Despite being classified as a blend, it's reported to contain a high proportion of malt from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries.

Other reviews... Beautiful whisky which just sings a lilting malty refrain.
    90.5 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2013

Quite youthful aromas of citrus fruit, sherry wood spices and a touch of smoke. The palate is mellow with some citrus and plenty of sherry wood spices. Quite balanced with a good citrus complexity and a slightly smoky finish. Water brings out a floral orange Muscat note, whilst on the palate it brings out some vanilla nuances. - World Whisky Awards Category Winner 2015

"Opulent and gently peaty with the essence of aged sherry casks, this whisky goes down smooth with a well-rounded and balanced flavor" - ISC 2008 Gold Medal winner.

Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 6.1 Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Islay, SCOTLAND
    $599. 00
    Bottle
    $7188.00 Dozen
    ABV: 57%

Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such has some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product pictured.

Wholly matured in American oak, 'Octomore' takes its name from a farm two miles away from the distillery (where all of the barley used to create this edition was sourced). In its sixth release, peated to a whopping 167 phenol parts per million - this series remains one of the smokiest efforts on planet earth (Laphroaig and Ardbeg generally weigh in around 40 or 50 ppm) and has garnered a cult following.

Packaged in something akin to a gothic bowling pin from the year 2060, the visual charisma conveys what's inside - think of this as the whisky equivalent of Pink Floyd when Syd Barret still mattered - whimsical, progressive and 'out there’: Islay in interstellar overdrive.

Tasting note:  Brilliant deep gold, polished brass colour. Wavers for a minute before a more definitive peat-reek profile of lanolin / wool shed and manure takes centre stage. The walk through the farmyard continues into the second pass which adds jaffa, choc fudge and dense fruit'n'nut chocolate interchanging with dried grass-like notes through the earthy peat. Final inspection finds orange cake and sweet cereals now to the fore while the overall bouquet drops a notch intensity wise. Five years old, 167ppm and cask strength yet so accessible that there's even an ethereal sense of 'lightness' (relatively speaking) that sets this apart from the previous release. The alcohol just gently nips at the tongue as cocoa and vanilla rise through the smoke along with flashes of grassy / grain flavours. Weighty peat slams down to finish. Incredible balance. Ends creamy as hints of cocoa, vanilla and sooty lanolin repeat in the prolonged fade. So easy to drink it should come with a warning label. But is it more than just a peat bomb? Brace yourself for something utterly different in the world of Scotch Whisky. 57% Alc./Vol. 96 points

...Distilled at Bruichladdich Distillery using only Scottish Barley. Bruichladdich is usually an unpeated brand of single malt but in contrast, at 167ppm, its Octomore alter ego is said to be the world's most heavily peated whisky. Aged 5 years at Bruichladdich’s, this is the sixth edition of Octomore. Appearance: Clear, mid golden amber. Aroma: mouldering embers, vegetal peat, baked apple and smoked streaky bacon. Taste: Honeyed smoky sweetness – strangely reminiscent of mezcal. Vanilla, toasted rye bread, dry nuttiness and poached pear fruitiness with nutmeg and curry leaf spice. Aftertaste: Salty seaweed, streaky bacon and vanilla with lingering oaky nutmeg spice. 4.5 stars - www.diffordsguide.com

    Colombo No.7 Dry Gin (700ml)
    UNITED KINGDOM
    $89. 99
    Bottle
    $1079.88 Dozen
    ABV: 43.1%
Based on a 70-year-old-recipe that took Tanqueray No.7 as its inspiration, Colombo No.7 was conceived at a time when many traditional botanicals were difficult to procure due to trade blockades during World War II. Alternatives were found in locally grown cinnamon, ginger and curry leaf. On working on the recreation of the original recipe, the grandson of the founder, Amal de Silva Wijeyeratne commented: “We did try to see if we could enhance it and tried adding other botanicals and spices. We tried lemon grass, turmeric, cardamom etc., but somehow we always found that more spices didn’t necessarily make it better and seemed to take it out of balance." He adds, "My grandfather was always a perfectionist, and Colombo No.7 was already perfect. We didn’t change a thing, and in about two months the gin was ready.”
The gin is presently distilled and bottled in England using a 100% grain spirit base.

Tasting note: Powerful aromas of pine needle, curry leaf and citrus peel with air contact releasing more of the former. A pure, relaxed delivery with attractive tangy citrus, restrained juniper, white pepper, and a medium long dried herbal finish with trace curry leaf heat in the aftertaste. London dry inspired with a nicely harmonised flavour range. 43.1% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews… Colombo No.7 has landed at a funny time in our gin drinking history; when it was first made 70 years ago it would have been unimaginably alien with its citrus absence and curry leaf presence, but tasted next to gins created in the last couple of years it almost cries of tradition. Juniper leads the way to taste, with liquorice and angelica lending an earthy, almost dusty sweetness and a soft mouth. Cinnamon sings loud and bright, though doesn’t whip at the tongue in a typically barbarous manner, instead conspiring with the ginger and curry leaf to bring a fragrant warmth and depth. Coriander seed rounds out the flavour, bringing a hint of citrus and nuts and prolonging the finish. - http://www.ginfoundry.com

…Having read the list of botanicals, I was expecting something a bit weird tasting, and possibly over spiced. I am not a fan of cinnamon either. So It was a relief to discover that Colombo No. 7 is a properly balanced gin. Juniper and citrus aromas and flavours abound, followed by subtle cinnamon. The finish has great white pepper notes. In case you were wondering it doesn’t taste of curry! Pretty much a perfect G&T, crisp with juniper and citrus with the curry leaves coming through on the finish. I used their suggested garnish of curry leaves which was delicious, but there are plenty of other garnishes that could work well like ginger, lime or mango… - theginqueen.com

Bright purple. Highly perfumed blue fruit, violet and candied licorice aromas show excellent clarity and pick up hints of woodsmoke and menthol as the wine opens up. Juicy and appealingly sweet, offering sappy boysenberry, cherry and spicecake flavors and a touch of smoky bacon. A sexy floral note emerges on the gently tannic finish, which hangs on with strong, spice-tinged persistence.

The 2017 Cornas Granit 30 features flattering aromas of cracked pepper, ground clove, fresh raspberries and crushed stone. But while the wine is full-bodied, it comes across as slightly austere and lacking mid-palate texture, before finishing long, with hints of Berry Zinger tea.

This is Perth-based venture is the brain child of Little Creatures founders and former owners, Nic Trimboli, Howard Cearns and David Martin.

The boys comment, "Using biodynamic farmed wheat from Australia's Wheatbelt, fermenting in small tanks using an organic yeast and then distilling in our custom made copper pot still, we have crafted a clean and textured vodka which references our ground of clean skies, healthy farms and the team behind producing it...Flavours of vanilla and fruit shine through with a super smooth mouthfeel from distilling a select number of times... enough to ensure we embrace the soft sweet flavour of the wheat but not too much to strip away this wonderful texture."

Not surprisingly, a gin, absinthe, rum and whisky made from WA-sourced ingredients are also planned. 40% Alc./Vol.

    Hennessy Paradis Rare Cognac (700ml)
    Cognac, FRANCE
    $1750. 00
    Bottle
    $21000.00 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

In 1774, Richard Hennessy set up a small warehouse on the right bank of the River Charente to house his rarest eaux de vie, now known as the 'founder’s warehouse.' Since then, eight generations of the Hennessy family have built up what is now the finest collection of old eaux de vie in the world. It is from these that Hennessy has been able to create Paradis Extra. Paradis Extra is the fruit of successive marriages between hundreds of different eaux de vie, nurtured to maturity by successive generations of the same family of cellar masters.

This Cognac is a veritable fireworks display of spices and peppery notes, softened by the fragrant scent of flowers. Finesse and elegance are the major characteristics. Perfectly harmonious in the mouth, Paradis Extra reveals itself to be smooth, full-bodied and long lasting on the palate. Its force and finesse, plus the delicate flavour of rancio, give it a perfect balance. Exceptional cognacs such as Paradis Extra should be enjoyed using tall, thin glasses that narrow slightly towards the top. Such glasses retain the aroma and transmit easily the warmth of the hands to the spirit.

The sweet seducer! Colour: Dark walnut with a distinct, deep reddish tinge. Nose: Wood and marshmallows vie for attention with gingerbread and Oolong tea aromas. Palate: Initially sweet, verbena-like aromas become heavy with chocolate, custard apple, slowly turning to mandarin peel, leathery, almost masterstock-like flavours finishing with sweet Pedro Ximenez notes; the finish is long, honeyed and dry, a majestic end to a great Cognac. Comment: The sweetness and balances totally seduces; this would have to be your ‘last wish’ Cognac. 40% Alc./Vol.  - tasting note by Franz Scheurer, AGT Wine Magazine, Cognac Tasting 27th May 2005.

A sublime marriage of over 100 eaux-de-vie, some more than a century old. Amber/gold appearance. Textbook tete de cuvee Cognac bouquet of pine needles, clover honey, rancio, sweet oak and spiced apple. Offers elegant flavors of fatty rancio, soft cheese, wood smoke and bacon fat from entry through midpalate. Finishes more woody and resiny than fruity-ripe. Still a favorite after all these years. Gorgeous.

    Angostura Orange Bitters (100ml)

    $251.88 Dozen
    ABV: 28%

In the last few years we've witnessed a renaissance period for cocktails and a subsequent demand for traditional ingredients. Many cocktail classics call for Orange Bitters, which for a long time was notoriously difficult to find. With the resurgence of interest has come enough demand to inspire Gary Regan to produce his now famous Regan's No. 6 Orange Bitters. Following Regan's success, others have followed, each putting their own spin on Orange Bitters. Regan's is intense, assertive, extremely bitter and very heavily spiced, Fee Brothers' much lower alcohol version focuses more on capturing the essence of sweet, ripe orange. Angostura's interpretation lies somewhere in between the two. Clean citrus characters are enhanced by a clean spirit, and a balanced dose of spices.

Apart from being an essential addition to classic cocktails such as the Manhattan, Sazerac or San Francisco, we suggest you try a dash in your next martini, with lime and soda, in orange cake or add to Crepe Suzette. One staff member insists a couple of drops is the secret to his self assessed 'stunning' Beef Teriyaki recipe. The jury is still out. 28.0% Alc./Vol.

In 1765, Richard Hennessy laid the foundations of a priceless collection made up of his most exceptional eaux de vie. Since then, eight generations of the Hennessy family have enriched the Founder's warehouse with their own contributions of the finest cognacs produced during their lifetimes. It is from this collection that Hennessy has created Richard Hennessy, as a homage to its founder.

Richard Hennessy is made up of more than 100 of the most exceptional eaux de vie, some of which date from the early 19th century. Each one has been selected for its unique qualities. Balanced and complex, the rich bouquet slowly releases a succession of aromas that have built up over the years: vanilla, spices, pepper and delicately fragrant flowers. In the mouth, the infinitely refined texture reveals an extraordinary palette of flavours that blends spices, the subtle essence of ripe fruit and the finesse of oak.

A tulip-shaped taster’s glass, or a small snifter will warm the spirit and guarantee the gradual but full release of the aromas. According to Talleyrand, celebrated 18th-century French politician and illustrious customer of Hennessy, to enjoy a cognac such as Richard Hennessy one must 'cradle the glass in the palm of one’s hand, swirl the spirit to release its full aroma, lift it to one’s nostrils, inhale deeply and then... set it down and discuss its virtues'.

    'Hennessy's pinnacle achievement'.

Other reviews... A blend of over 100 Cognacs, some of which date back to the early 1800s. The aroma requires time; when it does emerge, it blossoms into a multilayered bouquet laced with tea leaves, red pepper, dried fruit and old oak. Starts sweet and caramel-like at entry; sensational midpalate features rancio, raisins, vanilla extract, dried flowers and honey. Finish is semisweet. Hennessy's pinnacle achievement.

St. Agnes 5 Year Old VSOP Brandy (700ml)
    Renmark, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
    $51. 99
    Bottle
    $623.88 Dozen
    ABV: 37%

The St. Agnes range of brandies was founded in 1925. Its ever-increasing success in the market-place can, to some degree, be attributed to the no compromise in quality approach adopted since those early days. The company philosophy on brandy production revolves around the pot still process followed by many years maturation in small oak casks. The brandies in the St. Agnes range are all pot still brandies.

St. Agnes VSOP is a richly coloured, full-bodied five year old brandy. The palate shows good spirit with great depth and complexity derived from the extended period of small wood maturation. This ageing has imparted soft, slightly sweet oak after-flavours that complement the full flavoured palate making it discernibly fuller-bodied than its Three Star younger sister. While still made in a clean, dry style, the greater depth and weight on the palate ensures that this fine brandy is as eminently suitable to be enjoyed neat or with a little ice or water, as it is to be consumed with a mixer.

Each handsome antique replica decanter comes with an old style 'tax strip' that discloses when the bourbon was produced and bottled. Aged for well over four years these whiskies far exceed the standards of the 'Bottled in Bond Act of 1897' and are some of the oldest Bottled in Bond examples on the market.

Note: Product comes from a private collection and as such has some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product pictured.

One expression of the previous releases of this stand-out South Australian project comes from a fourteen year old single cask, topped up with small quantities of malt from the 1997 and 1998 vintages. It marks another distinctive addition to the Smith's line up.
Having developed something of a following over the years, these whiskies now sell out apace on release, so don't dally!

Tasting note: Deep copper colour, showing some minor sediment in the glass. Opens with a superb, lifted, fine brandy-like bouquet including fruit cake, dried fig and vanilla. Several minutes in the glass further emphasises the fruit cake / raisin qualities adding hints of cinnamon. Fruity-yet-dry delivery with raisin cake and dried fig flavours plus a lively dance of spices, while the finish adds a flash of vanillan oak sweetness. Excellent concentration. Concludes long, spicy and mildly tannic with the dried fruits echoing in the fade. Lovely malt.

Established in 1935 and still a private family owned and operated company, Willett Distillery (aka Kentucky Bourbon Distillers or ‘KBD’) are rather like an American version of a Scottish-style independent bottler. They purchase barrels of young whiskey and age them in their hill-top warehouses south of Bardstown. Older expressions have become blue chip investments with a 24 year old Willett selling for upwards of 10K. That kind of upside makes this 13 year old seem like a steal.

With an outturn of just 140 bottles (we have less than a handful to sell), this is oozing collector appeal. Single barrel. Natural strength. Super limited. 60.1% Alc./Vol.

Chivas Regal 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $68. 99
    Bottle
    $827.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

The name 'Schivas' is derived from the old Gaelic 'seimh as', meaning 'the narrow place.' It perfectly describes the spot where a medieval castle once stood, at a narrow stretch of the River Ythan, in Aberdeenshire in the North East of Scotland. In 1950, Chivas Brothers began the search for a secure supply of fine malt whisky. Strathisla Distillery in Keith, the oldest and most beautiful distillery in the Highlands, was the obvious choice. The distillery was purchased and now the highly praised Strathisla Single Malt Scotch Whisky lies at the heart of the Chivas Regal blend. Aged for a minimum of 12 years, Chivas is distinguished by its light, lingering aroma, full, smooth, balanced palate with a hint of smoke - very subtle and complex. 'A good whisky blender knows intimately the character of all the whiskies he uses,' says Chivas's Master Blender Colin Scott. 'They are as unique as people. Some are subtle, some are bolder. My job is to produce a distinctive blend of whisky of the highest possible quality which is consistent in flavor and bouquet from year to year. I would describe Chivas Regal as smooth, with a honeyed richness, round and full-bodied, slightly smoky with a long, lingering finish. The classic, premium Scotch whisky.'

Other reviews... Nose: Distinct marshmallow. Peach blossom. Faint cocoa. Palate: Light hazelnuts. Cream. Buttercups. Violets. Lavender. Herbal. Finish: A little snappy and aggressive. A Superb Blanc de Blancs Champagne.

A pioneer in the champagne trade, the Ruinart House has stood out due to its unique know-how and history. The son of Nicolas Ruinart, brother of Dom Ruinart, himself named Nicolas, opened the companies first account book on 1st september 1729 with the following declaration, “in the name of God and the Saint Virgin shall this book be commenced.” This entry was to be the official act establishing France’s First Champagne House.

Made in the pure Ruinart tradition exclusively from the Chardonnay grape, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs reflects perfect harmony. Its striking luminosity is further enhanced by the clear glass bottle, a replica from an 18th Century model.

Good white creamy mousse with pale gold base wine colour and a very fine bead displaying excellent persistence. The nose delivers a superb complex sniff with a distinct yeasty top note followed by aromas of baked bread, brioche, cashew and toast. The story behind this unusual wine dates back to the time of the Crusades. The island of Cyprus was then a favourite resting ground for Crusades returning from battle and later became a centre for the Knights of the Order of St.John. It was the members of this order who discovered a wine that was been produced in the Troodos Mountains. This wine they named Commanderie after their headquarters, finding it to be not only an excellent drink but also to possess therapeutic properties.

Estienne de Lusignan described Commandaria St.John in 1572 A.D., recording in his book “Descriptions of the island of Cyprus”: “There is a certain grapevine…which ripens at the end of July, whose grapes are not gathered until the end of September. They [the grapes] are put on the roofs the space of three days…then trodden and the pips and stalks removed before fermentation.”Commandaria St. John is then aged in large earthenware jars buried in the ground and fortified with grape brandy.

Ettore Zucca created this amaro liqueur in 1885, a bittersweet Italian aperitif, made using the root of the Chinese rhubarb, found only in mountainous Kansu province. After having been absorbed by liqueur giant Disarrono, they relaunched the product, harking back to the drink's roots and boosting the abv by almost double. Expect flavours of cola, molasses, and burnt coffee with gently bitter and smoky herbal notes. 30% Alc./Vol.

Easy to drink with the addition of water, showing caramel, nougat, dates, dark chocolate, polished oak, along with a hint of leather and tobacco. Slightly better than last year’s release—richer, thicker, and more balanced. I’m enjoying Stagg’s more rounded, less aggressive demeanor of late. A classic! Editor's Choice. 96 points

"Amongst the world’s truly great whiskeys." - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2020

With the entire Redbreast portfolio gleaning rapturous acclaim world wide, it's hard to imagine how they'd be able to improve on perfection. Reports have it that the 21 year old achieves just that. A quintessential expression of the Pure Pot Still style. Irish whiskey rarely gets better than this.

Other reviews... Wow! After the wonderful 12 year old cask strength, Redbreast does it again. This is a different beast altogether, but it is a stunner. This is Roger Waters doing The Wall: over the top, unsubtle, and totally entertaining. There’s lots going on: fermenting apples, juicy oils, spice, and dark cherry and berry fruits zip and fizz over the palate, the wood influence is sublime. I'm comfortably numb. 96 points - whiskyadvocate.com

"...amongst the world’s truly great whiskeys and a near blue print for the perfect Pot Still Irish Whiskey." 97 points- Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2020

Let’s put it this way: If you like Redbreast 12, you’ll love Redbreast 21. All of Redbreast’s classic notes are intact: ultra-ripe banana, coconut husks, and butterscotch, to name but a few. But there’s also burnt honey, coal fires, and a powerful caramel note on the finish. The citrus notes — driven by partial aging in first-fill sherry casks — are particularly present here. No matter what you think about Redbreast, there’s always something new to discover lurking somewhere in a dram of this whiskey. - drinkhacker.com

...A bottling I usually adore on the occasions I’ve tried it in the past, although this is the first time I’ve written proper notes. Colour: gold. Nose: golden syrup drizzled over passion fruit with ripe pineapple, melon, caramelised brown sugar and some sultanas stewed in old calvados. Simple and totally beautiful with these rather luscious and precise fruits. A touch of white pepper as well. Mouth: preserved lemons, lime oil, more brown sugar, fruit syrups, oatmeal flapjack and a little flinty minerality. Some green tea, hessian and then moving more towards white fruits such as lychee. Finish: Long, slightly earthy with a more nervous, citrus led fruitiness. Lots of lemon peel, olive oil, a touch of soot and some barley water. Comments: It’s really one of the benchmark Irish whiskeys in my book. Beautiful fruitiness. 89 points - whiskyfun.com

    IRELAND
    $99. 99
    Bottle
    $1199.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

Writers Tears is a vatting of Pure Pot Still and Single Malt (proportions are a closely guarded secret). It's the creation of Writers Tears proprietor, Bernard Walsh, who enjoys privileged access to the warehouses of certain Irish distillers from where he selects the casks for his own labels. Some years ago he came up with this entirely ‘new’ type of whiskey: a blend of malt and pure pot still (PPS) whiskeys (all other Irish blends contain some proportion of Coffey still grain whiskey). The Pure Pot Still is a style that was once known as the "Champagne of Irish Whiskey" and was traditionally a favourite of Irish writers suffering from writer’s block. Rather poetically, they drank so much of it, some were reputed to have cried tears of whiskey when inspiration finally hit. Although the Pure Pot Still style was once widespread in Ireland, a number of historical factors including the The Irish War of Independence, the Irish Civil War, and prohibition in the United States led to a drastic reduction in the number of Irish distilleries. With this reduction in Irish whiskeys available came the loss in recognition abroad of the pure pot still style itself. The majority of the surviving distilleries began to produce blends and single malts to the detriment of the Pure Pot Still.

Tasting note: Flawless, bright gold appearance. One of the most pristine and delicate Irish aromas we’ve experienced with a deliciously fruity edge including notes of peach and pear over a distinctively Irish pot still base. Several minutes aeration draws out banana cake and flashes of apple along with hints of vanilla and manuka honey. Supremely soft entry builds into a medium bodied whiskey of stunning purity, achieving a wonderful fusion with a gently spiced, fruity, grainy profile followed by a burst of butterscotch at mid palate. Soft, slightly oily mouthfeel. Finish is dry and understated with notes of vanilla and cereal followed by a subtle butterscotch fade. In a word ‘elegant’, in fact, so lacy and light, it’s hard to believe this is whiskey, such is its softness. Must try Irish. Non Chill filtered. 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... A glossy pot still character: rather than the usual fruity firmness, the recognisable pot still traits are shrouded in soft honey tones which dovetail with lightening kumquat-citrus tones. Quite a curious,  but always deliciously appealing animal. Works beautifully well: the arrival is an alternating delivery of soft and hard waves, the former showing a more bitter, almost myopic determination to hammer home its traditional pot still stand point; the sweeter more yielding notes dissolve with little ot no resistance, leaving an acacia honeyed trail...” 93 Points Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2010

Chateau Mouton Rothschild holds a unique place in the history of Bordeaux, being the only property to have its ranking changed since the introduction of the 1855 Classification. Originally listed as a Second Growth, through the tireless efforts of Baron Philippe Rothschild to make a wine he truly believed could match the best in the world, the property was upgraded to First Growth in June 1973. Known as the most flamboyant of the First Growth wines, Mouton Rothschild shows the rich and exotic side of Pauillac. Plantings on the 75 hectare property are a mix of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot.

Smoke, grilled herbs, tobacco and incense give the 2009 much of its exotic, captivating personality. Seamless, opulent, yet with terrific freshness, the 2009 is sure to thrill those fortunate to own it for several decades. In a word: dazzling. The blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot. Complex, full-bodied, and beautifully concentrated, with sweet tannins, this masterpiece is already impossible to resist yet won't hit full maturity for another decade and will evolve for 50-60 years if well stored. The texture is the most striking thing on this wine, right from the attack. It rolls out a carpet of silk and welcomes you in, and displays the gourmet edge that Mouton does so expertly, with blackberry, black cherry, crushed blueberries and garrigue. It has a softness that makes it not necessarily signature Pauillac, but certainly signature Mouton, with the ripeness of the fruit tempered by firm, brushed tannins and a core of controlled acidity. Crushed mint leaves appear on the finish. Multi-layered and brilliant.

Everything that makes Mouton Rothschild one of the world's great wines is here in spades. Incredible levels of concentration with an opulence not found in other Pauillacs create the backdrop here. Unctuous, velvety, rich, and palate-staining, there is an exotic edge to the texture, countless layers of perfectly ripe fruit, purity, and a spicy edge that sets you up for a seamless finish that lasts more than 60 seconds. As good as this is, patience is going to be a virtue here, as this is only getting started. Drink from 2029-2075.

Other reviews... More Viking stuff by dear HP, and I say why not? Even if the pack says that this is ‘spicy and elegant’, which sounds hardly Viking (when seen from France). Colour: gold. Nose: very HP, I would say, starting a wee bit spirity but getting then minerally honeyed and smokingly heathery, while notes of ale, marmalade and custard are roaming the oceans in the background. Trying to get into the Viking spirit too, you know... Mouth: it is, indeed, rather spicy, slightly eau-de-vie-ish (I would have said 10 instead of 16), but good, with raisins and this wee smoky minerality that’s very HP. Touches of strawberry jam and then more marmalade. Finish: medium yet a tad rough, with a little kirsch, or slivovitz, then raisins in chocolate. Critics have acknowledged this bottling as re-affirming the distillery's reputation for high quality. Awarded 'Best Speyside Malt' in 2016, the lads at whiskyfun.com also commented, "a surprise, really... ... It’s an expression I like, gentle and complex, even if I’m not sure we’re seeing it much on our favourite shelves these days. Colour: gold. Nose: very very nice, not too demanding but complex, a bit old-school (the school of the 1990s shall we say), with some malt, glazed chestnut, roasted nuts (aren’t roasted nuts disappearing from our malt whiskies?) and a large bag of Jaffa cakes. Orange blossom water. Wee touches of aniseed here and there, rose petals, stewed peaches, a little tamarind jam, some wee metallic touches (silverware)… Nutshell, something oriental. Mouth: excellent and not even very light. Marmalade, dried figs, raisins, walnut wine, pecan pie, honey-glazed nuts, Chinese pancake, maple syrup… I find this 18 really superb; only slight problem, it goes down like cold beer or wine. Finish: not too long for sure, but clean and wonderfully honeyed and nutty. What we call ‘chouchous’, or caramel-coated roasted peanuts. Simply a sin. Comments: a surprise, really. Have they upped their game? Do not overlook this expression of little Cardhu… 86 points - whiskyfun.com

...Cardhu—for me, at least—means intensity, and this delivers precisely that, with masses of citrus (bergamot and grapefruit) and just a hint of dark chocolate behind. With water, there’s red apple and Victoria plum, while the mouth is precise, with any richness cut with fresh acidity. Zesty and fresh on the finish. Try it in a Bobby Burns. Released without any fanfare, here’s evidence that Cardhu’s rebuilding its reputation nicely. 84 points - whiskyadvocate.com (Fall 2013)

Considered a more "restrained" Grange, this wine has balance but a somewhat foursquare/monolithic character with dry, astringent tannin in the finish, hence the question mark. The color is still a healthy dense purple, and the wine shows the tell-tale peppery, asphalt, earthy, creme de cassis characteristics, but the tannin seems to be increasingly problematic. As always, it is still a young wine, so the question that begs to be answered with time is, "Is it just unevolved and backward, or is it too tannic?"

The longer whiskey is allowed to age in the cask, the more its character develops (as does its rarity.) This is why whisky lovers are prepared to pay a little more for the pleasure of drinking Tullamore Dew 12 Year Old. Unlike its simpler & much younger counterpart, Tullamore Dew 12 YO is a blend of triple distilled, 12 -15 year old whiskeys, matured in old Bourbon casks and old Oloroso Sherry butts. Once poured, the 12 Year Old’s complexity and sophistication are immediately apparent with clear flavours of Irish Pot Still and unpeated malt emerging. Undertones of toasted wood from the lightly charred Bourbon casks give way to a sweet nuttiness derived from the sherry butts.

Awarded a gold medal and named 'Best Irish Whiskey' in the 1999 International Spirits Challenge, an achievement repeated the following year when Tullamore Dew was voted best Irish Whiskey in the 2000 International Spirits Challenge. Further success has been achieved in 2001 with the award of the Gold Medal in the International Wine & Spirits competition.

Domaine Comte Armand is one of the most respected names in Burgundy, with a rich history deeply rooted in the village of Pommard. At the heart of their holdings is the legendary Pommard Premier Cru Clos des Epeneaux, a walled monopole vineyard that has become synonymous with the domaine itself.

What sets Clos des Epeneaux apart is its remarkable ability to balance Pommard's natural power with a sense of elegance and finesse. The vineyard's old vines, some over 80 years of age, yield wines of depth and complexity, yet with a vibrancy that makes them captivating even in their youth. With age, these wines evolve beautifully, revealing layers of dark fruit, earth, and subtle spice.

    Other Reviews....
Here the nose is notably riper than the 2016 version yet it manages to retain good freshness to the pure red berry fruit, earthy, floral and spice-suffused aromas. The decidedly dense, tautly muscular and powerful broad-shouldered flavors are underpinned by notably firm tannins and outstanding length on the beautifully complex finale that exhibits just enough warmth to warrant mentioning. This is quite clearly built-to-age and it's going to need it. In a word, impressive. Drink through 2030+.

    Allen Meadows - Burghound

The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux is fabulous, wafting from the glass with notes of wild berries, orange peel, cinnamon, rich soil and espresso. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and layered, with a lovely line of bright acidity, fine-grained tannins, sappy energy, and terrific depth and tension at the core. This is a great Clos des Epeneaux from Paul Zinetti. Drink 2025 - 2055.

The 2015 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru takes time to coalesce in the glass, eventually revealing black cherries, raspberries, autumn leaves and a touch of incense. It is understated and classic in style, but seems to grow with aeration. The crisp palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and plenty of tension – a bit linear and strict at the moment, though I suspect this will age with real style once it has gotten through its adolescence. Do not touch for 5 to 7 years. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Drink 2023-2045.

Vibrant purple, still so youthful. There is an absolute explosion of rich dark cherry fruit, with 10% whole bunches included, which adds an extra tension. Really good acidity, despite the wealth of concentrated youthful fruit, great intensity behind. Tasted: October 2018

Penderyn Myth Single Malt Welsh Whisky (700ml)

    $1319.88 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

"What is Welsh for Wow!?" - Jim Murray

'Myth' is the second whisky in Penderyn's 'Dragon' range of 41% ABV expressions, along with Celt and Legend. This departs from the distillery's commonly found style of ex-Madeira wine cask-finishing, preferencing ex-bourbon and ex red wine casks. There are less pedestrian flavours of melon and green apple suggested through the vanilla and biscuity malt. It is arguably the fruitiest in the collection while remaining a subtle, low-key experience with little to no burn, leaving the impression of a well-made blend. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... Just such an addictive verve to this... any cleaner and you could wash your face in it. One of the maltiest Penderyns I've ever encountered. What is Welsh for Wow!? 41% Alc./Vol. bottling tasted. 94.5 points - Jim Murrays Whisky Bible 2020

... [+/- 2017 bottling] Not the first time we’re trying this entry-level NAS. Hope they improved it a bit… Colour: straw. Nose: difficult, acidic and full of iron and concrete. Milk, yoghurt, mud, cow stable… Not too sure here… Mouth: better on the palate, with some tropical fruits yet again (much fewer than in the 2007 and 2008 though), probably from fresh bourbon, then some lighter vanilla and touches of barley water. Feels like a blend, with this lightness. Quite some sawdust, not the best part. Finish: medium but a little planky. Flour, tapioca, sawdust… Comments: I had hoped this baby would make it to 80 but the sawdust handicapped it in the end. Good but not quite mythical, I would say. 78 points - whiskyfun.com

Suntory Hibiki Japanese Harmony Master's Select Blended Japanese Whisky (700ml)
    JAPAN
    $240. 00
    Bottle
    $2880.00 Dozen
    ABV: 43%

Launched in March 2015, this is yet another NAS addition to Suntory's sought after "Hibiki" series. More exclusive than the standard Harmony bottling, it's the first Hibiki created for the global duty free market. A combination of over ten malt and grain whiskies aged in five different types of casks from the Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita distilleries, Suntory chief blender Shinji Fukuyo was involved in its creation, with production overseen by the third generation Master Blender and great-grandson of Suntory's founder, Shingo Torii. Beautifully presented in the brand's trademark 24-faceted bottle representing the Japanese seasons, the bright brass colour shows impeccable purity. The initial pass finds subdued, resinous, woody aromas with extended air contact finally amplifying the bouquet beyond mediocre, releasing attractive fragrances of dusty cocoa, dates, oak shavings, cinnamon and pepper. Medium bodied, the mid palate expands with dried fruits, hazelnut, light cocoa and peppery warmth. At the finish, there's wood spice and wood shavings followed by a subtle vanilla and honey undercurrent. It improves over time, ending up richer and more robust than most Japanese blends at its level, probably due to some sherry casks in the mix. 43% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Some NAS blend and a loco-loco price of more than 100€ a bottle – 250€ at some online crooks’. Of course the older age-stated Hibikis are/were great whiskies, but this is just very scary and feels a bit like extreme cow milking, if you see what I mean. But okay, let’s assume some kind of master actually selected this, and proceed… Colour: gold. Nose: your average American-oak doped young whisky at first, but I have to admit it develops nicely and with unusual traits, such as genever, tapioca, and soft cinnamon. Lacks depth though, while it feels a little too ‘technological’ for me. Nice hints of new tyres, though. Mouth: right, this is good despite the wood that’s too apparent for me. Feels wood-flavoured. Then tangerines and papayas, nectarines, and Greek muscat. And why not? Finish: medium, with a little cedar wood, Turkish delights, and more peaches or nectarines. Comments: feels a bit like whisky made in a lab – you’re right, aren’t they all these days – but of course, they made it well. Very well, actually. Honestly, it’s still worth a solid 82 in my book. 82 points - whiskyfun.com

    Alsace, FRANCE
    $119. 99
    Bottle
    $1439.88 Dozen
    ABV: 44.4%

[2017 release] Smelling like a barrel-aged grappa, this novel spirit blends Alsatian beer eau-de-vie with Alsatian malt whisky. It's oaky then fruity with spiced plum, mixed fruit muesli and raisins on the nose and early into the delivery. The middle stage is medium bodied with a creamy, appetising vibrancy, finishing more like a typical single malt, while the raisiny / grappa character returns through the aftertaste. Very European. 44.4% Alc./Vol. 393 bottles

    $1319.88 Dozen
    ABV: 16.5%
Originally a therapeutic drink, this traditional Cocchi tonic is made from a Barolo base wine and infused with herbs and spices including quinine bark, rhubarb and cardamom before being aged.

Tasting note: Deep brown with autumn leaf edges. Aromas of muted citrus peel, fresh-crushed grapes, red berries and sweet earthy, herbal notes. Follows through with a gorgeous wine-like burst; blood orange, sweet spice, new leather, cigar box and super-fine, drying tannins. Nice bitter-sweet balance. Rounds off complex, fresh and delicious. 16.5% Alc./Vol.

Toschi's specialty, Nocello, is a liqueur made from walnuts and hazelnuts with a delicate and aromatic flavour. During the Middle Ages it was customary to plant a walnut tree when a daughter was born. When she was to be married the walnut tree was cut down and with the wood, as a symbol of happiness and prosperity, her nuptial bed was made. From the nuts of the tree an elixir was made – ‘Nocello.’ The tradition of this specialty liqueur continues and today Nocello has become popular as a dessert liqueur. It is delicious on vanilla, chocolate and coffee ice cream. Serve Nocello cold. 24% alc./vol. Gold Medal winner at the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2004!
