Pinkster Gin (700ml)UNITED KINGDOM$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 37.5%Launched in 2013 and produced at G&J Distillers, one of the world’s oldest gin distilleries, Pinkster was developed by Stephen Marsh after he recognised what he felt to be a gap in the market for a different kind of gin. Pinkster is composed of just five botanicals (most gins seem to be well over ten nowadays), only three of which are disclosed. Juniper, black peppercorn and most notably, raspberries are key. The raspberries are steeped in triple distilled spirit giving the gin a dry yet subtle berry flavour. They're also infused in the gin after distillation, contributing a subtle pink hue. Incidentally, the raspberries, albeit slightly intoxicated, are then recycled! They sell in farm shops and food halls as "Boozy Berries". Reports have it that Pinkster makes a refreshingly different G&T, with the delicate flavour appealing both to seasoned gin drinkers and recent converts. Tasting note: Clear with a very pale straw blush. Yields frail aromas of raspberry herb tea and muted white pepper with the juniper indiscernible. Follows through with a silky textured, light-bodied profile offering meek piney-juniper flavours and a brisk raspberry jube finish that echoes in the aftertaste. A feather-weight, contemporary gin that needs more juniper input to balance. 37.5% Alc./Vol. Other reviews... "Minimal bottle. Maximum flavour. Artisan gin with raspberries. Plymouth Gin (1000ml)Plymouth, UNITED KINGDOM$69. 99Bottle$839.88 DozenABV: 41.2%Since 1793, Plymouth Gin has been handcrafted at England’s oldest working Gin distillery, Black Friars in Plymouth. The distillery was formerly a Dominican Monastery and the final lodgings of the Pilgrim Fathers before they set sail to the New World in 1620. The 'Mayflower' sailing ship, as well as the monk continue to be represented on the label to this day. The first documented modern Martini recipe actually specified Plymouth Gin. It appeared in 1896 in Stuart's Fancy Drinks & How to Mix them. Plymouth has since gained a popular following, becoming a favourite of such 20th century figures as Franklin D.Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Alfred Hitchcock and Ian Fleming. Plymouth Gin owes its distinctive taste to a blend of ingredients that avoid the use of too much juniper or bitter botanicals, thus giving it a remarkably smooth, integrated palate. Water from the nearby hills of Dartmoor is sourced for its crystal clear purity. The result is a lighter bodied style with fabulous intensity and well balanced botanical flavours.Tasting note: Clear as rainwater appearance. Offers delightful, lifted scents of fresh citrus peel and juniper over hints of black peppercorn and coriander. A water like entry builds into a juniper/citrus mid palate with lively peppers adding depth and length. Slightly oily mouthfeel. Ends with authentic coriander and citrus peel like freshness with the peppers persisting. Beautifully balanced gin with the depth and presence required for great martinis. 42.1% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... The full bodied, spicy aroma offers delicate notes of juniper berry oil, citrus, orris, coriander and caraway seed. Palate entry is mildly peppery, floral and fruity; at midpalate the flavor profile focuses more on oils and juniper. A unique and great gin. 96-100 points 41.2% Alc./Vol.

'What makes Plymouth Gin good is its complexity, its richness of flavour and richness of presence in the mouth - it's just a great drink' - Dave Broom, U.K. Drinks Journalist.'It's that smell. It is fabulous. It's got a really lovely junipery quality. But you can also actually feel the other rooty, earthy sort of flavourings in there. And when you come to taste it, it's soft, it's quite a strong spirit,...but it's round and it doesn't attack you at all. It's a very nice gin indeed. Good with tonic I'd say.'

Poltergeist A True Spirit Gin (700ml)Tasmania, AUSTRALIA$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 46%Tasmania is becoming a hot spot for world-class spirits. Here's another that stands out from the pack.
While the team at Shene Estate wait for whisky to mature, they've been making gin. A proprietary carbon filter system created from organic coconut shells was developed to reduce the 'louching' effect. It resulted in two gins with slightly different flavour profiles (arguably equally good), hence the team decided to launch both. This is the filtered version, modelled on a classic London dry. Tasting note: Clear. The bouquet breaks loose from the glass with an earthy, piney, sappy fragrance; brief air contact deepens the aroma adding hints of lemon oregano, curry leaf, green cardamom, grapefruit, coriander... Palate entry is full flavoured, moderately viscous; mid palate dials up the intensity and pepper warmth, also creaming up the mouthfeel. Cool mint (menthol), oils and juniper, as well as touches of lead pencil and cedar through the finish; ends gracefully off-dry, savoury, fresh with trace citrus lingering. Complex, refreshing and nicely integrated. 46% Alc./Vol. Silver Medal - San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2016 and 2017 -

Poor Toms Strawberry Gin (700ml)Sydney, New South Wales, AUSTRALIAReduced from $89.99$82. 99Bottle$995.88 DozenABV: 40%Yet another delightful release from Marrickville's Poor Toms, this time fresh strawberries are steeped in their Gin base along with young ginger and hibiscus flowers. This creates a bright aromatic flavour profile, and contributres to the Gin's pink hue. Distillates of cardamom and cubeb (or "Java") pepper helps to elevate the delicate sweetness of the strawberry. Unlike many flavoured Gins, this is bone-dry--no sugar is added. It's best mixed in a G&T, or makes a cracking Rosé Negroni.

Gin has been produced in England since the early seventeenth century. During the nineteenth century, a chemist named James Burrough combined the wild flavour of juniper with the subtle sweetness of angelica and the spicy orange of coriander to produce a new highly aromatic style. Burrough coined the term "London Dry" to differentiate the style from its Dutch counterparts.
Made from a double distilled spirit , Prince Albert represents good value for money in comparison with other gins similarly priced. A value mixer for a refreshing Gin & tonic. 37% alc./vol.
- Prohibition Shiraz Barrel Gin (500ml)South Australia, AUSTRALIA$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 60%An aged Gin that references the barrels and blood spilt back in the days of prohibition. This project has been quietly maturing since co-founders Adam Carpenter and Wes Heddles opened at the company’s Gilbert St distillery. They had x Bourbon barrels that had recently being emptied of Barossa Shiraz, re-coopered into a smaller format then re-charred to restore their toasty character. The resulting gin is a big, bold, barrel strength style retaining a gentle shiraz note along with a rich oaked rye back note. Following the trade launch, Carpenter commented, "everyone loved the flavour, the complexity and how different it is to anything else out there, it’s not like any other shiraz gin as there’s no fruit contact, but it’s not your average barrel aged either.” Recommended with soda, in a classic Negroni, gin Old Fashioned or Boulevardier. 60% Alc./Vol.

Puerto de Indias Strawberry Gin (700ml)SPAIN$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 37.5%Spain’s fourth biggest selling gin. Perfect in bright Summery cocktails.
This pink tinted gin is infused with strawberries grown in Huelva in Andalusia (reportedly they're the finest in Europe). It was conceived from a ‘mistake’: After a failed attempt at making a strawberry liqueur, the Master-distiller added the berry mash to a new gin and found the combination worked brilliantly. Puerto de Indias' hugely popular Strawberry edition is now part of the core range and complements the 'Classic' and 'Pure Black' gins in their portfolio. What makes this gin that little more special, is that Puerto de Indias insist on high quality, fresh ingredients in their products. Not just the strawberries but all the other botanicals are carefully sourced, including juniper, coriander, lime, grapefruit, orange peel and lemon peel. The result is perfect in Summer cocktails. You would expect no less from this Seville-based venture, already well known as a producer of Pacharan and Anisette, they've been producing spirits since 1880 making it one of the oldest distilleries in Andalusia.
Tasting note: Brilliant / crystal clear with the palest pink-straw coloured blush. Aromas of over-ripe strawberries with trace pink grapefruit and mandarine peel. A soft, silky, medium dry and fruity gin with distinct strawberry notes over distant botanicals. Moderate berry confectionary aftertaste. Shows good sweet/dry balance. 37.5% Alc./Vol.

Gin and whiskey were added to the lineup in 2007. Fashioned after Holland’s renowned malt wine genevers, Ransom Dry Gin combines the maltiness and hop aromas of the style with a decidedly more intense botanical infusion. In Ransom's words, "The selection of botanicals for this gin was done with tradition in mind, but we also sought to capture the essence of our terroir with the inclusion of the iconic Oregon Marionberry and local hops. The result is a highly aromatic gin with the most compelling attributes of both genever and dry gin styles. We believe speaks meaningfully to its Dutch heritage as well as its Oregon provenance".

Ransom Old Tom Gin (750ml)Sheridan, Oregon, UNITED STATES$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 44%Started with a small life savings and a fistful of credit cards, the Ransom Project was launched in 1997, with the distillery making small amounts of grappa, eau d'vie and brandy. Gin and whiskey were added to the lineup in 2007. Their Old Tom Gin is a historically accurate revival of the predominant Gin in fashion during the mid 1800's and the golden age of American cocktails. It's a slightly sweeter rendition of the classic London Dry.
Ransom's recipe was developed in collaboration with historian, author, and mixologist extraordinaire, David Wondrich. Old Tom is the Gin for mixing classic cocktails dating from the days before prohibition. Its subtle maltiness is the result of using a base wort of malted barley, combined with an infusion of botanicals in high proof corn spirits. The final distillation is run through an alambic pot still in order to preserve the maximum amount of aromatics, flavour and body. Only the "heart of the hearts" (the very best portion of distillate) is retained for this special bottling. The distillate is then cask aged for three to six months - sometimes longer. Six botanicals are used: juniper berries, orange peel, lemon peel, coriander seed, cardamom pods and angelica root.
Tasting note: Brilliant amber gold with a coppery blush. Delightful, lifted bouquet offers up lemon barley sugar, sweet oregano, sage and hints of juniper. Light, creamy entry. A subtle amalgam of coriander seed, cardamom, raw root vegetable with gently peppery juniper to finish. Wonderfully soft. A barrel aged cross-genre style that's not as sweet as you'd expect. Beautifully done.44% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews...Pale amber pink color. Aromas of sweet berry and citrus pastry, floral hops, honey and spice follow through on a soft, silky entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body with wintermint, mango custard, dried lavender, and herbal juniper and sweet spices on the gentle polished finish. Very nice. 44% Alc./Vol.

Red Door Highland Gin (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLANDReduced from $84.99$49. 99Bottle$599.88 DozenABV: 45%Made at Benromach (a distillery better known for their single malt whiskies). The botanical selection is inspired by Scotland’s mountains, forests and coastal fringes and features the likes of bitter orange, sea buckthorn, heather and rowanberries alongside the requisite juniper. It's distilled in an affectionately named copper pot still, ‘Peggy’ using the vapour-infused method which steams the neutral base spirit through the botanicals. Dry and spicy aromas include coriander seed and white pepper over juniper, orris root and refreshing citrus peel. The palate is peppery, medium to full bodied with flavours of juniper, citrus, coriander finishing grassy, spicy, and crisp, juniper and bitter peel lingering through the aftertaste. In the vein of all-purpose, classic London drys. 45% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Red Door’s bright red bottle evokes fruit and mystery, but this is a very straightforward gin with few major surprises, despite the oddball ingredients. The nose: Tons of juniper, and lots of angelica-driven earthiness. There’s a maritime hint here, but it’s muted; the juniper is all but overpowering. The palate is more savory and earthier than you’d expect, notes of underbrush giving the body a certain sense of dusky pungency. A punch of lemon peel, almost closer to lime leaf, lingers on the finish, as does a pinch of salt and a twist of pepper. It’s clean but a bit brooding, still coming across as hewing too close to the ground, with not enough of a lift into the trees spread out above. There’s just a hint of sweetness as it fades out, but it could use more — or more complexity, at least. - drinkhacker.com
...This gin showcases the range that can exist in a juniper forward gin. While bitter orange and angelica notes shine, Red Door is classically juniper-forward. Further, it’s a versatile gin to have behind the bar. - Recommended in its category. 4.5 stars - theginisin.com

Renegade Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 42%A gold medal winning gin from Doghouse Distillery in London. Made using a wheat spirit base that they distill themselves rather than outsourcing, fourteen botanicals are included in the mix: juniper, coriander, angelica and orris, as well as more unusual green, leafy items such as bay, sage, winter savoury and cardamom. These provide a fresh pine, herbaceousness on the palate. The addition of the West African pepper 'Grains of Paradise' contributes warmth. Given all those ingredients, it's surprising how fruity Renegade is on the nose; Our tasting from a 40ml sample revealed ripe red apples and poached pears over background potpourri. The palate is more classically styled with a tangy combination of pine resin, fresh herbs (thyme / sage) and perfectly tuned heat in a juniper-driven finale that's creamy-yet-dry. There's nice vibrancy throughout, making this very sessionable indeed. Try it with premium Indian Tonic Water and a sprig of rosemary. 42% Alc./Vol.

Rogue Society Premium Dry Gin (700ml)Auckland, NEW ZEALAND$84. 99Bottle$1019.88 DozenABV: 42.2%New Zealand distillers are slowly catching up to Australia's burgeoning gin scene. The latest entry was launched by a group of gin enthusiasts in 2014. Located in Auckland, 'Rogue Society' employs a hand beaten 19th century John Dore copper pot still. Their wheat based spirit is infused with a botanical range that includes juniper, lemon peel, orange peel, coriander seeds, cardamom, cinnamon, cassia bark, orris root and nutmeg. Co-founder, Richard Bourke comments, “We’ve been working on it for about three years. We always used to get together and enjoy drinking gin, sampling different kinds of gin from offshore, and we realised that a lot of people didn’t share the passion that we did for gin. We called this gin grief, and we saw it in people who maybe didn’t understand gin as well as we did, or those who maybe had a bad experience with gin, or maybe didn’t like tonic. So we went out and decided to create our own gin brand, and our own label,” says Bourke. Reportedly based on a 300 year old recipe, the gin comes handsomely packaged in a replica centuries-old Geneva style bottle. Tasting note: Crystal clear, moderately viscous appearance. Vibrant and expressive aromas of lemon myrtle yoghurt, white pepper, light cardamom and coriander seed. A medium bodied, cream-textured and mildly peppery entry is followed by flavours of juniper, grapefruit and coriander seed and a tangy, peel finish with good length and freshness. "Goldi Locks" is the limited edition, higher proof or "Navy Strength" version of Rogue Society gin. Handsomely packaged in a replica centuries-old Geneva style bottle. Tasting note: Piercing alcoholic lift carries muted drier styled aromas; two minutes air contact draws out orange and lemon peel, white pepper and background juniper. Fills out after air contact but the citrus (more so orange peel) remains the key note. Initially a little hollow flavour wise but builds to a full throttle citrus / pepper / juniper attack. Finish highlights tongue nipping spices followed by a creamy flood of sweet citrus oils. Concludes brisk, dry and cleansing.
57% Alc./Vol. - Rutte Celery Gin (700ml)NETHERLANDS$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 43%Rutte has been an expert in creating and distilling superb juniper-based spirits for almost 150 years. Based in Dordrecht near Rotterdam since its foundation by Simon Rutte in 1872, the range includes Rutte Old Simon Genever and this specialty "flavoured" gin, reportedly based on a 19th century recipe from the distillery’s founders. Everyday celery is the signature ingredient here, although reportedly, it doesn't dominate. It's recommended as the essential gin to use in a Red Snapper cocktail. The vegetable notes are accentuated when mixed with fresh celery and tomato juice. Other reviews... The celery notes are quite complementary, and the overall flavor profile is not wildly contemporary. Plenty of juniper and traditional gin spice round the flavor out. I might even suggest that this is a “classic style gin” with a dash of celery. It’s not overwhelming, and it’s nicely balanced. My only critique as far as flat out taste goes, “might you have been expecting more celery from a celery flavored gin?” Overall, quite nice. - theginisin.com "Superbly refreshing..." 5 Stars + - www.diffordsguide.com

Sacred founder and distiller Ian Hart grew up in the same house and London suburb of Highgate where Sacred Spirits was born. Ian was always fascinated with chemistry, and first turned to exploring his love of French wine. He then switched gears to distilling gin, and after a few trials, made his first bottle of gin (bottled by Hilary Whitney, his partner). They took the bottle to Ian's local pub and offered free samples and received direct, unfiltered feedback from some seasoned regulars. On recipe 23, the locals gave him the stamp of approval, and Sacred Spirits took off from there. Ian and Hilary refuse to follow the idea that pot distillation is the only and best way to make gin. They've proved that vacuum distilled spirits are every bit as flavourful than their pot distilled brethren. It's their opinion that because vacuum distillation occurs at a much lower temperature, it leaves the uncooked distillate lusher and fresher. -

Saint Felix Wild Forest Gin (700ml)Victoria, AUSTRALIA$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 42%A fortuitous experiment with mastic gum led to this novel gin. The northern Greek island of Chios is the only place where the mastic tree grows. Since ancient times, the tree’s sap has bestowed good fortune and prosperity on the island’s people. Celebrated for its rarity and diverse uses, including cooking and the creation of spirits, Saint Felix chose mastic as it’s high in alpha-pinene – just like juniper – offering a musky and pine-like taste that's perfect for gin. Cold and pot distillations were employed to harness the piney notes of the gum, paired with a bouquet of more traditional gin botanicals like juniper, angelica root, rosemary, bay leaf as well as native lemon myrtle. The aromas kick off pure, clean, fresh, juniper-forward and moderately intense. Don't be put off by the relatively low ABV - this delivers surprising concentration, and the flavours of crushed pine buds, rosemary and ripe lemon zest come wrapped up in a deliciously rounded, Pastis-like mouthfeel. How to serve? Keep it simple, over ice with a premium tonic, spruce it up with a slice of lemon. 42% Alc./Vol.

Saleyard's Distillery Billy Goat's Gin (700ml)Queensland, AUSTRALIA$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 42%Tasting note: Perfectly clear, silvery appearance. Opening pass finds pronounced lemon sherbet / lemonade gelato with little in the way of background botanicals detectable. Air contact adds only vague, almost indiscernible notes of pepper and muted juniper. Otherwise a lemon-fest. Slightly drier than the nose suggests with lively peel and white pepper warmth followed by hints of cool mint in the fade. A citrus-heavy style that needs more botanical input to balance. 42% Alc./Vol. -

Settlers Coriander Leaf Gin (700ml)McLaren Vale, South Australia, AUSTRALIA$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 43%If you love coriander, you'll just love this gin. Think seafood, Asian food and Vietnamese food - a perfect match. Try it with a lime slice and cracked pepper garnish. 43% Alc./Vol. Rowland and Shelley Short came to McLaren Vale around 2011. Rowland - an old sea dog, and therefore an enthusiastic gin drinker decided to bring to fruition his dream of a small batch artisan gin. It became an exercise in perfect sustainability - gin made from grapes grown on the property, then distilled on the property and finally bottled on the property - all by hand. Being a South Australian, some botanicals needed to be native to the state: Muntrie berries from the Coorong were chosen along with lemon myrtle from the Adelaide Hills. Rowland's grandson suggested “Settlers” as a name for the new spirits, picking up on the history of South Australia and its free settlers who arrived from the UK to take up land grants in the early 19th century. A diverse range of styles are now on offer, including pomegranate, breakfast tea, barrel aged and sloe gins, to name a few. -

We're serious about gin.
Distilleries both small and large from every continent on earth can now lay claim to a Gin. You could be cynical and suggest it's merely to maintain cash flow while more 'serious' barrel aged spirits mature. Gin is easy and cheap. After all, it's just flavoured vodka at the end of the day, right? That line of thinking misrepresents all this spirit can be in the hands of visionaries and fanatics. The freshest botanicals in high quality alcohol result in an exotic amalgam of accents and supporting notes that no white spirit can match. Perfumed complexity and bracing intensity are not the characteristics of every gin we taste - hence, it can't be that easy to achieve. From Navy Strength to organic to sloe gin, browse our range today. A long departure from the once "fuddy-duddy" association of the genre, Vickers, Gordon's and other ubiquitous brands are threatened to be swallowed in a giant yawn by the progressive, quality-savvy new-gin devotee. Trending classifications such as 'New Western' style (juniper evident but not dominant) are gaining prominence as are the use of indigenous botanicals and varied spirit bases, including non-grain. Barrel ageing is also gaining momentum. The vast improvement in quality has resulted in texture rich, neat/sipping friendly spirits. Yet, the traditional English and Dutch styles remain more relevant than ever in honouring the cocktail classics. Learn more today...
