2018 Yeringberg Cabernets
The de Pury family have been farming in the Yarra Valley since 1863. Once a famed vineyard in the 19th century, the demise of fine table wines saw production cease in 1921. Guill & Katherine de Pury decided to replant the vineyard in 1969, gradually starting to rebuild the reputation of this historic estate. Today it is helmed by Sandra de Pury, becoming the fourth-generation winemaker at Yeringberg. Produced from some of the oldest vines in the Yarra Valley, the low-yielding vines result in wines of great age-ability and finesse.
Other Reviews....
A gentle Yeringberg, with its heady fragrance of mulberries, florals, cedary oak and the kitchen cupboard full of spices and herbs. So enticing. The palate is medium-bodied, with astonishingly fine, powdery tannins, finishing long and pure. As usual, an elegant wine that delights now and will do more so in a few years' time.
Yeringberg Yeringberq, perhaps equally famous as Duran Duran, The The, and ‘Allo ‘Allo! Though I will say this only once. Drink by 2038.

This blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot and malbec is in striking form in vintage 2018. Blackberries, cherries, blueberries and redder-toned fruit are set amid light, earthy notes, fresh leaves and woody spices. The elegant palate has medium body and is lead with fine, even tannins that carry bright red and blueberry flavors in a long, precise and detailed mode. Outstanding. Drink or hold for a decade or more. Screw cap.

Beautiful perfume of dried flowers, sweet tobacco and spice, blackcurrant and redcurrant, even almond meal. Dense and dark, with a smattering of dried herb, ripe cherry, crisp acidity, firm grainy tannin, and a distinctly ‘mineral’ and savoury finish of exemplary length. It’s a textbook example of superb Yarra Valley Cabernet. Drink 2023 - 2038+
