The super-affordable 2024 Clos Lojen comes from a year that continues the warm and dry conditions of 2022 and 2023 but with lower yields and very healthy grapes. It fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in open-top and well-seasoned 4,500-liter oak vats and matured in a combination of oak vats of different sizes—4,500-, 10,000- and 15,000-liter ones—for six months. Each plot was harvested at the right time, which seems to have increased precision in the cuvée, a fruit-driven, primary and juicy red with similar alcohol as in previous years, 12.5%, a pH of 3.6 and 5.7 grams of acidity. This is a lot more serious than a young and juicy red; it has fruit but with a complexity of flavors, a medium-bodied palate and very fine tannins. It's approachable and ideal with food, but it also has the potential to keep in bottle. It's a champion for quality/price, one to buy by the case. It has one of the lowest production volumes in recent times, 45,000 bottles. It was bottled between April and June 2025. Drink 2026-2030.

De Bortoli have been using amphora for some years now and here is a perfect example of what it can do with a wine. It was very much a handcrafted wine and was fermented and then matured in amphora clay pots for about 8 months. Something happens in this process which impacts the wine and gentle rose petals, and subtle earthy notes of Grenache. The palate is so seamlessly integrated with fine tannins, allowing the fruit to roll effortlessly towards a long, focused finish. We love this style of wine. Drink 2025-2033.

Hand picked from the Home vineyard, with vines dating back to 1984. Whole-bunch pressed and matured in French oak, 10% new, for 18 months. A tight wire of Buddha’s hand citrus, lemon gum oil and yellow peach fuzz leads the nose, followed by a flicker of toasted coconut and creamy oak dust. Quince and loquat notes weave through the profile. On the palate, it is total seduction, with acidity nestled into every crevice and undulating waves of citrus supported by orchard fruit. There’s a lacy, finely woven skin grip and a laser-like line of fruit that carries on and on. There is so much to unpack, yet you’ll find your glass empty far too quickly. A rich, creamy textured Chardonnay with a long mouth filling finish.

Nekeas was established by a number of generational growers in the late 1980’s. Hit by hard times, low grape prices and high labour costs they were forced to pull up most of most of their vines during the 1960’s. However, with winemaking still flowing through their veins a group of landholders made the decision to pool some of their resources, embarking on a project to plant new vineyards and build a modern production facility.
Fruit for the ‘El Rincon’ Chardonnay is sourced from vineyards with an elevation of 600-650m (one of the highest, coolest wine corners of Spain with huge diurnal temperature swings). Fermentation is spontaneous in top quality French oak followed by three months of aging on fine lees.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a subtle green tinged outskirts and watery hue. Pronounced aromas of ripe peach, honeycomb and bacon fat fill the nostrils followed by some crème brulee and spicy nougat like notes. Hand harvested, whole-bunch pressed and aged for 18 months in seasoned French oak. This is a wine that consistently delivers, while ageing at a glacial rate, almost beyond belief. At five years, this is showing Meyer lemon, cantaloupe and Alphonse mango skin. Mock orange blossoms, honeysuckle and struck sandstone flint. The palate curls into creamy candlenut and oatmeal, then circles back to its citrus and tropical fruit core. It's languid and slightly oily, persistent and long. A wine for rewiring your brain and taste buds on what great sauvignon can do. Drink by 2035.

Delicious red fruits with wonderful energy, muscular tannins and a chiselled feel carved across the long finish.

It's easy to underestimate the impact the wines of Mount Etna have had over the last 10 years. From near obscurity, to now being some of the most highly sought after wines of Italy, led in part from producers such as Tenuta delle Terre Nere. The winery is owned by the widely acclaimed Marco De Grazia who is one of the winemakers responsible for bringing the wines of Etna to prominence on the world stage.
The red wines of Etna, produced from predominantly Nerello Mascalese, are often compared to a variety marrying the traits of Nebbiolo and Pinot Noir. Terre Nere take their wines a step further than most, and highlight the cru vineyards of the region with wines made at varying altitudes, along with vines planted on the pure Ellittico lava flow terroir. These delicate, perfumed, and intense wines translate the soil and season like few other wines in the world, and with demand far outweighing supply they are now increasingly hard to secure.
Dark red core with black toned edges and a red to dark red hue. Fragrant red currant, red liquorice and Mediterranean herb scents sail out of the glass trailed by some volcanic rock, earthy incense and spice notes. Concentrated and richly fruited yet elegant, fresh and structured, the mid weighted palate is awash with juicy morello cherry, red currant and red liquorice flavours. Muscular tannins with infusions of crushed rock, Mediterranean herbs, subtle incense and spice lending further intrigue. Wonderfully energetic with a chiselled feel carved across the long, red fruited finish.

A mouth watering Soave detailed with delicious pear and red apple fruits.

The Monte Tondo vineyard can be found nestling in the gentle hills of Soave just a few kilometres from Verona on a slope overlooking the valley. Today it is 4th generation brother and sister team, Luca and Marta Magnabosco, who carry on their family’s passion for the land and its wines.
Twenty-five hectares of vineyards are situated on the best plots that the Soave zone can offer on predominately volcanic soils: Monte Tenda, Monte Foscarino and Monte Tondo. The wines produced, from 100% Garganaga, are intensely perfumed with an unmistakable Soave character somewhere between florals and fruitiness.
Brilliant water like core with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts. Pear, lime and red apple skin aromas leap out of the glass trailed by some quince and wet stone notes. Delicious pear and red apple fruits drive the palate with notions of lime, wet stone and minerals lining the back half. Nicely shaped mid palate feel with crisp acidity enlivening the long, mouth watering finish.

The one red that is different, produced with Monastrell grapes, is the 2024 Depaula, which for Juan António shows more varietal character this year, with notes he describes as tomato vine and balsamic. 2024 was very low yielding and ripeness was high, and the wines have more volume. This has 14% alcohol (a full 1% more than in 2023), a pH of 3.65 and 5.8 grams of acidity. The vines are getting older and show more nuance and balance each year. The grapes are from a vineyard he purchased in the village of Mahora. They fermented with 100% full clusters in 4,500-liter oak vats, where the wine matured. It's a little more serious, dark and earthy than the reds from other varieties, and it has elegant rusticity. The tannins are very fine, and the wine is approachable, but it has the seriousness the variety can have. Again, this overdelivers for the price. This is the last vintage that the wine will come from one single vineyard, as the new plantings came into production in 2025, which will add more freshness to the 2025 wine. 12,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2025. Drink 2026-2032.

Pitch black core with a vibrant red to dark red hue. Alluring aromas of dark plum, liquorice and violet intermix with flashes of blueberry, apricot, vanillin spice and peppered earth notes. This year's release sees a blend of 76/16/7/1% shiraz/grenache/mataro/viognier. Bright magenta/crimson with juicy red and dark plum fruits, blueberry and raspberry coulis. Hints of citrus blossom, medina spice, gingerbread, licorice, cured meats, turned earth and sage. A classic Rhone-style blend painted in Barossa colours: 53% Barossa Valley and 47% Eden Valley fruit with Shiraz leading the way (76%) plus 1% co-fermented Viognier, followed by Grenache (16%), Mataro (7%). Garnet in the glass, fragrant with blueish petals, violet to the fore, as well as crushed, fresh kitchen herbs and a distant note of freshly sawn timber; there’s only 10 months of 10% new French oak in the maturation which is plenty for this wine. Styled in the crunchy, juicy, red berry flavour spectrum, crimson plums between tart and softly ripe leading the fruit, bay and sage adding their herbal edge, the palate still has decent grip in the finish to suggest its capacity for excellent matching with anything juicy and red from the barbecue.

Another superb effort, the 2025 Soutard appears to rival the 2023 and 2022 rendition for the title of the finest wine this estate has produced to date. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries and plums mingled with hints of rose and iris, it's medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with lovely purity, refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish.

The 2025 Soutard takes all the qualities of this site and dials them up a few notches. Red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal and a kick of spice open first, framed by suave, silky tannins that add to an impression of finesse. All the elements are so well balanced. Drink 2028-2045.

    James Suckling

Engaging aromas where ripe plum and dark berry aromas are lifted by a streak of crunchy cranberry freshness. The palate shows a composed, mid-weight profile, never too high-toned, with integrated and unobtrusive tannins at this stage. I like the quiet precision to the structure, suggesting careful extraction and a respect for fruit purity. The élevage, with a measured use of oak, should gradually broaden the mid-palate and lend additional roundness, helping to knit the components together over time. Notably, the wine was served quite cool, which further emphasized its freshness and restraint, yet it still conveyed ample depth and underlying ripeness. Furthermore, the wine achieves a high degree of finesse and balance. Drink 2029-2045.

The 2025 La Tour Figeac is soft, open-knit and quite pretty. Cabernet Franc overtones lift a core of ripe Merlot fruit in a soft, understated Saint-Émilion. Dark heady scents on the nose, ripe blackcurrants with some dark chocolate touches. Quite a hands off style with lovely fruit purity and delicacy in terms of tannins and wood. A touch grippy on the finish with some cooling liquorice and stony aspects. Really well balanced and well delivered, harmonious with a lovely supple, bounce. Deep and concentrated but with no heaviness. This is really not trying to be something it can't. Fine delicate, compelling. One of the best EP samples I've tried from this estate. 3.7pH. The 2025 Bellefont-Belcier stands out once again as one of the highlights in the Vignobles K range. It offers a lively bouquet of cassis, mulberries and cherries mingled with spices and pencil lead. Clean fragrance on the nose, black fruit and wild purple flowers with some creamy chocolate and vanilla touches. Round and filling, but less fleshy than Les Hauts, more taught and streamlined with focus and bite to the Cab strawberry and black currant fruit – pure and precise – with a lick of liquorice, graphite, cedar, tobacco, cigar, salt, flint and clove spice. Serious but with charm. Mint, freshness, a real Pauillac wine with strength but not too muscular. Drink 2030-2046.

The 2025 Tour Saint Christophe, a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that matured in 20-hectoliter foudres, reveals aromas of mocha, spice, cocoa and violet. The 2025 Tour Saint Christophe is a stunner. Rich and explosive, the 2025 possesses remarkable depth and pure power. All the elements are so well balanced. Tour Saint Christophe is always a big wine, but the 2025 has an unusual level of finesse. Dark-toned fruit, leather, gravel, chocolate and dried herbs caress the palate. Following the old saying, “When life gives you lemons, make limoncello!”, Lost Pheonix Spirits has created a fusion of light, zesty, and sweet notes, with an upfront burst of refreshing lemon tang. The process is driven by a commitment to quality and precision at every stage — starting with the lemons. Large, premium local lemons — primarily from Riverland, occasionally Adelaide Hills, with a preference for Eureka lemons due to their vibrant aroma and flavour. Each lemon is hand-peeled and juiced. By avoiding automated methods, they keep the bitter pith out and the bright citrus character in. The peel is then macerated in high-strength spirit to draw out essential oils and natural colour — this becomes the heart of our limoncello. Meanwhile, the juice is frozen immediately to preserve its natural acidity and colour, with no need for preservatives. After maceration, all elements combine in carefully measured amounts for balance and consistency. Finally, the finished product is bottled and ready to be enjoyed. Every step is intentional, allowing the quality of the fruit and the integrity of the process to speak for itself. Enjoy chilled or in a Limoncello Spritz. 27% Alc./Vol.

The little-known Lonach label is an independent bottler closely associated with Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky Ltd. The brand is named after the Lonach Highland and Games in Strathdon, Scotland, paying tribute to the annual gathering and the march of the Highlanders, which appears to be depicted on the front label here. Distilled in 1972, three decades in wood has reduced this very rare whisky from a closed distillery to just 41.9%. Non-chill filtered.

Other reviews... Colour: straw. Nose: fresher and much more on white fruits (apples, pears) and candle wax. Hints of shoe polish and then kiwis and gooseberries. Even more shoe polish and ‘new’ leather after a while, as well as a little oak and vanilla. A shoemaker’s malt? Mouth: not too bold I must say but very oaky, tannic (but not overly drying), tea-ish, with a little cardboard, nutmeg, white pepper… Well, it seems that the cask took a fair share here. Finish: not too long but certainly oaky. It’s almost like tea in which you’d have poured spirit. Not bad, but there are certainly (much) better Caperdonichs at Duncan Taylor’s. 78 points - whiskyfun.com

Old Forester 1910 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky (750ml)
    Kentucky, UNITED STATES
    $139. 99
    Bottle
    $1679.88 Dozen
    ABV: 46.5%

Collectors note, this marks the fourth and final expression of the Whisky Row Series. On 22nd October 1910, a fire on the bottling line halted production of Old Forester. Complicating matters, there was a vat of mature whisky waiting to be bottled. Otherwise facing ruin, the whisky was instead stored in new, charred oak containers to rest until the line could be repaired. What emerged was remarkable enough to become an entirely new expression, but one that wasn't to be labelled as "Bourbon" - even though it fits all the legal requirements. The double barreling was the first documented of its kind, now mimicked in this Old Forester that sees a second maturation at a low proof in barrels "charred nearly to the point of incineration”, allowing more of the sweet wood sugars to dissolve into the whiskey. The term "Old Fine Whisky" has been adopted as a historical nod for this edition. 46.5% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Not sure how much time you have in the day. But anyone with less than twenty minutes to spare shouldn't even think about starting on this one. Easily one of the most complex and satisfying bourbons out here. 95.5 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2025-26

...The last expression in the Whiskey Row series delivers a uniquely satisfying experience that stands out among both its siblings and other double barreled expressions at large. For some, this release may find the extreme char may be too much. Oak is predominant throughout the entire sip and lingers for a long time once the sip ends. However I find this to be Old Forester 1910’s main selling point. The oak influence comes off as refined and sweet and doesn’t come across as dry until the very end. It’s a nice deviation from other double barreled products on the market and one that finds a nice place in the Whiskey Row series lineup. OId Forester 1910 had high expectations to live up to. It was saved as the last expression in the Whiskey Row series and it came after the highly adored Old Forester 1920. Despite not quite living up to the same bang for your buck that Old Forester 1920 delivers, it does succeed in delivering a unique sip that’s very enjoyable in its own right. - breakingbourbon.com

1995 Signatory Vintage Glenrothes 30 Year Old Symington's Choice Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - 54.4%
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $499. 00
    Bottle
    $5988.00 Dozen
    ABV: 54.4%

"...has everything that is good about Sherry: it is rich, indulgent, varied, deep and intense." - whiskybase.com

Whether for astute collecting or hedonistic drinking, Signatory's cask #6980 from Glenrothes should be on your short list. 499 bottles were decanted. Variously described as "monolithic" yet "more refined than a typical Symington profile", it comes full-term matured from a first-fill oloroso butt, uncut, straight from the cask. Regular readers may recall that this label highlights Andrew Symington's favourite picks from the enormous warehouses at Edradour in Pitlochry. First released in 2023 with a focus on heavily sherried malts aged between 20-35 years old, these whiskies have offered some freak values. But the great price doesn't matter if the whisky doesn't taste good. By all reports, this bottling fullfills all of the criteria for a stand-out buy in premium Speyside, especially in the context of what other distillers are commanding for sherried malts (often of younger age and lesser quality). We're told it's also increasingly unusual for Glenrothes to let go of heavily sherried stocks - of this or any calibre. 54.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... The Sherry is very intense: fig jam, cinnamon-dusted apple tart, raspberry coulis, dried dates and apricots, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, chocolate fondant, marzipan, creamy vanilla, damp wood, salted caramel, honey, parquet wax, incense, and freshly tanned leather. On the palate, it is very rich and sweet, but not excessively so: raisins, slivered almonds, crushed quince, several candied fruits, a generous helping of spice, crème brûlée, and a hint of lemon zest. The finish begins with dark chocolate, coffee beans, cashew nuts, melted butter, shortbread cookies, and a touch of wild strawberries. Toasted walnuts and nougat complete the experience. - whiskybase.com

A seaside distillery, located on the banks of the River Deveron, next to the Moray Firth, Macduff was built in 1960 in response to the post-war whisky boom. 2011 Signatory Vintage Orkney (HP) 14 Year Old 100 Proof Edition #58 Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Orkney Islands, SCOTLAND
    $119. 99
    Bottle
    $1439.88 Dozen
    ABV: 57.1%

Signatory's latest shipment includes two Orkney whiskies that were distilled and bottled back-to-back. This one was finished in Amontillado hogsheads, the other in Palo Cortado hogsheads. Some have said the style here is a bit brash and in your face, but that's expected from Highland Park bottled at near cask strength. Yours is the opportunity to secure one or both editions at very reasonable prices. 57.1% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.

Other reviews... Perhaps the whisky is a touch too hot. Otherwise, it certainly has lovely Highland Park aromas. As is often the case with 100 proof bottlings, the whisky isn't particularly complex. However, the Highland Park character manages to assert itself against the cask, and a nice creamy caramel note also emerges. - whiskybase.com

    Orkney Islands, SCOTLAND
    $119. 99
    Bottle
    $1439.88 Dozen
    ABV: 57.1%

The second 'secret' Orkney in our direct import Signatory consignment is an unusual bottling matured in Palo Cortado casks. You could think of this relatively rare sherry style as a bridge between the elegance of Amontillado and the richness of Oloroso, imparting a combination of dryness, nutty intensity and vibrant fruitiness. Whether much of that character will carry through to the whisky will be interesting to find out. Good reviews for both HP editions in this shipment. Which to choose?! 57.1% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.

Other reviews... In direct comparison, I preferred number 58 (Amontillado) slightly more... both bottlings deserve nothing but praise! - whiskybase.com

...The first impression is rather average, but the whisky improves with each new sip, especially when adding water. It's not an easy one, and this makes it even more interesting to explore. A good buy in my opinion and an unexpected detour from the regular heavily sherried lineup in 100 proof series. - whiskybase.com

Egans Vintage Single Grain Irish Whiskey (700ml)
    IRELAND
    $124. 99
    Bottle
    $1499.88 Dozen
    ABV: 46%

Matured in American oak casks for a minimum of eight years. Bright gold. Aromas of vanilla wafer, caramel and custard countered by straw / grass. Some balsa wood? Slightly rum-like after air contact. A middleweight, mildly oily grain with a pleasing balance of caramel, vanilla and emerging fruitiness. Glides through the finish which is judiciously spiced, crisp, warming. Good length. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... From vintage 2009, this bourbon cask matured whiskey is around the 8 year mark. Vanilla custard tarts, digestive biscuits, green vegetal notes, and scents of a bakery counter pull you in. Caramel, active spices, soft fruits, peach, apple, pear, pepper, and golden sultana flavors, but as the caramels slide into toffee the grain character becomes more evident into the finish.

Rich and succulent with polished yet sturdily built tannins and a sense of freshness across the long finish.

Sourced from vines with an average age of 80 years old with maturation taking place in older large format French oak. Deep dark red core with black tinged edges and a red to dark red hue. Spicy red raspberry and red liquorice aromas are trailed by some subtle vanilla, dried herb, crushed rock and pepper notes. Rich, succulent dark raspberry, liquorice and ripe cherry fruits flood the mouth with notions of vanillin spice, crushed rock and pepper the undercard. Polished yet sturdily built tannin structure with a sense of freshness across the long, juicy finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

    Other Reviews…..
From Blewitt Springs’ Loulakis vineyard off 80-year-old bush vines. This spent six months in old, large format oak. Rollicking red fruits and musky, rosy florals in a tenor range, reflecting the chill season and the relatively early picking theme of this cuvée to retain fruitful verve and drive. It’s supple and finely tannic, and a very neat, well-constructed wine; polished, but with a distinct grenache revival feel. Drink by 2031.

A delicious, shapely textured Pinot Grigio that shows admirable intensity for its price.

This fantastic entry level Pinot Grigio that delivers on both intensity and texture was produced by the Rocca family who have been producing wines since the late 1800’s. This wine hails from the Veneto region in northeastern Italy, renowned for its picturesque vineyards and a climate that is ideal for producing crisp white wines.
Brilliant very pale straw almost water like colour with faint green toned edges. Delightful pear and red apple scents flow from the glass with whiffs of lime and wet stone also evident. Delicious pear and red apple fruits caress the palate with a shapely textural feel. Delicate lime, quince and wet stone elements linger across the back half. Showing admirable intensity for its price, brisk acidity lines the lengthy, river stone like finish.
    Drink over the next year.
