2019 Patrick Piuze Butteaux Chablis Premier CruBurgundy, FRANCE$110. 00Bottle$1320.00 DozenABV: 13.5%Closure: CorkOther Reviews....
Offering up aromas of citrus oil, blanched almonds, drawn butter and white flowers, the 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux is medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural, its layered core of fruit girdled by bright acids, concluding with a long, saline finish. From very old vines growing in clay soils, this cuvée has turned out especially well in 2019.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Aug 2021)The 2019 Chablis Les Butteaux 1er Cru has an elegant bouquet of yellow plum, honeysuckle and touches of sea spray, all detailed and focused. The palate is crisp, taut and lightly spiced, with good depth, fine salinity and spiciness coming through toward the harmonious finish. Fine.

Neal Martin - VinousPatrick Piuze’s, butteaux is a more backward beast than his Forêts. Pale in colour, with little bouquet showing, there is a chalky texture and, some tannins are apparent on the palate. Notable weight behind and excellent acidity. Fills the mouth beautifully.

The 2019 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte de Bouqueyreaux is one of the highlights of Piuze's portfolio—as is invariably the case. Unwinding in the glass with notes of clear honey, Anjou pear, dried white flowers, fresh pastry and light reduction, it's full-bodied, satiny and chiseled, with superb concentration and a long, penetrating finish.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Aug 2021)The 2019 Chablis Bougros Côte de Bouquerots has a well-defined bouquet with hints of almond and white chocolate, developing a touch of slate with time. The harmonious palate is well balanced with a vibrant entry and a potent saline finish. One of the best 2019s from Puize.

Neal Martin - VinousThis is the last chance for this vineyard, which is part of the very steep slope above the road. It has since been pulled out. Fuller yellow. The nose is more restrained than the regular Bougros. There is an impressive core of powerful white fruit here, less spicy, but more intensity at the back with crystalline clarity.

2017 Patrick Piuze Chablis Les Clos Grand CruChablis, FRANCE$210. 00Bottle$2520.00 DozenOther Reviews…..
The 2017 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a very well defined bouquet with scents of citrus peel, albumen, almond and light granitic scents that become more pronounced with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, fine tension, quite sharp and saline towards the finish that urges you back for another sip. This has great potential. Drink 2020-2033.

Neal Martin – VinousElegant, cool and pure aromas consist of honeysuckle, white orchard fruit, mineral reduction and iodine wisps. There is excellent volume and richness to the intensely stony and muscular flavors that brim with dry extract that buffers the firm, powerful and driving finish that is quite dry as well as ultra-saline. Lovely but patience required. Drink 2025+

BurghoundThe 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos was reserved and reductive when I tasted it—the least extroverted of all the wines in Piuze's cellar, as is often the case with Les Clos. Notes of lemon oil, crisp peach and iodine mingling with smoky, leesy nuances introduce a full-bodied, deep and promising wine that is less monolithic than the Valmur but no less powerful. It's really too early to get a clear read on this, but its potential, at least, is clear.

The 2012 Chablis Blanchots is all about texture. A rich, broad wine, the 2012 wraps around the palate with enveloping, layered fruit. This special wine was created as a result of Penfold's ongoing super-premium white wine development program, designed to culminate in the release of Australia's 'ultimate white wine'. From time to time, Penfolds will release limited quantities of 'one off' white wines under the Reserve Bin label. These wines, made from premium quality fruit, are the result of blending experiments, using small quantities of wine. For this project, attention has focussed on premium, cool climate viticultural areas of Australia, such as the Adelaide Hills.
The 1994 Penfolds Bin 94A shows all the attributes of a great wine and is the first to be released under the new Reserve Bin label. It is arguably the best yet released under this development program and will continue to evolve with bottle maturation. The wine was 100% barrel fermented in new, one and two- year old French oak barrels and matured for 10 months on lees. The entire blend underwent malolactic fermentation.
Excellent full medium straw-green colour. The complex bouquet shows attractive, honeyed bottle development and superb, concentrated peach and tropical fruit, integrated with a butterscotch and cashew nut barrel fermentation character from fine, tightly-grained, French oak and extended time on yeast lees. The palate is well structured and full bodied, showing definitive melon Chardonnay flavours with creamy butterscotch and soft, nutty barrel ferment and malolactic ferment influences. The wine features great palate length and beautifully balanced oak, finishing with crisp acidity. Whilst tempting and attractive now, this Chardonnay is destined to age gracefully and will only reach its peak after many years of correct cellaring. It is a superb food wine and a great match for full flavoured white meat and seafood dishes.Winner of 2 trophies & 1 Gold Medal. 13.5% alcohol volume.

2023 Pieropan Soave ClassicoSoave, ITALY$37. 99Bottle$455.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 2 Years (2024-2026)ABV: 12%Closure: StelvinThe Pieropan winery is in the heart of the Classico zone and dates back to 1890. Leonildo ‘Nino’ Pieropan, who sadly passed away in 2018, was the first to show the world just how great Garganega, and Italian white wine, can be. He recognised the importance of terroir early on, acquiring various hillside vineyards and expanding the prestigious Calvarino and La Rocca vineyards, first made as single vineyard crus in 1971 and 1978 respectively.
Today, sons Dario (winemaker) and Andrea (viticulturist) continue the family tradition. The brothers have converted all of their vineyards to organic and are overseeing the new winery being built amongst the vineyards just outside the village. Made mostly from Garganega grapes with the inclusion of 15% Trebbiano di Soave.

Jumping out of the glass are spicy pear and red apple skin aromas which are intermeshed with some lime, quince and slate notes. Excellent intensity with crisp acidity lending a refreshing feel to the long, beautifully shaped finish.

Brothers Dario, the oenologist and Andrea, the agronomist, are responsible for more than 70ha of proprietary vineyards across both volcanic and limestone sites, while championing the indigenous varieties, Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave. Telltale aromas of white pepper, jasmine and ripe orchard fruit accents. While this is a blend from a litany of sites, each is vinified separately before blending. A fine smoky plume across an effortless, tenacious finish. A delicious, easygoing and highly fidelitous expression of the region. Drink or hold.
