- Four Pillars Distiller Series 01 Cousin Vera's Gin (700ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 42.8%Four Pillars' choice for the first of their 'Collaborative Distiller Series' is Santamania Destileria Urbana in Spain. The two have a lot in common (their stills, commitment to craft distilling and innovation). Four Pillars have created a Yarra-style Spanish gin in their Wilma and Jude stills and named it 'Cousin Vera’s' as a tribute to Wilma’s transcontinental cousin. More than just a name, it brings together Spanish botanicals (purchased in Madrid) and native Australian ones with a neutral Australian grape spirit base. According to Four Pillars, the aromatics are bright, savoury and clean with a slight citrus spike. Olive leaf, fresh rosemary and crushed coriander sit above a solid base of juniper. The savoury notes carry on to the palate and are supported by pine needles, white pepper and a textural almond note. 42.8% Alc./Vol. Very small allocation. These limited editions tend to sell apace so grab a bottle sooner than later.

Four Pillars Barrel Aged Gin (700ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 43.8%Note,:batch numbers are subject to change. If you'd like to know the current batch number on our shelves, please contact us. Tasting note: [BATCH 4 tasted] Pale straw gold. Appealing freshness to the bouquet with piney-juniper, sweet oregano, sage and lemon cough lozenge over a subtle vanilla / smokey clove base note. Light and silky entry with early juniper followed by herbal notes - sage and tarragon in particular. More fruit lozenge-like to finish, fading dry, gently peppery and medium long. Marks a subtle change in trajectory from previous batches, with no compromise on quality. 43.8% Alc./Vol. [BATCH 2]...Overall superb and with the balance improved on the first release; some salivating lemon barley sugar moments at the finish round off a beautifully executed barrel-aged statement. Undisputedly one of Australia's very best Gin producers. First tasted : [BATCH 1] Brilliant clarity in the pale straw gold appearance. Lifted opening scents of lemongrass, pine and juniper; more lemon-barley sugar like in the second pass, retaining good freshness through to an unusual salted lime, lemon sorbet, tarragon and coriander profile finishing vibrant, peppery and dry. Fascinating. 90 points Other reviews... Barrel ageing is nothing new in the spirits business, after all it’s how whiskeys and brandies get their depth, colour and character. In the gin world, the US has been barrel-ageing gin for a few years, while in Australia we have Ginnifer Barrel-Aged Gin from Western Australia and Kangeroo Island Spirits also have a barrel aged gin. Four Pillars have “rested” their gin for 6 months in French oak and created a blend using a solera system (the gin is blended from different barrels of varying ages). The result is a gin with a distinct honey colour and an ABV of 43.8%! The orange aroma so prominent in the Rare Dry in hasn’t survived the ageing process, but instead there is a different sweetness altogether, reminiscent of an Old Tom style, but it finishes on spicy, warm notes. I could also taste a connection with the maltier Genever. The gin botanicals have been blended and rounded into another drink entirely, so it’s silly to compare the original with the barrel aged. And that’s the point I guess. Expanding the gin category and pushing the boundaries of what gin should and could be. Over ice it is smooth and easy to drink and I made a very fine Martinez with Four Pillars Barrel Aged Gin... - http://theginqueen.com/ -

Four Pillars Bartender Series Modern Australian Gin (700ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 45%This is number 2 in the Bartender Series.
Four Pillars worked with QANTAS and the Rockpool mixology team to create an Asian-inspired Modern Australian style. The bartenders were aiming for a gin with nice spicy complexity and mixability – something to create a tasty G&T, or classic dry martini. Plus, with all that spice it also makes a spot-on Red Snapper. Red and green Szechuan give it a lovely warm mouthfeel while the macadamia nuts give it softness and an almost creamy palate. Fresh Rose Glow apples, tangelos, grapefruit peel and dry native quandong add fruity notes. Tasting note: Clear. Spicy feel to the bouquet offering lifted scents of peppercorn and coriander seed over fresh juniper and citrus. A full bodied, creamy, oily textured gin suggesting flavours of green cardamom, juniper and liquorice root with intensifying peppers towards the finish. Ends, dry, warming, vibrant, vaguely herbal with hints of anise, lemon peel and orris root through the aftertaste. Will make great Bloody Marys. 45% Alc./Vol. - Four Pillars 2018 Australian Christmas Gin (700ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 43.8%
Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such has some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product not pictured.
The Four Pillar's Christmas gins are becoming something of an Aussie tradition.
As with previous editions, Cam Mackenzie distills Christmas puddings (made to his mother Wilma's 1968 recipe) with juniper, cinnamon, star anise, coriander and angelica. (Each year Wilma would make her puds on Victoria Derby Day, while the rest of the family listened to the races. To this day, the smell of the house over Christmas cup weekend remains one of Cam's great childhood memories).A portion of Four Pillar's regular gin is barrel aged in a couple of 125-year-old ex-William Grant scotch whisky barrels that had previously stored Rutherglen Muscat for 80 years. Cam then blends this with the Christmas Pudding gin, and to finish he adds a slight tweak of Rutherglen Classic Muscat to round out the palate. There's also a touch of Four Pillar's own muscat that has been sitting in barrels which previously aged Pedro Ximenez. More than ever, it smells like gin and tastes like Christmas!
In 2018, Melbourne artist Stephen Baker's work 'Basking in the Sun' adorns the label, channelling all that's typical about a hot Aussie Christmas: sunbaking by the pool while listening to the cricket on the radio. 43.8% Alc./Vol.

Four Pillars Dry Island Gin (700ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 42.8%An international collaboration in gin that combines the talents of Jon Hillgren (Founder and Master Distiller, Hernö Gin) and Cameron Mackenzie (Founder and Distiller, Four Pillars Gin). The pair have created a one-off embodying the best of both countries, distilling with juniper, coriander, river mint, roasted wattleseed, strawberry gum, lemon myrtle, and fresh lemons plus added meadowsweet from Sweden. A genuine limited addition, so stocks won't last long. Tasting note: Crystal clear. Big bouquet; a burst of citrus followed by coriander seed, curry leaf, white pepper and unusual herbal / grassy notes (meadowsweet?) Fresh, full bodied, spicy attack includes flavours of juniper, coriander, peppermint and lemon verbena. Warming, herbal, vibrant and long to finish with ripe lemon and pepper through the aftertaste. A zesty London Dry style recommended for Martinis or in a Golden Bijou. 42.8% Alc./Vol. - Four Pillars Experimental Series 2016 Australian Christmas Gin (700ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$120. 00Bottle$1440.00 DozenABV: 43.8%A couple of years ago, Four Pillars founder, Cameron McKenzie distilled some Christmas puddings, putting them in the botanical basket and distilling juniper, cinnamon, star anise, coriander and angelica over the top. He was also working on a gin aged in a couple of barrels that had stored Rutherglen Muscat for 80 years, so he blended this with the Christmas Pudding gin and to finish, included a slight tweak of Rutherglen Classic Muscat to round out the palate and add a touch of richness. The result smells like gin and tastes like Christmas! Sip it neat (it’s dangerously drinkable), make a Christmas Martinez, pour over your pudding or add it to eggnog. 43.8% Alc./Vol.
- Four Pillars The Kyoto Distillery Changing Seasons Limited Release Gin (700ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$84. 99Bottle$1019.88 DozenABV: 43.8%Four Pillars' third Distiller Series Gin released in Autumn 2020 showcases classic Japanese flavours and Australian botanicals. They partnered with fellow IWSC Gin Producers of the Year, 'The Kyoto Distillery', taking the unique seasonal botanicals from Australia and Japan to create a gin that drinks brilliantly in all weathers and seasons. The result has big bright aromas of pine needle, green citrus from yuzu and desert lime, and light green tea. The quandong and kinmokusei flowers add a fruity flavour and the texture is driven by hinoki, red pine and dense juniper. Recommended in a G&T with honeydew. Limited allocation. 43.8% Alc./Vol.
- Four Pillars Chardonnay Barrel Gin (500ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$84. 99Bottle$1019.88 DozenABV: 43.8%
Limited to one bottle per customer.
This is the seventh solera release from Four Pillars' original Chardonnay barrel solera. These barrels were originally used for maturing Yarra Valley Chardonnay for six to eight years prior to being filled with Rare Dry Gin. Originally filled on Christmas Eve 2013 and never fully emptied, the solera has grown from two barrels to nine, and this latest release has had a full year in barrel. The botanical oils have developed and changed dramatically, whilst still remaining distinctively gin. The juniper base has become resiny in texture, while the spices show developed intensity and fragrance. As with previous releases the preserved ginger character (thanks to the cardamom) is amazing and sits nicely with crushed coriander and preserved citrus notes. The oak continues to contribute to colour and sweetness, weight and texture. Four Pillars decided to bottle this in a 500mL format as in their experience, people tend to go through barrel aged gins a bit slower, as they're more of a sipping product. This is a balanced, super sippable drink. Enjoy it neat or on the rocks - it’s delicious over one large ice cube with a drop of honey and a small sprig of rosemary. - Four Pillars 2017 Australian Christmas Gin (700ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 43.8%
When Four Pillars founder, Cameron McKenzie was growing up, his late mum, Wilma would make Christmas Puddings on Derby Day while the rest of the family watched the races. So now each year, on Derby Day, Cam distills Christmas puddings by putting them in the botanical basket and distilling a base of juniper, cinnamon, star anise, coriander seed and angelica over the top of them.
Four Pillars also now have gin ageing in several 100+ year old Muscat barrels, including two 125-year-old ex-William Grants whisky barrels that, prior to arriving at Healesville, stored Rutherglen Muscat for 80 years. Cam blends this gin with the Christmas pudding gin and to finish adds a slight tweak of Classic Rutherglen Muscat to round out the palate and add a touch of richness. For the 2017 release he also added a small amount of Muscat that's been maturing at the distillery in old puncheons that used to hold aged Pedro Ximenez in the Barossa Valley, so this year the gin might be even a little bit richer!
More than ever, the result smells like gin and tastes like Christmas. Aromatics of classic juniper and a hint of cinnamon, backed up with a rich, luscious palate with a hint of sweetness from the Muscat and richness from the extended barrel ageing. Sip it neat (it’s dangerously drinkable), make a Christmas Martinez, pour over your pudding or add it to eggnog. As usual, stocks are limited so be quick on the draw to grab some of this! 43.8% Alc./Vol
- Four Pillars 2019 Australian Christmas Gin (700ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 43.8%
Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such has some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product not pictured.
As with previous editions, Four Pillars Christmas Gin starts by distilling Christmas puddings. The gin is then aged in Muscat barrels and a slight tweak of Muscat is added to finish. What you get are aromatics of classic juniper and a hint of cinnamon, backed up with a rich, luscious palate. There's a mild sweetness from the Muscat and extended barrel ageing too. More than ever, it smells like gin and tastes like Christmas! Sip it on ice (it’s dangerously drinkable), mix it with ginger ale or beer, or try it in some great cocktails like this Christmas Cobbler. 43.8% Alc./Vol. - Four Pillars Sherry Cask Gin (500ml)Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$94. 99Bottle$1139.88 DozenABV: 43.8%
This represents a very limited parcel of barrel aged gin from Four Pillars' sherry cask solera. Composed of 42 ex-sherry barrels, stacked three rows high in an arrangement behind the stills, these vary in age from 15 to 35 years old. The barrels were filled more than a year ago, and this is the first solera release taken only from the bottom row of barrels. True to a traditional solera system, the barrels are never emptied - a small portion from each barrel is taken out, which is then replenished from the row above. Fresh gin is only ever put into the top row of barrels.
This is a rich, intense and layered barrel aged gin. Once again, the botanical oils have developed and changed in barrel. The juniper/ pine oil character underpins some amazing complexity. The residual sherry character has integrated beautifully with the deeper cassia and star anise flavours. Think dried fruits and nuts. The addition of a tiny bit of Spanish Amontillado sherry has added some length and sweetness to the final gin.
Four Pillars decided to bottle this in a 500mL format as in their experience, people tend to go through barrel aged gins a bit slower, as they're more of a sipping product. Try it neat over ice, or try it in a Tuxedo, a classic cocktail made with gin, Sherry and orange bitters.

Funky Pump London Dry Gin (500ml)AUSTRIA$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 45%Produced in the Austrian Alpine valley of Lechtal at the Lechtaler Haussegen Distillery. Mario Huber is better known for his fine brandies, however he's now ventured into gin. It took him more than a year before he perfected the final result, which is made using centuries-old techniques and local botanicals macerated in grain spirit. While the ingredients aren't disclosed, it reportedly strikes a nice balance between fruity-floral-herbal notes. Very distinctively packaged in a stand-out bright blue bottle and bold screw cap resembling a gas bottle top or tap handle. Tasting note: Clear. Lovely integration of Indian spices through the juniper and bright citrus notes – a touch of mint and lemon thyme too. A medium bodied gin with attractive lemon gelato, light juniper and chamomile flavours. Very clean, tangy, warming and peel-like to finish. 45% Alc./Vol. - G Vine Nouaison Small Batch Gin (700ml)Cognac, FRANCE$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 43.9%
G'Vine Nouaison employs nine botanicals including nutmeg, cubeb berries, ginger roots, liquorice, lime, juniper berries, corriander, cassia bark and green grape flower. The botanicals are infused over a two to five day process and distilled in the grape neutral spirit. Small liquor stills are utilized to insure the best quintessence. A fifth and final distillation: the green grape flowers essence, the Ugni Blanc neutral spirit and the botanical spirits are blended in perfect proportion and copper pot distilled one last time for a complete marriage.
Nouaison is one of two aromatic gins available from G'vine. This version approaches a London-Dry style with Juniper becoming a prominant feature along with a higher ABV at 43.9%.
Other reviews: Clear. Intense aromas of cinnamon bark, candied lemon peels, almond bark, and floral juniper follow through on a round, silky entry to a bold dry-yet-fruity medium-full body with with menthol, pine resin, anise, and mineral oil flourishes. - G Vine Floraison Small Batch Gin (700ml)Cognac, FRANCE$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 40%
G’Vine is a unique, ultra-premium Gin crafted by Jean Sébastien Robicquet and Bruno de Reilhac, the proprietors, lead oenologists and master distillers of EuroWineGate in the French region of Cognac. It represents an elegant recreation of a cocktail favourite that bridges the gap from Gin to flavoured vodkas by marrying age-old distillation and infusion practices with the introduction of the rare green grape flower.
Once a year, in mid-June, the green grape flowers in Cognac blossom to life. The flower exists for only a short time before maturing into grape berries and, in this succulent state, forms the infusion for G’Vine Gin. The spirit base for the G’Vine infusion process is also unique to the Gin family. Cognac is home to the centuries-old Ugni Blanc grape. In September of each year, the Ugni Blanc fruit is harvested and immediately pressed and converted to wine. The resulting spirit is distilled four times producing a neutral grape spirit. Unlike the traditional grain spirit associated with Gin production, the Ugni Blanc grape spirit tends to be smoother with a heady body and aroma.
G'Vine Floraison employs nine botanicals including ginger root, liquorice, green cardamom, cassia bark, coriander, juniper berries, cubeb berries, nutmeg and lime.
Floraison is one of two aromatic gins available from G'vine. This version is smooth and floral with the juniper quite subdued compared to most gins on the market. A welcome change!
Tasting note: Clear. Bright aromas of cinnamon bark, dried cherry and tangerine, sandalwood, and vibrantly floral juniper follow through on a smooth, supple entry to a glycerous dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body with lovely layers of spice, mint and lemon verbena. Finishes with a long, lilting fade with a touch of floral talc, pistachio oil, and pink peppercorns. Deliciously refreshing on its own or in cocktails. 40% Alc./Vol.

Geranium Gin (700ml)UNITED KINGDOM$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 44%The Gin category has been expanding at a remarkable rate. Sophisticated marketing from relative newcomers and strong support from the bartending community have helped. Gin is no longer perceived as the tipple of eldery dames. Significant advances have also been made in flavour. Innovative efforts to incorporate non-traditional botanicals have reinvigorated the standard juniper heavy ‘London Dry’ profile, leading it in some surprising directions. G’Vine, Citadelle and Hendricks are some of the more successful examples of these. Here is another.
Part time bartender, Jay Hepburn (http://ohgo.sh/) gives a concise and enthusiastic introduction to Geranium Gin, “...the creation of Henrik Hammer, an accredited gin judge who had been pondering the use of geranium in gin for years, knowing that it is regularly combined with ingredients like juniper and angelica in the therapeutic world. Together with his chemist father they chemically analysed geranium and found that the significant oils were those like geraniol formate, rose oxide and citronelol which are present in most fruits, vegetables and spices – therefore theoretically making it a good mixer. The challenge was how to get the oils out of the geranium and in to the gin, but luckily Henrik’s father had worked with essential oils for the perfume and food industry in decades.
Using a small 5 litre still they set about experimenting with using geranium in the botanical mix. Having found the best ways to process and distill the geranium they turned to the Langley Distillery in Birmingham, England, who produce a number of famous gins including Martin Miller’s, to fine tune the recipe for full scale production. The final product is distilled using pure wheat grain alcohol and ten botanicals including juniper, geranium (which is harvested from Denmark and used fresh), lemon, coriander, cassia, orris root, angelica and liquorice which are steeped for 48 hours prior to distillation.
Tasting note: Clear with a silvery appearance. The aroma is true to London Dry style with classic piney/woody/peppery notes (juniper) combining with delicate citrus peel. The palate repeats the aromas; medium dry with good concentration. A peppercorn spiciness adds depth and contributes a gently warming mouthfeel. Finishes wonderfully clean and dry with a delicate rose petal, peppercorn and mineral fade. Nicely done. 44% Alc./Vol.

This release celebrates the fifth anniversary of the brand. Bottled at 55% ABV, it's intended to stand out in cocktails and mixed drinks. It employs the same 10 botanicals as the original version, however it's made using 20% less geranium to prevent it from becoming too perfumed at the higher alcoholic strength.

Gin differs from spirits such as rum, brandy and whisky in that whereas these derive their flavours from the raw materials from which they are distilled, gin is produced by removing the flavour and impurities by rectification and then imparting a new flavour (usually using a variety of botanicals) to the purified spirit by subsequent distillation in a pot or gin still.Gilbey's is a good everyday drinking/mixing gin for those with a limited budget. 37.2% alc./vol.

Gilt is made from a 100% malted barley base - so it could have been Scotch Whisky - distilled in the Vale of Leven near Loch Lomond. Distiller, Ricky Christie, comments, "We have centuries of distilling expertise and after all those years making Scotch there is no reason why we can't make an excellent gin". Funnily enough, Christie doesn't drink at all, having gone overboard in a past life, so he makes spirits using only his nose to guide him. Giniu Gin (700ml)Sardegna, ITALY$179. 99Bottle$2159.88 DozenABV: 40%This is the flagship gin from Silvio Carta, considered one of the most prestigious distilleries and wineries in Sardinia. Prized for its purity, Giniu is created exclusively from fresh juniper berries from the Sardinian coast. There are no other botanicals in the mix.
Tasting note: Clear with a creamy nose-feel offering moderate aromas of pine buds and hints of lemon mousse. A light to medium bodied style. Soft-textured flavours of crushed pine needles, dried herbs and white pepper. Drying juniper finish. Try it in a Negroni. 40% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Giniu Gin is surely one of the best Italian Gin you can find on the market, the general quality is better then the other gins, let’s admit it clearly, because you will never be able to reproduce this gin elsewhere... Juniper in Sardinia is easy to find, in its sub-species “Juniperus phoenicea” or in Italian “ginepro coccolone”, because of its big greenish “cones”, that have a different aromaticity from the juniper we’re all used to smell and love. Giniu’s Juniper smells fresher and “greener”, and it’s really inviting, a smell that everyone who has wandered in a Sardinian beach can remember. Traditionally, these “cones” were illegally distilled to produce something like a gin, called “giniu” locally, a spirit that was forgotten in recent times and that this brand wants to relive. The link with the territory is evident then, and it offers the chance to use some of the most interesting botanicals I ever smelled in a gin: myrtle, pistacia lentiscus or mastic, thyme, wild fennel, lemon and Salvia desoleana and juniper of course. They all come from Sardinia and you can tell it. - gintitaly.it

Balanced but also impressively intense at just 41%; entry is sedate, classic London Dry-like and creamy; mid palate adds an attractive lemon lift as well as hints of orange spice cake, dried herbs and cool mint, finishing with a zesty tang. A fabulous composition of diverse flavours. 41% Alc./Vol.
First tasted 2018... [20ml sample of batch 10] Aroma accents fresh juniper, followed by orris root, coriander, citrus peel and liquorice root - so pretty classic London Dry. Textural and intense beyond its relatively low ABV, with a delicious integration of juniper, pepper and floral / minty notes. Excellent definition and lift. Nicely done. 94 points

Granit Bavarian Gin (700ml)GERMANY$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 42%With over over 100 years of experience, Alte Hausbrennerei Penninger is considered the leading distiller of traditional Bavarian specialty spirits. Their organic gin is made from 22 botanicals, including native roots and herbs from the Bavarian Forest (such as melissa, bald-money and the gentian root) as well as classic gin spices and herbs including lemon, coriander and cardamom. Following distillation, it's matured for several months in traditional earthenware vats before being filtered through granite stones of varying sizes. The distiller's add: "For this we utilise the so-called "Oxy-Esterator". This originates from the 1960s and has taken pride of place in the Penninger Bavarian Schnaps Museum for over 20 years. This masterpiece of German engineering has been fully restored and filled with hand-cut granite stones. The granite used in the distilling process come from the historic granite cutter's town Hauzenberg, deep in the Bavarian Forest. This inspired us to name the gin GRANIT in honour of our use of local techniques and traditions".
Every bottle of Granit Gin comes with one of these granite stones attached. This can be placed in the freezer and used as an ice cube. This prevents the drink from becoming watered down and is guaranteed to be a conversation starter!

Gray Whale Gin (750ml)California, UNITED STATESReduced from $79.99$64. 99Bottle$779.88 DozenABV: 43%Other reviews... Gray Whale Gin is a Sonoma, California-made spirit designed to celebrate the California gray whale. Per the producer, Golden State Distillery, “the spirit takes the drinker on a gustatory journey up the Pacific coastline along the gray whales’ 12,000-mile migration pattern from Baja California through Mendocino (terminating in the Arctic).” The company donates 1% of annual sales to Oceana, a marine-centric conservation charity. Distilled from a base of corn, six California-grown botanicals are used to flavor the gin: juniper from Big Sur, kombu kelp from Mendocino, almonds from the Capay Valley, limes from Baja California, fir from Sonoma County, and mint from Santa Cruz. That’s a very unusual set of botanicals, so let’s see how it fares in the glass. On the nose, lime pops immediately — a gin & tonic sans the fizz. The juniper is restrained but present, though other aromas are elusive. The palate kicks off with a heavy earthiness — the kombu, perhaps, plus some of that juniper — before the lime returns. Sharp, perfumed, and edged with that pine needle/forest floor note, it’s not overly complex, but it’s the finish that feels most like something is missing. This could be a go-to gin for someone with a palate tuned to lime and evergreen notes, but here I miss the gentler citrus and layer of spices you get in a more classically designed gin. - drinkhacker.com
...Anise leads the mild aroma of this unusual gin made with “Californian botanicals,” including Baja limes, fir tree, sea kelp, mint and almonds. The palate is slick and slightly viscous, with a lemony, faintly saline note that winds into a brisk, cooling finish that suggests an ocean breeze. 90 points - wineenthusiast.com

Great Ocean Road Split Point Navy Strength Gin (700ml)Victoria, AUSTRALIA$110. 00Bottle$1320.00 DozenABV: 57%Named after a landmark nearby the distillery, 'Split Point' light house. The gin is a nod to the bold seafarers who navigated the beautiful but rugged coastline - bottled at high ABV with local coastal botanicals (salt bush, hop wattle, local honey and kelp) as well as the more traditional citrus and juniper. Tasting note: Powerful, penetrating juniper-heavy aromas repeat in an intense yet controlled attack of lemon-tea, sea-spray and coastal freshness, climaxing in a creamy deluge of rock-pool, crushed pine buds and tongue-staining green, sappy notes through the aftertaste. Potent and invigorating. 57% Alc./Vol. -

Great Southern Distillery Gin (700ml)Albany, Western Australia, AUSTRALIA$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 40%The Great Southern Distillery employs their neutral vodka as the base for this gin. They redistill the spirit in the presence of nine botanicals including Juniper Berries, Anise, Oris Root, Cardamom, Cinnamon bark, Coriander seed, Angelica Root and Fresh Lemon. 'Meen', a botanical native to the South West Coast of Western Australia is also infused.
Tasting note: Pours crystal clear. Good aromatic lift releases scents of pine needle, juniper and ripe lemon. Soft, round palate is semi sweet showing much more ripe lemon than juniper with a touch of peppermint evident. Very gently warming mouth feel. Concludes a little short followed by an aftertaste of juniper, anise and subtle spices. A relatively sweet and citrusy style that’s in the Old Tom mould more so than traditional London Dry. 40% Alc./Vol.

Great Southern Distillery Ginnifer Barrel Aged Gin (700ml)Albany, Western Australia, AUSTRALIAReduced from $99.99$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 49%A new spirit from the producers of Limeburner's Single Malt Whisky. This unusual Gin is the result of nine botanicals, including Meen, a native tree of the Southern Coast of Western Australia. Before bottling the spirit was matured in French oak barriques giving this Gin its golden tone.
Tasting note: Very pale gold colour with a water like hue. A juniper/aniseed top note mingles with heavier scents of fenugreek, chamomile, peppermint and hot peppers that penetrate deep into the nostrils. The medium dry, full bodied palate yields mild fennel and juniper flavours delivered through a slightly hot, prickly spirit. Very peppery on the back palate, in fact, the strong pepperiness throughout knocks the flavour profile out of balance. Concludes a little short with pepper and pine wood notes followed by a delicate juniper fade. For those who like it hot, consider this Gin’s equivalent to pepper Vodka. 49% Alc./Vol.

Half Hitch Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 40%A relatively new Gin label, launched in late 2014 by Mark Holdsworth, formerly of Barcardi. Produced in the old warehouse vaults of Camden Lock (a gin epicentre during the 18th century), the brand takes its name from the knot used to moor up barges along the Lock during the industrial era. Holdsworth's gin is unusual in that it's one of the few on the market that relies heavily on tea as a keynote. In fact, to our knowledge, Beefeater 24 and Gunpowder Gin are the only others like it. Holdsworth initially out-sourced a grain base spirit from Langleys and then added his own unique combination of botanicals. To maximise the flavour input from each, three individual, time intensive production methods are employed: copper pot distillation, vacuum distillation and hand crafted tinctures. Key ingredients are black tea, bergamot, wood, hay and pepper. Holdsworth is particularly enthusiastic about the single estate Malawian black tea, which is hand-blended with Calabrian bergamot sourced from ancient citrus groves in Southern Italy and synonymous with one of Britain’s most iconic tea flavours - Earl Grey. It adds a nice English twist. In 2016, Half Hitch acquired their own spirit still making this a long term project, so expect more expressions in the near future. Notes from the producer... On the nose you will discover lifting and aromatic notes of light citrus followed by spicy, fresh cracked pepper and juniper berry. On the palate, note tones of sweet orange, nutmeg and rich black tea before a long finish with lingering touches of cinnamon and fresh lemon zest. 40% Alc./Vol. Silver Medal 2015 International Wine & Spirits Competition. Hammer & Son Old English Gin (700ml)UNITED KINGDOMReduced from $89.99$59. 99Bottle$719.88 DozenABV: 44%Old English Gin is made from a 1783 recipe, distilling eleven botanicals in a John Dore copper pot still called 'Angela', the oldest pot still being used in England for gin today. By using recycled bottles, organic sealing and silk printed labels, all as they did back in 1783, the company has set about reinvigorating the way English Gin was made and distributed back in the day. It's guaranteed to catch the eye of any gin fanatic from across the bar! As for the style, this is slightly sweetened. Many people would place in the 'Old Tom' category.
Tasting note: Clear. Good lift with distinct piney juniper / lemon peel and white pepper aromatics. Aeration shifts the accent to orange peel. Rich and nicely rounded with a semi-sweet, creamy texture and broad strokes of juniper, pepper and lemon cough lozenge to finish. Concludes slightly drier, gently peppery with moderate vibrancy. Would lend itself to cocktails. 44% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Appearance: Crystal clear. Aroma: Classic musky, nutty angelica aromas of damp wood and mushrooms lead the nose with pine fresh juniper. Rubbery liquorice, cassia, earthy-clean hamster cage orris root and relatively faint citrus aromas. Taste: Superbly rounded palate with juniper just rising to the fore with the other 10 botanicals presented as a uniform front. The sugar content is hard to discern other than by the soft mouth feel. Aftertaste: Long, slightly hot pepper, lingering juniper finish with citrus notes more pronounced than on the palate or nose.

Hartshorn Pure Sheep Whey Gin (500ml) - White BottleTasmania, AUSTRALIA$46. 99Bottle$563.88 DozenABV: 40%Pure Gin is dominated by juniper (50%) and coriander (35%), enhanced with the bright zest of fresh oranges and subtle hints of angelica root, cassia bark, liquorice root, orris root plus other classic botanicals. In short, a traditional London Dry to rival industry giants while preserving the signature viscosity that sets Hartshorn apart. Our tasting found juniper and potpourri on the nose, set in a mineral and cream base; the palate equally soft, round and creamy, backed up by juniper, subtle pastis, citrus, pepper and dried herbs with an unexpectedly spicy finish. Standalone it's a fine gin with the mouthfeel and presence of a quality vodka, but the keynotes could easily get lost in mixing. Over-dilution tends to reduce the botanicals and accent the creaminess of the whey based spirit. 40% Alc./Vol.
We're serious about gin.
Distilleries both small and large from every continent on earth can now lay claim to a Gin. You could be cynical and suggest it's merely to maintain cash flow while more 'serious' barrel aged spirits mature. Gin is easy and cheap. After all, it's just flavoured vodka at the end of the day, right? That line of thinking misrepresents all this spirit can be in the hands of visionaries and fanatics. The freshest botanicals in high quality alcohol result in an exotic amalgam of accents and supporting notes that no white spirit can match. Perfumed complexity and bracing intensity are not the characteristics of every gin we taste - hence, it can't be that easy to achieve. From Navy Strength to organic to sloe gin, browse our range today. A long departure from the once "fuddy-duddy" association of the genre, Vickers, Gordon's and other ubiquitous brands are threatened to be swallowed in a giant yawn by the progressive, quality-savvy new-gin devotee. Trending classifications such as 'New Western' style (juniper evident but not dominant) are gaining prominence as are the use of indigenous botanicals and varied spirit bases, including non-grain. Barrel ageing is also gaining momentum. The vast improvement in quality has resulted in texture rich, neat/sipping friendly spirits. Yet, the traditional English and Dutch styles remain more relevant than ever in honouring the cocktail classics. Learn more today...
