2017 A.D. Rattray Cask Collection Cawdor Springs (Royal Brackla) 8 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 58.7%Named for the natural springs supplying Royal Brackla, this whisky spent over five years in ex-bourbon wood followed by nearly three years in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. The result is a moderately sherried, contemporary style with a spritely character, initially green and grassy before the sherry introduces some lovely orange spice cake and zesty peel notes. More expressive with each taste, developing impressive depth and drive at the finish, this vibrant Brackla still has a few rough edges, smoothed out by minimal water. 283 bottles produced. 58.7% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Delicate dried fig, toasted oak and soft orange marmalade. Palate: Spiced marzipan, gentle plum and warm leather. Finish: Classic sherry notes linger with toasted nut and subtle orchard fruit.

2006 A.D. Rattray Cask Collection Macduff 18 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$179. 99Bottle$2159.88 DozenABV: 54.3%Macduff, a seaside distillery on the Moray Firth, produces a nutty, subtly sulphury spirit shaped by its distinctive stills. Three years finishing in a Bajan rum cask from the West Indies Rum Distillery results in a single cask that's approachable and lively, with a touch of maritime charm. Supple, rounded and well balanced at natural strength, though some heat and spice assert at the finish alongside a tart berry character. It is relatively simple for a whisky of this age, however the overall effect is pleasing. The emphasis remains on cereals and malt, becoming fruitier and a little tropical with water. 189 bottles produced. 54.3% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Notes from the producers... Nose: Sweet syrup, ripe mango and caramelised coconut. Palate: Juicy red berries, raspberry marzipan and gentle spice. Finish: Lingering sweet fruitiness with a bright, candied lift.

A.D. Rattray Cask Orkney 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Orkney Islands, SCOTLAND$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 46%A mystery Orkney. Could it be Scapa? The notes from the bottlers describe a peppery-smokey character, so it's the other. Not a mainstream Highland Park that most will be accustomed to, which is what you want from an independent. At first, mezcal-like, and subtle smoke indeed, instead, a rather fresh, grassy, crisp expression with trace peat. Fascinating and strangely compelling compared to the official bottlings, once attuned to the right amount of water it makes for a good aperitif. Otherwise, add an ice cube or two, release the oils and richen up the experience. Mimimal water is required. One reviewer sums it up as "...a great summer whisky. Lovely honied malty waxy notes; a good ex-bourbon maturation". It's out of the ordinary for the age statement, but at this price and ABV, grabbing a bottle is't much of a gamble. 46% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.
Other reviews... Nose: A freshness opens the dram, before vanilla, coconut, lemon peel, and some red berries — think raspberries. Palate: That freshness continues alongside cream soda, orange and lemon peel, some apple skin, blossom honey, brioche, and just a hint of sweet spice like ginger powder. Finish: Decent length on the finish here without too much tannin. Comment: Sweet and mellow with lots of sweet bourbon-cask character. - whiskymag.com
Notes from the bottlers... Colour: Butterscotch gold. Nose: Clover honey, Parma violet, ripe peach and wild heather embers. Palate: Grilled plum, old-fashioned barley sugar, noble hop and caraway. Finish: A prolonged peppery smoke lifted by tart citrus and foraged pine.

A.D. Rattray Cask Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Islay, SCOTLAND$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 46%Double Gold Medal Winner in the 2016 & 2017 San Fransisco World Spirits Competition.
Yet another independent bottler hits Australian shores, boasting a strong reputation for quality. Founded by Andrew Dewar Rattray in 1868, the company began trading as an importer of French wines, Italian spirits and olive oil. More importantly, the firm established itself as a specialist in the field of blending and storage of malt and grain whiskies. After several changes in ownership, it returned to the family and is presently owned by Tim Morrison, previously of Morrison Bowmore Distillers and fourth generation descendent of the founder. The company’s resurgence came about in 2002 with the bottling of a ‘new’ Stronachie. In April 2004, using his extensive industry knowledge, Morrison then bottled a selection of his own handpicked whiskies and the A.D. Rattray Cask Collection was born. Plans for their new Glasgow-based distillery were approved in 2014.
Peated to 35ppm, Cask Islay is assembled from up to twenty casks from the one distillery, mostly x-bourbon barrel matured, though some ex-sherry hogsheads are reportedly in the mix. It is unashamedly Islay in its semi-sweet, sooty peat character that's complexed by suggestions of orange cake, cough lozenge, hints of smoked fish and later, banana cake. Because this series is bottled at 46% with zero chill filtration, the whiskies are surprisingly concentrated. Here, the medium dry, spicy profile features sooty malt and vanilla with some apparent sherry influence towards the finish as this gets more dried fruit-like. There's also real staying power with Fisherman's Friend carrying the aftertaste. A sit-back-and-relax island treat at a very reasonable price. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... Does what it says on the tin. 91.5 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2022
...A.D. Rattray! Glad to meet one of their recent bottlings, I had thought they were, well, gone. Or busy with the Outer-Mongolian market. We had an early batch of their Cask Islay in 2011, and thought it was pretty good (WF 83). Colour: white wine. Nose: reeks of young Caol Ila, which can’t be bad news. Apples, garden bonfire, seawater, whelks, oysters, fresh almonds, and lemons. There. Mouth: purrfekt, with some impeccable ashy smoke (very CI indeed) and more almonds, lemons, apples, and those tiny green crabs that people would rather throw into wild broths and soups. Oh and apples, naturally. Okay, I had mentioned apples before. Finish: rather long, very ashy, kippery, and with apples and lemons in the aftertaste. Comments: a great batch despite the youth and the (relative) simplicity. Not much depth, but all the rest is perfect. Welcome back, A.D. Rattray! 84 points - whiskyfun.com

Aberlour 16 Year Old Double Cask Matured Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - 43% bottlingSpeyside, Highlands, SCOTLANDReduced from $189.99$149. 99Bottle$1799.88 DozenABV: 43%Aberlour 10 year old is a huge seller in France, with owners Pernod-Ricard promoting it heavily. Based on its popularity, there've been a number of distillery releases exclusive to the French market. This 43% abv bottling is one (note that the more widely distributed equivalent is a 40% bottling). The 16 year old echoes the flavours of Aberlour's 12 year old, with both Sherry and Bourbon casks at play. The slightly higher ABV promises a little extra depth.
Other reviews... Voluptuous and mouthwatering in some areas, firmer and less expansive in others. Pretty tasty in all of them. 88.5 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2021
...It starts gently with sweet red fruits: plums, peach, raisins, and blood orange, garnished with honey. Dark chocolate joins the mix. Spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves add a touch of zest. A hint of mint and nuts is noticeable. The influence of wood gradually develops, providing pleasant bitter notes. Despite its relatively low alcohol content of 43%, it feels very oily on the palate. - whiskybase.com

91 points (Exceptional) - tastings.comFounded on its current site by James Fleming in 1879, the village ‘Aberlour’ (Gaelic for Mouth of the Chattering Burn) became nationally famous in the 19th century for its orphanage. The town has preserved much of its historical character. Original houses, built of stones taken from the bed of the Spey, mingle with more recent buildings and landscaped public gardens. Aberlour's spectacular setting on the banks of the Spey makes it easy to see what made it such an attractive place to found a community and a distillery. Built alongside the Lour burn, Aberlour uses pure spring water that rises through peat and granite from Ben Rinnes. The St Drostan Well stone was erected to mark the location of the spring, which was used by St Drostan to baptise the local population in the 7th century, and is also featured on Aberlour’s label.

Andre Clouet Un Jour de 1911 Grand Cru Brut ChampagneChampagne, FRANCEReduced from $185.00$149. 99Bottle$1799.88 DozenABV: 12%Closure: CorkWhen it comes to Pinot Noir in Champagne, the grand cru villages of Bouzy and Ambonnay rank amongst the greatest in the region. And one of the most talented exponents from here is the Clouet family based in Bouzy. Champagne Andre Clouet have been producing Champagne for over two centuries, and under the guidance of Jean Francois Clouet the wines have never looked better. While his wines are exuberant and concentrated, Jean Francois manages to counter this with immaculate finesse and detail on the palate.
Un Jour de 1911... is a call back to the golden age of France in the early 20th century. Inspiration comes from a precious few bottles of Clouet Champagne that were uncovered after spending 80 years hidden in a small cellar.
Other Reviews....
The NV Un jour de 1911... is another 100% Bouzy Pinot Noir with an ancient label design. The shining golden-colored cuvée combines ripeness, complexity and finesse with intensity and elegance on both the nose and palate. It's a powerful and rich yet very fine and balanced Champagne with great freshness and complex length. It is juicy and intense but also highly delicate, and its mineral tension and persistent finish make it a first-class wine for elaborate dishes. A great Champagne, with a label that doesn't give any more detailed information regarding vintages or disgorgement date, but we know it's always a 50/50 blend of three vintages (including one great millésime at least 10 years old) and reserve wines from a solera system. I tasted the wine as a Brut with Clouet's German importer in Bremen. You shouldn't drink it too early, as it would be a waste of its talents. Drink 2021 - 2033.

Stephan Reinhardt - Wine Advocate (Apr 2021)A rich and expansive champagne with tons of mature aromas of dried fruit (apricots!) and candied orange. Teeters on the edge of decadence, but has enough vitality to stay on the right side of that line. Plenty of textural complexity on the palate and a long, chalky finish that keeps giving and giving. Spot-on balance. Drink or hold.

Appleton Estate Nassau Valley Casks 21 Year Old Rum (700ml)JAMAICAReduced from $250.00$184. 99Bottle$2219.88 DozenABV: 43%This is the new version of the 21 year old classic from Appleton, arriving in an updated bottle and box presentation. First launched in 1996 and named after the heart of Jamaica, the Nassau Valley, the reimagined expression reveals "...a floral scent that develops into a unique mature nutty bouquet, with notes of vanilla, orange peel, nutmeg, almond, coffee and cocoa for a long, dry and luscious finish."
The blend of rare and hand-selected pot and column still rums have all been tropically aged for a minimum of 21 years. Jamaica’s Nassau Valley, 400 ft above sea level, surrounded by limestone hills ranging up to 2,000 ft, provides beautifully filtered waters to the Estate-harvested cane.
“Jamaica is a place unlike anywhere else in the world,” notes Master Blender, Joy Spence. “With Appleton Estate 21 Year Old Nassau Valley Casks, we wanted to celebrate our home in an elevated, modern way with a new sleek, sophisticated version...”
Rooted in traditions that go past the American Revolution, not much has changed at Appleton since the 18th century: water is still sourced from a spring on the estate, small batch pot distillation remains the norm, done on-site using a proprietary yeast strain propagated from the estate-grown cane. The estate's versatile blends have been quietly changing the perception of rum, with homes and bars across the country embracing the rum renaissance. 43% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Medium mahogany color. Archie Rose Triple Smoked Single Malt Australian Whisky (700ml)Sydney, New South Wales, AUSTRALIA$129. 99Bottle$1559.88 DozenABV: 46%This will be one of the more interesting Australian Whisky releases for 2026. After lengthy experimentation, Archie Rose have created a 'peated' style. Rather than following the well worn path of traditional Scotch where smoke only touches the grain, this whisky has native Stringybark wood-smoke infused into the barley, the cask and the water. The production process makes for a strong point of difference to previous Aussie distillers who've experimented with native woods for aging. Instead of exploring oak alternatives, a little ingenuity has resulted in an evocative Australian smoked character unlike anything else in the world.
With some wonderfully sweet grain and rich oak notes at its core, Stringybark smoke ramps up the complexity, not only contributing a dry, cured meat and chimney soot character, but also bringing an added layer of freshness that hints at baked citrus, faint menthol and herbal teas. The palate repeats those notes in a slightly sweeter, more definitively smoked way, with a lingering dry, ashy quality, followed by smoked dark chocolate, more cured meats, warming peppers and a mezcal-like aftertaste. Comparisons with Highland peaters such as Ardmore and Inchmoan are hard to resist, but this beats its own drum - and may well be a world first. 46% Alc./Vol.
Notes from the producers... Nose: Opens with notes of artisan smoked bacon, campfire, golden syrup-drizzled damper, roasted macadamia and barbeque charred lemon. Another pass reveals royal icing, tinned pineapple and hibiscus. There is a distinctive nuttiness present which is balanced by smoke and the suggestion of salinity. Palate: The palate is well structured with a honeyed sweetness and baked citrus flavours that make wait for a smokiness that builds in intensity towards the expansive finish. The dry, wood scented smoke is laced with jasmine and geranium, as well as salt and cured meats. Finish: The lingering flavour of charred wood is present. A uniquely Australian whisky for lovers of smoke and flavour explorers.

Ardbeg Uigeadail Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Islay, SCOTLANDReduced from $174.99$149. 99Bottle$1799.88 DozenABV: 54.2%"...an incredibly complex Islay whisky... - whiskyadvocate.com
Voted by the 120,000+ strong Ardbeg Committee as their favourite Ardbeg.
Launched in 2003, “Uigeadail” (the loch from which all Ardbeg water flows) is a cask strength, heavily peated Ardbeg produced from a mix of bourbon casks and older sherry casks. The combination gives the whisky a nice texture and sweet, smokey finish. Our tasting was from a batch released in 2010. The whisky offers a generous, sherry-influenced nose of dried apricot and marmalade over menthol and smouldering cedar smoke; ripe green apple notes emerging with time in the glass. The palate is off-dry, boasting rich, dark chocolate flavours, becoming heavier and fudge-like with orange chocolate and sweet cereals, the peat continually reinventing itself - at once dry and sooty, then tarry and finally more maritime at the finish. Boiled lolly and mixed spices run through the aftertaste followed by a subtle spearmint fade. The balance at cask strength is excellent. Serious stuff for peaters! 54.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... With the Ardbeg 17 year old off the market, it’s nice to see a new Ardbeg in the line-up. Uigeadail costs about the same as the Ardbeg 17 did but, with Uigeadail, you’re getting a much more interesting whisky. Uigeadail consists of a marriage of younger whisky (from 1990 and 1993) with much older whisky matured in sherry casks. The marriage works exceptionally well, with the younger whiskies providing the classic Ardbeg intensity many of us have come to expect, while the older whiskies contribute depth, maturity, and complexity. And bottling the whisky at cask-strength without chill-filtration ensures that none of the flavors are stripped out. This is an incredibly complex Islay whisky, with its bonfire smoke, brine, and peppered olive notes balanced by a taming sweetness of vanilla, marshmallow, and toffee. Interwoven notes of candied fruit and sugared almonds round out the palate. Incredibly long finish. 94 points - whiskyadvocate.com
A curious Ardbeg with a nose to die for. Some tinkering - please guys, as the re-taste is not better - regarding the finish may lift this to being a true classic. 89 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2019
...Uigeadail is quite different from the 10 Year Old because it is blended from both bourbon and sherry casks, including some older stock. The sherry influence alone makes for a vastly different experience, starting with the nose, which dampens the smokiness with notes of roasted nuts, citrus, and an earthy, leathery character that simply feels like history. The palate offers a rather different experience, which adds to the curiosity and interest, melding smoke with notes of well-roasted meats, walnut shells, pipe tobacco, and cloves. The finish is lengthy and brooding — aided by the considerably higher alcohol level — a lingering reminder of how this Ardbeg may be an entirely different beast, yet just as good as the 10. - drinkhacker.com
...My God, the first Uigeadail, it was so good back then! But we were in 2004 and we tasted it with Stuart Thompson on site (while smoking cigarettes in the warehouses, different times, different customs. No, just cigarettes). The last Uigeadail we tasted, a 'circa 2017', was still very good (WF 85), but far from the early batches which tended to surf around 92 points. Colour: gold. Nose: it's good, effective, very peaty of course, again with barbecue and ash notes, a sherry influence more discreet than in the past (green walnuts), and some broken branches. Some sap, in short. With water: very, very good, maritime, with very nice notes of barbecue on the beach, when we grill both fresh fish and marshmallows. Not together mind you! Mouth (neat): it's very good, very powerful, with much more substance than in the Corryvreckan. It almost tastes like smoked walnut oil, just like there's smoked sesame oil. In fact, we can find a bit of that too in this Uigeadail. Also some touches of canned peach, which always works. With water: milk chocolate and roasted peanuts. What wouldn't I do for some roasted peanuts!? Finish: long and a bit more drying which is really not unusual. Very nice final finish on oysters and candied citron, plus a bit of walnut oil and chocolate. Comments: oh yes, it talks! Very nice balance in this recent batch, the flame is alive and glowing. 88 points - whiskyfun.com
Nose: Intensely smoky. Dry, clean, tangy smoke. Like standing downwind of the barbecue while steaks are char-grilled on the beach. Palate: Firm, very smooth, then explodes on the tongue. Finish: Hot. Alcoholic. A shock to the system. Comment: The elemental opposite of the sophisticated Lord of the Isles. RATING: 9.25 points - Michael Jackson,whiskmag.com

Arran 10 Year Old Arran Barley Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Isle of Arran, SCOTLAND$149. 99Bottle$1799.88 DozenABV: 50%Several distilleries are showing renewed interest in the varieties of barley they use. Arran joins that list with an 18,000-bottle limited edition made from Optic barley grown at Bellevue Farm by the Currie family. The variety has been used for malting in breweries and distilleries since the mid-1990s and is known for its biscuit-like aromas. Maturation is the same as the standard 10 year old (first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill sherry hogsheads), and it's very much in the style we're accustomed to (and love) from this distillery - full and creamy textured - with hints of tea biscuits and light orchard fruits on the nose, the flavours suggesting crisp red apples and light vanilla, bittersweet oak, cocoa and just a little more prickle from the 50% ABV. It's hard to say whether the Optic barley is better. What is evident is the wonderfully rounded way the malt oils-up and coats the tongue in a manner that distinguishes it from most young whiskies. For comparison, it's also similar to several higher-strength Glenfiddichs we've tasted. New batches will be released annually with variations depending on the crop type, cask types and volumes available. Bottled non chill-filtered.
Other reviews... Nose: Some classic Arran notes. No loud cask notes which is nice - gives the distillate more space to shine. Taste: Feels balanced, with a nice, thick structure for a 10yo. I tried this as a starter at a whisky festival and it was absolutely perfect for that purpose. The bottle cost seems reasonable compared to the quality. Finish: The barley stays for a while. There is a Glenfiddich-like shy touch of smoke in the back. - whiskybase.com

Aultmore of the Foggie Moss 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLANDReduced from $299.00$149. 99Bottle$1799.88 DozenABV: 46%Launched in 2015 as part of John Dewar & Son's 'Last Great Malts' range, there have been two variants of Aultmore 18 year old on the market. Other reviews... so satisfying when the sweetness and spices of a malt combine for near perfect harmony. Flattens towards the finish, but this is high grade malt.
94.5 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2020You really got to like the lovely new all-white packaging, that sits right between lovely Laphroaig and lovely Balvenie. Colour: straw. Nose: IPA! Lagunitas or something – I’m still dying to find Lagunitas in France, but I digress – plus some toasted malt, apricot pie that spent a little too much time in the oven, some kind of grassy leather, and some green cardamom and green tea. Rather less fruity than I had expected. Mouth: solid body, and a much balanced arrival, between apples and juicy golden raisins, plus a touch of banana. Rather goes on what we already found in the nose, that is to say green tea, and even raw barley, not too ripe. A feeling of sugarcane (white rum agricole) and, once again ale that reminds me of the 12. Finish: rather long, always quite toasted and grassy at the same time, with some honeyed apple juice in the aftertaste, as well as a salty/peppery touch. Comments: less easy-easy than I had expected, this is pretty firm and even tense. Kind of ‘un-official’, you’d almost believe this is a small-batch bottling by some good indie bottlers. 85 points - Serge Valentin, whiskyfun.com

Friuli, in the far northeast of Italy, has a reputation for making the country's best white wines. Winemaker Justin Bubb explains, "The key to this region is the difference in diurnal temperature. In the growing season the days are very warm but the nights freezing. This allows a nice, long ripening and wonderful aromatics for the white wines".
From a 30-year-old site in San Martino al Tagliamento, near Pordenone, the vineyard sits at the base of the Alps and the soils are a mix of clay and alpine gravel from alluvial deposits.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a watery hue. Lifted pear and red apple skin aromas drift through the nostrils followed by some lime, faint dried honey and wet stone notes. Sourced from Bannockburn estate vineyards spanning plantings from 1976 to 2016, this Chardonnay draws on diverse sites including Olive Tree Hill, Winery Block, Stuart Block, Grigsby and Kelly Lane, with clonal material P58, Bernard 76, 95 and 96.
The fruit was pressed as whole bunches and fermented naturally in a mixture of French hogsheads and puncheons (25% new). This year, 70% of the blend went through malolactic fermentation, and the wine spent 10 months maturing on lees with no stirring.
Brilliant pale straw colour with straw green highlighted edges and a watery hue. There are yellow stone fruits characters here, and an array of sweet spice notes, but it’s the flesh, the rush and the juice of grapefruit and ripe pear flavours that both dominate and seduce. This wine really does make you dive quickly in for more. There’s a subtle smokiness, some tonic and mineral-like notes, and an especially noticeable (extra) linger to the finish. This is one of those wines where the acidity itself feels flushed with flavour. The aftertaste then adds some pebble-stone characters, just because it can. What a wine. Drink 2026-2034+

Sourced from estate vineyards planted between 1976 and 2007—including Olive Tree Hill, 10 Rows, Stuart Block, Ann’s Block and De La Terre—this Pinot Noir draws on clonal material MV6, 114, 115 and 777 across varied site expressions. Handpicked parcels were wild fermented separately with ~20% whole bunch inclusion, then matured in French hogsheads and puncheons (25% new oak) for 10 months on lees prior to blending.
Dark red black tinged heart with a dark red hue. Fragrant dark cherry, rhubarb and clove scents are trailed by whiffs of violet, brambly cedar, forest floor and spice notes. Rich dark cherry and strawberry fruits power across the mouth filling palate with a supple textural flow. Rhubarb, subtle anise, bramble, forest floor and spicy dried herb elements unfold across the back half. From vines planted between 1976 and 2007; 20% whole bunches, 25% new oak. A lovely Bannockburn pinot noir. Opens with perfumed aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, rose bush and subtle cardamom and nutmeg spice. Medium bodied on the palate, with an excellent core of fruit, yet it's equally light on its feet. The tannins are sinewy and in perfect harmony with the fruit. Very long. Delicious now and will be even better in six to 10 years. Drink by 2037.

Philip Rich - James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionThe first word that came to mind was unsweet. I’m not even sure that’s a word. This is a particularly earthen Pinot Noir with root vegetable characters running through black cherry, chicory, woodsmoke and fistfuls of roasted spices. I’m tempted to call this Pinot Noir for grown-ups but that’s a silly phrase so I’ll refrain. We get beautiful, fine-meshed, grapey tannin here, and sinewy characters, and a genuine, savoury push of flavour through the finish. I’m as certain as I can be that this wine will mature well. We have a winner here. This is crisp and elegant and textural and long, and throughout it just simply tastes good. It’s as good or better than any Bellvale Chardonnay I’ve had previous. It tastes of pears, nectarines, oyster shells and grapefruit, with hay, cedar and toast notes layered over the top – the latter in the most subtle way possible. Bereche et Fils Brut Reserve ChampagneChampagne, FRANCEReduced from $155.00$130. 00Bottle$1560.00 DozenABV: 12.5%Closure: Diam CorkVincent and Raphaël work with a range of Champagne terroirs, mostly in the north of the region near Reims. The quality starts with thoughtful viticulture and low yields from a high percentage of old vines many planted in the 1960s and 1970s. Since the brothers took over the operation from their father in 2004, all chemical herbicide use was stopped and returned to labour intensive manual cultivation of their vines. In the cellar they employ long, natural fermentations and extended aging on lees. Parcels are vinified separately, and three-quarters of the production spends time in 350-litre barrels, while the reserve wines are held in demi-muids of 600 litres. Unusually, bottle aging is mostly under cork for the second fermentation (tirer à liege). The brothers believe this allows slightly more oxygen to get to the wine, resulting in Champagnes with finer bubbles and seamless texture. None of the wines go through malolactic fermentation. Bottling occurs without filtration and disgorgement is still done entirely by hand.
Please note: Disgorgement dates can vary. Please contact the store if you would like to check which disgorgement is currently available.

The NV Brut Réserve is the foundational wine at Bérêche, and the latest release is based on the 2022 vintage, incorporating a 40% perpetual reserve component, uniting the freshness of the northern slopes and the maturity of the hot, dry vintage. Fruit for this wine comes from vineyard sites across the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de Marne, and the Champagne was disgorged in October 2024 with six grams per liter dosage. Bursting from the glass with aromas of nectarine, orange zest and brioche, it's medium- to full-bodied and ample, with considerable density, underpinned by racy acidity and concluding with a chalky finish. The Brut Réserve has seen the most refinements in recent years as it no longer incorporates tailles and now features Chardonnay from Trépail; technically, this means that the pH is lower and the acidity is higher. It’s one of the most reliable entry-level NV bottlings on the market.

Grampians riesling at its very best. It defines varietal intensity but so too a fine and utterly delicious delicacy of touch. Aromatic, spicy, apple and lime scented with a lemon-lime essence quality, almost crystalline, that impresses and resonates deep. The 2025 Riesling comes from cuttings from the mother vines planted on the property (still producing, mind you) planted in 1866. It's an incredibly special site in Victoria, and they are—as an unnecessary aside—responsible for my absolute favorite Pinot Meunier, anywhere: the Old Vine Pinot Meunier. So here, the 2025 Riesling leads with lime and lilac, green apple, nashi pear and saline acidity. This is gorgeous. I love it. The acidity will preserve it for a long time to come. It drinks nicely now too, however. 11.5 % alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2026-2036.

Bollinger's 2015 Brut Grand Année is an intriguing wine in that is clearly reflects the decision to pick on the later side in order to avoid vegetal notes derived from the mismatch of alcoholic and phenolic ripeness. "Balance was hard to achieve in 2015," Chef de Cave Denis Bunner notes. "At 10% in sugar, the fruit was simply not ripe. We had to wait to reach the optimal window of ripeness." Bunner also opted to increase the Chardonnay, so the blend is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, as opposed to the more typical 70/30 blend, with more Verzenay than Aÿ in the Pinots. Dried citrus peel, sage, menthol, sage, tangerine peel and spice build with some coaxing. Light tropical overtones develop with aeration. There's real density and textural richness here. This will be a fascinating vintage to follow. Stylistically, it is the complete opposite from the much more linear 2014 that precedes it. Dosage is 8 grams per liter.

JamesSuckling.comA forward vintage for La Grande Année, with warmth evident in its roasted orange, Comice pear and Mirabelle plum, all polished with a sense of savoury maturity that is very Bollinger at heart. There’s a little more oxygen influence seemingly at play than in the 2014, with brine, nuts and a little dried leaf character already taking this far beyond fruit. The food-friendly chewiness of 2015 is there, but the mousse is supple and the Chardonnay brings the wine to a close with a fine, cooked lemon snap. This will start to show its best integration from 2025 onwards, although it is open for business now. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from the Montagne de Reims, Grande Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs, all fermented in small oak barrels and disgorged in May 2023 after seven years on lees. This Springbank novelty could easily be mistaken for the Campbeltown Loch Blend, as the label looks almost identical - only the age statement has been dropped. It is, actually, a little more exciting than that. Instead of blending malt with grain whisky, Springbank have re-invented the label using Campbeltown single malts sourced from the district's five distilleries (or distillates): Unpeated Kilkerran forms the base, followed by Springbank, Glen Scotia, Hazelburn and Longrow. The upgrade promises a genuine celebration of Campbeltown character, and the distillates all get a showing - from the dirtiness of Glen Scotia to the minerality and citric fruits of Springbank, the chalkiness, saltiness, and florality of Kilkerran, to the peat of Longrow and the clean honeyed notes of Hazelburn. All were drawn from ex-Bourbon and x-Sherry casks and combined and bottled at Springbank, although the whisky's deep colour suggests more of the latter.
If you want to get your head around Springbank without emptying your wallet, Campbeltown Loch is about your only option. The peated elements do most of the heavy lifting, balanced by a lovely malt and sherry richness. That combination, capped off by a salivating salt and pepper tang recalls certain peatier bottlings of Springbank 10 year old (which is reasonable to assume as the inspiration for this whisky). Also bottled at 46%, there's no shortage of Campbeltown chutzpah on offer: Sweet and sooty with a coastal bite, it firmly ranks amongst the most flavoursome, characterful blended malts of recent years. Buy it whenever the price is right.
Other reviews... ...Now, I just see that this is actually a blended malt – I used to believe Campbeltown Lochs were blended Scotch, no? Looks like this one's made out of all single malts in Campbeltown, namely Springbank, Glen Scotia, Hazelburn, Macallan, Kilkerran/Glengyle and Longrow (spot the odd one out!) Colour: white wine. Nose: young, starting citric and chalky, with some lemonade and kiwi juice. Then there's sourdough, a fresh pack of lemon drops, yellow Haribos and a little lime grass. This one should repel any mosquitos, perhaps even Campbeltown's famous – and voracious - midges. Mouth: very good, with a similar chalky, doughy and lemony development, supplemented with a little fresh mint, green pepper and tiny roots and saplings (quinoa?) Finish: rather long, on pretty much the same flavours and with a smokier signature. Longrow, I presume. This wee chemicalness too… Comments: a fully naked Campbeltowner, undisguised and maskless. Very cool proposition, and certainly a true 'regional malt'. Perhaps for your favourite hipflask rather than for your most expensive crystal sniffer (a.k.a. fishbowl). 86 points - whiskyfun.com
...There’s a fruitier freshness and a slightly peppery grip added with a mineralic fizz that makes things a little more pleasing for me. Yet objectively, this remains good, easy sipping whisky and regardless of which batch you grab, you’ll be in good company. The rumours have moved towards this being mostly Glengyle malt (Kilkerran) in the mix here and that would make a lot of sense, despite that distillery only running 25% of the year (from the same team - and malt - as Springbank) they’ve been making whisky since 2004 ,and a lot more since 2018, they’ve gotta free up that precious warehouse space somehow. Why not step in to alleviate some of the demand for Campbeltown whisky with a good honest malt blend?...Very good indeed. - dramface.com
Notes from Springbank... Nose: A distinct buttery note and characteristic hint of sea salt introduce this dram, along with notes of ginger loaf and pecan pie. Palate: Creamy coffee, salted caramel, date syrup and crystallised brown sugar on the palate, with a subtle hint of peat smoke. Finish: The peat smoke builds in the finish, with a leathery note developing over time.
Collectors note: Springbank's labels almost always arrive with minor wearing and markings, most often to the top of the front labels. This is unavoidable. If you are likely to be disappointed by minor label scuffing, we recommend you don't buy these whiskies.

Full and fruity nose, expressive and ripe, nicely perfumed and expressive. Clean and clear, extremely mineral, graphite, pencil lead and flint stone notes on the palate alongside clear blue fruits, blueberries, blackcurrants and some red summer berries. Super smooth in terms of texture but also quite lean in terms of fruit flavour, this has bite and tang, a touch austere but also really quite juicy and floral too. Needs a bit of time, but feels precise and focussed with grip and intensity. I like the fruitiness, really quite upfront but keeping the liveness and energy. Succulent and nicely sweet touches with juicy acidity. Easy enjoyment, plush, mineral, all in balance. 3.6pH. 12% press wine. A yield of 39hl/ha. Drink 2026-2044.

Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateI loved the 2022 Château Joanin Bécot, a juicy, lively, nicely balanced Castillon that has perfumed red fruits as well as the classic mineral and floral nuances of the region. The blend is 80/20 Merlot and Cabernet Franc from the cooler, limestone Castillon region east of Saint-Emilion, and this beauty will drink well for 10-15 years if well stored. Juicy and fun, this has a playful edge that's really enjoyable, a sweet, mouthwatering cherry and blueberry flavour with tannins that are textured like ripe grape skins, fleshy and filling. Plump weight yet this remains still quite direct and focussed. Good energy and persistence with layers and bitter, minty, herbal spice on the finish giving the lingering and lasting impression, but well made. One of the more muscular, concentrated 2022s in my tastings, the 2022 Château Larcis Ducasse sports a deep ruby/plum hue to go with serious aromatics of ripe red and black cherries, smoked tobacco, new leather, truffle, and an incredible sense of crushed stone-like minerality. Rich, full-bodied, and massively concentrated on the palate, this intense, flawlessly balanced, voluptuous 2022 has a stacked mid-palate, velvety tannins, and fabulous length on the finish. I wouldn't be surprised to see this close down with 3-4 years of bottle age only to re-emerge after a decade. The 2022 Larcis Ducasse is a huge, vertical wine. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2022 will need quite a few years to shed some of its considerable baby fat. Dense dark red fruit, new leather, licorice, rose petal and mocha are all broadly sketched. Imposing and vertical in build, this is immensely promising. The 2022 spent 14 months in oak (40% 225-liter barrels, 40% 500-liter barrels and 20% foudre), then three months in cement. I can't wait to see how this develops. Tasted two times. Drink 2030-2062.

Today Chateau Pontet Canet is one of the most popular and collectable wines in all of Bordeaux, and much of this success has come from the extraordinary quality of wines made in the last two decades. While ranked as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 Classification, today the property would easily be regarded as a Second Growth as the wines often rival the best in the region. Much of the emphasis at Pontet Canet is in the vineyard, and the property has converted to 100% biodynamics as of 2005. The vineyard is next to Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, and is planted to 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot.
Impenetrable inky black heart with a very deep dark red black hue. Intense ripe red to black currant and red liquorice aromas flood the olfactory senses with some violet, crushed rock, vanillin cedar, dried herb, subtle tobacco and spice notes lending further complexity. Rich and expansive yet firmly built, a formidable core of red to black currant and red liquorice fruits are framed by dense, muscular tannins. Vanillin cedar, earth, subtle dark chocolate, graphite, delicate tobacco and spice elements unravel across the assertive back half. A sensational Pauillac as well as the finest wine from this château since the 2009 (although the 2010 might have something to say about that), the 2022 Château Pontet-Canet sports a deep purple hue as well as a heavenly perfume of crème de cassis, smoke, incense, leafy tobacco, and chocolate. Despite its opulence and power, it has a solid underlying structure, and its tannins are sweet and polished; it has remarkable depth and concentration, and it just does everything right. I wouldn't be surprised to see this firm up slightly over the coming 3-5 years, although I don't expect it to truly shut down. It should have 40, 50, if not 60 years of overall longevity. Georgina Hindle - DecanterDeep purple with a blue hue in color, the wine is almost opaque in color. Cassis, flowers, plums, licorice, and tobacco leaf aromas adorn the perfume. It is already clear that with this wine, it is the purity in the fruit that stands out. The palate is equally pure, with its layers of glycerin-filled blackberries, and plums. The wine is lush, as well as refined. The finish meshes concentration with elegance, power with purity, lift and length. The peppery, spicy note, along with the resounding minty-freshness, and a touch of anise in the long, finish is what stands out here. There is no sensation of heat or over ripeness in this wine in the mid-palate or in the finish. The wine blends 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot.14.7% ABV, pH 3.8. Harvesting took place September 8 - September 28. The 2022 Rauzan-Ségla is showing well in bottle, unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with licorice, burning embers and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, ample and velvety, it's suave and seamless, with its dense core of fruit framed by powdery structuring tannins that lend a more evident backbone than it exhibited en primeur. As readers may remember, the 2022 is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot; and in 2022, the east-facing sides of the vines, which see the afternoon sun, were picked separately, along with anything that showed signs of stress. The 2022 Rauzan-Ségla is a classy, elegant wine. Even so, the 2022 very clearly lacks the immediacy of some surrounding vintages. Readers should be prepared to cellar this for a number of years The mid-weight, gracious presence of Rauzan-Ségla is very much present, and yet the tannins are pretty imposing. Dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, graphite and white pepper are all beautifully delineated in the glass. The 2022 is pure and total sophistication. Antonio Galloni - VinousAromas of blueberries and blackberries with walnuts and hints of tar that follow through to a medium to full body with plush and velvety tannins and a lovely, caressing mouthfeel. It closes up at the end. Extremely long, pure and structured. Classic 72% cabernet sauvignon, 26% merlot and 2% petit verdot. From organically grown grapes. Give this at least until after 2030 to open and come around.

The flagship 2022 Château Rauzan-Ségla checks in as 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and the balance Petit Verdot, all aged 18 months in 50% new French oak. It's much more focused and precise compared to the second wine and has brilliant aromatics of crème de cassis, crushed violets, graphite, and smoky oak. Gorgeously concentrated and full-bodied, with riveting purity and precision, this stunning Margaux has ripe yet building tannins, a terrific mid-palate, and flawless overall balance. I love it today yet 7-8 years of cellar are warranted and it will cruise over the following 3-4 decades in cold cellars. It's another sensational wine from this estate. Drink 2033-2073.

Gorgeously fragranced on the nose with perfumed black fruits and pink flowers - smells very Margaux. Clean and crisp, a beautiful precision from the start with ripe and rich fruit but cool fresh acidity and sleek, fine tannins. A little shy, still compact and tightly knitted, but lovely detail, so well worked, almost delicate but there's still quite fleshy, plush fruit. Excellent concentration but delivered with an easy sleight of hand, expanding with time in the glass. Glamorous, scented, inviting, deep and seductive. A brilliant and totally moreish wine. Yield of 30hl/ha. 3.7pH. 17% press wine. Harvest 2-28 September. Ageing in French oak for 14-16 months, 15% new. In organic conversion. Tasted twice. Drink 2029 - 2048.

Georgina Hindle - DecanterDark in color, the array of floral notes shoot out with violets, lilacs, and roses. From there you find truffle, red and black fruits, cigar box and cedar also come through in the nose. While the perfume is catchy, it is on the palate where the wine takes off. Texturally, the wine is drenched in velvet. There is intensity, richness, and concentration, as well as weightlessness on the palate. With this wine, the seamless finish must be felt, as well as tasted. The wine is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot. This marks the highest percentage of Cabernet in the blend and with 17% press wine in the blend, it is the highest portion of press wine as well. 14.5% ABV, 3.7 pH. The harvest took place September 2 - September 28. This is the earliest start to a harvest for Rauzan Segla. Yields were 30 hectoliters per hectare. The Grand Vin was produced from 50% of the harvest. Drink from 2027-2065.

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Clos du Roy offers up aromas of dark berries, flowers and licorice intertwined with delicate oaky notes. Less concentrated and rustic than usual, it's medium to full-bodied and layered with a dense core of fruit and velvety tannins, finishing long and penetrating. This is an impressive effort. James SucklingI love the nose on the 2022 Clos Du Roy, a ripe, broad, impressive 2022 that has sweet cassis and black cherry fruits, nicely integrated oak, medium to full body, and building yet ripe, balanced tannins. It’s an incredibly impressive Fronsac that has the fruit and texture to shine today as well as the balance and structure to evolve for 10-12+ years. Drink 2025-2037.

Situated in the picturesque Yarra Valley, Coldstream Hills was established in 1985 by James and Suzanne Halliday. The fruit for this wine was sourced from low yielding vineyards in the Lower and Upper Yarra Valley with a variety of handling and fermentation techniques, including the use of whole bunches employed. Maturation took place in a combination of seasoned and new French oak for a period of 9 months.
Dark red colour with black toned edges and a light red hue. The nose is filled with dark cherry, strawberry and anise aromas. Hints of violet, spicy cedar and forest floor are also evident. Supple in its flow and possessing admirable power, the palate is decorated with rich dark cherry, strawberry and anise flavours. Gently toasted cedar, brambly earth, delicate rhubarb and spice characters all sit in the background. Finely polished tannins show good underlying structure.
