Jack Daniels Barrel Strength program gives fans the opportunity to taste once-off selections at natural strength. Lately, they’ve been difficult to procure, partly because of Covid and long wait times, partly because of a lapse in supply of the distinctive glass bottles that they come in. Instead of waiting for more to arrive, we've diverted stocks from the European market. This barrel was handpicked by French retailer, La Maison du Whisky for part of their 65th Anniversary celebrations and is labelled as such. The flavour falls into the distillery's "Flavourful & Balanced" profile (the others being "Sweet Forward" and "Full bodied and Robust"). 64.5% Alc,./Vol.

Notes from LMDW...  this version named Flavorful & Balanced shows Jack Daniel’s in a particularly nuanced, profound and yet remarkably well-balanced light. Not only exotic, honeyed, powdery, empyreumatic, spicy, floral and balsamic, the palette of flavours and aromas also highlights the quality of the very fruity and creamy spirit.

Notes from LMDW...  this version dubbed Sweet Forward reveals Jack Daniel’s in a particularly rich and generous light. The notes of spice bread and pistachio cake and the wealth of fruit jams found in the palette of aromas and flavours are the perfect example of this. Divine fragrances of orange blossom provide the link between the nose and the palate.

It was once a privilege reserved for Jack Daniel's Master Distiller. Exploring the nuances of whiskey from a single barrel. Today, connoisseurs around the world can savor this experience on their own. Single barrel is another fairly recent addition to the Jack Daniel's stable. It differs in being the product of one unblended barrel, produced in miniscule quantities, bottled at it's peak. It is a deep amber coloured, full flavoured bourbon, stylistically true to the traditional Jack Daniel's Old No.7. Handsomely packaged in a decanter style bottle. 45%alc./vol.

Other reviews... Wine & Spirits Magazine wrote: '(Jack Daniel's) Single Barrel is a rich red-amber color. The nose, surprisingly smooth for its proof, is full of wood and peachy fruit. Its dry, woody, taste has a nice glow but no afterbite. Cut with water, the wood and the underlying corn flavors are more pronounced, and it has a lot of strength to the finish.'

... The Malt Advocate wrote: 'Jack Daniel's Single Barrel was deliciously rich and with great depth......It was nicely balanced too: not too sweet or dry.'

.. Nose: Almost stiffly phenolic: you can cut through the sweet roasty, oaky intensity. Palate: You less taste than eat this stuff... lovely oily middle with plenty of trademark burnt liquorice. Finish: The small grains bravely fight their way through, first rye then malt. But the rye returns with the liquorice for the surprisingly refined finale. Comment: Always an interesting brand.
    85 points -  whiskymag.com

Further notes... More fruit on this than most Jacks. Still plenty of liquorice and burnt toast. The taste is spicy and immediatly warming. Some real kick to this, with the blows softened by the sweetness of the corn and the surrounding thick oils. Very consistent finish with the sweetness fading, despite some rye input, then oak starting to make a stand. A characterful, rich whiskey, with plenty of corn sweetness and some excellent spice. 40% Alc/Vol 88 points - Jim Murray’s Whiskey Bible 2006

Test your Tasting Ability...Each bottle of Jack Daniel's Single Barrel is hand-labeled with its barrel number, giving whiskey connoisseurs the opportunity to test their own abilities. When you try Jack Daniel's Single Barrel for the first time, note the barrel number. Try to detect the different nuances -- a strong caramel or vanilla presence, perhaps; or maybe the toasted oak flavor or fruit drawn from the barrel wood captures your taste buds. Every batch is different and will present a unique flavour experience.

Nicks Wine Merchants exclusive selection. Less than 200 bottles imported.

Jack Daniels Barrel Strength program gives Australian fans the opportunity to taste once-off selections at natural strength. Lately, they’ve been difficult to procure, partly because of Covid and long wait times, partly because of a lapse in supply of the distinctive glass bottles that they come in. Our current barrel (#22-02030) was handpicked by Nicks Wine Merchants and is being offered to subscribers first. The flavour falls into the distillery's "Full Bodied and Robust" profile (the others being "Sweet Forward" and "Flavourful & Balanced"). Of the three, we preferred this for capturing all the classic JD characteristics: Lashings of vanilla, sticky date, toasted oak and maple cake, delivered with hints of liquorice bullets and blood orange zest, this time finished by an invigorating kick of black pepper and alcohol to justify its title.

It's a profile that's perhaps unique to this distillery, and one that continues to capture the imagination of followers internationally - testimony to a marketing campaign that's as brilliantly simple as it is varied and ubiquitous. Even for those who've never tasted Jack Daniels or never visited Lynchburg or Kentucky, the bottle just looks like it belongs on the dining table of a countrified American gentleman, evoking images of denim-clad distillery workers or characters from the 'Dukes of Hazard'. In this case, the liquid inside is just as evocative. Keep in mind, the aim of these selections is to deliver something far from your standard Jack. At 64.5%, even a small taste will be like sitting in a new V8 and revving it for a bit in the driveway - even if you don't go anywhere - the thrill is undeniable.

The Barrel Strength program only started in 2015, so it remains a very, very small sideline when you consider the general release Old No.7 black label now runs into 150,000,000 bottles per year. Barrels are typically sourced from the highest reaches of the rickhouse where the intense temperatures deliver the richest flavours. Each barrel will be slightly different from the next, with outturns around 200 bottles per barrel. Obviously, this is a release for every die-hard American whiskey fan and one that comes with a proven record as a collectable, further differentiated by a custom designed medallion neck-tag and strip label on the presentation box. As we've pointed out before, there are some outrageous prices online for similar offerings, so get in while the going rate remains sane. A follow up is unlikely to be repeated any time soon. Nashville, Tennessee, is often considered the capital of country music and is nicknamed “Music City.” Eighty miles south in the town of Lynchburg is an epicentre of another kind: the home of Tennesse icon, Jack Daniels. The brand is no stranger to live music, as testified by this limited edition No. 7 label that marks the whiskey’s connection and celebrates JD's 155th anniversary. Designed by Pentagram team led by Paula Scher, the label makes fanciful use of typography and adds graphics of guitars and trumpets and other related ephemera like CDs and musical notes. Scher’s signature style shines through but doesn’t stray too far away from the iconic No.7 label black-and-white label. Signature copy such as “Every Drop Made In Lynchburg, Tennesse” and references to No. 7’s awards are retained, including the iconic bottle shape. 43% Alc./Vol.

Jack Daniels have only had seven men oversee production throughout their history as America's oldest registered distillery. It's a line that runs back to Mr. Jack himself. To honour these men, JD have released the 'Master Distiller' series. This special bottling celebrates Frank Thomas Bobo: Master Distiller from 1966 to 1988 (pictured on the box). During the 1970s and most of the 1980s, Frank Bobo oversaw the historic rise of the Old No. 7 brand. Throughout his watch, he never made enough whiskey to keep up with demand; he was more concerned about making every drop according to the slow, time-honored process that the founder perfected, as reflected in his famous quote "I'd rather ask for folks' patience than their forgiveness." 43% Alc./Vol.

This special bottle is the sixth in the Jack Daniels Gold Medal Series and honors the 1954 Brussels Belgium Star of Excellence. This beautiful medal is as unique as the story behind it. The story goes that Reagor Motlow, one of Lem’s sons, received a letter about a whisky judging contest in Brussels, Belgium. He handed the letter to Herb Fanning, his right hand man and told him to take care of it. And indeed Mr. Herb did! He walked right out of the production line and pulled off the first three bottles and sent them on their way. According to Mr. Herb, when the folks from the advertising department found he had pulled whisky for the competition from the bottling line, they were a bit upset and asked him why he hadn’t looked for some special whisky for the judging. To this Mr.Herb exclaimed, “Why all Jack Daniels is special!” Later Mr. Herb, in recalling the story said he figured he might get fired over that, but about that time letter came announcing that Jack Daniels had won the star of Excellence!

The second letter seemed to set things right between Mr.Herb and the advertising team, because not only did Mr.Herb keep his job for many years before retiring, but he also appeared in quite a few Jack Daniels ads. Herb became one of Lynchburg’s best known and much loved citizens, and was a fixture on the Square until he passed away in 1997 at the ripe old age of 93. Mr.Herb’s lifelong love of and faith in Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey epitimozes the character of the people behind the Jack Daniel Brand. One only. 45%Alc./Vol.

    $11988.00 Dozen
    ABV: 43%
Easily one of the most impressive JD decanters we've come across. Originally released in 1971, this 1.5L version was produced for international markets in 1995. Complete with hang tag and original shipping box. Excellent condition. Very collectable. One only available.

"First released in 1971, the Maxwell House Decanter was considered one of the most beautiful of its time and oddly enough it was not Jack Daniel who was responsible for designing it. That honor instead went to Lem Motlow. The origin of this decanter’s name dates back to the year 1859 when Colonel John Overton Jr. began construction on a new hotel in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Ironically, had it not been for a night out on the town, this hotel might never have been built… Over the years, the Maxwell House Hotel became a well-known stopping point for famous people passing through the South. Lem Motlow knew of the hotel’s popularity and prestige and saw this as a business opportunity for the Distillery… To commemorate the decanter that Lem Motlow first presented to Colonel Overton, the Distillery released a half gallon replica bottle in 1971". - jackdanielsbottles.com

The first Gold Medal to be won by the Jack Daniel Distillery was a special one. Mr. Jack Daniel himself traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, for the 1904 World's Fair, and against all odds, he came back to Lynchburg with the 1904 Gold Medal for the world's best whiskey.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of this special honour, the Jack Daniel Distillery is releasing a limited quantity of the reproduction of the original 1904 Gold Medal decanter that Jack Daniel had helped to design. He commissioned several special bottles to commemorate notable events or accomplishments during his lifetime, but the 1904 Gold Medal decanter was particularly unique with its fluted body and neck.

The 100th anniversary bottle, a 1.5-litre decanter filled with 90-proof Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey, has the same fluted design and similar lettering of the one Mr. Jack had commissioned in 1904. Like all of Jack Daniel's commemorative bottles, the 1904 Gold Medal decanter can be registered at the distillery or online at JackDaniels.com. 45% Alc./Vol. No tasting notes available.

Back Label text: The first in the series is appropriately devoted to our distillery founder, Mr. Jack Daniel. Jasper Newton 'Jack' Daniel was born in 1850. At an early age Jack learned the art of whiskey-making from his friend, the Reverend Dan Call. Soon afterwards, Jack purchased Reverend Call's business and quickly became known in the area as a maker of fine whiskey. Mr.Jack soon moved his operation alongside our famed cave spring in Lynchburg, where the distillery still benefits from a continuous flow of iron-free limestone water. He also proved his commitment to quality by holding on to the charcoal-mellowing process when others abandoned it for cheaper methods of making whiskey.

This special bourbon is the fifth in a series of limited edition bottlings to commemorate the gold medals awarded to the Jack Daniel Distillery and its signature whiskey.

In 1915 the United States was at war with prohibition. Four years earlier Mr.Daniels had died. If commercial production was to begin anew at the distillery, the original quality of Jack Daniel’s would be difficult to repeat. However it was Jack’s nephew, Lem Motlow, who was bequethed the operation. At the age of 69 Motlow was stubborn enough to keep things as they were; he simply maintained his Uncle’s time honoured method of producing whisky, even remaining true to the painstaking and costly charcoal mellowing process. Confident in his course, Motlow decided to exhibit his whisky to the most prestigious testing body of his day. On November 17, 1915, Jack Daniels Whiskey was deemed unaltered and worthy of the Certificate of the Institute of Hygiene in London. Following this recognition, Lem continued to extend and rebuild. He died in 1947 and left the distillery to his four sons who later sold the family enterprise to Brown Forman in 1956.

Over the years, Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey has continued to make friends all over the world, earning numerous awards in International Competition: St.Louis Worlds Fair 1904; Leige, Belgium 1905; Ghent, Belgium 1913; Anglo-American Exposition, London 1914; Star of Excellence, Brussels 1954; and Amsterdam, Holland 1981. 43% Alc./Vol.

More from Jeff Arnett, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller... "As master distiller at Jack Daniel’s, I get the privilege of traveling to the top floors of our barrel houses in Lynchburg and hand drilling individual barrels. This provides me the rare opportunity to taste Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey in its purest form; unfiltered and uncut, I’m always amazed at the intensity of the aromas and the deep amber colors, and yet at the same time, the exceptional smoothness of the whiskey at this higher proof point. After years of thinking about and discussing a barrel proof offering from Jack Daniel’s, we believe that now is the perfect time to make this available to all of our friends around the world. I’m confident that everyone will be as impressed as I was the first time I tasted this unique form of Single Barrel whiskey.”

Created to celebrate the birthday of Frank Sinatra, who had he still been alive today, would have marked his 100th birthday in 2015. By way of a homage to one of its most famous drinkers, Jack Daniels is offering what is arguably its most prestigious and expensive whiskies ever - the Sinatra Century, drawn from just 100 barrels handpicked by master distiller Jeff Arnett and bottled at 100 proof.

Reportedly, the barrels were modified with interior grooves designed to “coax the whiskey to greater depths of white oak and give the whiskey a complexity of flavours – imparting Sinatra Century with a robust and refined taste.”

The packaging is super-slick, in fact it is without doubt one of the most impressive presentations we've seen from any spirit category. It includes a hardbound tribute book about Sinatra and the whiskey, as well as a replica of Frank’s tie clip that contains a digital, never-before-released complete concert recording of Frank at his best, on stage at The Sands Hotel and Casino in 1966. A truly remarkable opportunity to secure what is one of the highlights in JD's long stream of collector releases.

Other reviews... Rich and sweet on the nose: crème brûlée, unfinished oak furniture, circus peanuts, overripe warm melon. Corn puffs and sweet cornbread, vanilla cream, oak density, firm heat, and an affably full mouthfeel that doesn’t thin till the very end. Easily one of the best Jack Daniel’s whiskeys I’ve ever had, but the price is jaw-dropping even today (the package does include a previously-unreleased 1966 concert recording of Old Blue Eyes). 91 points

Jack Daniels produce two different Single Barrel whiskies - one standard single barrel, and the “Silver Select” bottled at 100 proof and sold only as an export product. Every bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel whiskey absorbs its own personality from the charred oak barrel it matures in, which in turn are influenced by thier location in the warehouses around Lynchburg. For instance, the flavour and dark amber colour of such whiskey comes, in part, from the barrels aging in the upper floors of the warehouses where the spirit enjoys a more ‘intense’ maturation.

Strictly speaking, Jack Daniel's is not considered a bourbon because it is charcoal filtered through sugar-maple charcoal, prior to aging, which gives it a different flavour profile. The process, called the Lincoln County Process, infuses a sweet and sooty character into the distillate as it removes impurities. However, the Silver Select bottling of Jack Daniels Single Barrel has less of this typical Jack Daniels character, being drier, richer, more complex and more traditionally bourbon-like. Packaged in an attractive silver carton. 50% Alc./Vol. No tasting notes available.

Notes sourced from www.jackdaniels.com - This special bottle is the seventh in our Gold Medal series and honors the 1981 Institut Pour Les Selections De La Qualité in Amsterdam. It had been 27 years since the Jack Daniel Distillery had entered a Gold Medal competition, and much had happened with the Distillery during that time. Within two years of winning the 1954 Star of Excellence in Brussels, Belgium, Jack Daniel’s had experienced a 100 percent sales increase as well as a change in ownership. Lem Motlow’s four sons- Reagor, Robert, Hap and Conner – sold the Distillery to Brown-Forman Corporation in 1956. Jack Daniel’s continues to experience tremendous growth, with volume increasing tenfold by the end of the 1970’s. Our Tennessee Whiskey was being sold throughout the world and had developed a loyal and diverse following, from bankers to bikers, from movie stars to rock stars. Despite all the changes, however, there was nothing different about our commitment to making our whiskey. And we thought it was important to demonstrate that commitment by entering the Brussels-based Monde Section Institut Pour Les Selections De La Qualité in 1981. The judges awarded Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey the institution’s top medal, the “Grand Gold Medal with Palm Leaves,” during ceremonies held that year in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Another quarter of a century has passed, and we still adhere to Mr. Jack’s philosophy in making sure our whiskey is of the highest quality: “Every day we make it, we’ll make it the best we can.”

45%Alc./Vol.

A very limited Australian Selection JD has surfaced, labelled as such on the front of the box and bottle. This was reportedly a barrel especially selected by Jack Daniel's master taster Randy "Goose" Baxter for a group of Queensland retailers as contest prizes in 2017, so it could / should differ from the standard single barrel liquid.

Carey Bringle is the proprietor of the Peg Leg Porker BBQ restaurant in Nashville. In between competitive grills, Bringle spends his time sourcing high-end whiskeys which he runs through an extra filtration using hickory charcoal to contribute added flavour and colour. These are marketed under a quirky label featuring a three legged pig (Bingle lost his leg to cancer as a young man). His grandfather was friends with Lem and Hap Motlow of Jack Daniels, and their whiskey was a standard at family events, hence the strong association with Tennessee whiskey.

Bringle's 12 year old follows a NAS and an 8 year old but is even more limited - just over 800 bottles, so it's all the more surprising that a small quanity has made its way to Australia. Made from a mash bill of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley, the label itself will be a talking point in any Bourbon collection. Flavourwise, it's been appropriately described as the ultimate BBQ whiskey. 46.35% Alc./Vol.

Tennessee whiskey is just that: whiskey distilled and matured in Tennessee. It's essentially Bourbon, however purists will argue it's different due to an additional step in the production process. Before it's put into barrels, the distillate is filtered through maple charcoal, a technique known as the Lincoln County Process, which is claimed to improve the flavour of the spirit. Well known brands include George Dickel and the ubiquitous Jack Daniels.
