2007 Chateau d'YquemSauternes, Bordeaux, FRANCE$999. 00Bottle$11988.00 DozenClosure: CorkSuperlatives are often not enough when it comes to describing Chateau d'Yquem. Standing alone as the only Premier Cru Superieur ranked sauternes property, Chateau d'Yquem is situated in the epicentre of prime sweet wine production in France. Their unique position, and wealth of soil profiles, allows d'Yquem to produce wines of enormous complexity with consistent accumulation of botrytis often in years when others struggle.
Other Reviews....
Pale to medium gold colored, the 2007 d'Yquem delivers powerful scents of tropical fruits—dried mangoes and pineapple paste—accented by acacia honey, toasted almonds and woodsmoke with hints of chalk dust, kettle corn and lime blossom. The palate reveals one of those vintages that shape-shifts into an apparently drier style than it is, largely thanks to its uber-racy backbone of freshness and layered mineral-inspired flavors, finishing with a regal, satin-textured savoriness. Difficult to resist now, this will be one of those Rip Van Winkle vintages that can be predicted to cellar not just for decades but for generations. For number crunchers: 14.2% alcohol, 137 grams per liter residual sugar, and total acidity is 3.7 grams per liter H2SO4.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Wine Advocate (Aug 2019)(14% alcohol with 140 g/l r.s.; 70% semillon and 30% sauvignon blanc) Pale gold. Knockout nose of mirabelle, pineapple, spices and honey. Dense and thick but with racy acidity leavening the wine's liqueur-like flavors of peach, apricot and pineapple and imbuing it with superb energy. With aeration, this showed captivating notes of vanilla, toast and fresh and exotic herbs, plus a saline aspect on the very long finish. Still an infant, but already boasts terrific cut and purity of fruit. Director Pierre Lurton was thrilled to have a large quantity of wine at this high level of quality.

Stephen Tanzer - VinousSome wines, due to the fame of the marquee, light up the faces of eager tasters when they are opened. The list of wines deserving of those accolades is short and sweet. Speaking of sweet, at the top of the pyramid of the world's sweet is Chateau d'Yquem. With its track record of successful vintages, that's where it belongs. 2007 d'Yquem is another great success for the chateau! With a deep gold color, the nose explodes with honey, flowers, white peaches, nectarines, orange rind, vanilla custard, nuts and overripe pineapple. There is an intensity of flavor, multiple layers of sweet, ripe, honey drenched fruit and the perfect amount of acidity to give the wine ample lift keeping it fresh.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider - 2017 Chateau de Beauregard Pouilly-Fuisse Vers CrasBurgundy, FRANCE$94. 99Bottle$1139.88 DozenABV: 13%Closure: Cork
Frederic Burrier and his family own the historic Chateau de Beauregard and the small but equally important Chateau du Clos, both based in Pouilly, along with half ownership of Domaine de la Rochette based in Milly-Lamartine. Frederic is a staunch supporter of the wines of Pouilly, and led the commission into the possibility of premier crus for appellation. Winemaking is very traditional, and while he has tried newer methods and equipment, Frederic prefers the results he gets by crushing the grapes prior to using his Vaslin hydraulic press. As of 2020 vintage, many of the plots worked in Pouilly are now classified as premier cru.
Other Reviews....
Smoky reduction slides over into reduction territory that definitely needs some aeration if you're going to try a bottle in the next year or so. More interesting are the appealingly energetic and textured medium-bodied flavors that possess a caressing mouth feel while once again coating the palate. The sappy finish really fans out as it sits on the palate though there is enough warmth to suggest that this would best be served a bit cooler than normal. Drink 2022+.

Allen Meadows - BurghoundThis bottling is limited to 40 barrels though Beauregard own over 3ha – the rest goes into the Château blend. The Fuissé side has younger vines and catches the sun, whereas the Pouilly vineyards are older, have a slight inclination to the north-east and maintain the austerity of the limestone mini-plateau which is also usefully ventilated by exposure to the wind. The 2017 was picked on 27th August and has excellent depth of colour, a brisk if as yet undeveloped nose, lovely weight of fruit and dances beautifully across the palate.

The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Cras 1er Cru comes from 3.5 hectares of vines surrounding the winery on limestone soils. Struck flint comes through nicely on the nose, very focused and full of energy. The palate is very well balanced with harmonious citrus fruit infused with flint and white pepper notes. Impressive weight and extract on the finish, this is turning into a delightful Pouilly-Fuissé. Drink 2025-2042.

Neal Martin - VinousThis lightly wooded effort is also moderately reduced and tough to read aromatically. By contrast there is a lovely sense of freshness to the intense, detailed and rich flavors that don't have the same size and weight but there is a bit more refinement on the lingering finish. This though will need to develop better depth to merit the upper end of my projected range. Drink 2024+.

The Château de Chantegrive "Caroline" 2014 has a primal, pineapple and lime cordial-scented nose that possesses fine intensity. A return to form for this excellent Barsac wine after the succulent but unbalanced 2022. Great stuff from this legendary Dubourdieu property, although once again the yields are extremely low and the character is more concentrated than you find in vintages like 2021. Ageing starts with 10 months in oak barrels, followed by 9 months in stainless steel tank before bottling.

Very harmonious with perfectly judged acidity, it’s extremely pure with a tensile finish. This is Barsac in full flight. It will be outstanding once bottled. Bravo! Drink 2028-2055.

Neal Martin - VinousThere’s a refined focus and beauty to this, with spice and honey character. Medium-bodied, sweet and poised. Flavorful at the end, in an elegant way, with density and tension.

James SucklingPale gold with vibrant edging, starts with concentrated and intense clove spices, luscious apricot fruit, opening to show juicy, sculpted slivers of steel and lime juice.

2022 Chateau Doisy Daene (375ml) Pre-Arrival OfferBarsac, Bordeaux, FRANCE$51. 99Bottle$623.88 DozenClosure: CorkOnce part of the original Doisy estate founded in 1704, Chateau Doisy Daene takes its name from Jacques Emmanuel Daane, an owner in the late nineteenth century who combined his surname with that of Doisy following the estate's division. After changing hands several times, the property was acquired in 1924 by the Dubourdieu family and gradually rebuilt and expanded to its current 18.2 hectares. The Barsac vineyard, located close to Chateau Climens, is planted predominantly to Semillon with a smaller proportion of Sauvignon Blanc, on red sand, clay and limestone soils. Alongside its Sauternes, the estate is notable for producing one of the appellation's earliest dry white wines, bottled as Doisy Daene Grand Vin Sec, as well as the rare and highly selective l’Extravagance de Doisy Daene in exceptional vintages.

The 2020 Doisy-Daëne, pure Sémillon this year picked at 16hl/ha over three to six tries through the vineyard, presents a well-defined nose that, compared side-by-side with Doisy-Védrines, is actually quite similar in terms of the dried honey, honeysuckle, candle wax and quince aromas that unfurl from the glass. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity, and such purity on the finish that it endows this Barsac with wonderful weightlessness. Magnificent.

2024 Chateau Grand Village Blanc Pre-Arrival OfferBordeaux, FRANCE$59. 99Bottle$719.88 DozenClosure: CorkGiven they are under the same ownership of the Guinaudau family, Chateau Grand Village is often referred to as Chateau Lafleur’s second vineyard. The estate has been owned by the Guinaudau’s relatives for hundreds of years, however it was not until the year 2000 that they began to produce wine themselves from the property. Situated on the edge of the Fronsac region and classified as Bordeaux Superieur, the vineyard is planted to 79% Merlot and 21% Bouchets (Cabernet Franc). The terroir is similar to Saint Emilion with its mix of calcisol going down a foot or so to a bedrock mostly made up of asteria limestone. At Grand Village, they practice many of the same techniques employed at Lafleur, including pruning and de-budding adapted to each vine plant, crop thinning in summer and de-leafing. The grapes are picked by hand, followed by very careful sorting and selection. Grand Village also produces a white wine from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (85%) and Semillon (15%), from a 5 acre plot.
Other Reviews....
The 2024 Grand Village Blanc was picked from September 5 to 11. This has a vivacious bouquet with lime flower, honeysuckle and light wild peach notes that are beautifully defined. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a lightly spiced opening. It is delineated with just a dab of orange rind on the finish. The 2024 is irresistible. Drink 2027-2037.

Neal Martin - VinousThis is a wild GV with so much sliced lemon, green apple and lime, as well as hints of flint. Mussel shells, too. Medium-bodied, tangy and vivid. A blend of 78% sauvignon and 22% semillon.

James SucklingScheduled to be bottled in June (tasted out of tank), the 2024 Grand Village (Lafleur) Blanc has a bright, racy, mineral-driven style in its crushed citrus, lime, chalk, and sappy, minty herb-driven aromatics. It's medium-bodied, has a vibrant spine of acidity, and outstanding length.
