2012 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Rose
    Champagne, AUSTRALIA
    $599. 00
    Bottle
    $7188.00 Dozen
    ABV: 12.5%
    Closure: Cork

In 1818, Madame Clicquot made the first-ever "rosé d'assemblage" champagne by mixing some of her red Bouzy wines with white ones. La Grande Dame Rosé honors her idea by using 90% Pinot Noir from the historical Grands Crus of Aÿ, Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay, and Bouzy, enriched by 10% Chardonnay from Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. This base is then blended with 13% Pinot Noir red wine exclusively from the 'Clos Colin' parcel, situated in Bouzy. Aged on lees for 10 years in bottle before being disgorged and topped with a dosage of 8g/L.

    Other Reviews....
The 2012 Brut Rosé La Grande Dame is the finest wine I've tasted from Veuve Clicquot in several decades. Offering up aromas of red berries, bee pollen, orange zest and freshly baked bread, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and precise, with a deep core of fruit and a vibrant, tightly coiled profile, concluding with a penetrating, sapid finish. This isn't the muscular, powerful Clicquot style of yesteryear, but it's a compelling effort in a fine-boned, more polished register. Drink 2023 - 2038.

William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The new 2012 vintage of Veuve Clicquot's top rosé sweeps in full of dynamics and detail, the 13% proportion of red wine bringing a succulent red apple, rose and poached strawberry fragrance to 2012's finessed, narrowing build. There's an intriguing smoky/reductive streak at present too, setting off the fruit-forwardness and creamy undercurrent with a touch of drama and energy. This has the volume and immediacy to enjoy now, but even more impressive is the precision and build of a truly cellar-worthy rosé. 92% Pinot Noir from Äy, Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay and Bouzy (13% as red wine from Bouzy), 8% Chardonnay from Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Dosage 8 g/L. Drink 2023 - 2040.

Maturity gives the wine toastiness while retaining the background of fine fruits and texture. It is an impressive Champagne, as always: rich while also balanced, with a touch of minerality. Drink the wine now.

Believed to have given its name by the Romans as they found its distinctive aroma akin to that of musk, and hence called it Moscato. Made from a blend of grapes from the Muscat family, this variety is enjoyed for its fresh grapey flavours and lively acidity. Packed with crisp, grapey flavour, lush ripe fruit and tingly bubbles or ‘frizzante’ this wine is fresh and lively and oozes universal appeal.

2006 Andre Clouet Dream Vintage Brut Champagne

When it comes to Pinot Noir in Champagne, the grand cru villages of Bouzy and Ambonnay rank amongst the greatest in the region. And one of the most talented exponents from here is the Clouet family based in Bouzy. Champagne Andre Clouet have been producing Champagne for over two centuries, and under the guidance of Jean Francois Clouet the wines have never looked better. While his wines are exuberant and concentrated, Jean Francois manages to counter this with immaculate finesse and detail on the palate.

Dream Vintage by Andre Clouet is dedicated to the grand vintages of Champagne. In contrast to their other wines, Dream Vintage is 100% grand cru Chardonnay from their vineyards in Bouzy. Label inspiration comes from the striking colours of Cadillac cars from the 1950's.

    Other Reviews....
The 2006 Brut Dream Vintage is powerful and a touch austere, but pleasantly so, as there is good energy and enough depth to support at least a handful of years of fine drinking once the wine relaxes a bit. This deceptively medium-bodied wine has quite a bit of punch. Drink 2018 - 2026

    Antonio Galloni's Vinous

A rich and almost opulent champagne for lovers of mature chardonnay. As much melted butter as candied-lemon and orange character. Glides over the palate into the very silky finish, the touch of salinity creating a wonderful tension with the creaminess. 100% chardonnay. Drink or hold.

Trophy winner at the Tasmanian Wine Show '17, two-thirds pinot noir, and spent 7 years on yeast lees. Like all Arras wines, it has an extra level of textural and flavour complexity derived partly from the fruit, partly from extended time on lees, balanced by tangy acidity. Drink by 2026.

A top Australian sparkling that possesses wonderful freshness and complexity.

A blend of 67% Chardonnay and 33% Pinot Noir that has been aged for 7 years. Pours with a white frothy mousse that dissipates to reveal a pale straw, pale gold edged base wine that has a steady stream of very fine bubbles that show excellent persistence. The nose shows excellent intensity and is very Champagne like in its complexity. Aromas of toasty brioche and yeast lees climb their way out of the glass with some biscuity citrus, roasted almond characters also present. The palates very precise and focused opening is offset by a moderate creaminess with flavours of pear, citrus and subtle dried honey overlaid by a distinctive toasty roasted almond character. There’s also baked bread and yeast lees nuances evident. Clean crisp acidity with a very dry finish. Long aftertaste of toast, roasted almonds, citrus, yeast lees and very subtle dried honey. Other reviews... [tasted 2016] True to the character of Coonawarra cabernet, this is a cuvee that sings with all the complexity of deep reserves, a blend from '14 back to '95. Black- and redcurrant fruit meets dark chocolate and notes of red capsicum on a long and bright finish. Firm, fine tannins are well handled and promise a long future. A standout in the sparkling cabernet stakes.

First tasted August 2007 This wine should impress, but fails to do so – the base wine has been blended from 8 vintages of Reserve wines and kept on lees for 5 months. The wine starts badly, there is virtually no mousse and very little bead – in fact it could barely be described as being spritzig. Deep crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Hints of chocolate and spice on the nose, with a slight effervescent sensation on the palate. Dry tannins overwhelm the fruit component. Aftertaste of plum and stewed fruit.

The dosage liqueur contains a small quantity of very old Best’s Liqueur Muscat.

Sparkling Shiraz at Christmas is an Australian tradition and few producers do it as well as Best’s

A frothy purple tinged mousse sits atop an inky black dark red coloured base that has a very fine bead running through it. Intense ripe blackberry and liquorice aromas are tempered by hints of dark chocolate and vanillin oak with earth and hints of spice also present. A rich mouthful of fluffy, concentrated dark fruits flood the creamy like textured mid palate. Ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate flavours sit over vanillin oak, earth and spice nuances. Finishes dry with a burst of blueberry freshness on the very long aftertaste that’s layered with luscious dark fruit. Limited stocks – this normally sells out prior to Christmas.

Machine harvested fruit was gently pressed. Only the-free run juice was used, then cold settled and fermented with inoculated yeast. Prosecco sparkles here in pale lemon hue, chalky lemon, apple, nashi pear and, unusually, quite lifted aromatics. Good strong bubble and lemony goodness to follow with a touch of spice. Plenty to like.

Frisky, light and fresh. Grapey for the most part and, importantly, not too sweet. Cider apples and yeast. More complexity than its lightness would suggest. Some grip too. Good. It works.

If you are looking for a quiet storm of a Tasmanian sparkling, Bream Creek, east of Hobart, will fill that desire. A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the Cuvée Traditionelle typically spends at least 5 years on lees before disgorging and will continue to age in bottle for several years from its release and the 2014 does not deviate from the quality I have come to expect from them.
A rich and buttery brioche, honeycomb, lemon curd, peach blossom and vanilla yoghurt on the nose, the freshness of youth is evident amongst the autolytic characteristics but on the palate, its youth is truly revealed. Crisp green apples, oyster shells, white nectarines, fresh lemon zest all find their way to the front with those toasty notes taking a back seat. Pure elegance with a clean and lean lingering finish, this is a stylish sparkling wine to either drink now or cellar for up to a decade. Drink 2020-2030.

80/20% Victoria/Tumbarumba. Super clean, fruit-driven sparkling with subtle creamy yeast overtones that can't put a foot wrong. The producer is one assured sparkling maker who knows what drinkers want. Dusty cherry, pomegranate. The bead is strong, acidity cuts through well and the strawberry crush flavour is just so tasty.

A showcase of the lifted floral aromatics that Muscat produces, rosewater and musk complimented with citrus blossom and freshly crushed grapes. The palate is true to the bouquet with rich strawberry, musk and Turkish delight characters all prominent. Gentle natural spritz adds texture to the mid palate, before finishing with a burst of citrus fruit, ripe lime, mandarin and crisp clean acidity.

Made from Aglianico grapes. A well portioned mousse holds well over a salmon pink coloured base that has a spritely stream of tiny bubbles flowing through it. Engaging raspberry and pommegrante aromas mix with blood orange and leesy orange rind like notes. Light and airy but also very zesty across the palate, blood orange, tangerine and ruby grapefruit flavours have a fruit tingle like feel. Fruit from the Strathbogie Ranges and King Valley. Not shown on the new, bold labels that the wine was disgorged in June ’21, the only label claim is traditional method. The fine mousse is very active in the mouth, and the dosage has been kept to a low level ex the long time the wine was on tirage.
