A delicious example of the famous Rhône blend done McLaren Vale style. Three parcels from different vineyards across McLaren Vale have been blended after fermentation in small open fermenters, before ten months maturation in older French oak hogsheads. The name refers to the two gentlemen, *** and *, who founded ***. An inky dark maroon hue, the nose gives us notes of black fruits, mocha, coffee beans, cloves and leather with a sweet core of chocolate. This is bold, rich and ripe, with silky tannins and a lingering finish. An excellent McLaren Vale red which will bring joy over the next four to eight years. Drink 2024-2032.

Sam Kim – Wine Orbit - That Boutique-y Whisky Company 12 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 45.8%
"An amazing dram at an amazing price." - whiskybase.com
This deeply coloured, oloroso sherry cask-matured whisky pays homage to the lush landscapes and tranquil beauty of the Speyside region. The label design settled for just the one deer, starting with a young buck, getting older, and more dignified, as the whiskies aged, finishing with the dominant stag who has been through some scrapes in his life; older, wiser, and looks a little pissed with everything! Since the 8 year old, the deer is a little more grown up this time around, and has gained a few ‘pints’ on his antlers. Expect aromas and flavours of caramelised nuts, honey-baked dates, orchard fruits, flamed orange peel, and smoky oak that greet the senses with a gentle embrace. A small batch release of circa 1,000 litres. 45.8% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.
Other reviews... Taste is potent, rounded. Again lots of caramel. Quite simplistic but big, punchy and rich. Touch of salted caramel and bitter oak on the finish. I’m conscious that I haven’t written down many taste comparators – it’s because the palate is really quite simplistic. Leads in with that same orange-laced caramel from the aroma and then moves on to that bitter oak and salted caramel, woody burnt wafer, and that’s all I really have to say. Lingers a long time on the palate. Sure the casks have taken over the spirit, but what good casks at the price. I’m getting lots of rich oak from this – not what I associate with sherry seasoning (even if that is the case, this is a rare example of how to do it well). Really well put-together. Certainly worth considering... - whiskybase.com

A chewy, waxy number with lemon oil, preserved lime, some lime pickle and dill notes, touches of sea spray, peanut, pickled ginger and brine. Quite a bit of flavour and pucker to texture, a good energy, a gastronomic wine in some respects, where more is happening than just refreshment factor. Toni Paterson – James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionThis is the Hilltops prestige release from the team, a superb cool climate red. It is a blend of the best they can source from the region (as it turned out, the fruit again came from the Freeman vineyards and those at Boorowa). It received sixteen months maturation in French oak puncheons, 25% new. This is the second release of this wine. Deep red, this is delightfully fresh with bay leaves, dried herbs, raspberries, soy and beef stock. Soft and seductive in texture, there are very fine tannins here and a line of acidity running the full length of the wine. Well structured, this is poised and offers a pleasing, lingering finish. It will drink beautifully for at least the next eight years and one can reasonably expect further improvement over that period. Drink 2024-2032.

Ken Gargett – WinePilot.com - Elixir Distillers The Macbeth Collection Servant Clynelish 14 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$299. 00Bottle$3588.00 DozenABV: 55.1%
"...a clear signature, unmistakably a Clynelish ...a very tasty bottling, in a more modern Clynelish way." - whiskybase.com
Of Scotland's hardest-to-find distilleries, Clynelish must be near the top of the list. We're lucky to see one or two independent releases a year, while the owners seem uninterested in expanding their repertoire beyond the official 14 year old. Enter Elixir Distillers' latest addition to Act Two of the Macbeth series, a collection of forty-two whiskies, each embodying a character from Shakespeare’s tragedy. Says Elixir's Oliver Chilton, "Clynelish is one of the most sought-after and revered malts, known for its unique waxy character. This particular whisky, fully matured in first-fill bourbon casks, fully embraces its supporting role, offering buttery toffee sweetness and beeswax texture, balanced by ground ginger and toasted vanilla. It is certainly a secondary character worth noting, as it rarely steps into the spotlight." Few distilleries illicit so much positive feedback - even from the most experienced malt lovers. Bottled at natural strength and presumably non-chill filtered (though not stated), this is your ticket to join the Clynelish cult. 1600 bottles are on offer globally. 55.1% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... "You get what you expect here. Clynelish is just as present as the first-fill bourbon casks. However, the distillate no longer delivers what you were used to from the pre-2000 vintages. The rich, waxy character has given way to somewhat lighter (more elegant or watery?) influences. Nevertheless, a very tasty bottling, in a more modern Clynelish way." - whiskybase.com
"A fresh, bright fruity and waxy whisky with a clear signature, unmistakably a Clynelish". - whiskybase.com
"Exceptional bottle. fruity waxy lovely. This is the first clynelish ive tried. and its just as good as many 20 years old bourbon cask from signatory or other independant bottlers." - whiskybase.com
More on the Collection... The Macbeth Series by Livingstone is a Scotch Whisky collection selected and bottled by Elixir distillers. This remarkable collection is presented with character notes by renowned whisky writer David Broom, and illustrations by one of Europe's most famous illustrators, Sir Quentin Blake. In a career spanning seven decades, Sir Quentin Blake has illustrated over 300 books including classic works by Roald Dahl such as The BFG, Matilda, and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. He rarely produces any commercial illustration and his work is highly collectable. The Servant is one of ten characterful whiskies in The Household series.

Born from the vibrant spirit of our founder’s late mother and the cherished family moments with her orange trees in their backyard, Heidi’s Orange Bitters is crafted in small batches in Wyong by a father-son pair using Orange Peel and Lemon Myrtle. This inspiration led to a bitters that balances zesty freshness with a subtle, complex depth, making it a versatile companion for both classic and modern cocktails. Start with just a few dashes – the vibrant flavour of Australian orange peel and lemon myrtle means a little goes a long way. Matured in refill ex-Bourbon & refill ex-Sherry octaves before bottling non chill filtered at 45.8% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... At the palate the smokey notes of peat are clear and rich, they give the whisky a sort of "oily" texture, creamy even. The finish brings back the salty smokey notes felt at the notes with echoes of sweet fruits. Very enjoyable experience, a bottle of this whisky that should be in every peat enjoyer's cabinet, delicate but with character and surprisingly balanced. I feel it would also make a good entry level drink to the world of peaty whisky. - whiskybase.com

Other reviews... [Batch 9 tasted] This series has piqued curiosity since its debut, and rightly so. Of course, one can simply enjoy drinking them... Colour: gold. Nose: intensely saline and thoroughly maritime. Think oysters with a splash of Tabasco and extra-brut champagne. The sherry influence is subtle. With water: evokes a beachside bonfire, fuelled by dried seaweed and driftwood. Mouth (neat): pure, fruity, saline peat. Notes of lemon, limoncello, seawater, green pepper, and a host of smoked elements. With water: mellows out a touch, becoming slightly oily, with hints of toasted sesame oil. Finish: smooth, rounded, effortlessly drinkable, with a touch of chocolate. The sherry starts to show itself here. Comments: really fond of this batch. 86 points - whiskyfun.com
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Candied ginger, seashells, and dried, spiced fruit are backed by coastal waves of sea spray and beach bonfire. Palate: Robust and earthy, with burnt coffee grounds, bold peat smoke, and dustings of cocoa and cinnamon. Sticky, stewed stone fruits join in the depths, with salted dark chocolate in tow. Finish: Powerful layers of coastal smoke, charred seaweed, espresso, and meaty malt join cakey spice, chocolate peanuts, and toasted peppercorns.
- That Boutique-y Whisky Company Mortlach 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND$139. 99Bottle$1679.88 DozenABV: 45.8%
Most bottlings from That Boutique-y Whisky Company arrive in a 500ml format. This unusual 700ml release of a 10 Year Old Mortlach started life in the industry standard refill hoagie before being popped it into an ex-rum cask. Fans of Mortlach will know that its main claim to fame, production-wise, is as the home of the most devilishly complex distillation regime in Scotland. It’s also one of the distilleries to use a traditional wormtub to condensate the distillate. Long fermentation and clear wort is the start of production, but then things are a little different. While there are three wash, and three spirit stills, they don’t work in pairs as you’d expect. It all adds up to the new make spirit having been distilled 2.81 times. The muscular character of its distillate has earned it the nickname 'The Beast of Dufftown' which is rather terrifyingly depicted on the label for this limited edition of 445 bottles. 45.8% Alc./Vol.
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Generous helpings of sweet raisins and prunes, pear pastries, marzipan and a touch of mocha. Palate: Big and bold with oily, meaty malt, dried fruits and chocolate Brazil nuts. Earthy coffee and barky spices nestle beneath. Finish: Rich oak, cinnamon, and liquorice join candied fruit and caramelised nuts.

2023 Domaine Moreau-Naudet ChablisChablis, FRANCE$110. 00Bottle$1320.00 DozenClosure: Diam CorkFounded in the 1950s and now led by Virginie Moreau, this long-established Chablis estate has built a reputation for wines of purity, depth and precision. Virginie continues the legacy of her late husband Stéphane, who steered the domaine toward organic farming, indigenous fermentations and long lees ageing in a mix of stainless steel and neutral oak. The vineyards, centred around Préhy, Courgis and Chablis itself, are managed by hand and cropped at modest yields to capture the tension and minerality that define the region’s greatest sites. Moreau-Naudet's wines are recognised for their textural weight, unforced detail and faithful reflection of terroir, aligning them with the classic, artisanal style of Chablis.
Sourced mainly from 20-30 year old vines in Préhy and Courgis, along with parcels in Chablis and Chichée, this wine sets the tone for the domaine. The fruit was pressed gently over several hours and fermented with natural yeasts before resting for around 20 months on lees, mostly in stainless steel. The approach is patient and traditional, favouring texture, clarity and a subtle saline edge that marks the Moreau-Naudet style.

Derived from three different locations, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis Village opens in the glass to reveal aromas of grapefruit zest, acacia and flint. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, tangy and textural, concluding with a precise, delicately sapid finish. Similarly to the Petit Chablis, it’s vinified entirely in tank.

From a 60-year-old parcel on the ridge between Montmains and Vosgros, Les Pargues shares the same south-facing exposure as several Premier Cru sites. Historically considered of Premier Cru standing, the lieu-dit produces wines of depth and minerality from its thin, stony soils. Moreau's 1.8-hectare holding yields only 15-25 hl/ha, and the wine is partly fermented in older barrels (around 30%). The result is a layered, saline expression that consistently outperforms its appellation.

Issuing from three parcels of over 60-year-old vines, amounting to 1.8 hectares, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis Pargues Vieilles Vignes sees 30% of maturation in used oak, with the remainder matured in tank. Offering notes of pear, honeysuckle and iodine, it’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated and inviting, laden with vibrant acidity and concluding with a delicately chalky finish.

Situated in the cooler, high-altitude south-west sector of Chablis, Beauregard occupies steep slopes with shallow clay over marl. Virginie replanted the site in 2001 using massal selections from prized vines, and now the parcel is sufficiently mature to carry real weight. This Premier Cru is vinified using solely stainless steel, allowing the tension and limestone expression of the site to remain front and centre.
Other Reviews....
From a 0.16-hectare parcel of 25-year-old-vines and vinified entirely in tank, 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Beauregard is only the second edition Moreau has produced. Facing south but with a steep 40% incline, it has delivered a beautifully lively wine that unfurls to reveal notions of white flowers, grapefruit zest and green apple. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, bright and incisive, with considerable energy and cut, concluding with a sapid finish. With just 12.5% alcohol, it’s the lowest level among premiers crus in the range this year.

Vaillons is one of Moreau-Naudet's anchor crus, drawing from Les Epinottes, Roncières and Sécher (the latter notably old vines). The wine is fermented and aged in a mix of tank and seasoned oak, including large 600-litre barrels, with each parcel handled separately before blending. In this way the vintage's freshness, richness and site variation all contribute to Vaillons' characteristic breadth and back-bone.
Other Reviews....
Sourced from 60- to 77-year-old vines in four of this premier cru's climats, including Séchet, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons is vinified 70% in tank, with the remainder in oak (old 228-liter barrels and a few 600-liter foudres). Opening from the glass with an expressive bouquet of tangerine zest, white flowers, pear and oyster shell, it’s followed by a medium to full-bodied palate with ample chalky extract and a saline finish. It’s broader than Beauregard but simultaneously racier than Montmains.

Forêts is part of the Montmains slope, and Moreau owns two plots totalling nearly two hectares. One parcel sits adjacent to Dauvissat's older vines, the other next to Raveneau's holdings, giving exposure to some of the region's most respected terroirs. Fermentation and ageing combine both steel and used oak (approximately 30 percent), and the wine is allowed to mature for two years. This cuvée is a pure statement of terroir with a mineral drive and layered structure.
Other Reviews....
Vinified in a combination of used oak (30%) and stainless steel, the 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Forêts is one of the highlights from Moreau-Naudet’s portfolio this year, beautifully exemplifying the classical Chablisien character. Wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of beeswax, orange zest and pear, mingling with oyster shell, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and tense, with vibrant acidity and excellent cut. It concludes with a pure, chalky finish. Virginie Moreau admits that in recent years she has given a slight preference to Forêts over the expressiveness of Vaillons. Readers will be able to make their own conclusions, as both wines come warmly recommended.

In the Chapelot section of Montée de Tonnerre, directly across from the Blanchots Grand Cru, Moreau farms just over one hectare split across older (50-year) and more recently replanted vines. The vineyard's sandy and rocky topsoils over Kimmeridgian limestone lend this wine a core of mineral austerity. Elevage mirrors that of the other premiers (long time on lees, mixed vessels), giving this wine both concentration and the potential for evolution.
Other Reviews....
With 12.5% alcohol, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is another success this year, soaring from the glass with a bouquet of beeswax, honeysuckle and crisp orchard fruit. Matured in a combination of old wood (30%) and tank, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated yet with good tension and structured around racy acids, with ample chalky extract and a long, sapid finish. It derives from a parcel just next to Raveneau’s.

Set in the rugged hills of central Sicily's Caltanissetta province, Lamoresca is the home and passion project of Filippo Rizzo, whose organically farmed vineyards sit on ancient clay-limestone soils at around 450 metres altitude. The wines capture the raw, untamed beauty of inland Sicily, balancing generosity with freshness and a striking sense of place. Rizzo's thoughtful, low-intervention approach has made Lamoresca one of the island's most characterful and expressive small estates.
A blend of 70% Nero d’Avola, 25% Frappato and 5% Moscato, the 2024 Rosato continues to bridge the gap between serious structure and easy drinkability. The mix of red and white grapes brings both depth and lift; the Nero d’Avola providing grip and savour, Frappato lending bright, red-fruited energy, and Moscato adding a gentle aromatic twist. It's a vivid and textural rosato that perfectly captures Lamoresca's earthy, vibrant personality.

Although now a single malt with its own brand, the majority of the whisky made at Balblair still goes towards the Blended Scotch industry. Clear worts, long fermentation in wooden washbacks, and distillation in small, stumpy stills produces a richly fruity new make character alongside a sulphury/meaty note. The outturn for this indie release was 350 bottles from a first-fill bourbon barrel. The label features a character from Boutique-y's original Balblair label that took inspiration from the film 'The Angel's Share', which was shot at the distillery. 45.8% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Overall, a very nice whisky. Definitely on the ripe, fruity side and very pleasing. This one has a fruit basket from the garden, with the fruit already fallen from the tree and the bees feasting on it. You won't find much more, but it's perfectly adequate and enriches my whisky heaven greatly. A few percent more would suit it well. The nose is its great strength. Highly recommended. - whiskybase.com
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Fruity, tropical notes of banana bread, foam banana sweeties, vanilla custard, Tarte Tatin. Palate: Sweet, creamy malt, white chocolate buttons, vanilla cream and sweet cinnamon with a touch of green banana beneath. Finish: Creamy vanilla and soft, sweet fruits linger, with a touch of herbaceous barley and a pinch of peppercorn heat.
- Sullivans Cove Single Cask TD0278 American Oak 16 Year Old Single Malt Australian Whisky (700ml)Tasmania, AUSTRALIA$799. 00Bottle$9588.00 DozenABV: 46.1%
Matured in American oak for 16 years, this single cask release had an outturn of 175 bottles at 46.1% Alc./Vol. These bottlings show the consistency of house character when matured in a controlled, familiar cask type, typically offering notes of vanilla, stone fruit and soft oak spice. Non chill filtered.
From early bottlings that were sometimes awkward and experimental, Sullivan’s Cove has emerged as one of the top whisky producers in the Southern hemisphere. Founded in 1994, Patrick Macguire joined the company five years later as Head Distiller, spearheading a new bottle design and refining the portfolio. By 2007, the distillery gained international recognition with their American Oak winning Liquid Gold (95/100) in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible. Even greater praise was to follow, with the title of World’s Best Single Malt at the prestigious World Whiskies Awards in London in 2014. In 2016 the distilllery was sold, but the core range has persisted (American Oak, French Oak and Double Cask. For collectors, a special single cask range includes older age statements and cask strength expressions). Thirty years on, Sullivans Cove's output is better than ever, affirmed by a meticulous new distillery and significantly bigger production to meet global demand. The majority of the whiskies are aged in either 300L French oak ex-tawny barrels or 200L American oak ex-bourbon barrels and generally bottled between 6 and 9 years.
- That Boutique-y Whisky Company Campbeltown 8 Year Old Cask Strength Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (500ml) - Batch 4Campbeltown, SCOTLAND$114. 99Bottle$1379.88 DozenABV: 52.3%
Blended malts from Campbeltown are trending. The style and quality of the distillates means they're invariably very tasty drams (Springbank's own Campbeltown Loch is a case in point). Adorned with the ominous spectacle of a meteor strike on its label, this edition was bottled for the End of the World series by the reputable indie, That Boutique-y Whisky Company. 454 bottles were drawn from a first-fill bourbon barrel at 52.3% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... The first nose is a smooth pleasant bourbon. More like Lowland than Campbelltown. Grass, hay, lemon, a little lime honey. The more one breathes, the more alcohol spices. Breathing in a bit of cork + cellar dampness + oak. The taste is sweet, very drinkable hay-grass, The finish is medium - short. It's surprising for this strength. Although there is wax in the taste on the back of the tongue, rounded by oak. Quite a nice blend, but definitely not Campbelltown style. - whiskybase.com
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Crisp apple and biscuity malt cushion soft waves of oily, coastal smoke. Preserved lemon and black pepper follow, with hints of floral garden herbs. Palate: Big rich layers of roasted barley and toasted oats join cider apples and subtly tarry smoke. Finish: Charred oak, barky cinnamon, a touch of clove, stewed tea, and dried herbs.
- That Boutique-y Whisky Company Dalmunach 7 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (500ml) - Batch 1Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 48.5%
Sourced from a host of bourbon and oloroso octave casks, this youthful Dalmunach is another in Boutiquey's 'End of the World' series. The label depicts an apocalyptic scenario triggered by an AI malfunction. Behold the encroaching cataclysm! Batch 1 is a release of 453 bottles at 48.5% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Taste is bready, salty and a bit hot (but not annoyingly so), with gentle subtle notes of salty lime. Salted crust sourdough. That quite literal barley huskiness reminds me of The Glenlivet. Faint orangey note. Just hinting at starting to pick up some complexity. It’s a decent whisky. A couple more years and some good casks and we’d have a solid Speyside whisky on our hands. Very promising. - whiskybase.com
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Roasted malt, soft stone fruits, and overripe orchard fruits open the way for trickles of honey, lemon and lime marmalade, and peppercorns. Palate: The zesty citrus from the nose carries through, joined by prunes, salted papaya, and toasted coconut, with waves of creamy oaken vanilla throughout. Finish: Toasted oak, vanilla, a smidge of dried chilli flake heat.
