2007 Single Cask Nation Glen Elgin 17 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $230. 00
    Bottle
    $2760.00 Dozen
    ABV: 57.5%

Finished for five years in a first-fill Spanish oak hogshead. Shy on the nose, sawdust and carpenter's workshop holding back the honey and fruits; needs time to open up, breaking through on the palate with dense spiced orange cake amid a flurry of spices and honey. Juices up with minimal water but struggles to achieve a near-perfect balance, the spice and heat not easily deterred. 230 bottles. 57.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 25ml sample.

Other reviews... We believe that Glen Elgin should retain its place among the great historic malts, rather than sinking to the depths of the latest loch. In our view and perhaps in an ideal world, it's the best malts that should rise to the top — and that has absolutely nothing to do with marketing budgets or tequila finishes. And let’s not even mention the ubiquitous mizunara.... Colour: full gold. Nose: here come the roasted peanuts, charred wood, malt and walnut liqueur. This is much more classic than the previous ones, and we’re rather delighted by that. With water: quality grey pepper and a few old papers. We do love the scent of old papers. Mouth (neat): almost an onslaught of spices and citrus—green pepper, zest, bitter orange and clove. Classic and modern at the same time, so that’s spot on. With water: it improves further still, on orange, coriander and shochu. White pepper and yellow curry in the aftertaste, the cask clearly having been rather active. Finish: long, more peppery, spicier still. Comments: super stuff, just very oak-driven, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. 83 points - whiskyfun.com

2015 Single Cask Nation Ardnamurchan 9 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $199. 99
    Bottle
    $2399.88 Dozen
    ABV: 59.8%

One of the older Ardnas' to come our way. The mineral-maritime note so familiar and loved in younger bottlings is barely diminished by age: Oyster shells, wet rocks, a touch of potpourri, the peat oily and understated, the intensity dropping several notches after exposure. Lashings of the same on the tongue with a potent salted-malt drive that includes flashes of baked apple, pepper and smoked dark chocolate. The oils build and melt into the finish giving this a seamlessness that belies its youth. A slightly more malt-focussed expression, perhaps, though the tongue tingling coastal vibrancy is very much intact, particularly at the finish. 207 bottles from a first-fill bourbon barrel. 59% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 25ml sample.

2012 Single Cask Nation Ben Nevis 12 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $199. 99
    Bottle
    $2399.88 Dozen
    ABV: 56.4%

A new charred hogshead has left its mark, both in colour saturation and aroma; Yet, Nevis' make shines through - elderflower and nectarine piercing the rich wood, becoming more salient with every pass. A similar story on the palate; initially a busy noise of oak and malt until the brightness of the exotic fruits and florals rise, gaining succulence and completely captivating the finish. Bitter oranges and nectarine linger. A novel maturation that pays dividends. Ben Nevis fans should jump on this! 241 bottles. 56.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 25ml sample.

Other reviews... In theory, Ben Nevis with its heft should be able to handle heavy char… Colour: dark amber. Nose: it’s got a recharred sherry feel to it, and everything clicks into place with precision – it’s simple (and simplicity is a virtue here) and compact (same comment), taking us close to a tin of assorted caramels from Rowntree Mackintosh. Remember those? For now the distillate stays a little shy, though water might coax it out. With water: no, still leaning on fresh wood and one can’t deny a hint of young bourbon about it. Mouth (neat): oh this is good! Much livelier than expected, all on oranges, pepper, salt and bitter almonds. Hints of cedarwood, pencil shavings etc., as expected. Excellent. With water: the distillate unfurls, though the whole remains pleasingly dry and bitter, the Ben Nevis DNA taking over once more. Finish: long and very dry. Cold black tea and pepper. Comments: there’s an old amontillado edge at the end, which is amusing. And very good of course – it’s from a cracking house. 87 points - whiskyfun.com

    Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $179. 99
    Bottle
    $2159.88 Dozen
    ABV: 55.9%

'Ruadh Maor' is the name Glenturret use for their peated distillate. This one spent three years finishing in new charred oak. A mild roasted nuttiness to the nose, then definitively sweet and sooty in later sniffs with trace fruitiness and a dried herbal note contributing freshness. Echoes on the palate, riddled with delicious peat reek, accentuating with sweet wood smoke, chimney soot and salted vanilla completing the profile. Lively citrus and salinity pick up the finish. Unmistakably a Highland peater, though more punch than many an Ardmore, and with all the the right stuff in the right places. 307 bottles. 55.9% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 25ml sample.

    Bottle
    $2640.00 Dozen

A gloriously saturated Glen Moray, the fruity malt revealing itself on the nose which achieves full concentration; Six years finishing in a PX hogshead ups the ante adding custard and hints of sticky date. More of a Summer pudding character on the palate, simple and tasty, the sherry thickening the mouthfeel. Altogether relatively feisty for this make, even with water. 56.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 329 bottles. Tasted from a 25ml sample.

    Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $220. 00
    Bottle
    $2640.00 Dozen
    ABV: 50.1%

Finished in a first-fill Bourbon cask. Very pure and enticing in its drier styled bouquet that suggests hay bails, cocoa and an assortment of nuts, transitioning to hints of ripe plums and apples. A genuine softie on the palate, impeccably balanced, defying its natural strength, still not without depth. Flavours of water biscuits, poached orchard fruits (pears and apples), cocoa and old leather are easily neutralised with water, so dilute cautiously. 197 bottles. 50.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 25ml sample.

Other reviews... Colour: northern Californian chardonnay. Just kidding. Nose: very much in the same vein, only slightly rounder, with a little more soft honey (acacia) and peanut oil, plus touches of old paper, which we’re rather fond of. With water: the Williams pear comes through nicely. Mouth (neat): a fruit salad supercharged with eau-de-vie made from the same fruits. Not sure if that makes sense, but there you are. A bit of honey then soothes everything. With water: apples and pears. Finish: apples and pears. Comments: there’s great consistency across these vintages and ages. 85 points - whiskyfun.com

2010 Single Cask Nation Glen Spey 14 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $199. 99
    Bottle
    $2399.88 Dozen
    ABV: 57.5%

Finished in a first fill American oak oloroso hogshead for four years. As though a dollop of fresh honey has been dropped in your glass, the opening sniffs nothing short of superb. Dries after air contact, accenting citrus blossom and faint curaçao. What a bright and engaging oloroso cask this is! The intense honey-malt drive combined with a succulent dried fruit character pops at mid palate. Mouthfilling and plush, the malt keeps up with the sherry (just), leaving Granita cheesecake with a wee drizzle of Grand Marnier to finish. Ripe Meyer lemons and toasty oak with water. A freak bottling from an obscure make. 235 bottles. 57.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 25ml sample.

Other reviews... May I take this opportunity to remind you that when it comes to sherry casks, American oak is the rule and European oak the exception. Indeed, it’s rather counterintuitive. Colour: full gold. Nose: very similar aromatic territory, though here we’re leaning more towards dried and candied fruits, with subtler spices and a lovely soft liquorice. Splendid orange liqueur with honey, dried figs, white nougat, sweet wine like a muscat (a sweet one, muscat isn’t always sweet) or late-harvest gewurztraminer… In fact, it’s an extremely friendly nose. With water: little change, it just becomes even more approachable. Mouth (neat): a fantastic cocktail of honeyed liqueurs, with a clear, direct, irresistible side. I believe this baby could replace honey in your yoghurts, pastries, tisanes, over your pancakes etc. For a wee kick that instantly lifts the spirit and soothes your worries and fits of rage. Please don’t quote me to your local health authorities. With water: it joins its 2013 sibling in terms of style. Finish: long, gentle, honeyed, extremely moreish. Comments: a superb honeyed sweetness and a malt that should appeal to absolutely everyone. 87 points - whiskyfun.com

Rich, expansive and refined, this is a classic example of Yarra Valley Shiraz.

The Coldstream Hills Reserve Shiraz has been a single vineyard wine since 2014 and is made using traditional techniques in small open fermentation pots, including in some years, the use of whole clusters. The wine was matured in seasoned and new (24%) French oak barriques and vat for seven months.
Dense midnight black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Leaping from the glass are spicy dark plum and liquorice aromas which are complexed by notions of clove, vanillin cedar, smoked meats and peppered earth. Rich, expansive dark plum, liquorice and black cherry fruits engulf the beautifully fleshed, medium bodied palate. Smoky vanillin cedar, dried meat, clove and peppered earth elements lend further nuance. Displaying plenty of power, it has a polished yet sturdily built tannin structure and long, refined, pepper infused finish.

Biscuity nougat, crème brulee and subtle spicy bacon fat notes lend further sophistication. Rich and creamy textured yet showing sublime finesse, the palate is filled with fleshy white peach, nectarine, dried honey and cashew flavours. Deep red to dark red heart with black tinged edges and a vibrant red hue. Alluring scents of violet, red to dark cherry, strawberry and anise waft through the nostrils with a perfumed like intensity followed by spicy cedar, forest floor and fresh herb notes. Open, powerful and expansive, delicious ripe red to dark cherry and strawberry fruits carry a gorgeous supple textural feel across the palate. From the Deer Farm vineyard in Gladysdale. 5% whole bunches. A medium, bright crimson. A pure-fruited bouquet with raspberries, red cherries, rose petal and just a little sous bois as it sits in the glass. There's a burst of flavour as it hits the medium-bodied palate, balanced by superfine, persistent tannins. And good as this is now, this has terrific ageing potential over the next six to 10 years, and probably longer. Drink by 2035.

The colour is deeper than the Beenak and it’s a more powerful wine. The nose is deeply intense with powerful red fruits and a slightly button mushroom character. About 5% whole bunch included to add woody notes with raspberry and cherry flavours with a little graphite. Plush and opulent with structure and poise.

Rich red to dark fruits make a powerful entrance framed by refined yet sturdy tannins which carry through to a long, expansive finish.

Situated in the picturesque Yarra Valley, Coldstream Hills was established in 1985 by James and Suzanne Halliday. The fruit for this wine was sourced from low yielding, mature G Block with a variety of handling and fermentation techniques, including the use of whole bunches. This wine was matured for ten months in new (47%) and seasoned French oak barrels.
Deep dark red core with black toned edges and a bright red hue. Captivating the olfactory senses are perfumed aromatics of violet, dark cherry, strawberry and subtle anise which are trailed by spicy vanillin cedar, fresh herb and forest floor notes. Rich red to dark cherry, strawberry and red liquorice fruits make a powerful entrance. Vanillin cedar, forest floor, infusions of fresh herbs and spice lie underneath. Quite supple in it’s flow, refined yet sturdy tannins provide ample structure across the back half. Long, expansive finish.

While James Halliday no longer lives in the house he built at the winery, his picture-perfect vineyard photos grace the labels, and his legacy here will always live on. Sourced solely from Block G, planted in 1988, this is another impressive and, no doubt, long-lived Reserve Pinot. Dark fruits, violets and spices like nutmeg and clove pervade the nose while the palate is concentrated without being heavy. Firm, yet supple and persistent tannins round out a wine that will still be providing pleasure 10–20 years from now. Drink by 2038.

This Nicks Secret Shiraz is a rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully matured Barossa Shiraz at a fraction of it’s normal price. Rich, silky textured and seductive, it pairs Barossa’s signature plush fruit with complexing tertiary elements. Situated along the banks of the North Para River at Rowland Flat in the Southern Barossa Valley and produced from old vines, it’s crafted by a seventh-generation winemaking family.

Plush and silky, this is a beautifully matured Barossa Shiraz that’s in it’s prime drinking window.

Midnight black heart with a dark brick red hue. The olfactory senses are filled with scents of dark plum, liquorice and peppered fennel. Trailing notes of vanillin oak, earthy mocha, smoked meat and subtle leather then chime in. Rich and silky, the palate is draped with a seductive wave of dark plum, liquorice and smoky fennel flavours which meld into a back drop of earthy vanillin oak, dried meat, leather and spicy mocha characters. Voluptuous mouth feel with seamlessly integrated, cashmere like tannins interwoven through the long, plush finish.

Beautifully maturing with seductive complexity, the bouquet shows dark fruit richness, fine leather, cake spice, and assorted nut characters. The palate is wonderfully weighted and plush, complemented by silky texture and beautifully melded tannins, making it gracefully opulent and delectably appealing. At its best: now to 2030.

An impressive example of a mature Barossa Shiraz from a vineyard now more than 100 years old. Engaging from the outset with aromas of dark chocolate, liqueur cherry, a little earth, subtle leathery notes, and rich prune-like characters. The palate is dense and concentrated, with great weight seamlessly integrated with subtle oak and supported by fine tannins. It seems to be just entering a tertiary stage, and it appears to have plenty of time ahead of it, as you’d expect from this vintage. Drink 2025-2035.

Not often one comes across a new release red with this amount of time under its belt, especially at a price like this. 1926 is the year that the **** family purchased the estate. A mature red with good complexity, the colour is a dark maroon. Time has allowed the oak to merge impeccably and the nose gives us notes of tobacco leaves, dried herbs, plums and smoked meats. As we move to the palate we see more soy, beefstock and vegemite characters. There is fine balance and very good length, finishing with soft, furry tannins. Still five to eight years of pleasure ahead of it, it has matured superbly and should continue to do so.

British Navy Pussers Coronation Reserve Navy Strength Rum (700ml)
    Caribbean,
    $139. 99
    Bottle
    $1679.88 Dozen
    ABV: 54.5%

Bottled as a salute to the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla on 6th May 2023, the latest Pusser's edition features a blend of high-ester pot and column still distillates from Caribbean countries in Great Britain’s Colonial past, namely, Guyana (Demerara) and Trinidad. Well-received by fans of traditional, dark and punchy styles, the heavy pot-still influence from Guyana is said to be significant. True to the brand's provenance, the rum comes bottled at 54.5% (Navy Proof), similar to that served on the 31st day of July 1970 when the Admiralty discontinued its daily issue of rum to Ships’ Companies, ending the longest tradition in seafaring history.

Other reviews... Reddish mahogany in color. Dried fruits, sweet and floral notes with a little alcohol on the nose. On the palate, the dried fruits are there with a hefty dose of warm alcohol taste with a spicy kick. Vanilla and almonds mix with oak and light leather too. Full-bodied, medium dry and quite long after taste. One can't go wrong with this one. - rumratings.com

Never Never Distilling Co. Ginache Gin (700ml)
    South Australia, AUSTRALIA
    $84. 99
    Bottle
    $1019.88 Dozen
    ABV: 38%

Other reviews... Paying homage to their home up in McLaren Vale, it makes perfect sense when Never Never created a wine-gin that utilises local Grenache fruit. It gives bold aromas of fresh, lithe berries, keeping the gin within the spirit range of alcohol, and bottling at 38% has helped to not only make sure the gin isn't lost with the grapes but has helped to amplify the fresher aspects of the grapes themselves. Brazen fresh raspberries, in particular, command the aroma of the gin. The more spice-forward botanicals of the Triple Juniper gin come to the forefront. On the palate, the raspberry drops off a little to make space for deeper red fruits, jammy strawberry, and plums. Juniper still stands out well in this bold style of gin, supported by a strong hit of citrus to carry through and create more intrigue in the spirit. 90 points - Jess Clayfield, winecompanion.com

    2022 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco
    Piedmont, ITALY
    $110. 00
    Bottle
    $1320.00 Dozen
    ABV: 15%
    Closure: Cork

Produttori del Barbaresco is a cooperative of 51 growers that controls more than 250 acres of premium Nebbiolo vineyards in Barbaresco. This wine is blend of Nebbiolo fruit harvested from different vineyards. In great vintages they also produce nine single vineyard Barbaresco’s located within the Barbaresco village boundaries of Asili, Rabaja, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Paje, Montefico, Muncagota and Rio Sordo.

    Other Reviews....
The 2022 Barbaresco is a pretty rich, heady wine. Dark cherry/plum fruit, cloves, licorice and mocha build as the 2022 shows off its considerable depth. This is one of the few 2022s that is quite resonant texturally. The aromatics could be more lifted and the tannins could use a bit more polish, but those qualities were next to impossible to come by in 2022. The inclusion of some juice from Riserva lots is a great help. All things considered, this is a stellar showing. Drink 2027-2034.

    Antonio Galloni - Vinous

Bright and overtly fruity, this is full of intoxicating violets, cinnamon, blood oranges and black cherries, expressing mint and balsamic depth. Full-bodied with a soft, smooth attack, dusty yet velvety tannins and brilliant acidity. The chocolaty finish shows licorice and a mouth-coating texture. Delicious and balanced. Drink or hold.
    94 points
    Aldo Fiordelli - JameSuckling.com

A relatively early harvest saw Produttori del Barbaresco's grapes brought in between 22 September and 3 October. The cooperative decided to reduce the production of its Riserva crus, using approximately 25%-30% of those grapes to bring greater balance to this flagship wine. It is deep, vibrant ruby in hue and just as lively on the nose. Dark currants tangle with brushwood and liquorice root. The palate is rambunctious, full of vigour, racing acidity and earth-tinged wild berries. The alcohol packs a punch but is matched by the fruit concentration and confident structure. Crisp, dry tannins will keep this ticking along. Drink 2026-2038.

    IRELAND
    $66. 99

    $803.88 Dozen
    ABV: 33%

An Irish whiskey-based liqueur known for its dessert-like flavour profile of creamy vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch. It's widely described as a sweet, smooth, and velvety, black-coloured elixir, best served on ice, in coffee, or in cocktails. 33% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... a distinctive Irish whiskey-based liqueur that blends aged pot still Irish whiskey and neutral spirits with rich natural flavours of vanilla, caramel and sweet spice to create a smooth, creamy-sweet profile at 33% alcohol by volume. It pours dark in colour and opens with inviting aromas of vanilla, toffee, cream and warm baking spices. On the palate it is velvety and rich, showing flavours of caramel, butterscotch, vanilla fudge and gentle spice with a lingering sweetness that’s easy-drinking and fun. Fascinating fact: Shanky’s Whip is presented under a playful legend of an Irish jockey named Shanky, and the brand aims to bring a creative twist to traditional Irish whiskey flavours with a bold black liqueur that works for sipping or mixed drinks. Serve it neat, on the rocks, in coffee drinks or mixed into cocktails like cola or espresso martinis. Rey Campero Espadin Mezcal (700ml
    Oaxaca, MEXICO
    $139. 99
    Bottle
    $1679.88 Dozen
    ABV: 48.4%

Espadin Mezcals are a good place to start your journey, being characterful enough for both sipping neat or mixing in cocktails. Arguably the value buy in the Rey Campero collection, this is generally considered one of the better examples on the market - no doubt partly due to bottling at high strength. The process begins with cooking hand-picked agaves in a conical earth oven, followed by grinding in a tahona (stone mill) and fermentation in open air with wild yeasts. Double distillation is carried out in a copper still. Many batches are aged in glass before bottling, which is said to give them a much softer feel. 48.4% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Seeing as I have loved several different batches of this one, I figured I should finally post a review! This continues to be an impressively bold, robust mezcal for the price, that nevertheless has plenty of nuance and finer details if you take the time to go looking for them. Nose is full of leather, pine, and soft touches of fruit; not as upfront with the agave sweetness as other espadín, more just a pleasantly lingering cooked yam feeling on the finish. Palate is similar to the aromatics, with some minty sharpness added in; perhaps a little sharp from the alcohol as well, but mostly in an enjoyable, perk-me-up sort of way. And if this sits in the glass 10 minutes or so, wow does it just become crazy gorgeous, with that minty note getting fuller, and mingling with the cooked yam, and some other flavors coming out: banana bread, cocoa powder, and I swear just a little thimble of an old-fashioned glazed donut. This is just a great Espadín, and a textbook example of the bold, punchy flavors that Candelaria Yegolé often delivers. - mezcalreviews.com

Rey Campero La Herencia De Sanchez Espadin Mezcal (700ml)
    Oaxaca, MEXICO
    $109. 99
    Bottle
    $1319.88 Dozen
    ABV: 42%

'La Herencia de Sánchez' is the second brand from Romulo Sanchez Parada. Mainly sold in Mexico, it will be less familiar to mezcal lovers than his Rey Campero label which gets a wider distribution. The production process is the same for both, employing traditional tahona-crushing and copper-distillation methods. For drinkers, perhaps the most important difference will be the lower strength (42% as opposed to close to 50%ABV for the Rey Campero). That should mean the La Herencia de Sánchez will be a softer alternative while being easier on the wallet! Reviews highlight a rustic, earthy and bold profile with notes of campfire smoke, roasted agave, citrus, and herbs. It is widely regarded as a high-quality sipper.

Rey Campero Sierra Negra Mezcal (700ml)
    Oaxaca, MEXICO
    $220. 00
    Bottle
    $2640.00 Dozen
    ABV: 49.3%

Due to the limited nature of Sierra Negra agaves, this mezcal was originally only procurable in Mexico. A single batch was finally exported in 2018 witha small-scale outturn ongoing. Often harvested from remote mountain areas, usually by hand, the variety takes about 25 years to mature making it a scarce resource. Once popular, it's no longer commonly used, partly due to over-harvesting and an extremely slow growth rate. Rey Campero's expression has been variously described, one taster noting "...all brine and smoke - like an Ardbeg 10 year old (for whisky enthusiasts)", with complex aromatics and intense flavours. 49.3% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Aromas include sugarcane, fruit (peach, apricot), chocolate, vegetal notes, and pepper. Flavors feature agave sweetness, fruit (fig, pineapple), pepper spice, earthiness, and some bitter or ashy notes. The overall impression is positive, describing a complex spirit with balanced sweetness, enjoyable flavor, and a pleasant finish. Some find it boozy or muddled. - mezcalreviews.com

Never Never Distilling Co. Triple Juniper Gin (700ml)
    South Australia, AUSTRALIA
    $79. 99
    Bottle
    $959.88 Dozen
    ABV: 43%

The “Never Never” label speaks of the Australian bush and its people, but also something otherworldly. Established in 2016, the aim of the project is “not just to create delicious spirits, but to make the most flavoursome spirits on the market.” Combining the talents of George Georgiadis, Sean Baxter and Tim Boast, their Triple Juniper gin employs air-freighted berries for maximum freshness. The juniper is treated in three distinct ways, partially steeped, partially in the pot and partially in the vapour. The aim is to capture both the bright and the earthy qualities, and to balance the massive juniper input, a few other botanicals are used: Australian coriander provides brighter citrus and less earthiness than its English or Indian counterparts. A predominate fresh lemon citrus influence with a touch of fresh lime and liquorice adds lift over a root base of angelica and orris. Native pepperberry provides a balancing, savoury element without the heavy menthol finish of traditional peppers. Finally a hint of cinnamon hits just the right amount of warmth.

Other reviews... An impeccable expression of the classic gin flavour profile, adjusted and modelled to suit the Australian palate. Dialling up the citrus profile and playing into a more refreshing spirit. The method of extracting juniper through maceration and multiple distillation styles allows the gin to bring forward the full spectrum of juniper flavours. Pulling out pine in its fresh, green profile and richer, woodier, sappier qualities. Juniper also has an array of volatile oils that make up its flavour, including ginger, dusky rose, and citrus oil. Within this gin, the core juniper botanical brings plenty of complexity. Wrapped up with notes of Meyer lemon, sun-warm pine and subtle spice, this gin is polished and refined but maintains its sense of joyfulness. 95 points - Jess Clayfield, winecompanion.com

[Batch 1 tasted 2017] Plush and oily, juniper-heavy aromas combine with citrus, fresh sawn pine, coriander, faint anise and white pepper warmth. Follows through with a silky wave of juniper gelato, citrus peel and delicate pepper-cinnamon warmth. Leaner and more linear to finish; the spice and lime pick up where the juniper trails off. Excellent length. 43% Alc./Vol. 30ml sample.

The tell-tale signs of age are evident in the thick legs down the sides of the glass, a precursor to the nose; Some fabulous Bourbon-oak-soaked depths to dive into here, becoming peachy and soft after air contact, augmented by what smells like A-grade wood. On entry, viscous, chewy and rounded, then more of a peaches and cream profile with a fine fruit-oak balance. The sugars retreat past mid palate, rich oils and hints of curacao taking their place as three decades of oak unravel. Ends in a rush of tongue-coating oils and powdery tannins. Mere years away from its peak, or just past it is debatable, regardless, this exquisite, slow-burn and very Bourbonesque grain delivers serious body, length and texture. Spend $1K+ on Eagle Rare 17 or buy this outright bargain. 206 bottles / finished for three years in an STR first-fill oloroso barrique. 57.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 25ml sample.

An alluring Barossa Shiraz with an immediately expressive nose, lifted iodine, French and American oak spice, and a deep, dark fruit core. The aroma alone draws you in. The palate is bold yet beautifully measured, delivering blackberry, mulberry and dark plum wrapped in savoury spice and a distinct chargrilled note that adds a deliciously rustic, smoky edge. There is impressive weight, texture and flavour concentration, all carried with fine balance and a sense of effortless ripeness. Made from 56 year old unirrigated vines located in McLaren Vale’s famed Blewitt Springs sub district, this superb Grenache normally sells for around $60. At over 60% off as a Nicks Secret, it delivers outstanding bang for your buck at just $22.99.

Rich, succulent and peppery with a gently muscular structure, this a quintessential expression of Blewitt Springs Grenache.

Matured in 500 litre French oak puncheons and 300 litre hogsheads for a period of 9 months with 15% whole bunch fruit included in the fermentation process. Deep dark red colour with black toned edges and a bright red hue. Expressive red to dark raspberry and red liquorice aromas intermingle with ripe red cherry, scorched earth and peppered herb notes. Rich and succulent, the mid weighted palate is bursting with moreish red to dak raspberry, liquorice and ripe cherry fruits. Fresh, juicy acidity with the pepper infused back drop detailed with earthy graphite and spicy dried herb elements. Expansive and deep, it has a gently muscular tannin structure and long, peppery finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
    Alc. 14.5%

    Other Reviews….
This is another Grenache from the Blewitt Springs sub-region, and it was made in a largely similar way to the other wines in the portfolio. In this case, it was aged in a mix of French oak puncheons and the smaller French oak hogsheads, so the oak uptake is a little more obvious but still not to the point of being overt. It has that slightly dusty, dried herb and spicy influence over the bright red fruits that emerge from this region. It’s seamless, it’s smooth, and there’s a velvety succulence about it, while that slightly dry savoury finish completes and balances a terrific wine. Drink 2025-2035.

The expressive and sophisticated ***** is seamless with its layers of pristine plum and red earth with a fennel seed lift. This is generously textured with dark berry flavors and granitic layers, gliding to a long, seamless finish accented by sandy tannins. There's plenty to like here and this will build over the next decade. Drink 2027-2035.

"...like summer in a glass... very accomplished and unique... Highly recommended." - martiniwhisperer.com

An elite, top-tier producer, famously named the 2025 Halliday Winery of the Year, Giant Steps' focus on single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay has consistently earned them rave reviews for elegance, purity and finesse. That same care and attention to detail has been applied in making an artisanal Vermouth. Hand harvested, certified organic Viognier grapes, whole bunch pressed, wild fermented in French oak and blended with a host of botanicals macerated separately in a distillate of the mother wine (with help of Four Pillars Distillery). Two styles of Vermouth are produced, but the Semi-Dry White is considered the best. Clean, crisp and refreshing, it resonates winemaking skill, being more akin to a structured dry white than many traditional European vermouths. Measured against bar standards like Noilly Prat, it's lighter, more elegant and fresher, accenting notes of lemon and lime zest, thyme and dried apricots, with a cooling character that finishes with a fine-tuned herbal bitterness; gentian, dried orange peel tang and hints of flor sherry. The discount is of the likes we've never seen in its category - and we may never see again. The quality means you can embrace it as a standalone drink, on the rocks with a twist of orange, or use it to create superb Martinis and modern cocktails like a white Negroni, Boulevardier or Aperol Spritz. Just one caveat - Vermouth doesn't last forever, so once opened, remember to stash it in the fridge to maintain maximum freshness. Batch 04/18 tasted.

Other reviews... a very accomplished and unique product in the range of vermouth’s available, and a thoughtful evolution on the original recipe that suits the current vogue for a grown-ups aperitif...The white version I became quite smitten with. Its like summer in a glass. On the nose its a lovely honeycomb aroma (reminded me of a ripe Marsanne wine actually). It is fuller on the palette than its sister, with a dry finish and you get a hint of citrus, a note of light bitterness at the end, very nicely integrated. It is not floral or spicy like Noilly Prat and is more akin to Dolin perhaps in weight + intensity of flavours. This makes a terrific Martini. If you like yours not so astringent, then this is ideal. You don’t need a dash of Orange Bitters and the semi sweetness rounds out of the cocktail and definitely doesn’t dominate several of the gins I tried. I used about 5ml to 10ml to be safe in the 60ml cocktail and that was plenty. Less is more. Highly recommended. - martiniwhisperer.com

Notes from the producers... Vermouth has a long and surreal history, on the fringes of apothecary, art and medicine. This vermouth has small and exacting measures of botanicals, including wormwood, juniper, gentian, bay leaf, Cinchona bark, Seville orange, Meyer lemons, blood orange, green tea, Timor Pepper, Mandarin, native limes, cumquats and orris root (and many more!). Most of the botanicals were grown on our Yarra Valley Vineyards. The medieval treatise ‘Causes & Cures’ recorded the beneficial and restorative powers of all known herbs and spices.

As possibly the most consistent of the five First Growth properties, Chateau Latour is held in incredibly high esteem in the wine community. And while there have been rightfully some legendary wines made at this estate over their journey, since the purchase of the property by French billionaire François Pinault in 1993 the wines have been taken to an entirely new level. The next key step was to take greater ownership of their wine's release and distribution, moving away from wine futures following the 2011 vintage, and now Chateau Latour release wines only when they feel they are at the start of their drinking window.

    Other Reviews....
The 2019 Latour is a profound wine in the making, and it will surely emerge as one of the most long-lived wines of the vintage, as well as one of the greatest. Unwinding in the glass with scents of rich cassis fruit, English walnuts, cigar wrapper, black truffle, loamy soil and violets, it’s full-bodied, layered and muscular, with huge depth at the core, ripe tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, seemingly interminable finish. Checking in at 14.1% alcohol, this prodigious Latour will require two decades to hit its stride, but it will be more than worth the wait. Drink 2036-2070.

William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2019 Latour is every bit as impressive as it has always been. Silky and caressing on the palate, with exceptional balance, the 2019 has so much going on. Dark red fruit, new leather, spice and a kick of blood orange are some of the notes that build in the glass, but ultimately the 2019 impresses most with its textural finesse. There was a bit of rain during harvest, but that does not appear to have been much of an issue. The 2019 is a quintessentially modern Latour, a wine that deftly marries power with elegance. Yields came in at 45 hectoliters per hectare, quite a bit higher than the long-term average of 34 hectoliters per hectare. Drink 2029-2069.

Classic Pauillac darker currants, smoky tobacco, spicy wood, damp earth, and graphite all define the 2019 Château Latour, a ripe and approachable Latour that has more accessibility than many vintages while still possessing quintessential Latour character and depth. Blended from 92.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and aged 18 months in new French oak, it's medium to full-bodied with a round, layered mouthfeel, beautiful, almost velvety tannins, and a tremendous finish. I'd happily drink a bottle today (don't tell anyone), yet it's going to benefit from 5-7 years of bottle age and keep for 50 years or more in fine form. Drink 2031-2081.

Dark blackcurrants with smokey tobacco, liquorice and slate. Cool straight away, fresh but so perfectly mouthfilling, not sweet like 2020, this is more cooling and fresh, blue fruit, black cherry, fleshy like fruit skin texture. Dark, I love the 2019s because they're more controlled and serious but so nuanced. To me this is how a great Pauillac can taste, serious, deep, classic Cabernet markers, lots of minerality in the flint and stoney aspects, strong tannins and a powerful, muscular structure with minty sides. An amazing Pauillac, this is really my style. Still so full of concentration and life, this will last forever. Drink 2030-2060.

    Georgina Hindle - Decanter

Composed of 92.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.5% Merlot, the 2019 Latour is deep garnet-purple in color. It comes barreling out of the glass with powerful notes of blackcurrant jelly, blackberry pie, and plum preserves, followed by suggestions of pencil shavings, cast-iron pan, and charcoal. The medium to full-bodied palate is exquisitely constructed with a myriad of very fine layers, supported by ripe, grainy tannins and beautiful tension, finishing epically long and mineral-laced. It's still very tightly wound and will require at least 5 to 7 more years in cellar, then should age gracefully for a good 50-years+.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW - The Wine Independant

Deep, dark, garnet in color, the wine is equally dark in its fruit, cigar wrapper, smoke, espresso, leaf, cedar, and spice profile. With elegance, power, firmness, and silkiness, the wine on the palate immediately cuts a wide swatch across your palate. All that regal, ripe, sweet, fruit and crushed gravel stick with you almost seamlessly for more than 50 seconds until you reach the endnote with its salty, mineral-driven kick in the endnote. This is a fabulous Latour that will age for decades. The wine was made from a blend of 92.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.5% Merlot, 14.1% ABV. The Grand Vin was produced from only 36% of the harvest. Drink from 2030-2070.

Dubbed as "New Zealand's greatest winery" by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and "New Zealand's first growth" by Decanter (amongst many other superlatives), Te Mata is a family-owned Estate in Hawke's Bay, on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. Established in 1896 on a former pastoral land-holding, the Estate has been producing classic wines modelled on Bordeaux varieties and blends with a modern interpretation.

Coleraine is an assemblage of the finest wines from distinct plots within Te Mata Estate's oldest vineyards on the Havelock Hills. Each parcel of grapes was destemmed before a warm-plunged fermentation and extended maceration on skins. The resulting wines were then matured in predominantly new French oak barrels for 17 months. The final blend of this 2024 is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc.

This is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc. 55% new oak. This vintage puts me in mind of the mighty 2020; that sort of depth and concentration, though it has some of the acid cut of 2021 in the mix too. Winemaker Phil Brodie says 2024 was a dry vintage, and warm too, with small bunches and lower crop levels. Said it could have gone too ripe, but they walked through the vineyards on a daily basis, tasting and testing, and they picked it when they thought it was just right. When I think about NZ wine, at the top of the tree, I have Kumeu for Chardonnay, Bilancia for Shiraz (and sometimes Chardonnay!), and Te Mata for Cabernet. A trio of meticulous producers who regularly deliver that little bit extra. The one percenters, if you like.
Deep dark wine, black and red fruit, chocolate and ironstone, some creamy and spicy cedar oak, dried flowers, a light minty perfume, slight roasted red capsicum and pimento. It’s medium to full-bodied, crisp ‘mineral’ acidity, lavish graphite tannin, tobacco and nori, a fresh blackberry nip to it, brooding and ferrous, with a firm and savoury finish of superb length. An exceptional wine. It will keep, probably, for as long as you want to keep it, if you can keep your hands off it, that is. Drink 2028-2049+.

This is a masterpiece, much like a great work of art. The bouquet shows cassis, dark plum, bouquet garni, baking spice, rich floral, and cedar characters. It’s concentrated with exceptional depth and mouth-coating texture, wonderfully framed by finely polished tannins. It’s perfectly proportioned and gracefully powerful, combining scintillating fruit purity with seductive complexity. The wine flows seamlessly to a persistent, structured finish.

Commencing with meticulous site selection and vineyard design in 1991, Felton Road's story is one of refusal to compromise. A strict 100% estate policy with fully organic and biodynamic viticulture ensures that the fruit arrives at the winery as pure as can be, while the entire estate comes as close to true sustainability as is possible. A commitment to hands-off winemaking: gravity flow; indigenous yeasts and malolactic; an avoidance of fining and filtration; all help preserve the wine's expression of its terroir. The result is Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir which accurately express the authenticity and complexity of the unique vineyards.

Felton Road farms four properties totaling 32 ha in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago. Block 2 is positioned on a gentle east facing slope immediately north of Block 3 on The Elms vineyard and was planted in 1992.

The 2024 is tight and compact but intense, with all the components to evolve and unfurl over the next decade and beyond. Drink 2026-2036.

Delightful pear and lime scents greet the nostrils followed by hints of green apple, fresh herbs and wet stone. Carrying a river stone like textural feel across the palate are delicious pear, lime and green apple fruits. 2024 Felton Road Block 6 Chardonnay
    Central Otago, NEW ZEALAND

Felton Road manages four properties covering 34 hectares in the Bannockburn subregion of Central Otago. Block 6, located on a mild north-facing slope within The Elms vineyard, was planted in 1993.

A dense and layered white that’s mostly from Mendoza (Wente clone). It’s full-bodied but not heavy, with excellent phenolic intensity. Long and powerful. Just a hint of creaminess. Flavorful finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

The 2024 Chardonnay Block 6 is very complete. Firm and floral, this has more girth and expanse than Felton's Block 2, but it doesn't want for natural acidity. The 2024 is ripe but not lavish, with excellent clarity of fruit, precision and tension. Subtle nutty oak and lees-derived pastry notes linger. Drink 2026-2034.

Doused with lashings of black fruit, this is a power packed, opulent and dense Barossa Shiraz.

Selected from a single block high on the estate peak, where the soils are shallow and exposure to sunlight is long, the Beast embodies all the classic Barossa attributes of power, concentration, richness and structure. Maturation took place in French oak (60% new and 40% seasoned) for a period of 22 months.
Magnificent colour saturation featuring an impenetrable inky black heart and a near equally deep dark red black hue. Potent ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum scents soar out of the glass followed by some spicy vanillin cedar, mocha, earth and subtle peppered fennel notes. Rich, densely concentrated and opulent yet possessing an underlying freshness, the weighty palate is coated with lavish dark plum, liquorice and blackberry fruits. Spicy vanillin cedar, subtle earthy mocha and peppered fennel elements are also evident. Velvety yet structurally sturdy tannins. Power packed it finishes exceptionally long and sumptuous.

Shiraz from D block on the Hentley Farm estate in the western Barossa, destemmed and aged in French oak (60% new, 40% seasoned) for 22 months. Bright magenta-splashed crimson with a heady array of beautifully plush blueberry, blackberry and dark plum fruits. Hints of baking spices, cedar, vanilla pod, licorice, dark chocolate, citrus blossom, tobacco and roasting meats. Pure and opulent from woah-to-go. Travels with harmony and latent power and is backed by super-compact, silty tannins and fine mineral focus. A wine and winery in fantastic form. Drink by 2045.

Deep crimson. Intense dark chocolate cedar, black berry aromas with hits of wax polish. Beautifully balanced wine with pure blackberry pastille fruits, velvety form tannins and underlying roasted chestnut, cedar notes. Finishes Claret-firm with minerally notes. A beastly good Barossa Shiraz with very good ageing potential. Drink 2028–2042.

Other reviews.... Cereal grain notes and fresh-cut oak suggest some youthfulness here, but the stone fruits and hot caramel sundae appear dense and richly layered. On the palate the big, up-front sweetness evolves into nougat, marzipan, and caramel-covered apple, sprinkled with root beer spices, before more grain and pastry notes appear on the finish. Powerful and vibrant stuff.

Other reviews... This offers up warming ginger, candied orange, and wisps of furniture polish. The lavish and leathery oak flavors are apparent but don’t overwhelm the abundance of zippy, bright citrus—orange oil and yuzu—as the palate unleashes wave upon wave of spices that keep you guessing where it will head next. In the end, more lingering ginger and dusty cocoa.

Rich and concentrated yet refined, generous blackcurrant and liquorice fruits flood the mouth supported by a spicy vanillin cedar, ripe mulberry, subtle tobacco, earth and bay leaf background. The first thing you note is the color. It’s deep and opaque. And then the nose displays all you expect from those blackcurrant and dark berry characters of Coonawarra, but with that fine leafy lift that brings a regionality to it. The palate is both structured and yet elegantly defined, with a firm thread of fine limestone-like characters, of the tannins neatly sitting with the integration of fine oak. This is a wine that’s built for extended cellaring, and yet its balance is so supreme that it can be enjoyed right now. Super wine. Drink 2025-2045.

The Eadie is a single plot wines that is made from fruit located on the southern side of Jacksons Creek in the vineyard of Craiglee, and is named for the family who first planted vines there in 1863. What a thing.
A lush and plush expression, somewhat outside the norm of the Craiglee precision, a touch more volume but all the control and charm expected of top flight shiraz from here. Depth is a thing here, so too a velvety feel, rich, ripe plum, a liqueur cassis note that flows through and then lifts with green olive, violet florals, a touch of sweet spice, dried Italian herbs, faint game meat notes, some cedar and clove in there too. A lot on. Really good. Just so, rich but refreshing, and a full experience. So unique. Drink 2026-2038+
