Jeptha Creed Bottled in Bond Rye Heavy Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)
    Kentucky, UNITED STATES
    $139. 99
    Bottle
    $1679.88 Dozen
    ABV: 50%

Located in Shelbyville, Kentucky, Jeptha Creed is a farm distillery conceived in 2015 by Bruce Nethery, together with mother-daughter duo, Joyce and Autumn Nethery. Their Scotch-Irish descent and founding motto “Don’t Forget Where You Came From” extends to their branding, with each bottle incorporating an embossed Celtic Knot in the glass. In August 2016, they distilled the first legal barrel of bourbon in Shelby County since before prohibition. The company originally released their first straight 4-grain bourbon in 2019, and has since expanded the lineup to three ongoing core bourbons, along with various limited editions. This is the company's traditional 'Bottled in Bond' expression, distilled from a mash bill of 75% Bloody Butcher Heirloom Corn, 20% Malted Rye and 5% Malted Barley, bottled at a generous 50% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Fragrant scents of fresh-baked rye bread, lavender, a hint of dried mango, and inviting hints of charred rye seed. On the palate, it's quite bitter, but very idiosyncratic and intriguing. It's quite spicy and hot, so water or ice complements it well. Good length on the finish, with some of the floral notes returning. Lots of great spice, and unquestionably an interesting and intriguing journey. 88 points - whiskyadvocate.com

...I always like it when a company puts out a bottled in bond bourbon, since it evens the playing field in the rules that have to be followed and can allow a more apples-to-apples comparison to other bottled in bond bourbons of a similar age and mashbill. Jeptha Creed Bottled in Bond Rye Heavy Bourbon delivers a well composed sip full of sweet notes that are nicely complemented with earthier ones along with hints of spice. This all comes with one major caveat though, the presence of a prominent long past its prime wet sponge note on the nose. It surprised me so much that at first I thought it might be the Glencairn I was using, however, after hand washing multiple glasses (no sponge used), and even trying it in an untraditional Yeti cup, the note was still prominent each time. I went so far as requesting a second bottle from the company as I was even under the assumption it just could have been a bad batch, however, the new bottle yielded the same results. If you can work past the wet sponge note, the rest of the sip is great. If Jeptha Creed can hone in the nose, this will be a well done bottled in bond bourbon. In the meantime, just be aware that you’ll first need to work past the wet sponge smell in order to enjoy the rest of the sip. - breakingbourbon.com

Notes from the producers... NOSE: Sweet orange creme brulee, followed by bold baking spices, and dried cranberries. PALATE: Light caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and lemongrass with undertones of sweet oak. FINISH: Long smooth buttery finish with whispers of ginger and cinnamon that dance across your tongue.

    2023 Henschke Keyneton Euphonium
    Barossa, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
    $56. 99
    Bottle
    $683.88 Dozen
    Cellar: Drink now - 8 Years (2026-2034)
    ABV: 14.5%
    Closure: Stelvin

Rich, seamless and layered with it’s trademark polished feel.

Keyneton Euphonium is composed of Shiraz sourced from up to 50-year-old vines growing in the Eden and Barossa Valleys, blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot from selected vineyards in both regions. The 2023 vintage is made up of 65% Shiraz, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc matured in a mixture of 10% new French oak hogsheads for a period of 17 months.
Dense inky black heart with a dark red hue. Aromas of dark plum, blackcurrant and liquorice sail through the nostrils with admirable intensity. Spicy vanillin cedar, gentle earthy tobacco, dried herb and pepper notes ensue. Rich, seamless and layered, the mid weighted palate carries its trademark polished feel with dark plum, liquorice and blackcurrant fruits to the fore. Blackberry, spicy vanillin cedar, earthy dried herb and peppered fennel elements lurk across the back half. Cashmere like tannins with a long, silky textured finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
    Alc. 14.5%

    Other Reviews……
Shiraz Cabernet with a 2% splash of Cabernet Franc, Euphonium is a well composed example of the classic Aussie red. Offers a nice mix of Shiraz-lead ripe plums and blackberries married to Cabernet’s cassis, herbs and leaves and tied in unison by woody spices, red earth notes, dried flowers and cocoa. Maybe there is less savouriness this vintage compared to previous years; the ’23 seems more fruit-filled and buoyant in mood. Definitely energised as a three-year-old which is a good sign for further ageing potential. Drink 2026-2038.

Drumshanbo Italian Fig and Laurel Gunpowder Irish Gin (700ml)
    IRELAND
    $86. 99
    Bottle
    $1043.88 Dozen
    ABV: 43%

A limited-edition expression crafted by The Shed Distillery in collaboration with two-time world champion Italian mixologist, Bruno Vanzan. Purple viola fig and aromatic laurel are set against Drumshanbo’s standard lineup of citrus, including lemon, lime, and grapefruit, as well as the namesake Gunpowder green tea. 43% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Fig may be a more subtle flavor to work with, but the gin captures a vibrantly sweet and juicy aroma that carries through the first sips. The more bitter and savory botanicals offer a solid counterbalance, and the gin finishes with just a hint of sweetness. With a richer, more rounded mouthfeel compared to a traditional London dry, the Gunpowder Irish Gin with Italian Fig & Laurel would make for a decadent spritz, the bubbles serving to lift the aromatics. Lean into the fruit-forward profile by mixing up a classic Tom Collins, or go for an extra juicy version of a Clover Club. - imbibemagazine.com

...The nose is intensely citrussy, perhaps the boldest and juiciest I’ve yet encountered from Drumshanbo/Gunpowder. It pours out of the glass with notes of frozen Lemonade, dried lime peel, and grapefruit soda that are equally tart and sweet. At first, the sweetness is all citrus-driven, but as it opens, jammy – almost balsamic – notes emerge, delivering fig preserves, marmalade, and grape must. Undertones of pine sap reveal a hint of the Tuscan juniper, but it struggles against such a diversity of high tone fruits. With even more time to open, notes of melon and bay leaf add a greener dimension but don’t do much to curb the sweetness. It’s a saccharine but still fascinating bouquet, complex and impressively layered. There’s not quite as much complexity, or sweetness for that matter, on the palate, which is probably for the best. But it’s just as well-built and structured with a soft, inviting texture. The front of the sip is juniper-forward with gently peppery traces of gunpowder tea, licorice, and citrus peel, the foundational gin on display. A generous dried fig sweetness is woven throughout, complimented by dustier, resinous notes of fir branches and laurel, dried herbs and caraway. The finish is clean and bright with an easy fadeout of juniper berry, candied fig, black licorice, and grapefruit peel. It’s a lot to unpack but shows well on its own or in simple cocktails. I remain impressed by how much unique flavor Gunpowder consistently weaves into these special gins. What will they think of next? - drinkhacker.com

The GlenAllachie 12 Year Old Moscatel Wood Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $149. 99
    Bottle
    $1799.88 Dozen
    ABV: 48%

Initially aged for over 8 years in ex-Bourbon barrels and then finished for approximately 42 months in hand-selected Moscatel barriques (a Portuguese sweet dessert wine) imparting floral aromas and a luxuriously smooth texture. It's another decadent, fruit-forward Speysider, typical of GlenAllachie’s celebrated wood-finish lineup. Bottled exclusively for Europe, it's unlikely we'll see this one again! 48% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Other reviews... The Moscatel cask is mainly noticeable in the nose, where it pours out of the glass very sweet and sticky and light fruity (gooseberries, light grapes, star fruit, etc.). The fruit flavors integrate nicely into the light Glenallachie character without overwhelming the whisky. There is a slight spice in the finish, but it is much lighter than many of its distillery siblings. Overall, nice summer whisky with a lot of pressure and well-integrated alcohol. The cask influence is very restrained by Billy Walker standards and therefore somewhat unspectacular. - whiskybase.com

Waubs Harbour Port Royal Limited Edition Single Malt Australian Whisky (500ml)
    Tasmania, AUSTRALIA
    $250. 00
    Bottle
    $3000.00 Dozen
    ABV: 55.2%

This is Waubs' take on a cigar malt - traditionally a bold & robust fortified cask whisky that pairs well with a cigar. Matured firstly in ex-Apera Sherry casks, then finished in incredibly rare 70 year old Tawny Port casks from Liebichwein winery in the Barossa Valley. The result is a whisky infused with sweet fruits, butter & cream from the Apera casks and big, rich sultana, musk & nutmeg from the old port casks. It's all brought together with an underlying maritime character from the oceanside maturation that’s unique to this distillery. 653 bottles were produced at 55.2% Alc./Vol.

    $1199.88 Dozen
    ABV: 44%

A well-structured and very flavoursome whisky that captures the moreish character typical of the distillery. Generous vanilla-malt on the nose with a touch of orange spice cake, reflected on the palate, plush with malt, vanilla, toasted oak, a twang of spice and warming alcohol. Effortlessly juxtaposes American oak and malt richness to great effect, in a fashion that's becoming Loaded Barrel's signature style. 44% Alc./Vol. Tasted from a 25ml sample.

This Rosé style from Brokenwood has become a bit of a hit since its release about 10 years ago. It’s a combination of the Italian varieties Nebbiolo from the north and Sangiovese from further south. It’s light-bodied, pale in colour, and slightly savoury in character, yet the light red fruits on the palate and floral aromas are absolutely engaging. It even gets a little bit of foot stomping during the making, and a small portion is fermented in old oak. The result is a wine that comes together beautifully. Absolutely scrumptious and ready for current drinking. Lovely stuff. Drink 2025-2029.

Continuing the style of these '23 syrahs, this is a relatively elegant affair, red fruited and more medium in heft, though it’s marked by an intense mineral spine and is laced with North African spices. To me, the syrahs from this year most clearly show the direction this pinnacle estate is steering in, towards more transparency, more fragrance, more approachability. And that’s at no cost to quality and engagement. Rather the opposite. Compressed raspberry and cherry, red plum, a slew of spices, the tannins refined yet commanding, the carry both graceful and intensely flavourful. Lovely. Drink by 2036.

The 2023 Liandra Syrah hails from Blewitt Springs, and the wine is typically aromatic, resplendent with pressed flowers, exotic spices and black olive tapenade. On the palate, the fruit is intensely dark, shaped by the signature Clarendon Hills oak (i.e., meaty, savory, spicy), and yet it exhibits attractive levity. It's a beautiful wine, one that expresses with elegance in this cool vintage. 13.9% alcohol, sealed under Diam.

The result is a vodka of incredible purity with just a touch of sweetness and a softness that takes many people by surprise. A bouquet of baked boysenberries, mulberries and ripe cherries followed by a concoction of baking spices, caraway, vanilla and cardamom. Pumpernickel bread, pressed prune pits and black olive. The acidity is perfectly poised like a tiger ready to spring with silky tannins that draw out the length of flavour on the palate. It is wholesome in its generosity and yet svelte in its frame. A class act and astonishing for the price. Drink by 2028.

The 2021 Shiraz is a poised expression with bursts of blackberry, pepper and cherry compote aromas. At present, oak feels a little heavy against a backdrop of blackcurrant and licorice flavors. However, the density of flavor and impressive sustained length suggest this wine will come together—it just needs time. Drink 2030-2038.

Rich succulent dark raspberry, liquorice and dark cherry fruits carry a plush feel across the medium bodied palate. Scorched earth and peppered fennel elements lie underneath. The second release of a grenache under 'The Grower' label for Jason Schwarz. Vibrant magenta-splashed crimson with aromas of red cherry, plum and cranberry fruits cut with gingery spice, cola, dried meats, pressed flowers and earth. Some nice mocha tones flow in on the palate, which shows fine, sandy tannin grip and spiced plums on the exit. Drink by 2032.

This is the kind of wine that you have a pretty good feeling you’ll love, as soon as you twist open the screw cap. It filled the room with beautiful aromas of confectionery, raspberry, strawberry, red cherry, spice and violets (plus a touch of gaminess), with a colour that screamed youthful energy (something I needed after a long day of work). After a bit of air, some black pepper and darker cherry tones appear. The palate is oh-so-bright and cheerful, with a silky feel. It holds up incredibly well on the second night, hiding its 14.2% alcohol really well, and still has a lot of life left in it.

Bardstown Bourbon Co. 6 Year Old Single Barrel Cask Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml) - Whiskey Hunt Australia Selection
    Kentucky, UNITED STATES
    $169. 99
    Bottle
    $2039.88 Dozen
    ABV: 60.4%

Releasing small amounts of its own bourbon since 2019, Bardstown Distillery has quickly earned a place as one of the most exciting new producers in Kentucky. This high-rye six year old was 'love at first taste' and a unanimous choice for the Whisky Hunt crew, standing out for being "...super balanced, with a fudgey, clean caramel richness that just coats your palate." Produced from a mashbill of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley, the nose offers a classic bourbon sniff, rich with caramel, vanilla bean, orange-filled dark chocolates and hints of peppermint, mirrored on the palate with the addition of a little peach nectar. Fine chewy tannins control the sweetness, keeping the delivery taut and structured. Cocoa, a puff of smoke and subtle rye mintiness wrap up the finish in style. Showing almost effortless poise at high proof while offering the best of classic American profiles, this is a great barrel pick. 198 bottles were imported at 60.4% Alc./Vol. Tasted from a 15ml sample.

Notes from the importers... ... Aroma: Oak and orange zest upfront, with layers of brown sugar and light tobacco. Palate: Stone fruits and orange peel lead, followed by oak and brown sugar. A touch of barrel char adds depth, while a Werther’s-style caramel note softens and rounds everything out. Finish: Long, coating, and gently warming, with lingering caramel and spice.

Dark red in colour with black toned edges and a red to dark red hue. Spicy dark cherry and liquorice aromas intermingle with earthy incense and subtle dried herb notes. Mid weighted the palate features savoury morello and dark cherry as well as some liquorice fruit. Earthy incense like characters, delicate dried herb and spice elements sit in the background. Wild fermentation in stainless steel, whole berry, mlf, unfined. Sicily's bold, sweet fruited nero is making a real connection with Aussie drinkers. The fruit is the thing, so bright and red-berried in a world of cherries, raspberries and plums, with equally lively spiciness. There's another side to the wine, too, a smoked charcuterie side, earthy, savoury, dressed in wild herbs and red licorice and delivered on sinewy tannins and brisk acidity. And, boy, does it last on the tongue. Drink by 2029.

Notes from the producers... Sourced from Quinta dos Canais – the same Douro Superior vineyard that produces our acclaimed Vintage Ports – our LBVs are aged in large oak vats for four to six years before being bottled, ready to drink. This wine is a real crowd pleaser and is meant to be shared, enjoyed, and savoured. THE YEAR We experienced a very dry and mild winter and spring, and by late summer, the vines were in need of water to keep maturation on track. Fortunately, the near absence of rain from May to late August was balanced by cooler summer conditions, which helped mitigate the water shortage. In late August, some timely rain rehydrated the vines just before the harvest. Ideal conditions continued throughout September, with clear sunny days and moderate temperatures contributing to balanced ripening. Yields were above the ten-year average, which was a welcome change after the particularly small harvests of 2017 and 2018.

Tasting notes: Floral notes suggesting rockrose (gum cistus - a wild ower common in the Douro) and lavender, with a secondary layer of bright, red fruit. Lively and focused red fruit avours on the palate with a taut streak of acidity that holds everything in balance. Appealing aftertaste of black tea with tobacco and co ee notes. FOOD PAIRINGS Pairs perfectly with stronger, hard cheeses, or alternatively dark chocolate desserts such as mousse or tart. A fitting companion for after dinner conversations that stretch on long into the early hours.

The Glenturret 2025 Release 7 Year Old Peat Smoked Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
    Highlands, SCOTLAND
    $129. 99
    Bottle
    $1559.88 Dozen
    ABV: 46%

Historically, Glenturret's peated expressions have been marketed via independents under the 'Ruadh Mhor' label. They only recently introduced peated styles to the core range. Highlighting a well-balanced, "sweet and smoky" profile, the 2025 official release comes matured in American, European and refill oak and lands at a slightly higher ABV than some previous editions. We're also informed that 2024 saw the distillery near the end of its peated stocks, so if you're a fan of this style, it's essential to buy up now as the peated whiskies are discontinued as of 2026.

Glenturret Managing Director, Jennie Baernreuther says the decision to ditch peat was largely influenced by marketing challenges abroad. Some drinkers outside of Europe and the U.S. were confused by the distillery’s peated expressions. “When they like peat, they tend to go straight to Islay and they don’t really know about Highland peat,” she explains. “It’s very difficult for people to understand what it is, let alone be likely to choose Glenturret’s peated [whiskies].”  The decision to stop using peat also aligns with Glenturret’s ongoing sustainability efforts to reduce carbon emissions. 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Taste: Medium bodied and firmly dry. Peaty and malty with orchard and dried fruits wrapped in black wood smoke and dark chocolate. Dark red berries add depth. Finish: Medium long. Dry, fruity and peaty, now joined by a firmer spicy grip of assorted peppers and oak. Chocolate milk and a pinch of salt round off the close. Comment: Dark peat with salty sweetness. - whiskysaga.com

Four thousand five hundred and sixty bottles of this extraordinary wine were made from the 1997 vintage - that's a total of 380 dozen available for the entire world. The Best's Great Western Thomson Family Shiraz is an International Wine Icon. The vines were established in 1869 by Henry Best and 130 years later the wine enters the new Millennium as one of a wine lover's most desirable possessions.

ORIGNAL TASTING NOTE UPON RELEASE: Each November we anxiously await the release of this wine and with each successive vintage our expectations reach new levels, and yet in the back of our minds we have a nagging tall poppy syndrome - Viv Thomson surely can't produce a better wine than he did last year? He has to falter some time! Viv is too smart to be complacent, and as each vintage is blessed with spectacular fruit, he manages to create its perfect bottle expression. However, when nature turns against him as it did in 1999, there was no Thomson made - severe frosts saw to that. The 1997 Thomson is an expression of Shiraz fruit concentrate. This is almost the perfect wine. When tasted, it achieved the remarkable score of 99.3 out of 100, the highest ranking wine in memory at the time. Opaque crimson colour with mauve edges. Exceptional nose of violets, blackpepper, spice, liquorice allsorts, confectionary, vanilla and an aniseed end note. Totally mouthfilling. Concentrate of Shiraz! Flavours of blackpepper, spice, liquorice and blackcurrant, filling every cavity of the mouth. On the back palate the blackpepper flavour explodes and carrys through the after flavour in an exceptional long aftertaste that lasts for 5 minutes and more. Velvet smooth tannins. Perfect balance. AN AUSTRALIAN TREASURE AND A WONDERFUL PIECE OF HISTORY.

For over 140 years, Best’s has continuously been producing wine in the Great Western wine region of Victoria. Founded in 1866 by the Best family, the Thomson’s family purchased it in 1920 and the fifth generation continue to run it today. As one of Australia’s oldest continuously family owned and operated wineries they also have access to some of the oldest vines in Australia, producing extraordinary wines with great longevity, most notably their Bin 0 Shiraz and Thomson Family Shiraz.
Made predominantly from Best’s own vineyards, the Bin 1 Shiraz is an excellent introduction to the regional style of Great Western Shiraz.

Due to the age of this wine, some bottles may show signs of advanced maturity and we recommend enjoying it sooner rather than cellaring further.

The Great Western district around Ararat in Victoria produces some of Australia's greatest Shiraz wines and yet there are only 58 ha planted out to the varietal (in the old imperial measure that translates to 145 acres) that is an astonishingly small area given that 6600 ha are now planted in Australia.
Whilst the area produces exceptional Shiraz, from a viticultural point of view it would be hard to find a more difficult district to grow grapes. The soils at Great Western are naturally poor - requiring the addition of lime/gypsum to provide sufficient vine vigor. The rainfall is low - 590mm per year. This lack of rainfall also has an impact upon the yields which are considerably reduced. Worse still is the fact that the area is frost prone which can wipe out entire vintages. In spite of the struggle, Shiraz takes on its greatest expression here - all at a price. In 1995 the yields were down by a third and as a consequence the available stocks of the 1995 Thomson and 1995 Bin 0 Shiraz are very limited. Viv Thomson regards the 1995 Thomson Family Shiraz and Bin 0 Shiraz as the Classic Expression of Great Western - wines with a capacity to cellar for up to 20 years.
The 1995 Thomson comes from the original 15 rows of vines that were planted by Henry Best in 1867. The wine is living history and will only be available to a handful of very lucky customers as only 200 cases were produced. This is a rare parcel of Australian history. Old vines are extremely shy bearing, however, the level of concentration of flavour is exceptional.

Matured 40% in barrels (50% new), 45% in large-format barrels (also 50% new) and the balance in foudres, the 2025 Larcis Ducasse reveals an elegant, vibrant and gourmand bouquet of violet, dark berries, dark cherries and flowers, accented by delicate spicy notes. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and seamless, it’s built around a ripe—yet not overripe—core of fruit framed by velvety tannins, concluding with a floral, harmonious and ethereal finish. This is a pure expression of Larcis Ducasse and one of the most accomplished renditions produced here to date.

Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Larcis Ducasse is another exceptional wine from one of the most under-the-radar estates in Saint-Émilion. Dark red-fleshed fruits, rose petal, lavender, mocha, licorice, sage and graphite are all seamless in the glass. The 2025 marries power with finesse to a degree that is exceptionally rare. Lively acids and lifted floral overtones brighten the long, resonant finish. The 2025 spent 23-24 days on skins, a bit shorter than most years. Élevage takes place in 40% French oak barrels, 40% 500-liter barrels and 20% 25-hectoliter foudre. Wines from clay-based soils tend to be raised in barrique to soften them, while wines from limestone-rich soils are naturally more delicate and typically aged in larger-format wood. Larcis was one of the first properties in Bordeaux to introduce large-format wood, a choice that works so well for this site and these wines. This is a stellar effort from Technical Director David Suire, who has been at the helm since 2022. Tasted three times. Drink 2035-2075.

The 2025 Larcis Ducasse has a gorgeous bouquet already, with pure blackberry and cassis fruit, seamlessly integrated new oak, retaining focus and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied, with very fine lace-like tannins, perfectly judged acidity, bright acids towards the finish upholding tension and a silky texture that is totally disarming. Outstanding. Drink 2033-2060.

Well composed, balanced, seductive and vivid. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Well shaped, with an inspired and focus mid-palate. Flavorful and lingering finish.

A Merlot-heavy blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2025 Château Larcis Ducasse sports a dense purple hue as well as incredible aromatics of ripe currant and black cherry fruit intermixed with smoky tobacco, graphite, and crushed stone. Aged in a mix of 225-liter barriques (45%), 500-liter demi-muids (40%), and foudres (15%), it checks in at 13.8% alcohol with a pH of 3.5. Deep, rich, and full-bodied on the palate, it has a broad, layered mouthfeel, ripe, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It might end up being in the top handful of wines in the vintage.

Gorgeously alive blackcurrant aromas on the nose, so pure and expressive. Silky, a little sharp, the acidity is really the focus here with crystalline strawberry fruit. A bit tight, but the tension really drives the flavours forward with a sleek outline. So smooth, the tannins are excellent, I love the very softly chalky, but also slightly chewy aspect here all the while keeping that quite strict, straight, citrus-edged acidity. It’s a live wire. I like it a lot, needs time, but there’s energy and focus for sure. Piercing, mouthwatering, but ends crisp and grippy. 3.50pH. A yield of 40hl/ha. Drink 2030-2045.

Black cherries, plums, violets, licorice, espresso, caramel, black raspberries, licorice, and a hint of mint pop in the nose. Creamy, opulent, sweet, powerful, and also fragrant, fresh, and light on its feet. The palate is drenched in fruits, accompanied by a mineral essence that adds in the length, and the vibrancy to the long, intense finish. One of the wines of the vintage, this is in contention for the best vintage ever produced in the history of Larcis Ducasse. The wine blends 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc. 13.8% ABV. 3.5 pH. Harvesting took place September 10 - September 19. Yields were 40 hectoliters per hectare. Aging is taking place in a combination of New, French oak barrels, 500 liter barrels, and foundres. Drink from 2030-2065.

A blend of 50% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Petit Verdot, the 2025 La Lagune is gourmand and lively, offering up aromas of cassis, mulberries, flowers and lilac. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it's round and fleshy, has good depth at the core and is framed by velvety tannins, concluding with a long, delicate and floral finish. The estate appears to be moving toward a more precise expression, where purity of fruit and finer tannin definition come to the fore. This is one to follow.

The 2025 La Lagune is fabulous—one of the clear sleepers of the vintage. Bright red-toned fruit, tobacco, cedar, mint and dried flowers convey tremendous intensity with no excess weight. The 2025 is brisk, energetic and loaded with character. Don't miss it. Tasted three times. Drink 2030-2050.
    93-95 points
    Antonio Galloni - Vinous

The 2025 La Lagune has a quite ripe and sorbet-fresh nose, mainly red fruit infused with blood orange, even a hint of marmalade. Quite bright, and what seems like a low SO2 vinification. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, fine acidity, and a dash of black pepper towards the cohesive finish. It just maybe dips a yard or two before the finish line, but this will be a thoroughly enjoyable La Lagune. Drink 2031-2050.

Medium to full body, with notes of stone fruits and a clear sense of nerve, savory, with a stony texture and lip-smacking acidity. Tight and austere.

Red and black fruits, dried herbs, tobacco, and some spicy wood all emerge from the 2025 Château La Lagune, a great Haut-Médoc estate that's always worth your time and money. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a pure, graceful mouthfeel, fine tannins, and a good finish. It's a more understated, elegant, balanced, and almost pretty 2025 that should shine with just short-term cellaring. I'd happily buy a case.

Gorgeous aromatics – bright red fruit and pink flowers. Tannic and a bit compact right now with dark liquorice and salty stone aspects. Quite tight and firm, I like the cool freshness and purity of the crisp, blueberry fruit but the structure is at the fore right now and this has some compaction. Spiced liquorice and tobacco on the finish. A yield of 20hl/ha. 3.73pH. Drink 2033-2044.

The 2025 La Dominique is terrific. This is one of the best vintages of La Dominique I can remember tasting. Aromatic, silky and exceptionally polished, La Dominique impresses right out of the gate. Bracing saline notes extend the clean, reverberating finish. A sleeper. Drink 2033-2050.

The 2025 La Dominique is a significant step up from the Deuxième Vin this year: vivid red and black fruit, a touch of cedar and a more floral style, with violet and iris flowers. Fine delineation. The palate is well balanced, with rounded, velvety tannins, good depth and a judicious touch of white pepper sprinkled over the finish. This should drink well for 15 to 20 years. Drink 2030-2047.
    92-94 points
    Neal Martin - Vinous

Focused and curated, with very long, fine tannins that take the wine on a journey. Nicely ripe fruit with berry and light hazelnut undertones. Medium-bodied with a linear and long finish. Plenty of dark berry and dark cherry with lead pencil and flint. This is going to be an excellent wine in the bottle. 85% merlot with 15% cabernet franc.
    95-96 points
    James Suckling

Deep purple-hued, the 2025 Château La Dominique is a reserved yet clearly promising Saint-Emilion based on 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, raised in 50% new barrels, 35% once-used barrels, and 15% amphora. Ripe black fruits, smoky tobacco, gravelly earth, and graphite all define the nose, and on the palate, it's rich and medium to full-bodied, with ample mid-palate volume, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It checks in at 13.6% alcohol with a pH of 3.68 and is very much on the focused, dense, concentrated side of the vintage.

    Jeb Dunnuck

Another excellent vintage from this trusty estate. A cool crystalline nose, cola, liquorice, tar and blueberries. So clean and pure. Crisp and focused from the off, a cooling menthol and blackcurrant element, soft grippy tannins and the most beautiful juicy mid palate that just makes you smile. A happy wine. It’s powerful no doubt but in a restrained way without any heaviness. Vibrant and energetic. I love the focus, the freshness and relatively delicacy. Filing in the month but this is exceptional in terms of fruit purity. Very drinkable. A yield of 30hl/ha. 3.68pH. Drink 2030-2048.

Matured in 55% new barrels, the 2025 Haut-Batailley wafts from the glass with aromas of dark wild berries, spices, flowers and licorice, complemented by elegant notes of violet. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it’s built around a fleshy core of fruit framed by velvety tannins, concluding with a long, spicy and taut finish. A very fine wine in the making, it expresses a classical Médoc profile, notably with a fresh, subtly mentholated note on the finish. It's a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.
    92-94 points
Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2025 Haut-Batailley was picked between September 8 and 18, matured in 55% new oak. This has a more intense, bolder nose than the Verso, graphite-infused black fruit that is Pauillac through and through. Razor-sharp. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, but there is gentle and insistent grip. Sapid, an Haut Batailley that evokes images of the Gironde Estuary, this is a marvellous contribution to the vintage, perhaps the best under Jean-Charles Cazes. Drink 2031-2058.
    95-97 points
    Neal Martin - Vinous

The 2025 Haut-Batailley is a brooding young Pauillac with a bright future. Dark and brooding, with tons of vertical energy, Haut-Batailley is quite the powerhouse. Black fruit, leather, incense, licorice, dried herbs and mocha are some of the many aromas and flavors that gradually open in the glass. Readers will have to be quite patient, as the tannins are rather imposing, but there's more than enough fruit density to balance things out. Drink 2035-2075.
    93-95 points
    Antonio Galloni - Vinous

Medium- to full-bodied with well-placed tannins, a savory element and firm yet fine-grained tannins that add definition. Juicy and precise finish.

Graphite, lead pencil, and a beautiful core of red and black fruits all emerge from the 2025 Château Haut-Batailley, and this beauty showed consistently both times I was able to taste it. Medium to full-bodied, it has nicely integrated oak, a sunny, ripe, layered mouthfeel, and outstanding length. Based on 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, I love its overall balance and sheer charm, as well as its classic Pauillac style.
    93-95+ points
    Jeb Dunnuck

Wild floral scents on the nose with dark berry fruit – blackcurrants and plums. Some tobacco and liquorice too. Plump, wide, round and so smooth, velvety, not fleshy but still well textured so there’s ripeness, grip but also a cooling freshness that really elongates the expression. Lovely purity and clarity. A joyful wine, really smiley, happy and yet not lacking in anything. A soft sweetness and high acidity touch to the fruit. Drink 2030-2038.

As a result of the floods and heavy rains of 1974, long time Sevenhill winemaker Brother John May decided that his Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz were not suitable to be released as in individual wines so he decided to blend them together . Not long after bottling, well-respected Melbourne wine merchant Doug Crittenden tasted the wine and exclaimed it was the closest thing to Pomerol he had ever tasted! Doug knew Brother John and sent him a bottle of his favourite Pomerol wine to taste. Brother John could understand the similarities and was keen to learn more and why the Bordelaise blend Cabernet Sauvignon with other varieties to create their best wines. His research found that Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc each added another dimension to the intense berry characters and firm tannin structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot contributes violet perfume and has silky tannins that build a bridge to the tannin of Cabernet Sauvignon whilst Malbec imparts more colour and plum-like characters to the blend. The Cabernet Franc component is similar to Cabernet Sauvignon with pronounced aromas of raspberries, blackcurrants and violets. This inspired him plant some of the first of these vines in the Clare Valley which eventually lead to the creation of the St Ignatius blend. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
