2023 Nicks Secret BR BDX Cabernets
This Nicks Secret is produced by a well known Hunter Valley winery who have spread their wings to make this excellent Bordeaux styled blend from the Wrattonbully region. Matured in a combination of new and 1 year old French oak barrels for a period of 14 months, it’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Shiraz.
Elegant and refined yet beautifully fleshed, this is an excellent Bordeaux styled blend that delivers fantastic value.
Midnight black heart with a dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced blackcurrant and mulberry scents combine with cedary tobacco, dried herb, subtle earthy black olive and spice notes. Elegant and refined yet beautifully fleshed, layered across the mid weighted palate are blackcurrant, mulberry and subtle liquorice fruits which are interwoven with complexing tobacco, dried herb, spicy cedar and earthy black olive characters. Fine grained tannins with a long savoury finish that retains an underlying freshness.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Other Reviews….
75/11/8/6% cabernet sauvignon/cabernet franc/malbec/petit verdot. A nicely composed, youthful blend with an impressively even flow of flavour and excellent fruit density. Beautifully fragrant, with pure aromas of blackcurrant and freshly crushed leaves, creating an aura of freshness and class. The palate is supported by a cradle of papery tannins and has all the right proportions for successful ageing. Drink by 2033.

Toni Paterson - James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion
A blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon 75% with Cabernet Franc 11% and small touches of Malbec 8% and Petit Verdot 6% to round out the assemblage. This is almost as if you were perched above a foragers basket of berries and herbs. Blackberry, blueberries and Davidson plums. Some basil, rosemary and tuberose. Black soil, clove and gravelly stones. Clove and cassia bark compliment the intensity of fruit with slinky lines of acidity and firm tannins. This has the ability to age for a decade or so, becoming all the more ethereal and sexy. Drink now with pulled pork and black beans or in 10 years with an irish stew. Drink 2025-2035.
