It was originally bottled in 1908 by the fiercely proud Perthshire family, the Thomsons who were Family Grocers. The label disappeared in the 1970s only to be resurrected in 2013 by independent bottlers, Morrison & Mackay, and now Morrisons. Previous editions were said to employ malts from Glenfarclas, Blair Athol and Glentauchers, all matured in the three main sherry cask types: butts, puncheons and the smaller hogsheads, however the exact composition here isn't disclosed.Tasting note: Opens fresh and citrusy before dark chocolate and a subtle development of dried fruits add more familiar sherry character on the nose. Medium to full bodied with semi-sweet malt and hints of fruit cake. Lots of gingery spices warm up the finish. A light honey and dried fruit sweetness returns in the aftertaste. Call it moderately sherried. 46% Alc./Vol Non chill filtered.

Morrison Distillers Mac-Talla Terra Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Islay, SCOTLAND$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 46%The Mac-Talla whiskies are a new NAS range from the indie bottler, 'Morrisons', otherwise known for their Càrn Mòr and Old Perth labels. The point of difference here is that they're entirely made up of Islay malts. The exact composition remains undisclosed. However, since the Morrison family has always had tight connections with the island and owned Bowmore for some time, rumours suggest the contents may well be sourced from that famous distillery on the shore of Loch Indaal. Handsomely presented in heavy-weight custom made bottles, the title Mac-Talla comes from the Scots Gaelic for ‘echo’.Tasting note: Bright gold. Presents a similar citrus edge to the 'Mac-Tara', only more malt and less peat. Balanced and accessible with the kind of deft, oily peating that just glosses over the barley. The result is something more nuanced and 'coastal' than simply smokey, without compromising depth or character. Salt'n'pepper tang kicks in at the finish. Ends with a touch of menthol and lanolin. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Citrus notes, smoky barley and fresh sea air. Palate: Clean woodsmoke, salty sea spray and a crisp, clean smoky finish. An absolute delight for any classic Islay whisky enthusiast.

Founded in 1859 and best known for their award-winning fortified wines, Morris of Rutherglen are now making whisky. Given the company's access to high quality barrels, it makes sense. The family hasn't cut any corners since the inception of the project in 2016. Their dream team originally consisted of Master Distiller, John McDougall, a widely-respected whisky maker with experience at Balvenie, Laphroaig and Springbank. The late Dr Jim Swan, famous for his work with STR casks at Kavalan, Kilchoman et al, was also a key consultant and worked with McDougall on honing the barrel and toasting regimes. Currently, Darren Peck (ex-Diageo) is Head Distiller having worked under the tutelage of McDougall for the last five years.
At the heart of the process is a restored hybrid copper pot and column still - none other than the original installed at Morris's in the early 1930s used for producing base spirits for fortified wines. High quality barley is sourced locally. Add a private cooperage and a warm/cool day/night maturation environment combined with reasonable sell prices and Morris are setting the standard high.
The first releases include a 'Signature' label and a Muscat Barrel finished malt, initially matured in a combination of French and American oak x-wine barrels. Both entries were awarded gold medals at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (it should be noted that these were slightly higher abv variants for the US market). The recent SIP Awards in the US (May 2021) also recognised their quality, with the Signature being awarded Platinum, and the Muscat a Double Gold. For collectors, these first releases may carry some significance in years to come. For the Morris family, they mark a new chapter in a 160 year history.
Tasting note: Deep topaz to brass gold. More expressive on the nose than the ‘Signature’ bottling, this adds some red berry wine character to the toasty malt, the aroma bearing a passing resemblance to lamingtons or berry tarts. Well-managed wine input creates a film of sweet dried fruits over the barley, coating the mouth and extending the finish. Powdery tannins and a spicy flourish check the sugars. Rounds off with medjool dates and a mild gingery warmth. Stays with you. Nicely done. 46% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... A truly Australian whisky and in my mind the most important release from Morris, given the unique quality of Rutherglen muscat. This was the first whisky ever released by the brand and is still a huge winner in my book. For lovers of classic sherry-cask Scotch single malt, this is a must-have bottle if you want to support local, with waves of excellent oak and dried fruits erupting from the glass. Here, the beefy Morris spirit character is matched by the powerful sweetness of Muscat, but it’s a dance rather than a fight, each supporting the other to create remarkable complexity for such an inexpensive whisky. The palate is sweet and brilliantly integrated with precisely the right amount of oak to give it legs, and the 48% alcohol is perfect drinking strength. Method and Madness French Chestnut Finish Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey (700ml)IRELAND$129. 99Bottle$1559.88 DozenABV: 46%One from the Method & Madness series distilled at Midleton. These whiskeys are produced on a far smaller scale that the distillery's other flagships like Jameson and Redbreast with experimentation and innovation being primary. Other finishes include Acacia wood, Virgin Hungarian oak, Mulberry and cherry wood. This one's matured in Sherry & Bourbon barrels then finished in casks made of French Chestnut. 46% and un-chill filtered.
Other reviews... Perfumy and earthy aromas dominate the nose: dried roses and orange peel, talcum powder, moss, sandalwood, granola, toast with honey. Flavors of toasted cedar, spruce, and moss, woven with spice and pecans, are juxtaposed with bright lemon, almond cream, orange blossom water, and rose petals. The finish is soft and savory, with lingering earthiness. A curious profile that dips and weaves, its character almost intangible, but ultimately in balance.

Worthy Park Single Estate Reserve Jamaica Rum (700ml)JAMAICA$129. 99Bottle$1559.88 DozenABV: 45%Worthy Park are one of a relatively small number of Caribbean distillers going against the grain of mass marketing and industrial scale production. Consisting of 10,000 acres in St. Catherine planted to more than twenty varietals, it's one of Jamaica's largest sugar cane plantations, yet its modern period of distilling only started in 2005. They were a sugar estate first and remain so to this day. The project started in the 1670s and initially made rum from 1741 up to 1962 when it ceased production due to market over supplies. Gifted by Oliver Cromwell to Lt. Francis Price for his service during the British capture of Jamaica from the Spanish in 1655, the Clarke family has been at the helm since 1918.Not surprisingly, a small portion of the sugar cane harvest remains dedicated to rum. The Estate utilises three different yeasts for fermentation including an isolated proprietary yeast taken from one of their sugarcane varieties. It means they're able to produce a varying number of marques, each with its own code based on ester count. Combined with a double retort all-copper pot still, Worthy Park boast control of the entire process. The result here is a blend of 100% copper pot-still rums aged from six to ten years in ex-bourbon casks. It promises another high quality all-natural addition to the ever expanding selection of Jamaican rums.
Tasting note: Deep gold. Nicely weighted aromas waver from plump and borderline buttery to estery and exotic: Expands with pineapple pudding, dried mango and banana bread. Medium sweet, succulent and oily on entry. Mid palate is candied fruit to brown sugar-like, with impressive sweet/dry balance. Finishes super pure, satiny, faintly caney / grassy / funky with warming cinnamon and nutmeg. Light molasses and raw sugar through the aftertaste. An evocative, individual, unadultered style that's a cut above your average gold rum. 45% Alc./Vol.Other reviews... It’s rum brands like these that focus on and are open about every step of the production process that made me lean toward rum. At the same time, it’s the narrative-controlling bullshit from the big whisky brands that make me lose faith and interest in the whisky scene. Raw materials don’t matter? I guess so, if you’re only after efficiency. Downplaying fermentation? Maybe, if you only want to distill as much and as fast as you can, and let the casks “fix” as many weak spots as it can, and then let marketing do the rest. I often hear aged WP being called “whisky-like'... Thus, if one wants to get into Jamaican rum but is scared of the funk, I say that this, along with Appleton, is something a person should pursue. It’s not as funky as Hampden, which is, I think, the most beloved and popular Jamaican rum right now. That said, it’s quite different from the more easily accessible light rums like Bacardi and Havana Club. - malt-review.com
Notes from the producers... A natural, light amber color; the nose is punchy with upfront aromas of light tobacco and toasted oak with spicy fruit – raisins and plums. With time light notes of vanilla become evident. On the mouth luscious and tropical fruits with a soft, buttery and almost creamy texture. Dry a slightly bitter, soft tannins are rounded out by toasted oak and nutmeg. A hint of black pepper finished off with a touch of ginger as it lingers with it’s soft, dry finish.

The Larmandier-Bernier wines are marked by a feeling of textural intensity and vinous resonance that is quite distinctive. The wines are fermented in wood, mostly larger format foudre with some smaller barrels, with spontaneous fermentations and generally minimal handling. Dosage is on the low side. In recent years, the style here has shifted towards a greater focus on energy and tension than in the past, likely a reflection of a generational change being led by Pierre and Sophie Larmandier’s sons Arthur and Georges. The wines remain compelling.
The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Longitude 1er Cru is a powerful, ample wine. The Longitude builds beautifully in the glass, creamy and textured, with tons of resonance. Pear, white pepper, dried flowers, mint and chalk are all delineated in a Champagne that blends power and tension. This is all class. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: February, 2023.

Antonio Galloni - Vinous (November 2023)Scents of just ripe stone fruit, talc, faint honey and toast, a light caramel note too, all adding up to quite subtle and pretty. Creaminess in texture with very fine bead, vivacious and fresh-tasting with lovely salty-chalky feel very present through the wine and to the powdery, lightly puckering finish. Vinous in a way, gently savoury throughout, exceptionally long and runs with so much energy. Beautiful.

It offers a gorgeous and superbly subtle nose made of elderflower, grapefruit zest, apricot, almond cream, and subtly floral elements. The balance of the wine on the palate is simply stunning. Delicately creamy and incredibly subtle honeyed flavors of fruits are lifted up by some beautifully ripe acidity. The wine leaves a gorgeously airy, yet intense and persistent feel of almond cream in the long and gorgeously subtle sense of smoky slate, floral elements, ripe fruits, and fine spices. This gorgeous sweet wine has the delicate exotic presence of an Auslese GK at other Estates, but the finesse and subtlety are firmly that of a Spätlese. What an amazing success!

Using unmalted barley complemented by six specialty malts (Biscuit, Supernova, Redback, Toffee, Crystal and Chocolate), they distilled it in a single-shot (husks included) using a hybrid pot and column still. It was finally influenced by a combination of 200L French & American oak wine casks. The result is a curious arrangement that's neither sweet nor dry. The nose is bready - or is it biscuity? Think Monte Carlos or flourless orange cake. The palate is medium bodied, silky and pure with low key spices, hinting at green barley, lemon butter, jaffas and orange pith through the finish. A trap for the young player is to miss the extra ‘s’ in Roussanne.
Nectarine, honey and mint, ginger and pink grapefruit. It’s bright, but fleshy, with a fine chalky texture, some straw-like character, tight citrus bite through white fruit, and a long and focussed finish. Top shelf. Lovely now, should age beautifully. Drink 2021 - 2030.

Gary Walsh - The Wine Front (December 2020)This is my pick of the Yeringberg whites from the 2018 vintage, as it holds such power and freshness in a composed and concentrated style. The two varieties align neatly with lemon and gently waxy tones on the nose and palate. Some fresh pear here, too. The structure is impressive. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Other Reviews....
A gentle Yeringberg, with its heady fragrance of mulberries, florals, cedary oak and the kitchen cupboard full of spices and herbs. So enticing. The palate is medium-bodied, with astonishingly fine, powdery tannins, finishing long and pure. As usual, an elegant wine that delights now and will do more so in a few years' time.
Yeringberg Yeringberq, perhaps equally famous as Duran Duran, The The, and ‘Allo ‘Allo! Though I will say this only once. Drink by 2038.

Jane Faulkner- Halliday's Australian Wine CompanionThis blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot and malbec is in striking form in vintage 2018. Blackberries, cherries, blueberries and redder-toned fruit are set amid light, earthy notes, fresh leaves and woody spices. The elegant palate has medium body and is lead with fine, even tannins that carry bright red and blueberry flavors in a long, precise and detailed mode. Outstanding. Drink or hold for a decade or more. Screw cap.

Highly perfumed, exotic notes of cracked pepper and spice, red and black fruit, and grilled meat. It’s medium-bodied, svelte and juicy, subtle kind of wine, but no shortage of flavour with the spice and mixed berries kind of thing. Tannin is fine with an emery board quality, perfume of jasmine and stone fruit carries the finish. Stylish. Better with a few more years in bottle, I’d say. Drink 2023 - 2029+

Fuligni gives us a truly special expression from this sunny and warm vintage. What I notice first in the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is the elegance of the aromas and those dusty, almost salty mineral notes of crushed limestone that frame the delicate fruit packed tight within. There are other distinctive aromas here, such as balsam herb, dried mint and powdered licorice root that add more layers to the bouquet. That layering continues to the palate where the wine excels on all fronts—balanced concentration, structure and freshness. This is a unique creation and a very precious wine. It is one of the stand outs of the year.

James SucklingIt’s hard to put down a glass of the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. This youthfully restrained yet remarkably pretty wine trades power for undeniable elegance and refinement. It’s dark and moody at times, bright and focused on radiant fruits at others. Layer after layer of crushed black cherry, woodland herbs, autumnal spice, mint leaf, cedar box and earth resonate in the glass. Its silky textures coat all that they touch in a mix of dark red berries and salty minerals, turning dry and structured toward the close under an air of inner florals and earth tones. It will be some time before the 2015 is ready, but I hope to be able to revisit this when it is. Tasted twice with consistent results.

Eric Guido - VinousThis Brunello offers dark fruit flavors of black currant, blackberry, violet and iron. A steely line of tannins adds support and the supple texture ties it all together. Classy and complex, finishes with accents of tobacco and spice. Best from 2024 through 2045.

Despite long ageing in large oak casks, it demands more time in bottle and should age gracefully for many years. It comes from the estate’s original Podere Cottimelli site in Montalcino’s northeast. Earthy chestnut and wet soil make way for hints of liquorice, lilac and allspice. Broad and expansive, it starts off with velvety tannins that build to a powdery mass, yet there's a lovely perfume that lifts the palate along with saline, stony nuances and citrussy acidity to finish.

Still a touch reticent the nose slowly opens to reveal alluring liquorice and confectionary scents which meld into a mix of morello cherry, well integrated spirit and spice notes. Rich, luscious morello cherry and liquorice flavours are backed by rugged, muscly tannins which lend firmness and structure for the long haul. Marzipan, infusions of vanilla and spice ensue. Exceptionally intense and powerful it finishes long, dense and robust.

The 2017 Vintage Port, not quite bottled when seen but the final blend, is a field blend (with typical grapes like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca) aged for approximately 20 months in used French oak. It comes in with 98 grams of residual sugar, a little drier on paper than its Taylor sibling this year. Sappy and sensational in flavor and fruit, this seemingly has moderate tannins around the edges on first taste, velvety texture and a long finish. Despite the first impression of moderation, there is plenty of power here. As it got some aeration, it showed nothing but power and closed down fairly hard. The combination of great fruit and fine structure makes this a potentially great Fonseca, but right now it is obviously immature and not showing everything it has. I'd recommend some patience here.

Mark Squires - Wine Advocate (July 2019)Picking began at Quinta do Panascal on September 6, the two other quintas in Pinhão that form the 2017 Fonseca Vintage Port, Cruzeiro and Santo António picked on 10 and 17 September respectively. One of the deepest, most opaque color amongst the new Port alumni, it has one of the most backward, almost recalcitrant noses that demands a lot of aeration. It gradually opens to reveal blackberry, melted tar, thyme, clove and violet aromas that are well defined, if maybe just missing the same breeding as Taylor’s. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is fresh and detailed, a slightly more structured Fonseca than expected, quite strict at first with good grip and a lightly spiced, precise finish. Powerful and long on the aftertaste, you can feel this Fonseca 60 seconds after the wine has exited. It deserves 10-15 years in bottle. Excellent, but patience required. The most enigmatic of the 2017 Vintage Ports. Total production is 8,100 cases.

It's open and in its first bloom of youth, with lovely aromatic red berry fruit and floral aromas, plus a touch of leafiness. It's soft and fleshy initially, seemingly not as big as its stablemate Taylor's - and not quite so deep in colour - though with dark chocolate concentration and mid-palate firmness. Lovely full, ripe tannins mass in the mouth, well defined, with fresh berry fruit remerging on the broad, expansive finish.

Richard Mayson - DecanterDeepest purple. Wild, perfectly ripe small black berries like elderberry but also the lush sweetness of ripe blackberries plus a stony, rocky edge and just a touch charry. Lush, plush and exotic on the palate, deep-pile, compact, smooth tannins, just enough freshness to balance the rich generosity. The finish is beautifully dry-tasting, the tannins melting on the long finish.

The name refers to a mystical area on the Isle of Islay, and the name dates back to 13th century, translating to “a rocky place” in Old Norse. This particular bottling carries no age statement (NAS) and the source is is not disclosed (other expressions are in the pipeline). It comes handsomely presented and bottled at 46% / non chill filtered with a flavour profile summed up as "A great all around Islay".

Tasting note: Located in the rural town of Drumshanbo, the Shed Distillery was founded in 2014 by PJ Rigney. One of the more anticipated Irish releases of the year, their single pot still whiskey is triple distilled from Irish barley and Irish Barra oats. Maturation takes place in a combination of x-Bourbon and x-Oloroso Sherry casks. Pale gold in colour, the aroma presents youthful but soft aromas of gobstopper, pear drops and dried fruits - in particular, apricots. A medium bodied, fruity, juicy, clean spirit that finishes creamy, genteel yet vibrant, showing pitch perfect sweet-dry balance and hints of Bounty bar through the aftertaste. A big seller in France and one of the more full-bodied expressions Penderyn offers, this fruit'n'nut chocolate affair has a soft, rounded mouthfeel, light red berry character and a fresh, vibrant finish. A significant step up from the 41% bottlings, the extra ABV gives Penderyn a confident stride. It also demonstrates why they continue with Port maturations. The fruity wine influence clearly compliments the distillate's slightly tropical style. 46% Alc./Vol Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... Subtle, well-judged port cask influence integrates well with the Penderyn spirit to produce an entrancing whisky. Substantial aromas of chocolate, dried fruits, dates, cocoa, snuff, and a prickle of spices rise from the glass. There’s good weight in the mouth, with flavors of chocolate, gingersnap, dates, dried cranberry, forest honey, a supportive chorus of spices, and a heavenly finish of dark sweet fruits.

The newest, oldest whisky to join Ardbeg's core range is an impressively packaged 25 year old, an age statement not seen since the 'Lord of the Isles' bottlings over a decade ago. It's also the oldest permanent addition to the brand, distilled in the 1990s, and available in limited quantities due to its age and rarity. Readers should note that very little whisky was produced at the distillery in the middle '90s. Ardbeg’s production halted in 1981, then resumed in 1989 under Hiram Walker but remained at a low level until late 1996. Most Ardbeg enthusiasts will have tasted little from this distillery's 'quiet period'. Hence, this first edition represents a genuine slice of Islay history.
Dr Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg’s chief whisky creator, comments: “After a quarter of a century in the cask, you’d be forgiven for imagining that Ardbeg 25 Years Old would have lost some of the hallmark smoky punch. Other reviews... We had tried a 'sherry finish' at 40% vol. back in 2012 that was still a bit hesitant, but I know there's been big progress since back then, generally speaking. Colour: light gold. Nose: nice and cakey, I'd even dare mention kouign amann, that wonderful Breton cake that's shock-full of butter and caramel. Other than that, we have the usual walnut cake, which I always love, raisins, honey and dried figs. It's perfect easy sherry, and full-maturation this time. Mouth: very good, classic easier sherry indeed, with a little more citrus on the palate, marmalade, vanilla, honey… Nothing to throw away here, on the contrary, we're in the same league as that of the younger sherried Scottish malts. The well-reputed ones. Finish: rather long, a little tenser, fruitier, with some mandarine liqueur (Mandarine Napoléon) plus honey and fudge. Comments: works very well. 84 points - whiskyfun.com
Notes from the producers... NOSE: Intense, very fine and elegant, subtly influenced by the sherry. The delicacy of vanilla and citrus is revealed with a touch of mint and dried fruit. This has been something that Ray Nadeson, vigneron at Lethbridge, Geelong, has been working on quietly for 13-plus-years. Under some pressure, people asking for the stuff that is, Ray decided to take the wine from a home consumption drink and onto the market. October 2019 is the disgorgement (the first commercial one). Around 75% (chardonnay) is 2017 material that has been in barrel and 25% comes from material blended from a solera (which has chardonnay with pinot noir and pinot meunier dating back to 2003). Fruit comes from Drumborg, Henty. An impressive suite of new sparkling Australian wine.
Really full, textural and rich sparkling with honey, toast, nutty and very strong saline characters rolling around. Vinous in a way, but full-bodied, a touch of sherbetty lift and light white vinegar tang, a funky kind of fizz with lots of personality, vivacious feel and gentle bubbles. Lots of complexity and interest here. Drink 2020 - 2024.

Joe Czerwinski - Wine Advocate (Aug 2019)Traditionally dominated by clairette (45%) and grenache blanc (30%), then roussanne and bourboulenc. The vines average 50+ years and there’s a very restrained nose with dialed-back white-pear and chalk aromas with dried flowers, too. The palate has a super fresh, zippy feel and a long, juicy and attractive core of fresh, salty minerals. The balance is innate and very fluid.

jamessuckling.comThe flagship of this great estate is the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape and it could quite possibly be one of the longest lived wines in the 2018 vintage, which in general, is a charming, forward vintage geared for consumption in the first decade of life. Revealing a more ruby, almost translucent color as well as a great perfume of wild strawberries, blackberries, Asian spices, peppery garrigue, and flowers, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a building, undeniable sense of minerality, plenty of mid-palate depth, and enough tannins to warrant 2-3 years or bottle age. It has the more upfront, expressive style of the vintage yet my money is on this evolving for 15-20 years.

- Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2021...This is lightly peated Glen Scotia matured in bourbon casks apparently. Colour: gold. Nose: there is indeed peat. A rather medical and coastal style that seems to be emblematic of these lightly peated Scotias. I get salty butter, hot cross buns, smoked grains, cereals, hot wash and a wee glimmer of fruits underneath - things like ripe melon and citrons. Rather impressive I have to say. Mouth: rather simple with these notes of smoked hay, straw, raw barley, roast potato, grass, olive oil and a few stray bits of lemon peel. Perhaps some beach pebbles and dried rosemary as well. Unusual but rather fun. Finish: surprisingly good length. Smoked oatmeal, oatcakes, cereals, soot and crushed seashells. Comments: This humble little Glen Scotia is really quite charming. If they gave it an age statement of 5 or 8 years old it would add a further notch of class I think. But, as it is, it’s an easy an quaffable youngster that feels refreshingly un-doctored by active oak. 82 points - whiskyfun.com

Wine SpectatorLaurent Perrier first released this rosé in 1968, well before it became fashionable to have a pink-hued Champagne in the portfolio. 100% Pinot Noir is sourced from both the north and south sectors of the Montagne de Reims sub-region, and famously draws its colour from skin contact rather than the more usual addition of red wine. It has striking freshness on the nose, bags of pure, zippy strawberry and raspberry fruit flavours, and satisfying vivacity. It's beautifully balanced with a long finish, and calls for a carpaccio of raw salmon.

Buffalo Trace Master Distiller, Harlen Wheatley has been a driving force behind the quest to craft the perfect vodka. And if he was going to put his name on it, he wasn't going to be content with making "bubblegum spirit". It's something industry insiders rarely talk about, but the majority of vodkas start out as grain neutral spirit (GNS) manufactured by massive industrial plants, usually near where most of the grain is farmed. Vodka brands will take this GNS and then either redistill it, filter it, dilute it or sometimes just directly bottle it. The rest is about presentation and marketing. Wheatley takes the path less trodden. It's been a passion project of many years involving significant trial and error. A sweet spot was achieved by distilling ten times using majority corn plus Red Winter Wheat, the same wheat as used in Pappy Van Winkle and Weller Bourbons. (Once fermented, it could literally be used to make Bourbon!) Adds Wheatley, “They're good ingredients to give the vodka that soft, delicate finish that we like". Limestone filtered water adds magnesium and calcium while filtering out elements like iron.
"I think it’s an unusual thing to do,” says Wheatley in regards to his process and his lack of reliance on sourcing GNS. “When you walk down the vodka aisle, 80 percent or more are straight neutral spirit — it’s all about packaging and the story.”
Critics and bartenders agree that the result stands out from the pack. In short, don't underestimate the difference a well crafted spirit will make to cocktails, even when you're mixing heavily.
Other reviews... We all know that Buffalo Trace can make world class whiskey but what about vodka? The answer is a triumphant yes. Wheatley Vodka shows complex aromas of earthy, toasted grains and yellow cake. The palate is rich and bold bolstered by its couple of extra degrees of alcohol. Here, more flavors of baked wheat contribute to an almost chewy texture. The finish packs a little bit of heat but the impression is more mineral and spicy than unpleasant.
