2023 Heathcote Estate Single Vineyard Shiraz
A rich, concentrated Heathcote Shiraz with a chiselled yet polished feel and a long and highly finessed finish.
Established by Yabby Lake in 1999, winemaker Tom Carson has in a relatively short time built this certified organic estate into one of Heathcote’s leading producers. Matured for 11 months in French oak (20% new) with 20% whole bunch inclusion.
Impenetrable inky black colour with a very deep dark red black hue. Pronounced liquorice and blackberry aromas are intertwined with red plum, spicy vanillin cedar, fennel, smoky earth and peppered dried herb notes. Rich, concentrated blackberry, liquorice and red to dark plum fruits glide across the refined, silky textured palate. Excellent underlying structure with sculptured tannins providing a chiselled yet polished feel. Vanillin cedar, smoky clove, earth and peppered fennel elements form the back drop. Understated in its power it finishes long and highly finessed.
Drink over the next 10-12 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Gosh, this is such a good wine. It was a super vintage in Heathcote, and you can see it immediately on the nose with further highlights on the palate. This is not a massively opulent style of wine, but it has tremendous concentration of fruit delivered with such poise and elegance, spicy, savoury dark fruits, a little chocolate, plenty of those plummy riches. And finished with incredible polish with the use of 500-liter French oak puncheons. It seems the 20% whole bunch inclusions have certainly brought that palate into focus. An exceptional wine. Drink 2026 - 2046.

Delves deeply into the heart of Heathcote shiraz and it's there that lovers of the grape will find total enjoyment. Gotta love the combination of black and red fruits, the energy they emit, and the elegant addition of spices, briar, earth, smart vanillin oak and a mineral-like vigour that flows through the wine. It's swept along in grainy, ripe tannins, lingering long on the finish. Drink by 2038.
