2022 Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards HJ Shiraz
Rich, plush and velvety this is a power packed McLaren Vale Shiraz.
First produced in the year 2000, this is the twenty first release of Oliver’s HJ Shiraz. Fruit is sourced from the very best parcels of fruit on the Old Block vineyard planted in 1948 by HJ Oliver. Maturation took place in French oak (35% new) for a period of 18 months.
Magnificent density of colour featuring an impenetrable inky black heart and a very deep dark red black tinged hue. Heady ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and dark chocolate aromas engulf the olfactory senses followed by vanillin oak, mocha, subtle earth and spice notes. Rich, plush and velvety, concentrated blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and dark chocolate flavours carry an expansive feel across the opulently textured palate. Vanillin oak, earthy mocha and spice elements lurk underneath. Power packed, it has silky smooth tannins and a very long, super plush finish that’s seduction plus!
Drink over the next 8-10 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews…..
Hand picked from '48 vines, lightly crushed and fermented with native yeasts; raised in French hogsheads, 35% new. There are clear refinements in making, but those old vines speak in their deep baritone, the making respectful to the voice. Stewed dark plums, black cherries and berries, deeply ripe raspberry, Dutch cocoa, allspice, clove, fine threads of vanilla, roasted coffee bean and anise. It’s rich and silky, with a sophisticated tannic draw, the finish impressively long. Drink by 2037.
