Poltergeist A True Spirit Gin (700ml)

Tasmania is becoming a hot spot for world-class spirits. Here's another that stands out from the pack.
While the team at Shene Estate wait for whisky to mature, they've been making gin. A proprietary carbon filter system created from organic coconut shells was developed to reduce the 'louching' effect. It resulted in two gins with slightly different flavour profiles (arguably equally good), hence the team decided to launch both. This is the filtered version, modelled on a classic London dry.

Tasting note: Clear. The bouquet breaks loose from the glass with an earthy, piney, sappy fragrance; brief air contact deepens the aroma adding hints of lemon oregano, curry leaf, green cardamom, grapefruit, coriander... Palate entry is full flavoured, moderately viscous; mid palate dials up the intensity and pepper warmth, also creaming up the mouthfeel. Cool mint (menthol), oils and juniper, as well as touches of lead pencil and cedar through the finish; ends gracefully off-dry, savoury, fresh with trace citrus lingering. Complex, refreshing and nicely integrated. 46% Alc./Vol.
