A very popular addition to our Gin shelf last year was Bluecoat, named after the Bluecoat militia that fought the American War of Independence. Botanicals include organic juniper berries, American citrus peels, coriander and angelica root distilled with third-party sourced grain neutral spirit in a copper pot still made in Scotland by Forsyths of Rothes. This latest expression is finished in charred American oak barrels for a minimum of three months providing a unique, well rounded and complex spirit without compromising the latent botanical notes. Beautifully packaged in a cobalt blue bottle, this will be a great gin alternative to classic cocktails such as the Negroni, Martinez and Old Fashioned. 47% Alc./Vol.

This gin goes into the same casks as Cotswolds' flagship Single Malt. These include first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels and shaved, toasted and re-charred red wine casks (STRs). Maturation lasts three months. Following that, fresh Valencian orange peel and candied root ginger are soaked in the gin for several weeks. Finally, a touch of honey is added to sweeten before bottling. Tasting note: A golden coloured gin with aromas of ginger chocolates, root beer, orange zest and lime peel over fresh juniper. On entry traditional gin notes arrive with hints of triple sec and subtle oaky astringency, dovetailing into a delicious spice wave. Ends ginger beer-like with budding warmth. Great purity and definition. Superb Winter gin. 46% Alc./Vol. Notes from the producer... Nose: Warm honey and sweet orange notes balance the fresh spicy ginger and piney juniper. Palate: Incredibly rich and luxurious, the ginger warms everything through, with vanilla and red fruit notes from the casks. Foremost a Calvados producer, Guillaume Drouin has extended his portfolio with a selection of cleverly crafted gins. This one is based on the original "Le Gin" released in 2015. The gin is then aged for around six months in former 10-year-old Calvados casks. Tasting note: [BATCH 2017-A tasted] Pours brilliant bright gold. An aged Gin that references the barrels and blood spilt back in the days of prohibition. This project has been quietly maturing since co-founders Adam Carpenter and Wes Heddles opened at the company’s Gilbert St distillery. They had x Bourbon barrels that had recently being emptied of Barossa Shiraz, re-coopered into a smaller format then re-charred to restore their toasty character. The resulting gin is a big, bold, barrel strength style retaining a gentle shiraz note along with a rich oaked rye back note. Following the trade launch, Carpenter commented, "everyone loved the flavour, the complexity and how different it is to anything else out there, it’s not like any other shiraz gin as there’s no fruit contact, but it’s not your average barrel aged either.” Recommended with soda, in a classic Negroni, gin Old Fashioned or Boulevardier. 60% Alc./Vol.
