2022 Nicks Secret JH FUT McLaren Vale Shiraz

From a small but highly regarded McLaren Vale estate, this is the 31st release of this wine which was first made in 1984. Sourced from a single vineyard planted in 1910, these 100 plus year old vines have delivered a rich, full bodied style of Shiraz that has a robust yet opulent feel. Maturation took place in a combination of French and American oak barrels for a period of 24 months.

Dense inky black heart with a very deep dark red black tinged hue. Ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate aromas engulf the nostrils followed by complimenting notes of spicy vanillin oak, earthy fennel and pepper. Rich, bold and lavishly proportioned, the full bodied palate is swamped with blackberry, liquorice, vanillin oak and fennel flavours. Earthy dark chocolate and spice elements linger underneath. Robust yet opulent in its feel with a firmly built tannin structure and fresh acidity supporting the sumptuous fruit. Concentrated, deep and powerful it finishes long and luxurious yet sturdy.

Richly fruited with stylish complexity, the wine shows dark fruit intensity, smoked game, star anise, and vanillin oak characters on the nose. The palate displays excellent weight and a plump mouthfeel, wonderfully supported by layers of polished tannins, finishing with structure and persistence. At its best: now to 2037.
