An Outstanding Example of Rutherglen Muscat! All Saints Estate is one of Australia's original wineries, established in 1864, by two enterprising Scots, George Sutherland Smith and John Banks. The winery has fortified material up to 80 years old which form the basis of many blends.
Very deep walnut brown colour with deep olive, walnut hue - showing considerable bottle age. Superb nose of toffee, raisin, rancio, and raisin cake. Complex, mouthfilling, luscious palate. 'Cuesta' is a brand owned by the prestigious Sherry house, 'Lustau', produced and bottled from a selection of butts in the Lustau Bodega. The concept is to offer high quality sherries under a separate brand in markets where Lustau is already represented. Yet given the exceptional standard set by the Cuesta PX, one has to wonder whether they've shot themselves in the foot. Aged for a minimum of ten years, this superb solera is produced from sun dried Pedro Ximenez grapes.

A seriously good example of PX and an absolute steal at this direct import price.

Pours a viscous sienna brown colour with a deep green olive tinged hue. Potent scents of raisins, honey and Christmas cake engulfs the nostrils with hints of toffee, marmalade and walnut also present. Exceptionally concentrated and rich, a thick luscious dollop of raisin, honey and Christmas cake like flavours are draped across the palate with notions of marmalade, toffee and subtle dried nuts the back drop. Warm, mellow spirit with an oil like consistency to the mouthfeel. Long sweet, textured aftertaste. An ideal match with vanilla ice cream and Christmas pudding.

Vermouth is the most widely used aperitif. The first known branded vermouth was “Carpano” produced at Turin, Italy in 1786. This was a rich, sweet red style. Rosso, or red vermouth is traditionally made using red wine. Today however, virtually all red vermouth is produced using white wine and blended with caramel to receive its distinctive red or amber colour. This dark, more richly flavoured Italian variety is imperative in many cocktails, but can be drunk alone, with cassis or as an aperitif, or mixed with lemonade, tonic or orange juice.

Ingredients in Cinzano Rosso include marjoram, thyme, musk yarrow and an alpine herb called ‘Achillea Moscata.

The House of Cocchi (pronounced co-key) is a Torino winery known for an array of still, sparkling and fortified wines. In 2011 as part of Cocchi's 120th birthday celebrations, they revived their house vermouth, originally produced in 1891, resulting in the first genuine Vermouth di Torino (protected designation of origin). Botanicals include bitter orange peel, cocoa, ginger, rhubarb, grand wormwood, cinchona bark, sandalwood, musk, myrrh, nutmeg, and caramelised sugar which brings both sweetness and contributes to its copper-sienna brown colour. The nose offers moderate scents of cocoa and spiced citrus (blood orange?) making for a nuanced jaffa-like profile with a distant menthol / Alpine herb freshness that keeps the sugars muted. This is not a vermouth of extremes, rather, a light to medium bodied, gently bitter style (a more delicate expression than the likes of Antica Formula, which some find too easily overpowers cocktails). Citrus peel, raisin and sweet spice flavours come with a hint of sarsaparilla, the whole seamlessly integrated and beautifully balanced, ending soft and bittersweet with suggestions of quinine, tangy citrus zest and cocoa. One of the main attractions to this formula is its sheer mixability. It melts into whisky in a magical way, and probably just about anything else you care to throw at it. Use whenever a red, rosso, sweet, or Italian vermouth is called for. Enjoy it in a Manhattan, Martinez or Negroni - and of course, the quality is more than good enough to drink straight or over ice. First there was "Dry". Now there's "Extra Dry." Released in the year of Cocchi’s 130th anniversary, this classic-style vermouth is based on a Piedmontese recipe using local ingredients. The base wine is Cortese, the same grape used for Gavi DOCG. The Artemisia Absinthium is entirely harvested from the Piemonte mountains. The aromatic profile is characterized by Menta di Pancalieri, a local variety of peppermint, and lemon, traditionally used to garnish vermouth in the region. Other botanicals include angelica, coriander and cardamom for a fragrant and balanced character. This vermouth will enhance classic cocktails such as the Martini or the Bamboo (40ml Cocchi Extra Dry stirred with 40ml Dry sherry, garnished with lime zest or basil leaf), but it also shines when served with tonic water (elderflower tonic is the preferred choice) or simply sipped over ice. Tasting notes... Clear with a very pale green tinge. Moderate, Fino Sherry-like aromatics include yeasty, nutty notes with a hint of quince. The palate is again reminiscent of dry flor sherry, though heavier and with a slightly oily texture. Flavours of almond, dried apricot and flor yeast-like characteristics are evident. Magnificent colour displaying an impenetrable inky black core with an equally dense hue. Still a touch reticent the nose slowly opens to reveal alluring liquorice and confectionary scents which meld into a mix of morello cherry, well integrated spirit and spice notes. Rich, luscious morello cherry and liquorice flavours are backed by rugged, muscly tannins which lend firmness and structure for the long haul. Marzipan, infusions of vanilla and spice ensue. Exceptionally intense and powerful it finishes long, dense and robust.

The 2017 Vintage Port, not quite bottled when seen but the final blend, is a field blend (with typical grapes like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca) aged for approximately 20 months in used French oak. It comes in with 98 grams of residual sugar, a little drier on paper than its Taylor sibling this year. Sappy and sensational in flavor and fruit, this seemingly has moderate tannins around the edges on first taste, velvety texture and a long finish. Despite the first impression of moderation, there is plenty of power here. As it got some aeration, it showed nothing but power and closed down fairly hard. The combination of great fruit and fine structure makes this a potentially great Fonseca, but right now it is obviously immature and not showing everything it has. I'd recommend some patience here.

Picking began at Quinta do Panascal on September 6, the two other quintas in Pinhão that form the 2017 Fonseca Vintage Port, Cruzeiro and Santo António picked on 10 and 17 September respectively. One of the deepest, most opaque color amongst the new Port alumni, it has one of the most backward, almost recalcitrant noses that demands a lot of aeration. It gradually opens to reveal blackberry, melted tar, thyme, clove and violet aromas that are well defined, if maybe just missing the same breeding as Taylor’s. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is fresh and detailed, a slightly more structured Fonseca than expected, quite strict at first with good grip and a lightly spiced, precise finish. Powerful and long on the aftertaste, you can feel this Fonseca 60 seconds after the wine has exited. It deserves 10-15 years in bottle. Excellent, but patience required. The most enigmatic of the 2017 Vintage Ports. Total production is 8,100 cases.

Lovely full, ripe tannins mass in the mouth, well defined, with fresh berry fruit remerging on the broad, expansive finish.

Galway Pipe is named after Governor Sir Henry Galway, governor of South Australia from 1914 - 1920. Governor Galway was a frequent visitor to the Yalumba winery and on each visit he would conduct a tasting of the finest 'pipes' (500 litre Barrels) of port. Whichever pipe was most to his liking was inscribed with "Galway's Pipe" and the particular blend was used exclusively at Governor House.The many components of Galway Pipe have an average age of 12 years - the same average age the port has had since Galway's day. On the palate the wine has a high level of sweetness complemented by a relatively low pH and therefore a good level of fresh acidity. This results in a wine that has pronounced aged character but maintains a freshness and a long dry finish - avoiding any cloying character. Quality brandy spirit has added to the complexity on the palate and the wine has a high level of sweetness. 18.5% alcohol volume.

An elite, top-tier producer, famously named the 2025 Halliday Winery of the Year, Giant Steps' focus on single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay has consistently earned them rave reviews for elegance, purity and finesse. That same care and attention to detail has been applied in making an artisanal Vermouth. Hand harvested, certified organic Viognier grapes, whole bunch pressed, wild fermented in French oak and blended with a host of botanicals macerated separately in a distillate of the mother wine (with help of Four Pillars Distillery). Two styles of Vermouth are produced, but the Semi-Dry White is considered the best. Clean, crisp and refreshing, it resonates winemaking skill, being more akin to a structured dry white than many traditional European vermouths. Measured against bar standards like Noilly Prat, it's lighter, more elegant and fresher, accenting notes of lemon and lime zest, thyme and dried apricots, with a cooling character that finishes with a fine-tuned herbal bitterness; gentian, dried orange peel tang and hints of flor sherry. The discount is of the likes we've never seen in its category - and we may never see again. The quality means you can embrace it as a standalone drink, on the rocks with a twist of orange, or use it to create superb Martinis and modern cocktails like a white Negroni, Boulevardier or Aperol Spritz. Other reviews... a very accomplished and unique product in the range of vermouth’s available, and a thoughtful evolution on the original recipe that suits the current vogue for a grown-ups aperitif...The white version I became quite smitten with. Its like summer in a glass. On the nose its a lovely honeycomb aroma (reminded me of a ripe Marsanne wine actually). It is fuller on the palette than its sister, with a dry finish and you get a hint of citrus, a note of light bitterness at the end, very nicely integrated. It is not floral or spicy like Noilly Prat and is more akin to Dolin perhaps in weight + intensity of flavours. This makes a terrific Martini. If you like yours not so astringent, then this is ideal. You don’t need a dash of Orange Bitters and the semi sweetness rounds out of the cocktail and definitely doesn’t dominate several of the gins I tried. Tawny Port is always exciting, but if you can afford to splash out, go for a 20 Year Old. All the major houses make wonderful aged tawnies and this is always one of the best. Ethereal and mellow on the palate, it boasts flavours of toffee and caramel, burnt orange and raisins, dried plums, hazelnuts and a savoury hint of mushroom on the finish. Wonderful stuff!

People with little knowledge of Sherry could be forgiven for thinking that Harvey’s Bristol Cream was actually an English dairy product. Neither the name or the bottle evoke strong images of Spain and her glorious vineyards. There are of course, good reasons for the idiosyncrasies of Harvey’s, the world’s biggest selling sherry brand of all.

Around the turn of 19th century, the port of Bristol in Southwest England was a significant shipping town importing amongst other things, large quantities of sherry. One day, a French lady customer of John Harvey & Sons attended a sherry tasting at their Denmark Street premises in Bristol. There she tasted various samples of what was generically termed “Bristol Milk” – a sweet, rich style of sherry that had become extremely popular in England. She then inquired about another barrel of still richer, more luscious sherry. Upon tasting it, she was overwhelmed. She exclaimed “If that was the milk, then this must be the cream!” So Harvey’s Bristol Cream was born, John Harvey capitalising on her comment by registering it as the company's trademark.

So much for the name. The distinctive blue bottle is a more recent marketing quirk circa 1990. Bristol merchants used to have the exclusive import rights for Saxon Smalt which is used for glassmaking. Containing cobalt, this smalt when combined with British lead glass results in Bristol Blue, the colour we now see in the Harvey’s bottle. It is a symbolic connection with the brands origins, and from a marketing point of view serves as a point of difference on store shelves.
Made from Palomino and Pedro Ximenez grapes, Harvey’s Bristol Cream is fortified with young Jerez brandy. It is then aged and blended like a fino, i.e.- in a solera. This is unique for the area, as most other producers simply use vats. Harvey’s is a particularly full and rich style of sherry with an intense dried fruit/raisin character, a sweet palate and rich lingering finish. Enjoyable straight over ice.

The story behind this unusual wine dates back to the time of the Crusades. The island of Cyprus was then a favourite resting ground for Crusades returning from battle and later became a centre for the Knights of the Order of St.John. It was the members of this order who discovered a wine that was been produced in the Troodos Mountains. This wine they named Commanderie after their headquarters, finding it to be not only an excellent drink but also to possess therapeutic properties.

Estienne de Lusignan described Commandaria St.John in 1572 A.D., recording in his book “Descriptions of the island of Cyprus”: “There is a certain grapevine…which ripens at the end of July, whose grapes are not gathered until the end of September. They [the grapes] are put on the roofs the space of three days…then trodden and the pips and stalks removed before fermentation.”Commandaria St. John is then aged in large earthenware jars buried in the ground and fortified with grape brandy.

Named after the native duck found along the Murray River, this medium sweet style was originally produced by Mildara Wines in the early 1950s but ceased in 1998. Ahead of its 65th birthday, the Australian icon has been relaunched by two sherry advocates, Darren Rogers and Peter Stone.
“Our hope is that Chestnut Teal will continue to be appreciated as not only an icon of the Australian wine industry, but as a wonderful drink for any occasion,” Mr Stone said.

These extra years maturing in small oak casks, combined with six generations of port-making skills perfected by the McWilliam family since 1877, are what make Hanwood such a fine old port. Deep red colour with brown hues. The nose displays complex intense aged rancio characters. The palate is filled with rich fruit and aged integrated spirit. Good length with a mellow soft tannin finish. 18.5% alcohol volume.
