A collaborative effort from Buffalo Trace Distillery, 'Traveller' brings together the collective artistry of 10X Grammy award-winning artist, Chris Stapleton and Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller, Harlen Wheatley. Over fifty blends were sampled before making Blend No.40 the chosen combination. Little is known about the whiskey, what it's composed of, and whether or not any of the whiskey within the blend was even distilled at Buffalo Trace. However, Sazerac has confirmed that it contains 0% grain neutral spirits and has also stated it is a completely unique combination of whiskeys hand selected from multiple distilleries. 45% Alc./Vol.

The first celebrity-themed whiskey associated with Buffalo Trace, Traveller Whiskey offers a unique flavor profile that will appeal to the masses, but leaves more discerning consumers wondering what actually makes up the blend...First and foremost, the flavor profile is unfamiliar, arguably sweet to a fault, but will likely satisfy casual, mainstream whiskey drinkers. It’s mild enough for the masses to sip, while it is light it does offer a degree of creaminess that allows it to take a cube fairly well, and it even holds up well in a cocktail. Don Fulano Tequila is the fruit of five generations of agave growers and a distilling heritage that brings together the Highlands of Jalisco and the Valleys of Tequila. Today the Fonseca family are not only respected farmers – they also run La Tequileña, one of the highest-rated and most awarded of Jalisco's distilleries. It is also the last family-owned operation that is 100% self-sufficient in agave supply, allowing them to control the quality of their tequila from farm to bottle. They introduced the Don Fulano brand back in 2002. Says Lance Cutler, California-based Author and Winemaker, “Fonseca consistently creates tequilas rich with agave character yet graced with a delicate finish. His penchant for long-term barrel aging allows him to blend in ways never before seen in tequila production. In effect, Fonseca has created an entirely new class of tequila.”
Don Fulano's Blanco is rested for six months in stainless steel before bottling. The aromas open resiny, developing an earthy, lightly smokey agave edge alongside dill, white pepper and green tomato chutney. Nicely weighted, the supple, juicy delivery is complemented by low-burn alcohol, trailing off with hints of candle wax, potpourri, brine, mustard pickle and pepper. Peppery and lightly green on the nose, but also laced with notes of cinnamon, giving the tequila a certain breakfast-adjacent quality. Otherwise it’s mild and approachable, one of the gentlest blanco tequilas I can recall nosing in years. The palate hardly detracts from that setup, adding notes of lemon and lime peels to that baking cabinet quality. A simple grind of white pepper, a spritz of floral perfume, and a gentle note of vanilla linger as the finish — short and to the point — comes into focus. The Ambonnay based Egly-Ouriet are a reference point for grower producers in Champagne, known for their impeccable vineyard management and fastidious winemaking skills. Much of their production is raised in oak barrels, with extended aging on lees a feature. As usual with Francis Egly's millesime, the blend is 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay from the same 40-year-old vines in Ambonnay, aged in barrel until bottling.

The 2015 Champagne Millésime is a bright straw color and is ripe and fruity on the nose, with aromas of black cherries, fresh violets, savory saline, and a hint of umami richness. The palate is full-bodied, with no phenolic bitterness, and never feels overtly savory. Pure, juicy, and inviting, it’s lovely and long on the palate, with a very pretty finish and a refined mousse that just frames the wine. It has a delicate note of toast that it needs time to harmonize, but I love what they have done with this vintage. Drink 2025-2045.

Olivier Leflaive was co-manager of Domaine Leflaive until 1994 before withdrawing to concentrate on his own venture which he started in 1985. Today the domaine produces wine from some 65 appellations with 85% of the production being white wine. One of Burgundy’s most respected producers the estate produces a number of domaine wines from its own vineyards alongside its range of negocé bottlings. The wines are made by Franck Grux and the theme in their wines is elegance and finesse rather than power with restrained use of oak and great purity of fruit.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a subtle greenish tint around the edges and a watery hue. Delightful white peach and dried honey aromas are intertwined with citrus, subtle roasted almond, nougat and gun flint notes. Elegant and fresh yet nicely fleshed across the mid weighted palate, white peach, citrus and dried honey flavours are featured over subtle nougat and infusions of gun flint. Fruit was sourced from the best two blocks of Chardonnay on West Cape Howe’s Langton vineyard and is barrel fermented (approximately 40% new) in oak with no malolactic fermentation.
Bright straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Nosing offers up scents of nectarine, citrus and bees wax which have a delicate toast overlay. Some lemon butter and spice notes are also evident. Medium bodied and creamy textured, nectarine, pear and citrus flavours are melded to lemon butter, dried honey, cashew and spicy nougat elements. Good freshness finishing full and texturally rounded.

Aberlour’s cask strength A’bunadh has long been a darling of single malt aficionados, released in batches, each varies in proof and flavour as proportions of older or younger material make the cut, but the brief remains the same: Make a 100% ex-oloroso sherry aged malt using the inventory at hand (anywhere from 5 to 25 years old). Keep it natural, which means zero chill filtration, keep it balanced and keep it affordable. No information about the number of bottles from each batch of A’bunadh is offered, but they're large outturns for a global community, which makes for a significant blending challenge. That hasn't stopped collectors and fans of sherried malts from stocking up on those that are deemed better than others. With or without water, whichever way you like it, A'bunadh is worth checking out as you encounter it, at least so long as value remains Pernod-Ricard's priority.

Other reviews... An enormously impressive whiskey. At just 4 years old, it’s very full-bodied and characterful, with good complexity. It doesn’t taste old or anything, but it’s reached the level of maturity where those younger grassy notes, present in Gaia 1.1, are absent in this second release. This Super Tuscan was first produced in 1985 and is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Sangiovese grapes with maturation taking place in French oak barriques (60% new) for a period of 18 months.
Dense pitch black core with a deep dark red black hue. Alluring aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and subtle liquorice infiltrate the olfactory senses complimented by hints of tobacco, vanillin cedar, dried herb and spicy earth notes. Rich and concentrated yet polished and refined the palate is flooded with fleshy blackcurrant, dark cherry and liquorice fruits which are framed by firm, muscular yet integrated tannins. Vanillin cedar, earthy tobacco, dried herb, black olive and spice elements lurk underneath. Outstanding in its power, it finishes very long and deeply fruited with a robust feel.

It’s not quite candylike either on nose or palate, but it’s definitely on the sweet side, and the palate presents a stronger note of caramel-covered apples, shortbread cookies, all dashed with vanilla. Beautiful stuff and one of the gems in the vintage, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Réservée shows ripe black cherries, scorched earth, sandalwood, and incredibly peppery garrigue and spice. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate and has a pure, focused, concentrated mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. While previously Cuvee Laurence was made from a specific barrel selection, today the wine is same blend as the Reserve except it has been aged in barrel for a longer period of time. The grapes are not destemmed, and the natural yeast fermentation is completed in traditional, cement vats before ageing in old, French oak barrels for an average of 4 years. This extended ageing in old casks allows for an osmosis between the suppleness of the tannins and the spices of the old wood. On average, close to 650 cases are produced each vintage of Domaine du Pegau Cuvee Laurence.

Tasted from bottle, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Laurence is heavenly stuff that tastes like the essence of Provence. Sporting a deeper ruby/plum hue as well as incredible notes of red and black fruits, new saddle leather, herbes de Provence, licorice, and God knows what else, these all carry to a full-bodied, powerful, unctuous effort that has tons of richness, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It reminds me of a great vintage from the late Henri Bonneau. It's ready to go today, yet I see no reason it shouldn't evolve gracefully over the coming 15+ years or more. Drink 2024 - 2040.

Chateau Meillac is a Bordeaux Superior from Domaine Serisier vineyards running down the slope of the limestone plateau one kilometre from Chateau Cadillac. The limestone plateau is one in a series of riverside hills and plateaus where the appellations of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol sit. Chateau Meillac, is located on the site near to the town of St Romain la Virvée.

I think Trevor Mast would have been mighty pleased to see this wine under his name. It is a cracker, reflecting a very good vintage. It comes off the single Home Block 4 which is the coolest on the vineyard. The key to the flavour development here was the extra hang time on the vine which has contributed to its polish refinement, tremendous depth and concentration of fruit. Highly perfumed aromas with oodles of spices working neatly with the ripe plummy fruit. It’s a plush and sumptuous wine of great balance and poise. Drink 2024-2039.

A delicious unoaked blend of Spain’s two most important grape varieties Garnacha and Tempranillo. Both are farmed at high altitude in Navarra with exposure to both the Atlantic Ocean and Pyrenees mountain ranges to produce a fresh, succulent blend that delivers fantastic bang for your buck.
Dark red core with black toned edges and a vibrant red purple tinged hue. Jumping from the glass are intense black cherry, liquorice and dark raspberry aromas infused with a mix of clove and incense. Some scorched earth and pepper notes follow on. Juicy dark raspberry, cherry and liquorice fruits carry a fleshy feel across the mid weighted palate with notions of scorched earth, clove and pepper lying underneath. Possessing polished tannins and plenty of freshness it has a long succulent finish that’s infused with clove and pepper.

There is an usual stony austerity in the 2021 Adrianna Vineyard River, cropped from a cold year when the full clusters fermented in concrete with a slightly shorter maceration and an élevage in a 2,000-liter oak foudre and the rest in stainless steel. It has a moderate 13.4% alcohol with very high acidity (8.2!) and a low pH (3.37), incredible parameters of freshness. The wine was closed and took time to take off in the glass, revealing a very elegant and subtle personality, with the silky texture of the very fine tannins, pristine aromas and flavors and a sense of harmony that was moving. It's powerful but extremely elegant in that rare combination of clout and energy, a wine of light, aerial, with some ethereal qualities, delicate and refined. This combines the cool place and high altitude, the cool year and the stony soils, to deliver a stunning Malbec that goes well beyond the variety. Bravo! 3,400 bottles produced. Drink: 2024-2040.

Roland Lavantureux founded his namesake Domaine in 1978 following completion of wine school in Beaune. Since then he has built a reputation for crafting some of the most consistent and reliable examples of Chablis from vineyards planted on the prized Kimmeridgian soils around the village of Lignorelles. The Domaine is now under the care of Roland's two sons Arnaud and David who have increased the family holdings to twenty-one hectares, adding single-vineyard cuvées while constantly striving for more complexity and layered texture in the mineral-driven wines they produce. Ferments are temperature controlled in stainless steel and all but the Petit-Chablis spends some time in 2 to 5 year old barriques. Whilst the Vaudesir is a mighty Grand Cru, the signature wine of the Domaine is the lieu-dit 'Vauprin' which is one of the highest vineyards in Chablis and gives remarkable mineral influence to the wine.

Coming from a 1.8ha plot, at one of the highest plantings of AP Chablis, this has more concentration than brothers David and Arnaud's 'straight' Chablis, with an additional mineral character balancing the concentration of fruit on the palate. Manages to have weight and force, yet remains light and delicate on its feet. A touch of wood adds a different type of complexity on the palate. Drink 2025 - 2029.
