Glenfiddich Grand Yozakura 29 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

One of the more recent releases from Glenfiddich's Grand series, the Yozakura is a mature 'Fiddich, which was then finished for 6 months in ex-Awamori rice spirit casks from Okinawa. Reportedly the first Scottish single malt to undergo such a process. Not only that, but there is far less Awamori matured in oak than in the traditional storage medium of claypots. Awamori is a rice spirit distilled from long-grain rice specifically in Okinawa. The Koji (think rice 'starter') is also locally sourced. A method and recipe borderline unchanged for over 500 years. Awamori has a similar flavour profile to Sake but with a much fuller and more intense character, from being a spirit as opposed to a brewed beverage, as well as a savoury component. As such, there is a more recognisable impact on whisky aged in ex-Awamori oak as opposed to Sake or Mizunara finish. This is definitely a whisky release for the history books and a collector's opportunity not to be missed, with only 1500 bottles produced. Very rare. 45.1% Alc./Vol.
