    Hendrick's Another Gin (700ml)
    SCOTLAND
    $84. 99
    Bottle
    $1019.88 Dozen
    ABV: 41.4%

Another Hendrick’s Gin is a new permanent expression from Master Distiller Lesley Gracie, featuring the signature rose and cucumber base enhanced by bright orange blossom and rich, velvety cacao. Housed in a distinctive white bottle at  ABV, it offers a "different side" to the original, with notes of bright citrus and smooth, indulgent cacao. Recommended with premium tonic or in an elderflower & soda mix, garnished with an orange twist. 41.4% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Another Hendrick’s, like all of the brand’s variants, starts out as original Hendrick’s, meaning that rose and cucumber are featured prominently among a total of 11 other botanicals that include coriander, elderflower, and, of course, juniper. The gin is distilled on two different types of stills—Bennett and Carter-Head—allowing Gracie to produce unique distillates made by either steeping or steaming the dried botanicals, with the essence of rose and cucumber added at the end. For Another Hendrick’s, she created an extract of cacao beans and used the essential oils from the orange blossoms, both of which were infused into the spirit. The result is a gin that is still very much identifiable as Hendrick’s (although the bottle is white instead of the traditional black glass the brand uses), but it has a prominent burst of subtle orange and chocolate flavors, making this a great cocktail option that is also worth tasting on its own. - robbreport.com

...A fair critique might be, as many of the other recent Hendrick’s releases, that it’s too contemporary. Another Hendrick’s pushes the boundaries of the category— but it doesn’t forget its roots. There’s a ton of juniper here so gin fans will know for sure, it is a gin. - theginisin.com

"As a sherry lover, this SV is a perfect one for me." - whiskybase.com

Bold and richly sherried malts are just what the doctor ordered for the Winter months ahead. Few Speysiders do them as well as Glenrothes. While it's been appreciated for years by enthusiasts, it's generally played second (or third) fiddle in the Edrington portfolio. Attention remains directed towards their crown jewels - Macallan and Highland Park. Recently, Edrington has decided to 'premiumise' Glenrothes, only offering older age statements (18 years old and up), so expect affordable expressions like this to become increasingly rare. The distillery keynote has been compared to 'fresh oranges', and Glenrothes' affinity with sherry casks is famous. Just how well its character holds up to Andrew Symington's typically heavy-handed preference for first-fill oloroso butts will be for the lucky few to find out. This whisky will likely show its best after 10-15 minutes breathing and continue to build once opened. Notes suggest a dense and spicy dram including dark fruits, pecans and butterscotch, honeycomb, barley and orchard fruit. 57.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... As a sherry lover, this SV is a perfect one for me. SV is always promising but this is even better. A very good and competent sherry matured whisky. More of a cask driven whisky with the sherry, spicy, oaky and leather nose and tastes being more to the front... Thick, oily, lovely. ABV is high but the control on alcohol is good. The feeling of alcohol is just right that wouldn’t make u feel uncomfortable while teasing your taste buds. The sherry is sweet but not too sweet, it’s right on spot to level out the alcohol. Perfect! - whiskybase.com

QuiQuiRiQui Destilado con Mole Mezcal (700ml)
    Oaxaca, MEXICO
    $159. 99
    Bottle
    $1919.88 Dozen
    ABV: 47%

Mezcal de pechuga (pechuga translates to ‘breast’ in Spanish) is made when a finished mezcal is redistilled with local fruits, grains and nuts, and a raw piece of protein (typically a chicken) is hung over the still, cooking in the emanating vapors. Traditionally, this is a style of mezcal produced for special occasions and consumed locally—there are as many different versions as there are distilleries. QQRQ’s stunning, vegetarian-friendly recipe trades the poultry for a homemade mole paste. This paste is made to a traditional recipe by the Méndez family in Santiago Matatlán and includes chile Guajillo, chile Ancho, sesame seeds, almonds, peanuts, garlic, onion, raisins, bananas and cacao. It’s thought to be the first commercial release of its kind.

Carlos Méndez uses the QQRQ Espadin agave as the base. Following the second distillation, the mole paste is added and the spirit is rested to infuse for two weeks before a final, third distillation. 47% Alc./Vol.

Talisker 10 Year Old Gift Pack with Glass Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Isle of Skye, SCOTLAND
    $109. 99
    Bottle
    $1319.88 Dozen
    ABV: 45.8%

Comes with a bonus branded Talisker tumbler.

'The lava of the Cuillins' - that's how Talisker, the Golden Spirit of Skye was described by one poetic taster: the only single malt from a spectacularly beautiful island of wild moorlands and dramatic mountain peaks known as the Cuillins. Built in Carbost in 1831 near 'Talisker House', the distillery has entertained such personalities as Boswell & Johnson. Another celebrity who enjoyed his Talisker was author, Robert Louis Stevenson, describing it in 1880 as 'king 'o' drinks'. Stevenson rightly recognised it as bearing similarities to both the Glenlivet and Islay malts. However, by taking 'the best of both worlds' so to speak, it achieved a unique style. In 1892 Roderick Kemp, a part owner sold his share to establish the now-immortal Macallan. Talisker has continued strong since under the ownership of Diageo. An individual malt that remains an island classic, Talisker invariably offers a great sniff. At ten years old, the aromas are pungent-yet-fresh with Islay-like seaweedy smokiness and sweet fruity malt. There's a bold maritime influence on the palate too, perfectly complemented by a spicy, very peppery lingering finish. A little honey threads its way through the beautifully balanced spirit. Not harsh but warming. Always satisfying to re-discover this West Highland gem. 45.8% Alc./Vol.

A quite stupendous malt to be enjoyed at any time. But especially at night. - 93 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2019

...Another that should need no introduction. The thing to look for in Talisker, as with all smoky whiskies, is sweetness that gives the requisite balance to the drying effect of smoke. Underneath Talisker’s smoke, which ain't as all-pervading as Lagavulin, is a sweet pear-like quality. When young there are notes of the land: heather, moor, sweet seaweed, and a finish that has a distinctive cracked black pepper hit. 90 points - whiskyadvocate.com, reviewed by: Dave Broom (Summer 2012)

Nose: A razor-sharp spiciness lances through Demerara sweetness and rich peat. Absolutely magnificent. Palate: The enormous build up of spice adds to the multi-layered peat. The sweetness is almost like freshly crushed grist. Wave upon wave, layer upon layer of complexity. Finish: Massively warming and still spicy. The peat lingers while the spice bristles. Comment: A dram to be savoured and celebrated. Rating: 95  - www.whiskymag.com

Pinhook 5 Year Old Single Barrel Cask Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml) - Whiskey Hunt Australia Selection
    Kentucky, UNITED STATES
    $169. 99
    Bottle
    $2039.88 Dozen
    ABV: 57.5%

"Pinhook" is an old term for buying young horses and seeing them through to racing maturity. The whiskey project bearing the same name was founded in 2011, originally sourcing liquid from MGP in Indiana to mature in Kentucky. Pinhook has since moved onto distilling their own whiskeys at the once abandoned and now restored Old Taylor Distillery. To find this cask, Whiskey Hunt Australia visited one of the longest rickhouses in the country (163m, holding up to 35,000 barrels). It's a 5-year-old, described as a "bright style, without the heavy-handed oak or sweetness you sometimes see at this age". It's also the first ever Pinhook Australian exclusive. Not quite your 'classic' Kentucky profile (which would be heavier on vanilla and caramel), rather, the palate falls on the drier side, the initial pass offering muted notes of dry orange zest, light peachy fruitiness and a little cherry chocolate. Delicate oils go some way to amplifying the mouthfeel, with subtle restraining tannins and a kick of wood spice sealing the elegant finish. The length and balance improve after extended air contact. Tasted blind, without water, you might mistake it for a young, burgeoning, bourbon-casked single malt. 210 bottles from barrel #3174 have been imported at a natural strength of 57.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the importers... Nose: Orange zest, leather, oak, cloves. Palate: Fresh oak, jaffa cake, cooked cloves on the front, fresh cloves on the back. Finish: Long, coating, and dangerously easy to go back to. Summary: Incredibly well balanced with surprisingly little heat for the ABV. This is cask strength bourbon you can actually sit on.

Intensely flavoured, energetic and bursting with succulence, this is a sublime example of Heathcote Grenache.

The 2025 vintage is considered outstanding for Heathcote ranked alongside other great years such as 2010, 2015 & 2022 all characterised by consistently warm weather without hot days.
Dark red core with black tinged edges and a red to dark red hue. Fragrant red to dark raspberry, liquorice and ripe cherry scents flow out of the glass with splendid intensity. Fresh herb, delicate scorched earth and pepper notes ensue. Rich, intensely flavoured and super juicy yet relatively light on its feet, the mid weighted palate is swamped with dark raspberry, red liquorice and cherry fruits. Vanillin spice, subtle earth and pepper elements lurk underneath. Boasting magnificent power, it has polished yet structured tannins which impart a subtle muscularity to the mouth feel. Deanston Orange Wine Cask Finish 17 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $199. 99
    Bottle
    $2399.88 Dozen
    ABV: 53.6%

An intriguing experiment that saw a final three years in Vino de Naranja Orange fortified wine casks from Spain. This must have been one feisty spirit when it went into barrel. For a 17 year old, even at high strength, you'd expect more composure. The nose opens with semi-ripe apricots, dilute honey and a warm gingery feel. On the palate, ginger snaps, peel-heavy marmalade, honey and spice evoke a contemporary oloroso sherry-like character. Orange cake and warming oak linger in a bittersweet finish. The balance improves after ample air contact, however taming the attack with water will be essential for many. 7000 bottles are on offer globally. Sold out at the distillery website. 53.6% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.

Other reviews... A very good whisky that has won me over. Whether I would ultimately need a whole bottle of it is another matter... Initially, it has a very robust character, and the alcohol is quite noticeable. For a 17-year-old whisky, that's rather surprising in my opinion. On the fruity side, I primarily detect overripe tangerines. With water, the alcohol note noticeably diminishes, and woody notes become more prominent. At the same time, the fruitiness decreases somewhat. Thus, the whisky both gains and loses something with water. The orange flavor is most pronounced in the finish. In addition, pleasant, full-milk aromas emerge in the medium to long finish. - whiskybase.com

Bottled under Diam, this wine is a wonderful example of just how far quality winemaking has come in recent decades. A while back, a Côtes-du-Rhône Villages would have been little more than a cheap quaffer. These days, there are some seriously good, enjoyable and attractive wines emerging from the appellation. A vibrant crimson/red hue, the colour is a bit reminiscent of a good, near-raw steak. The nose reveals notes of florals, cranberries, bay leaves, warm earth, dried herbs and coffee beans. The wine is of medium length, finishing with fine tannins. The team attribute notes of violets to the Syrah and red fruits to the Grenache. Youthful and with good focus, it lingers pleasantly and should provide attractive drinking over the next six to seven years. Drink 2025-2032.

    Kentucky, UNITED STATES

    $3960.00 Dozen
    ABV: 63.9%

Since Australia experienced price hikes in Buffalo Trace's Antique Collection, 'Stagg' (formerly known as Stagg Junior) is now generally considered the best buy in the distillery's portfolio. This batch has been talked up as a "return to form" according to some bloggers - whatever that means - as variation between batches is usually not that significant. Stagg 19 22B was the first edition with the new batch numbering system, where the batch details are displayed next to the proof on the label (e.g.- 22B = the second release of 2022). Hence, we can tell at a glance that this is the second release of 2024 (yes, it takes that long for these to get to Australia!) Rumoured to be matured for nearly a decade and bottled at 63.9% ABV with zero filtration, whichever batch you're lucky enough to secure, keep in mind that these high-octane Bourbons usually need taming with water, or at a minimum, we suggest letting your Stagg breathe in the glass to let it unravel and better appreciate its flavours.

Other reviews... "The sweetness, dryness, and tannins are intricately weaved together, adding complexity, depth, balance, and an overall fabulous sipping experience. This, along with batch B22, is one of my favorite recent Stagg Jr’s." - Bourbon, Whiskey & Rye

Notes from the producers... Nose: Cherry, fig, baked apples, sweet oak and leather. Taste: Cherry, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, hint of cocoa and black pepper. Finish: Long, sweet with mild spiciness.

    Boatrocker Spiced Rum (700ml)
    Victoria, AUSTRALIA
    $99. 99
    Bottle
    $1199.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Boatrocker has approached the spiced category with fresh eyes and a new world palate. After over three years in oak, one in French and two in ex-bourbon barrels, a variety of botanicals were macerated in the spirit, including mountain pepperberry, Peruvian coffee beans, smoked applewood & South American tonka beans to produce a unique and cinnamon-free updated take on the classic spiced rum. The bouquet pops with rum-soaked fruits, cocoa, lamingtons and light vanilla. The palate packs depth for a 40% spirit, laced with soft, plump, rum soaked cherry fruit cake, coconut rum balls and late hints of vanilla and Amaretto. It's smooth and creamy, sweet, but hardly overblown, and with a gingery warmth that will please traditionalists. Great new spiced rum. 40% Alc./Vol.

    $3240.00 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

There are several expressions of Angostura No.1 in a series, each subject to a different wood regime and identified by 'editions'. This is the second, and comes aged in two types of used oak, initially x-Bourbon oak for ten years followed by six years in French oak, the latter reportedly held cognac. As such, it is the first-ever Angostura rum to be finished in French oak. The profile extends through nuts, dried fruits (dates, figs) and subtle floral notes. 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... This special Angostura gift is a standout in every sense. I have tried and own most of the limited run Angostura rums but this is the stand out. The initial sip opens with a gentle, natural sweetness that is rich without being heavy, setting the tone for a beautifully balanced drink. Its smooth, polished character carries through the palate effortlessly, finishing clean and refined with no harsh edges. It’s my favourite go-to rum over a few cubes, consistently satisfying yet quietly exceptional. - rumratings.com

A great St. Henri and, although multi-regional, this is very much a wine that speaks of the Barossa Valley, with aromas of ripe blackberries and red plums that are so fresh, together with tobacco, young-leather, earth, chocolate, coal-smoke and tarry accents. Effortless depth on the palate with summer berries, framed in fine, alabaster-like tannins that are underscored with discreet power. So long and captivating. This can only ever be a stylistic expression of the shiraz variety, as sourcing from six SA districts eliminates regionality. (For the record, The Peninsulas is a defined GI region, this fruit coming from the outskirts of Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula). The wine’s point of difference within the Penfolds range is that it has no new oak maturation and spends only 12 months in large format seasoned vats. The result is a sophisticated, dark, almost mysterious shiraz, a wine with secrets within that one suspects will reveal great joys over the next 20 to 30 years, as its forebears have proved for more than half a century. For now, in and around the black fruits there are flint, mushroom, licorice and roast meat notes. Plenty to unpack. A serious SA shiraz that remains a really enticing proposition.

    Tony Love – WinePilot.com

The St Henri Shiraz is often one of my favorite reds in the Penfolds Collection, due to the ability of the fruit to shine through the fine sheath of oak that encases it. At this stage, and I know you will hear this often, the wine still represents good value. The 2019 St Henri Shiraz is elegantly structured, with the 2019 vintage showing the warmth and intensity without overstepping balance or line. Texturally, this will only increase in its silky shape, which comes with the gentle suggestion to decant this if you insist on drinking it within five years from harvest (i.e., anytime from now to 2024). This 2019 is shaped by abundant red and purple fruit (and a splash of blue), charry spice and fine tannins. Gorgeous. Drink 2022-2042.

A refined, mid weighted Cabernets lined with a chorus of red fruit.

A blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 10% Malbec. Impenetrable pitch black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Elevated red to dark currant, violet and ripe mulberry scents are dished up by the nose followed by some vanillin cedar, subtle earthy tobacco and fresh bay leaf notes. Mid weighted the palate is lined with a chorus of red currant and mulberry fruits which are quite juicy in their feel. Fresh underlying acidity and grainy, structured tannins lend tension. Spicy cedar, dusty earth, subtle tobacco and infusions of bay leaf the undercard. Finishes long and refined.
Drink over the next 8-10 years.

The final blend ended up 80% cabernet sauvignon (from the Sheoak vineyard), 12% malbec and 8% merlot sourced from two other vineyards; it’s a good combo, plus brilliantly priced so it’s affordable. A dark red hue. Laden with excellent ripe fruit all spiced up with fennel, tobacco, cedary oak and some toasted nori. The palate is fuller-bodied, expanded by plentiful cocoa tannins. While very good today with food, this will garner more complexity in time. Drink by 2040.

From the Sheoak vineyard in Yallingup and apparently picked on the same date as the 2023, which is interesting given the hot dry vintage. 25% new oak here. I tasted this about a month ago, and again now, so I’ve probably got a handle on it. Also, the bottle is way too heavy, although I get that plenty of love has gone on to the bottle.
Blueberry and black fruit, ground spice, shag tobacco, violet, chocolate and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, kind of rustic in its presentation of tannin, though they feel deep and nutritious in a way, and vaguely Italianate, with a sort of Sagrantino thickness. It’s also fresh and quite juicy, a Marasca cherry sourness, blackcurrant, again lots of tannin and chew with an earthy thunder closing out a finish of excellent length. It’s a toss up between 94+ and 95 points, but you know, there’s a certain charismatic charm here that gets me over the line. Drink 2027-2038+

Another delicious looking malt from Cooper's Choice new 'Golden Cut' collection that is reported to be "...perfectly balanced at its age". The outturn was 396 bottles after a finishing spell in a Marsala fortified wine cask. 50% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... The fact is that we know Marsala can work just as well as sherry, it is simply a matter of knowing which type of Marsala was involved. Colour: deep gold. Nose: oh lovely! Mirabelles and apricots, both tinned and in jam form, coated in caramel and honey and followed by a few very juicy sultanas. With water: finger biscuits and little sponge cakes filled with orange and mandarin jam (Marsala, Sicily, get it?) Mouth (neat): very good, on walnut cake and bitter orange, preserved lemon, earthy vegetal notes… With water: we could almost believe we are in Marsala, right at the far western tip of the southern coast. A wonderful place, I warmly recommend it. Finish: long, fresh, with a slightly tangy edge that perfectly balances the whole. Comments: excellent and therefore perfectly balanced, at this age and with this treatment. 86 points - whiskyfun.com
