Mery Melrose The Old Alliance Tourbe (Peated) Single Malt French Whisky (700ml)

Led by François Méry, a fourth-generation viticulturist, Maison Méry-Melrose is an independent organic vineyard, distillery and winery in the heart of the Grande Champagne region of Cognac. 'Tourbe' (meaning 'peat' in French) is the smokey counterpart to the distillery's Old Alliance Classic single malt. After distillation the whisky spends five years in casks that previously contained Islay's legendary Laphroaig. That follows with a secondary maturation in 10-year-old Pineau des Charentes casks. The result is a very gently peated expression with deliciously chewy, chocolatey malt depths and a mere hint of the coast, the rich fruity roundness of the Pineau carrying the finish. 46% Alc./Vol. 1000 bottles produced.
