Macduff, a seaside distillery on the Moray Firth, produces a nutty, subtly sulphury spirit shaped by its distinctive stills. Three years finishing in a Bajan rum cask from the West Indies Rum Distillery results in a single cask that's approachable and lively, with a touch of maritime charm. Supple, rounded and well balanced at natural strength, though some heat and spice assert at the finish alongside a tart berry character. It is relatively simple for a whisky of this age, however the overall effect is pleasing. The emphasis remains on cereals and malt, becoming fruitier and a little tropical with water. 189 bottles produced. 54.3% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the producers... Nose: Sweet syrup, ripe mango and caramelised coconut. Palate: Juicy red berries, raspberry marzipan and gentle spice. Finish: Lingering sweet fruitiness with a bright, candied lift.
