Produced only through the summer with all the strawberries used grown locally in Wexford by the Kearns family. No additional sweeteners are added. Recommended in a G&T with a slice of strawberry and a crack of black pepper. Tasting note: The largest botanical component in this gin are the berries which also contribute a subtle pink blush. Medium dry aromas hint at strawberry milk or berry tart, the juniper just peeking through. Some orris root perhaps, then sweeter floral notes. Chamomile? Light to medium bodied and nicely textured with delicately expressed botanicals and a flourish of spice through the finish. Trace strawberry repeats in the aftertaste. A Summer style gin that strikes a good balance between fruit and traditional notes. 40% Alc./Vol.

Cadenhead's take their legendary high-strength London Dry on a sensationally smokey trajectory with this whisky cask matured gin. Mellowed in x Caol Ila casks for 299 days, saffron is added prior to bottling. Extremely limited stocks. Tasting note: Pale straw gold. Caol Ila leaves its stamp on the nose: smoked fish, a touch of dill, citrus and light vanillas while gin adds freshness. The herbal / briney / smokey attack replete with piney juniper and tangy citrus is a stroke of genius. Wow! Peated aquavit comes to mind. An absolute treat. 55% Alc./Vol. 342 bottles produced.

Another Old Raj gin with a twist - this time it's been finished in x-Caribbean rum casks for 299 days with a dash of saffron added before bottling. Gin completionists should put this on their short list, along with Cadenhead's amazing whisky cask matured release. Very limited stocks. Tasting note: Bright gold. Aromatically more rum than gin: Sweet yet fresh with the botanicals retained. Flavour wise, akin to an 'extra aged' cask matured style. Rum sugars vie with the gin's vibrancy, evoking the most delicious cough lozenge imaginable (citrus flavoured Fisherman's Friend?). Unique. Wonderfully innovative stuff. 55% Alc./Vol. 300 bottles produced.

Produced by Pierre Ferrand (the cognac house that owns Plantation rum), this is a variation of Citadelle Reserve (based on 22 different botanicals), sweetened using brown sugar from the Caribbean. Beautifully presented with the inevitable Tom Cat included on the label. Very small allocation for Australia. Tasting note: Pale gold. Nicely integrated herbal-juniper freshness over underlying notes of vanilla, lemon cough lozenge and pepper. Follows through with an oily, semi-sweet profile including flavours of cough lozenge, lemon iced tea, candied pineapple and a warming, delicate peppermint / juniper finish. Concludes more like a London dry. Complex and beautifully textured. 46% Alc./Vol. 6500 bottles produced.

Tasting note: Intense yellow-gold with thick legs. Offers unusual hints of crushed ant and orange cordial in the opening sniff. Second pass finds juniper/menthol freshness infused with hints of lemon thyme and saffron. Feather-light, supple, rounded mouthfeel with delicate cumin / turmeric / saffron-like flavours over refreshing background juniper. Restrained vanilla sweetness enters at the finish. Closes with faint saffron, bitter peel and ginger-like warmth in the aftertaste. Understated yet engaging. Enjoy this as it is. 47% Alc./Vol.

A gin infused with juniper berries, angelica, coriander and aged on oak chips in old beer casks. Tasting note: Brilliant gold. Low key aromas of fresh-sawn American oak, balsa wood and light vanilla. Better integrated on the palate with the sweet oak notes enhanced by hints of coriander and piney-juniper. Ends mildly astringent, medium fresh, delicately herbal. 42% Alc./Vol.

A gin barrel-aged for three months in x-Cognac casks and produced in collaboration with an organic Co-op of farmers in Central Asia. The organic juniper berries are sourced from a nature reserve in Central Asia while the fair-trade spices are grown in the Kerala region of South West India. Tasting note: [tasted from a near empty bottle] Clear with a pale straw blush. Attractive and unusual aromas of lemon grass, ginger root, delicate caraway and balsa wood with light piney juniper adding freshness. A velvety entry leads into a relaxed, middle weighted profile with flavours of green juniper, clove, lemon verbena, muted caraway and vibrant spices. Excellent balance. Different and slightly daring without compromising the juniper keynote. 42% Alc./Vol.

Paul Hletko, who launched 'Few Spirits' in 2011 is a man in pursuit of flavour. Hence, his new micro distillery is perhaps best defined by what it doesn't make - vodka.
Apart from whiskey, three different gins are now being made using a base of corn, wheat, and non-malted barley (the base spirit is actually his new make whiskey), while some of the 11 botanicals used include juniper, citrus (lemon and orange peel), Tahitian vanilla, cassia, grains-of-paradise and homegrown hops.
Wait a minute! Hops in the gin?
It turns out that Hletko’s been home brewing for 20 years and was inspired by New Holland’s 'Hopquila' (a sort of whiskey-tequila hybrid spirit with pronounced hops character). This is his barrel aged expression.
Tasting note: Flawless bright gold appearance. Opens with juniper mixed with peppermint infused honey. Short aeration accentuates pine sap and muted white pepper notes. Cough lozenge-like but in the most attractive sense. Medium dry, with firm but controlled spices; shows solid concentration. The wood influence has been judged to perfection as the freshness of the juniper and pepper is never lost. Fisherman’s Friend flourishes on the finale. Excellent persistence. A first rate winter styled gin to enjoy on its own. 46.5% Alc./Vol.Other reviews... Bright pale amber color. Aromas of pickling spice, acacia honey, spicy roasted apples and pears, and pineapple bread with a supple, fruity-yet-dry medium-to-full body and a long, interplay of spices, herbs, pine, dried fruits, and flowers. Beautiful and delicious bourbon notes. A whisky lover's gin for sipping or cocktails. 46.5% Alc./Vol.

Produced by the Chicago Distilling Company (founded in 2010), Finn's gin is made from a corn based neutral spirit which they buy in to macerate botanicals such as Sichuan peppercorn, dried orange peel, green cardamom, hibiscus, juniper, coriander, cassia and cubeb. Following maceration, Finn's is re-distilled to recover the clear gin spirit. The barrel aged version sees the gin finished in a combination of virgin & ex bourbon casks for a 1-3 month period. Tasting note: The deep brassy gold colour is bright and clear. Slightly subdued but with pleasing scents of pencil shavings and saw dust alongside subtle notes of apple sauce, cinnamon, lemon meringue and woody juniper. Silky, medium bodied delivery offering delicious flavours of apple strudel, cinnamon and ripe juniper followed by a delicate pine and menthol lozenge finish. Excellent length. Beautifully balanced wood aged gin with the barrel input deftly handled. 45% Alc./Vol. Gold Medal 2015 American Craft Spirits.

Tasting note: Pale brass-gold colour is reminiscent of young Chardonnay. Nosing finds a delightful harmony of citrus, coriander, woody juniper and pine needle underscored by subtle sweetness. Follows through with vivacious, full bodied flavours of juniper, pepper and lemon cough lozenge, ending piney, fresh and well balanced with hints of cardamom and citrus zest in the aftertaste. The pick of the bunch from this distillery. 49% Alc./Vol.
