicately oaky nuances, preface the 2025 Laroque. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it’s built around a rich core of fruit that is framed by youthful, structured tannins and concludes with a taut, saline finish. While the bouquet shows a darker register, the palate remains fresh, lending the wine an elegant austerity that should integrate further with élevage.
    91-93 points
Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Laroque is a gorgeous, super-elegant wine. Vibrant, salivating acids and beams of tannin are the first signs we are on the clay/limestone plateau in Saint-Émilion's Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes sector. Blood orange, mint, chalk and white pepper bleed into a core of red-toned fruit. Medium in body, with striking energy and tension, Laroque is positively stellar in 2025. This is another superb showing from the team led by Technical Director David Suire. Tasted two times. Drink 2033-2055.

    James Suckling

Tasted twice with consistent results, the 2025 Château Laroque is a gorgeous wine in the making based on 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc that will spend 16 to 18 months in a mix of new barriques, second-use barrels, and foudre. Cassis and black raspberry fruits, graphite, spring flowers, and violet nuances all shine on the nose, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a pure, graceful mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It shows the more focused, structured style of the vintage, yet the tannins are remarkably polished. Checking in at 13.8% alcohol with a pH of 3.4 and yields of 31 hectoliters per hectare, this is a brilliant effort from this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé that's going to have some early accessibility yet also evolve gracefully.

Another great success and value pick for Laroque. Really aromatically complex. Ripe and pristine black bramble berries on the nose, perfumed and nicely fragrant. Lovely aromatic purity. Smooth and so silky, smooth, svelte as Laroque does so well. Mouthwatering with bright acidity but so juicy – strawberry and cherry with a hint of cranberry and soft accents of dried herbs liquorice and wet stones. Grippy but so charming even at this point. Tension with freshness, perfectly polished and friendly. A yield of 31hl/ha with varying yields depending on the terroir from 25-45hl/ha. 3.40pH. Drink 2030-2048.

The 2025 Belgrave reveals an attractive bouquet of dark berries, cassis, mulberries and spice, becoming more floral with aeration. Medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it’s structured and tannic, with good length, concluding with a gently lead pencil–inflected finish. The gravelly terroir asserts itself more clearly than in recent vintages, lending the wine added finesse and a more defined mineral edge.

The 2025 Belgrave is impressive. Aromatic, deep and layered, Belgrave has so much to offer. Blue-toned fruits, lavender, espresso and chocolate are front and center. James Suckling

Juicy and lively, supple and fleshy with a strawberry juice vein – a little chalky still on the mid-palate – just losing some of the initial vibrancy but this has lots of tannin presence with a long, salty, cola grip. I like the depth and the frame, this is one that will benefit from ageing. Cool wild blueberry notes on the nose. Fully tannic but bouncy and soft, really cushioning with blueberry. I like the purity and focus, it’s a little light in terms of persistence but there’s balance and it'll round out. Harvest 3rd September until the 19th. 13%. A yield of 24hl/ha. Named after its most famous owner, Pope Clement V, Chateau Pape Clement in Pessac Leognan makes both red and white wine from their 32.5 hectare vineyard. Vineyards for the red wine is planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, while the soils here are a complex mix of gravel and clay over a base of clay, limestone and sandstone. Maturation takes place in 100% new French oak, and while Bernard Magrez has refined the style since taking over winemaking duties the wines are still rich and lush in style with a concentration of ripe fruit.

The 2025 Pape Clément is magnificent. The aromatics alone are captivating. Strong floral and savory notes soar from the glass. Lavender, rose petal, sage, mint and mocha lead into a core of wonderfully vibrant red/purplish fruit. Medium in body and deep, Pape Clément is positively stellar in 2025. The Cabernets and Petit Verdot add tons of aromatic presence. Élevage is 85% in barrique and 15% in foudre, with a relatively modest 33% new oak. Drink 2035-2065.

Really floral on the nose, expressive with ripe red and black fruit, incense perfumed scents and a rich headiness with such aromatic purity. Supple and velvety, round and lively with quite a delicate style here where the focus is on the clarity of the blueberry fruit and the lifted aspects rather than fleshiness or power. Almost understated, a word not often used with Pape. A soft salty, wet stone and chalky aspect on the finish. Definitely fresh with lots of energy here. Elegant and precise with a soft chew on the finish and ripe fruit. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 3.68pH. A yield of 29hl/ha. Ageing 85% in barrels (1/3 new) and 15% in foudres. Rich, vivid and textured, the 2025 Pape Clément Blanc is outrageously beautiful. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, tangerine peel, mint and white pepper soar from the glass. All the elements are so well balanced. This builds beautifully through to the intense, palate-staining finish. In 2025, the Blanc is quite simply magnificent—clearly one of the wines of the vintage. Straw, ripe peach and some waxy lemon aspects with really floral and fragrant aromas on the nose – smells rich and enticing. Beautiful succulence with a dollop of pineapple, lemon and lime, creamy vanilla and peach plus a touch of oiliness that gives amplitude and width. I love the intensity and delicacy here, a wine you really want to drink, full of fruit yet crystalline, focused, mineral, saline and salivating with fruit purity and impressive length. The 2025 Lacoste-Borie, a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, planted at a lower density of 7,000 vines per hectare (versus 9,000 for Grand-Puy-Lacoste), is now more clearly defined and no longer conceived simply as a second wine. It reveals a gourmand, fresh bouquet of red berries, followed by a medium-bodied, juicy and elegant palate framed by fresh, velvety tannins and concluding with a long, ethereal and fruity finish. This is a refined and very appealing wine.

Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Lacoste-Borie is now labelled "Vignes du Parc", in reference to the fact that this comes from different soils and planting density, i.e. different to Grand Puy Lacoste. It has a vivacious bouquet with abundant redcurrant and strawberry scents, well defined, with just a light hint of bell pepper from the 8% Cabernet Franc. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, good tension, a seam of graphite that pins it down as Pauillac. Modest length. This has a pleasing rondeur that will make it approachable and charming, yet there is still fine substance. This would make a perfect introduction to the delights of Pauillac. Drink 2030-2050.

Beautiful vibrant colour in the glass with a pink rim. So fragrant with rose petals and red cherries – smells pristine, really clear and clean. Smooth and sappy with lovely succulence straight away and mouthwatering acidity. This is delicious, tastes like grape juice with grippy tannins and a chalky, graphite finish. Crunchy, delicate yet super flavourful, crisp with high acidity and lovely Cabernet freshness plus mint, aniseed and clove spice. Strength is there. A yield of 30hl/ha. New cellar with more precise plot selection. Small crop but good quality. Earliest ever Merlot harvest on 4 September, Cabernets picked 14-18th. 2025 Clos Haut Peyraguey (375ml) Pre-Arrival Offer
    Sauternes, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $44. 99
    Bottle
    $539.88 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Clos Haut-Peyraguey traces its origins to the seventeenth century, when it formed part of the same large Sauternes estate as Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey, before being separated in the late nineteenth century with the highest and best-situated parcels retained as Clos Haut-Peyraguey. The name Peyraguey, derived from the local word for hill, reflects its elevated position in the commune of Bommes, where the vineyard sits among the highest slopes of the appellation, close to Chateau d'Yquem. The 21-hectare estate, classified as a Premier Cru in 1855 and notable as the smallest of the top-ranked properties at the time, is planted predominantly to Semillon with a smaller proportion of Sauvignon Blanc on gravel, sand and clay soils. Vinification and ageing take place in French oak, with maturation in up to 50 percent new barrels, producing a classically structured Sauternes that reflects both its altitude and historic pedigree.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 Clos Haut-Peyraguey is a very delicate, nuanced wine. Hints of passion fruit, crème brûlée, mint, chamomile, floral-infused honey and orange confit fill out the layers. Soft contours add to the wine's total feeling of finesse, shaping the regal mid-palate and finish. Drink 2030-2055.

The 2025 Clos Haut-Peyraguey was picked in three passes between 19 September and 7 October with 140 g/l residual sugar. This is quite pure and delineated on the nose with vanilla pod, acacia honey, French patisserie and light almond scents. The palate is well balanced with a viscous entry. The acidity here is very well judged, the pure botrytis coming through and shaping the very focused finish. Maybe not the most complex Sauternes that I tasted in what was a fecund vintage, but one of the finest Clos Haut-Peyraguey I have tasted at this early juncture. Drink 2031-2059.

Gorgeous aromas of orange, clementine and grapefruit with orange blossom, honey, straw and salted caramel vanilla. Juicy and so lively, lifted and almost sharp which perfectly counters the sugary mid-palate with buttery popcorn, butterscotch, pineapple and apricot fruit. I love the mineral, flinty finish. Sharp, bright, tangy and rich but ends clean and focused with impressive attention to detail and such focused purity on show. 140g/l residual sugar (one of the lowest in the appellation this year). 2025 Clos Haut Peyraguey Pre-Arrival Offer
    Sauternes, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $89. 99
    Bottle
    $1079.88 Dozen

    Antonio Galloni - Vinous

    93-95 points
    Neal Martin - Vinous

Lots of botrytis character. Ample, unctuous and decadent, with medium acidity and a richly expressive, almost excessive palate underpinned by a subtle stony texture.
    93-94 points
    Jacobo García Andrade - JamesSuckling.com

Gorgeous aromas of orange, clementine and grapefruit with orange blossom, honey, straw and salted caramel vanilla. Juicy and so lively, lifted and almost sharp which perfectly counters the sugary mid-palate with buttery popcorn, butterscotch, pineapple and apricot fruit. I love the mineral, flinty finish. Sharp, bright, tangy and rich but ends clean and focused with impressive attention to detail and such focused purity on show. 140g/l residual sugar (one of the lowest in the appellation this year). A yield of 14hl/ha on 6ha. Ageing 90% in barrels (1/3 new) and 10% in others. Drink 2027-2047.

Sullivans Cove American Oak is a series of single malt whiskies drawn exclusively from American oak ex-Bourbon barrels. Each cask is aged in Tasmania’s unique climate for a minimum of 10 years, with many exceeding this. Bottled unblended and one cask at a time, each release reflects the distinct influence of its specific barrel. While the ABV varies from cask to cask—typically falling between 47% and 50%—all expressions are non-chill filtered and free from added colour. As one of the foundational expressions in the Sullivans Cove core range, the American Oak Single Cask highlights the purity of distillation and the consistency of house character when matured in a controlled, familiar cask type, offering notes of vanilla, stone fruit and soft oak spice.

    2025 Chateau Malescot Saint-Exupery Pre-Arrival Offer
    Margaux, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $95. 99
    Bottle
    $1151.88 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

This Margaux third growth property has been bought and sold numerous times over its history, but it was after the purchase in 1955 by the Zuger family that the fortunes of the property took a turn for the good. At the time the property was in poor shape, with only 7 hectares under vine. Now the 23.5 hectares vineyard is planted to 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, and is easily delivering at its classified level and often more. Malescot-St.-Exupery should be on the radar for every lover of rich and expressive Cabernet. And perhaps the reason they aren’t as highly collected is that it’s really been just the last few years they’ve elevated their wines to new levels. The consistency of the wines from 2014-2019 is remarkable, and to date the wines have been extremely well priced.

    Other Reviews...
A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, the 2025 Château Malescot St. Exupéry offers up aromas of sweet blackberries, plums, pencil shavings and licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a sun-kissed core of fruit and powdery structuring tannins, it's a dramatic, generous, crowd-pleasing style of Margaux.
    92-94 points
William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Malescot Saint Exupéry is classic Malescot—dark, powerful and quite brooding. Dark-toned fruit, gravel, incense, licorice, tobacco and dried herbs are delineated with serious concentration and pure, unbridled power. This backward, massively tannic Margaux is a wine for readers who can be patient. Drink 2033-2045.
    93-95 points
    Antonio Galloni - Vinous

A very structured red with black currants, blackberries and chocolate aromas. It’s full and flexing, with solid tannins and a long finish. Impressive. Better than 2022?
    95-96 points
    James Suckling

Woody and overly dry from the get go, very tannic and filling with an initial fruitiness that fades quite quickly. Seems they struggled here or it’s just super compact and tight right now as there is some cooling, fresh blueberry juice underneath. A bit potent and highly charged at the moment. Tight and clipped on the finish. Drink 2029-2040.

Offering up notes of ripe cherries and cassis framed by toasty oak, the 2025 Couvent des Jacobins is medium- to full-bodied, rich and dense, with a concentrated core of fruit, plenty of structuring tannin and lively balancing acids. It's another strong performance for this 10.5-hectare Saint-Émilion property.
    92-94 points
William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Couvent des Jacobins is a rich, sumptuous wine. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, cloves, incense and sweet oak are the signatures. This fleshy, explosive Saint-Émilion is quite the extrovert. It's a soloist, not an orchestra, but very delicious just the same. Tasted two times. Drink 2031-2045.
    91-93 points
    Antonio Galloni - Vinous

Fresh and bright, with aromas of sliced oranges, dark berries and cedar that follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and a crisp and bright finish.

    James Suckling

Gorgeous deep and juicy plum and blackberry aromas with subtle spice: a superlative aromatic expression. The best expression I recall from this estate en primeur, hats off for the spice, the velvety tannins, and the balance. A wine that is thirst quenching insofar as you have depth but also lots of tension and energy. Cooler clay soils certainly played a role in the success as did the judicious tannin extractions, with integrated tannins from the 35% new oak. Drink 2029-2045.

One of the superstars of Barsac, the wines are typically noted for their elegance and style rather than weight and richness. At 38.5 hectares in size, Coutet is one of the largest vineyards in the region, with plantings consisting of 75% Semillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle. Fermentation takes place in barrel of which 50% are new with further ageing in oak for 18 months.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 Coutet is a little more backward on the nose than usual, less giving. But there is wonderful purity of fruit, lemon thyme and clementine scents, touches of white flower. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry, playing with Coutet's trademark thread of acidity that emanates from the limestone soils. Quite minerally and spicy on the aftertaste, this is a marvellous Barsac from the Baly family. Drink 2031-2060.

The 2025 Coutet is redolent of burnt sugar, crème brûlée, spice, passion fruit and candied ginger. Always quite rich texturally, Coutet blossoms beautifully on the palate with plenty of textural presence and body. It's a gorgeous wine by any measure. Tasted two times. Drink 2030-2045.

Grilled peach, toasted bread, honey, and mint are just some of the nuances that emerge from the 2025 Château Coutet, a rich, powerful, full-bodied Barsac. On the palate, it has clean, integrated acidity and a great finish. I love its overall balance.

Really fragrant and aromatic peach and pear notes on the nose and palate. Round, sweet, luscious and energetic, this has such a lovely presence in the mouth – ripe, forward, alive and sweet – orange juice, pineapple, mango and peaches. Lovely bitter tang on the finish too. Very assured. Drink 2027-2060.

    2025 Chateau Doisy Daene (375ml) Pre-Arrival Offer
    Barsac, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $46. 99
    Bottle
    $563.88 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Once part of the original Doisy estate founded in 1704, Chateau Doisy Daene takes its name from Jacques Emmanuel Daane, an owner in the late nineteenth century who combined his surname with that of Doisy following the estate's division. After changing hands several times, the property was acquired in 1924 by the Dubourdieu family and gradually rebuilt and expanded to its current 18.2 hectares. The Barsac vineyard, located close to Chateau Climens, is planted predominantly to Semillon with a smaller proportion of Sauvignon Blanc, on red sand, clay and limestone soils. Alongside its Sauternes, the estate is notable for producing one of the appellation's earliest dry white wines, bottled as Doisy Daene Grand Vin Sec, as well as the rare and highly selective l’Extravagance de Doisy Daene in exceptional vintages.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 Doisy-Daëne has an intense nose with plenty of botrytised fruit, wonderful delineation, quite nuanced this year, with quince and light white peach scents intertwined with saffron. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, so pure and quite minerally, yet your senses are just awash with that layered botrytised fruit that lingers in the mouth. What a stunning Barsac. Drink 2032-2070.

The 2025 Doisy-Daëne is aromatic, lifted and sculpted. Green apple, pear, jasmine and crushed rocks are finely delineated in an airy Barsac that has so much to offer. A brilliant, gorgeous Barsac, the 2025 Château Doisy Daëne is based on 88% Sémillon and 12% Sauvignon Blanc that will spend 10 months in barrel followed by nine months in stainless steel before bottling. Honeyed peach, fresh apricot, flowers, and toasted bread nuances all shine on the nose, and it's full-bodied on the palate, with a concentrated, layered mouthfeel, beautifully integrated acidity, and outstanding length. Checking in at 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.95, it's a blockbuster in the making.

Sweet and pure, this has real clarity with a lightly framed core of stone peach fruit and cool baked apple flavours. Lacks a touch of flesh. Boatrocker Ramjet Australian Whisky (500ml)
    Victoria, AUSTRALIA
    $124. 99
    Bottle
    $1499.88 Dozen
    ABV: 45%

A recurring theme in Boatrocker's spirits is that they're good at jamming in maximum flavour. This whisky started as an imperial stout, then was distilled and rested in a Pedro Ximénez cask for five years. Both the nose and palate are a saturate of rich malt and cherry-filled dark chocolate with controlled sherry input, the PX asserting itself at the finish, giving the aftertaste over to gentle tannins and wood spices. The balance is superbly keyed in. A sumptuous whisky you could have on regular rotation and rarely tire of. Even with water, the flavour impact remains remarkable. 45% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the producers... layered and expressive — silky with notes of sherry, dark fruit, and the roasted malts from its stout beginnings. Complex, indulgent, and dangerously easy to drink — a whisky where beer and barrel truly come together.

    $1199.88 Dozen

First aged in virgin American oak, casks used here were then re-seasoned in-house with fresh blood orange peel and Port. No questions about the success of this experiment which sees a deft injection of dry, curacao-like flavours making for what feels like two whiskies in one: Following the initial peel rush, there are more distinct vanilla and cocoa notes, re-grouping as orange spice cake and bittersweet espresso dark chocolate in the finish. A profile that alludes to some Bourbons, yet hardly your typical single malt either. As delicious as it is difficult to categorise. 47.5% Alc./Vol.

Boatrocker Four Grain Australian Whisky (500ml)
    Victoria, AUSTRALIA
    $74. 99
    Bottle
    $899.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Distilled from an American-inspired four grain mash (51% corn and 31% rye, the remainder barley and wheat). Four and a half years in high-char virgin wood reveals a tapestry of genteel, bready sweetness and delicate, understated spicy, rye input, the flavours also conjuring hay bails and water biscuits. There's a subtle rise of sugars at mid palate, with balancing oak providing a chewy backdrop. Arguably more like a premium blended Scotch than a typical Kentuckian, this skilfully composed, middle-weight style is suited to easy drinking or classic cocktails. 40% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the producers... The blend delivers layers of texture, sweetness and spice, enhanced by a unique American yeast strain...it's beautifully smooth.  Expect balanced notes of vanillin and brown sugar, sweetness from the corn, gentle rye spice and a hint of mint on the nose. The finish is long and rounded - perfect neat or in your favourite whiskey cocktail.  Whiskey sour anyone?

    "Seamless" - whiskyadvocate.com

Clearly a different beast to the previous presentation, but just as good. The colour alone will be a major head turner for many - almost as dark as tea, but it’s the way sherry combines with Arran’s superb distillate that makes this one of the real highlights of the new collection. Given enough air contact, the nose develops into a stunning drier-styled sherry hit: fresh from the bag dried apricots, pears in wine, orange zest, Turkish delight and bitter dark chocolate, plus a deft sprinkling of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg complete a beautiful composition that carries through to the palate. Again, dried fruits rally, this time accenting prunes, apricots and fruit mince pie. There's a flash of succulence before the finish turns deliciously bittersweet with citrus peels, fig, light rancio, gingery warmth and late hints of fruit and nut chocolate. Only slightly let down by the length - otherwise a brilliant juxtaposition of flavours. You simply don't find many like this nowadays. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Very limited stocks.

Other reviews... The interplay of floral and sherried notes creates an elegance that other scotches surely envy: candied rose petal, dried orange peel and apricot, sugared almond, raisin, nougat, and dark chocolate on the nose, then candied violet, raisin, date, milk chocolate, dried ginger, candied orange peel, and gingerbread on the palate. The maturity shows in tropical fruit flavors and a deep, probing complexity. It finishes with chocolate, coffee, candied rose petal, and tobacco-laced oak. Seamless.

Arran 10 Year Old Arran Barley Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Isle of Arran, SCOTLAND
    $149. 99
    Bottle
    $1799.88 Dozen
    ABV: 50%

Several distilleries are showing renewed interest in the varieties of barley they use. Arran joins that list with an 18,000-bottle limited edition made from Optic barley grown at Bellevue Farm by the Currie family. The variety has been used for malting in breweries and distilleries since the mid-1990s and is known for its biscuit-like aromas. Maturation is the same as the standard 10 year old (first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill sherry hogsheads), and it's very much in the style we're accustomed to (and love) from this distillery - full and creamy textured - with hints of tea biscuits and light orchard fruits on the nose, the flavours suggesting crisp red apples and light vanilla, bittersweet oak, cocoa and just a little more prickle from the 50% ABV. It's hard to say whether the Optic barley is better. What is evident is the wonderfully rounded way the malt oils-up and coats the tongue in a manner that distinguishes it from most young whiskies. For comparison, it's also similar to several higher-strength Glenfiddichs we've tasted. New batches will be released annually with variations depending on the crop type, cask types and volumes available. Bottled non chill-filtered.

Other reviews... Nose: Some classic Arran notes. No loud cask notes which is nice - gives the distillate more space to shine. Taste: Feels balanced, with a nice, thick structure for a 10yo. I tried this as a starter at a whisky festival and it was absolutely perfect for that purpose. The bottle cost seems reasonable compared to the quality. Finish: The barley stays for a while. There is a Glenfiddich-like shy touch of smoke in the back. - whiskybase.com

Arran Rare Batch 15 Year Old Peated Sherry Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Isle of Arran, SCOTLAND
    $399. 00
    Bottle
    $4788.00 Dozen
    ABV: 54.4%

Distilled from malted barley peated to 20PPM, the whisky spent its full 15 year maturation in a host of oloroso sherry butts sourced from a family run producer in Jerez. It offers a rich, fruity profile laden with sweet peat, citrus, and spice. 4024 bottles. 54.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... When you drink Arran regularly, this whisky will provide you with something really left-field, and that is something to be thankful for. I like seeing distilleries trying stuff and making it work. The peat and the sherry work together well, and even though I do miss some red fruits in the mix, the other elements more than make up for it. Recommended whisky here! - whiskybase.com

Crafted by a prestigious McLaren Vale estate with 170 years of South Australian winemaking history, this Nicks Secret Cabernet carries serious pedigree. Going back 6 generations, the family is considered one of the industry's pioneers.

A sturdily built, richly fruited McLaren Cabernet that delivers serious value for money at just $16.99

Matured for 15 months in new and aged French oak puncheons and hogsheads. Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Expressive blackcurrant and liquorice scents are delivered with impressive intensity trailed by some spicy vanillin cedar, earthy tobacco, dark chocolate and mint notes. Rich, mouth filling blackcurrant, dark chocolate and liquorice fruits are married to earthy black olive, cedary tobacco and spicy mint characters. Firmly structured, a robust tannin framework imparts some gentle grip across the long, sturdy finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
    Alc. 14.5%

    Other Reviews….
The team have not named this wine in honour of some Downton Abbey-like hunt where gentlemen in tweed slaughter the resident population of partridge and quail. Rather, the reason is a little more prosaic. The property is on the corner of Rifle Range and Hunt Roads in McLaren Vale. No doubt the local poultry are very grateful. The wine spent nineteen months maturing in French oak hogsheads, 20% of which were new. Under cork. Black/maroon with a very dark blood red rim, the nose reveals aromas of tobacco leaves, cassis, chocolate, mushrooms, spices, beef stock and blackberries. There are hints of freshly turned earth as well. Excellent oak integration ties everything together and we can see the early signs of complexity emerging. The palate is all about chocolate. The wine is well structured with serious length through to very fine tannins. Absolutely delicious, there is much to love here. It will surely provide immense pleasure for at least twenty years. It would probably pair very nicely with either partridge or quail, if there are any left. Drink 2026-2046.

Saturated, glass-staining purple colour; deep-set black fruit on the nose coupled with tidy oak that's been well handled. The wine is full-bodied and concentrated, the fruit flavour well matched by firm and mouth-coating tannins. This has power and pizzazz, driving very long through a firm, authoritative finish. Smashing cabernet that will age superbly.

Huon Hooke – The Real Review

This is an impressive example of McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2023 vintage. There’s a strong varietal blackcurrant on the nose with a slightly leafy overtone and a little black olive nuance. The palate carries plenty of richness and weight with a chalky thread of tannin and plenty of oak playing a supporting role. It’s balanced and poised, with good flavour intensity that extends effortlessly into a long, focused finish. It’s a pretty smart wine. Drink 2026-2041.

The 2025 Grand Mayne reveals a fresh, expressive bouquet of dark berries, cassis and mulberries, becoming more floral with aeration. Medium- to full-bodied, it’s supple and enveloping, with a velvety texture and a refined, well-defined tannic frame, concluding with a fresh, elegant finish marked by dark berry nuances. This is a more restrained, finely tuned expression than in previous vintages, aligning closely with the estate’s recent stylistic evolution.

The 2025 Grand Mayne is impressive. Dark, layered and vibrant, Grand Mayne has so much to offer. Dark-toned fruit, new leather, licorice, mocha and a kiss of French oak all meld together in the glass. This big, broad-shouldered Saint-Émilion displays very fine balance and tons of character. Tasted two times. Drink 2033-2050.

Solid, well framed and dense. Dark berry and warm spice aromas follow through to a medium body with chewy tannins. Plenty of purple fruit character on the palate, with a chewy finish.

Beautiful aromas on the nose, blackcurrants and dark chocolate. Fleshy and ripe while being so juicy and lifted, great energy and focus here, still touches of oak in the coffee, tobacco and clove elements, but the fruit has purity and this retains a much brighter, more focused expression than in some previous EP samples. Crunchy, crisp, lively yet still carrying that core of power and drive. If anything still a bit bitter on the finish but this will settle. 3.55pH. Ageing 18 months, 40% new barrels. Drink 2029-2045.

Aromas of dark berries, cherries and plums, mingled with subtle hints of licorice and violet, introduce the 2025 Château Mangot, a medium- to full-bodied, layered and velvety wine that's intensely flavored, vibrant and penetrating. Mangot has enjoyed a formidable run in recent years, but the 2025 gives every indication of ranking alongside the 2022 as the estate's best to date. It's a blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Mangot is a soft, open-knit Saint-Émilion. Floral and silky, with gorgeous mid-palate structure, the 2025 is one of the most restrained Saint-Émilions of the vintage. Rose petal, lavender, mint, blood orange and pomegranate are some of the many notes that grace this exquisite red. Tasted two times. Drink 2028-2037.

Beautiful black raspberry, cassis, violets, and graphite all emerge from the 2025 Château Mangot, a gorgeous Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé with a pure, graceful mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a layered, seamless mouthfeel. It's a beautiful wine from this team.

Rose petals, milk chocolate and red cherries, such fragrance on the nose. Silky smooth, juicy and succulent, such immediate joy to be found with this wine. Great intensity of flavour - extremely fruity with crisp raspberries, cherries and blueberries alongside quite clear acidity - a citric touch - with such length. Amazing brilliance, purity and delicate. Tannins give structure and soft support but really blend into the background letting the fruit shine. Gorgeous. Fun, lifted, fresh and juicy. 3.45pH. The 2025 Bastor-Lamontagne has an attractive nose with wild honey, almond and light vanillary scents, well defined and focused. The palate offers ample botrytised fruit, a fine bead of acidity, quite linear for a Sauternes, with commendable tension on the weighty and quite irresistible (already!) finish. This should constitute one of the more approachable Sauternes wines, but the class is already evident. Drink 2031-2050.

The 2025 Bastor-Lamontagne is a very pretty, understated Sauternes. Orange confit, cinnamon, butter, baked apple tart and chamomile are some of the many notes that take shape. Aromas of dust, mushrooms and dried apricots. Full-bodied, sweet and lush, with notable concentration and length, lifted by a touch of salinity and an attractive texture. Long, persistent and dense. 83% semillon and 17% sauvignon, with 160 g/L residual sugar. An intense wine.

A serious, powerful Sauternes, the 2025 Château Bastor-Lamontagne checks in as 83% Sémillon and 17% Sauvignon Blanc that will spend 16 months in barrels, 30% of which are new. Its medium gold hue is followed by a rich, powerful nose of honeyed apricot, grilled peach, mint, and spice. On the palate, it's rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, with an unctuous mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. Hitting 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.8, it's a seriously impressive barrel sample.

Some tropical aromas on the nose. You can really feel the weight and depth on the palate, the extra sugar gives a round lusciousness that sometimes you don’t get here and I love it. Once part of the large Doisy estate founded in 1704, Chateau Doisy-Vedrines was named after one of the early owners of the estate after Doisy was separated into three properties in 1851. Chateau Doisy-Vedrines is now owned by the Casteja family who also own Chateau Trotte Vieille in Saint-Emilion and Chateau Batailley in Pauillac among their portfolio. The vineyard is planted to 80% Semillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle, and along with their grand vin they produce a second wine under the Chateau Petit Vedrines label. Interestingly they choose to label their wines as Sauternes, rather than Barsac as with the two other Doisy properties.

    Other Reviews...
The 2025 Doisy-Védrines was picked between September 17 and October 13 over 11 days and three tries. It does not have the purity and intensity of the Doisy-Daëne, well defined, but it just needs a little more expression at this stage. The palate is bright and viscous on the entry, a little fatter than Daëne as usual, with commendable length on the finish. It is just seeking a bit more complexity at the moment; indeed, a second bottle delivers a little more tension. 140 g/l residual sugar. Drink 2030-2055.

The 2025 Doisy-Védrines is an infant. Orchard fruit, citrus and floral notes are nicely lifted. This shows notable power and textural resonance. I imagine the 2025 will drink well with a few years in bottle, by which time some of the more incisive contours will have softened. That said, this is a Barsac that shows exceptionally well with age. Juicy and lively, this has a real kick to it with the acidity at the fore – tangy lemon and pineapple before slowly creamy, vanilla, apricot and pear come in. The 2025 Guiraud is well defined on the nose, with plenty of botrytised fruit, hints of saffron and apricot blossom, quite nuanced compared with some of its peers. The palate is well balanced, with a tangy, mellifluous entry. Bright acidity counters the richness of this Guiraud, a touch of spice towards the lingering and powerful finish that fans out with style. This is a great Guiraud from winemaker Sandrine Garbay. Drink 2032-2060.

The 2025 Guiraud balances power and energy like very few Sauternes can. Orange confit, passion fruit, crystallized ginger and exotic white flowers fill out the layers. Silky contours are a sign of total finesse. Impeccable. Guiraud is one of the most elegant Sauternes readers will come across. Drink 2033-2065.

A blend of 66% Sémillon and 34% Sauvignon that will spend 18 months in 90% new French oak, the 2025 Château Guiraud has a beautiful medium gold hue as well as a ripe, powerful and sweet perfume of grilled peach, orange marmalade, ginger, and minty flowers. It's rich and full-bodied on the palate, with a concentrated mouthfeel, tons of sweetness nicely balanced by clean acidity, and outstanding length. It checks in at 13.3% alcohol with a pH of 3.83.

Sweet and luscious, a lovely lick of pineapple and mango straight away – ripe, sweet, but also salty the two giving a nice interplay between power and concentration and brightness and energy. Grippy and fun with an approachable element as well as being signature Sauternes from a great vintage. Sweet candied lemons, pineapple chunks and wet stones. Yummy. Drink 2027-2055.

The 2025 Rayne-Vigneau has a backward nose with dried honey, yellow plum and almond scents, perhaps less forward than some of its peers. The palate is well balanced with a very pure entry, bright acids and a gorgeous, tender yet paradoxically powerful finish. Oh yes! Drink 2030-2059.

The 2025 Rayne-Vigneau is a wild, exotic wine. Orange confit, burnt sugar, crème brûlée and candied ginger build in an ample, creamy, rich, luscious Sauternes. This is beautifully done. Extroverted tropical and spice overtones emerge on the close. Drink 2030-2045.

This is rich yet contained, with nothing massive or cloying, but very well put together. Medium- to full-bodied with a subtle savory undertone.

Orange blossom, white peach, and tropical flowers all emerge from the 2025 Château Rayne Vigneau, and it shows the ripe, exotic style of the vintage beautifully. Full-bodied on the palate, it's rich and opulent, with integrated acidity, a big, expansive mouthfeel, and a great finish.

Mirabelle plum, dried apricot and orange blossom on the nose, smells lovely. Crisp and cool, not overly sweet, still a little tight and focused all in one line rather than enveloping the mouth. I like the freshness, it’s a nice counter to the sweetness with salted caramel, pineapple and mango as well as peach and apple too but maybe missing a touch more flesh at this point. Still, it’s super refined with real elegance and detail. Clean and clear, grippy with some honeyed sweetness. I like this a lot. Drink 2027-2048.
