- Ron Barcelo Dorado Rum (750ml)Santo Domingo, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC$54. 99Bottle$659.88 DozenABV: 37.5%
Ron Barceló was founded by Julian Barceló, a Spanish émigré born in Mallorca. He founded the company in 1930 under the name Barceló & Co in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, having arrived in the country in 1929. It did not take long for the Barcelo brand to became an essential reference amongst local rum brands, growing into one of the biggest and most prestigious Dominican Companies.
During the 1980s, Ron Barceló became the most popular rum in the Dominican Republic. Exports grew and the company began distribution outside of the Caribbean and America. In 1992, the company began an international campaign and, by 1994, Ron Barceló was exported to over 10 countries, with Spain as its biggest consumer. It's currently exported to over 50 countries and the range has just arrived in Australia.

Ron de Jeremy Reserva Rum (700ml)PANAMA$74. 99Bottle$899.88 DozenABV: 40%Unashamedly a brand concept spirit that doesn't take itself too seriously is Ron de Jeremy, named after the famed star of hundreds of gentleman's ‘artistic’ films. 'Ron' also means "Rum". The novelty would have worn off long ago if it weren't for the man behind the contents: Cuban Master Distiller, Francisco “Don Pancho” Fernandez, a.k.a "The Godfather". Having developed highly regarded brands including Zafra, Ron Abuelo and Havana Club, his input guarantees that substance hasn't been placed second to style when it comes to what goes inside the bottle. Molasses-based (the sugar cane is estate grown) and distilled in both pot and column stills at Alcoholes y Rones de Panama in South Central Panama, maturation takes place in ex-bourbon barrels for up to eight years.
If you're looking for a quality house rum with a profile that typifies the lighter side of the Caribbean, as well as a silky texture and body enough for mixing, this ticks all those boxes. In short, it's considerably better than you'd expect for a celebrity-affiliated spirit. Tasting note: Bright gold colour / shows good cling. Nicely scented with soft, semi-sweet notes of cream sponge cake, mocha, a touch of raw sugar and white pepper. Relaxed and creamy on entry, builds with good concentration into a semi-sweet, dried banana, vanilla wafer and clove profile with a very soft, whitepepper overlay. Finish sees an interesting grassy / elderflower-like note enter adding freshness. Concludes balanced, delicate and dry with moderate persistence and lingering banana cake in the fade. A satisfying, light'n'easy house pour rum for all applications. 40% Alc./Vol.

The Matusalem Rum company was started by the Camp brothers in 1872 as a family affair. The "new" Cuban rum rapidly caught on in the world's markets. In the early 1940's the company experienced a period of tremendous growth and by the 1950's it had already captured 50% of the Cuban market, making it the leading rum sold in Cuba. Today, descendents of the founders produce Ron Matusalem in the Dominican Republic. The brand “Matusalem” was named after the Biblical Patriarch, Methuselah who was said to have lived for 969 years, so symbolising the patient ageing and old world craftsmenship used to give Ron Matusalem Rum its exceptional flavour. The key to Matusalems’s Gran Reserva rum’s complexity is the Solera aging process where various mature rums are carefully blended together.

Ron Zacapa Centenario Sistema Solera 23 Rum (750ml)GUATEMALAReduced from $119.99$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 40%With more 5 Star user reviews around the web than almost any product we can think of, the consensus is clear: Zacapa is a silky, sultry indulgence that will satisfy anyone who enjoys sweeter rum styles.
First launched in 1976 and famously aged 'above the clouds', two and a half kilometres above sea level among the Guatemalan mountains and volcanoes, Zacapa's Solera 23 remains the flagship of the 'La Nacional' company, which continues to produce an extensive line of products accounting for 98% of the domestic spirits market in Guatemala. The brand is now part of the Diageo group.
Unlike most rums, Zacapa is distilled from 'Virgin honey' (a.k.a. sugar cane juice), not the denser molasses. It also employs a natural yeast culture originally sourced from pineapples. However, it's Zacapa's complicated maturation that really sets it apart. New distillate is combined with around 10% older rums, then the first ageing takes place in rejuvenated x Bourbon casks for two years, after which it's blended for a second time with more old material. The process is repeated a third time, after which it's racked into sherry butts for around two years. The final stage sees a 'finishing' in Pedro Ximenez sherry butts before being blended once more and rested in a large American oak vat for six months before bottling. The age of rums in the final mix ranges from 6 to 23 years old. Given all the effort that goes into production, it's no wonder this really is an exemplary example of the spirit. Its cornucopia of flavours and moderate sweetness makes it ideal straight up as an after dinner sipper, otherwise, we recommend keeping it simple: Add a couple of ice cubes and a twist of orange peel, or include a dash of aromatic bitters to create our favourite - the Zacapa 'Old Fashioned'.
Other reviews... Copper color. Sweet, peppery spice and dried tropical fruit aromas. A round, supple entry leads to a glycerous, slightly sweet medium-full body of brown sugar, dried cherries, guava, pineapple, cinnamon, and caramelized roasted nuts. Finishes with a sweet, light molasses and ashy mineral fade. A nice, supple, and surprising sweet aged rum. Should mix brilliantly, or enjoy as an after-dinner sipper. 40% Alc./Vol.

Ron Zacapa Centenario Heavenly Cask Collection El Alma The Soul Cask Sistema Solera 23 Rum (700ml)GUATEMALA$189. 99Bottle$2279.88 DozenABV: 40%A limited edition Guatemalan rum from Ron Zacapa's Heavenly Cask series. Essentially, the basis for these strictly limited bottlings is the ever-popular Ron Zacapa Centenario Sistema Solera 23, famous for undergoing a special aging process before bottling. The slight shift in focus is on four different cask types (ex-bourbon, specially re-charred ex-bourbon, ex-Oloroso sherry and ex-PX (sweet) sherry casks). In short, the usual high quality of Ron Zacapa is enhanced and complemented by the qualities of each cask finishing. Described as "Enigmatically toasted and rich", this edition spent a final maturation in extra charred x-American whiskey casks. It's a procedure that many single malt Scotch Whisky fans may already be familiar with: The deep charring allows the spirit to cycle deeper into the oak, presenting the drinker with a myriad of toasty, savoury aromas and flavours, as well as roasted almonds, cinnamon and sweet toffee. 40% Alc./Vol.
- Ron Zacapa Centenario Royal Rum (700ml)Mixco, GUATEMALA$399. 00Bottle$4788.00 DozenABV: 45%This is the new top of line rum from the legendary Gautamalean producer, Ron Zacapa, as selected by Master blender, Lorena Vasquez. Produced from first pressed sugar cane (aka virgin sugar honey) the rum is long-aged in Zacapa's unique solera system followed by a finishing period in French oak casks from 'Le Bois du Roy'. These casks are assembled from prized wood sourced from four French forests. Harvest has been restricted since the 13th century when they were owned by royalty. Consequently, Le Bois du Roy barrels have been reserved only for the finest vintages. Each decanter carries around its neck a 'Petate', a Royal Mayan symbol of the unity of time and space, earth and sky. Expect a super decadent rum with aromas and flavours of chocolate, toasted coconut, almonds, spice and caramel. A rum truly fit for royalty. This also comes bottled at a slightly higher ABV than other Zacapas. 45% Alc./Vol. Very limited stocks.

A blend of pot still rums aged for a minimum of four years in x-Jack Daniels barrels. The 100% tropical maturation gives it an 'already mature' character. It's another all-natural rum from Worthy Park with absolutely nothing added. Recommended in Rum Manhattans and Kingston Negronis.
Other reviews... As a sipping rum the this offers quite a nice experience. It’s very full flavoured and quite strong initally on the alcohol. Once again, the rum just needs a little time. After a couple of sips the alcohol begins to mellow and you will notice a sweet vanilla custard and some nice almost creamy fudge like notes. My initial assessment was that Rum-Bar Gold is closer to Hampden Gold than Appleton V/X but I’m starting to feel that despite all the upfront Jamaican funk rum it displays an underlying sweetness which neither of the other rums can attain. The rums in this blend are not high ester rums. The finish is quite long lasting and surprisingly mellow. That’s not to say this is a sweet rum in the sense of Zacapa or Diplomatico! It is a Jamaican pot still rum – no added sugar or other additives. However, it will be for many far more accessible than Smith & Cross, Hampden Gold or a Monymusk offering... Rum Bar Gold offers an experience much different to the other Jamaican Rums on the market. It is for a fairly young rum, quite complex and I certainly hope that people take the plunge and try a bottle whilst Tesco have stocks as I think they will be very pleasantly surprised. Excellent stuff...
4 Stars - thefatrumpirate.com..."The Gold presents a medium straw color in the glass. The nose is surprisingly subtle for a pot-still Jamaican rum. In time, it yields vanilla and stone fruits, like a fruit pastry. Taste-wise, the vanilla and barrel-wood spring forth, with little of the ripe banana hogo found in some Jamaican rums. The mouthfeel is very clean, with no hint of additives. It finishes dry, with the barest hint of honey. It will work well as a rum substitute in cocktail recipes calling for a similar 80-proof bourbon."

Sailor Jerry 92 Proof Spiced Carribean Rum (1000ml)UNITED STATES$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 46%‘Spiced’ is the generic name given to any rum to which a local herb or spice has been added and allowed to impart its particular flavour. Most commonly cinnamon, rosemary, aniseed and peppers are used. It's an acquired taste, however the best examples are deliciously different. Sailor Jerry is reportedly blended with caramel, vanilla and lime, and has sold itself with the slogan "Strong, but goes down smooth". Now just arrived is a new 92 proof bottling in a one litre format, with a slightly different claim of "bold & Smooth". Sailor Jerry rum is labelled as a tribute to both the man, Norman 'Sailor Jerry' Collins and the style of Rum 'Jerry' concocted and consumed whilst serving in the US Navy. Collins lived quite an extraordinary life, heavily influenced by artwork he saw whilst sailing in the Navy, he turned his hand to tattoo artistry, thanks to his Eastern influences and strong bonds forged with Japanese tattoo masters - the same masters that were responsible for the training and development of artists to carry on Japan's ancient tattoo tradition. Jerry is regarded as the foremost American tattoo artist of his time, his influences are still prevalent, despite his passing in 1973. Lovers of ink, raise a glass to Jerry! 46% Alc./Vol. -

1992 Samaroli Hampden 27 Year Old Cask Strength Jamaican Rum (700ml)JAMAICA$550. 00Bottle$6600.00 DozenABV: 54.5%Tasting note: [10ml sample] A rum that shows what can happen when careful and superior selection leave their mark: Pure magic. Still caney, profoundly rum-like and astoundingly fresh, the flavours are so beautifully arranged with an orchestral control to the point where language seems pointless. Samaroli demonstrates there are still amazing rums out there to be found, often flying beneath the radar. This is one, with a saturating, sensory attack that ascends two or three octaves before coming back to earth. For sheer length alone, it beats almost any other wood aged spirit. The aftertaste continues well beyond five minutes. One only available. A traditional 'French Rhum Agricole' from the tropical haven of Vietnam. Sampan Overproof has won a bunch of awards from various shows held around the world …Gold, Double Gold, Best of Region and many more. As a style, it's reported to be comparable to unaged Clairin or Paranubes.
Other reviews... The Sampan Vietnamese Rhum is made by the Distillerie d’Indochine: and Antoine Pourcuitte, a long haired Frenchman who seems to be channelling Fabio and who lives in Vietnam, is the man who bootstrapped his desire to make good rums into a business that combines a small hotel and bar close to the beach with a distillery he pretty much built himself (officially it opened for business in late 2018). This newly constructed establishment, which produces one of those excellent white rhums which must be causing the French islands conniption fits, is his brainchild… and it can take its place proudly in the league of small and new fast moving ops who are taking a pure rhum approach to distillation in Asia.... it doesn’t sink on the taste, but follows smoothly on from what had been discerned on the nose. Here, we didn’t just have a few olives, but what seemed like a whole grove of them. Again it tasted dirty, loamy, and also pungent, with initially clear notes of sweet sugar cane juice and sweet yellow corn, to which are added some lemon sherbet, vanilla and aromatic light fruits (pears, watermelon, strawberries) plus herbs – dill and basil. Soft and lightly sweet, and there’s a background hint of anise as well, or licorice, really nice. Throughout the tasting it stays firm and assertive on the tongue, with a near silky mouthfeel leading to an exit that is pleasantly long lasting and with closing notes of fruits, vanilla, coconut water, and breakfast spices. This is a really nice white rhum – it married the freshness of an agricole with the slight complexity of an entry level vieux and the balance between the various elements was very nicely handled. That pungent opening clearly makes the case that even with the resting period, it was an unaged rhum, something like the Sajous, the Paranubes, A1710, Toucan, Barbosa Grogue, HSE Parcellaire or others of that kind – I liked it a lot, and if it didn’t win any medals, I firmly believe it should at least win a few wallets. - thelonecaner.com
...Nose: Man, there is just SO MUCH going on in the nose. There’s a real fresh and lively quality to it as well. There’s cut grass and floral notes, there’s sweet candy floss and liquorice all sorts, but also salty olives. Freshly cut cane, earthy petrichor and even some citrus swirls by. Palate: Not as sweet as it smells, but certainly not dry, those fresh earthy notes are still there, I get some passionfruit, pineapple and pomegranate as well, and there’s also a sort of yeasty vibe going on (like fresh bread dough). What is surprising is how little pepper or heat there is at 54%. Finish: Oddly enough I get a bit of a ‘woody’ note in the finish, more of those earthy and sweet notes chase each other around, and there’s also some aniseed humbugs right at the last. - rumtribe.com.au

Santa Teresa 1796 Ron Anejo Gran Reserva Rum (750ml)VENEZUELA$59. 99Bottle$719.88 DozenABV: 40%The sibling to the fabulous 1796 standard edition, hailing from the Aragua valley near the capital Caracas. Easily one of the top rum values on our shelves.
Created to commemorate the distillery's 200th anniversary, this rum is matured in a French Limousin oak solera system for 8-12 years (a method borrowed from the Spanish sherry producers) and is the first premium anejo rum in the world to be aged using such a technique. With some portions reportedly in barrel for more than fifteen years, Santa Teresa delivers all the substance and style of Diplomatico's Reserva Exclusiva, only the profile is less sweet, the result is more elegant - even 'Cognac-esque'.Tasting notes: Deep copper. Sensuous bouquet offers a superb amalgam of vanilla, hazelnut chocolate, creme caramel and cream sponge cake. Fine tuned with perfect sweet-dry balance including flavours of bounty bar, mocha, caramel fudge finishing with a lingering white pepper, dried banana, buckwheat pancake and cocoa aftertaste. First class. 40% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... The first couple of whiffs pick up toasty notes of caramel, almond butter, cotton candy and very old oak; with aeration, more profound aromas develop including saddle leather, vanilla, Sherry and dark caramel. Palate entry is perfectly balanced and sweet; by midpalate the flavor profile is honeyed, slightly cocoa-like, buttery to the feel and utterly decadent. Finishes long, layered, creamy and dark chocolate bittersweet. 98 points - wineenthusiast.com
Deep amber color with an olive cast. Elegant aromas and flavors of toasted nuts, coffee gelato, dried tropical fruits and pepper with a satiny, medium-to-full body and lots of toffee, vanilla bean, and sweet tobacco notes of the long finish. A delicious, smooth, and artfully balanced aged rum for sipping, cigars, or world-class cocktails.

Single Cane Estate Worthy Park Jamaica Rum (1000ml)JAMAICAReduced from $149.99$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 40%Worthy Park is a locally-owned distillery as opposed to being a part of a multi-national corporation. While the estate dates to 1670, the current operation was built in 2005. Its single pot still makes a particularly recognisable Jamaican style that's found in many blends as well as the estate’s own brand. In this case, this is not an 'official' WP release. Instead, market giants, Bacardi are acting almost like an independent bottler. Their 'Single Cane Estate' label was introduced into the Travel Retail market in 2015. The rum here is reportedly aged between 2 and 5 years and promises a good introduction to the distillery's house style in a generous one litre format. 40% Alc./Vol.

Skipper Demerara Rum (700ml)GUYANA$69. 99Bottle$839.88 DozenABV: 40%Produced at Guyana’s Daimond Distillery (famous for the El Dorado range) this deep, dark little gem has been aged for at least 3 years in ex bourbon casks. Some of the seven rums in the blend are made using the distillery’s one-of-a-kind wooden stills. You’ve got to love the label artwork which is pretty much unchanged since the brand’s inception in the 1930s. Southern Coast Distillers Batch 01R Rum (700ml)Welland, South Australia, AUSTRALIA$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 46%The word is out, unfortunately this little venture is no longer. A formal newsletter was sent to Southern Coast Distillers members on December 4th, 2012 which can be found here.
The Southern Coast Distilling company was formed in May 2004 by three friends and their partners as a vehicle to build a South Australian Single Malt Distillery that will form a lasting legacy. The actual distilling first took place in January 2005 utilising the small 80 litre still built by the proprietors and named 'Monty' because it looked a bit like the cartoon character Monty Burns. They filled their first 50 litre cask from Tasmania in April 2005. Encouraged by their small success, "We realised that we could make passable spirit and that our worst case scenario of having large quantities of whisky to drink in our retirement if the endeavour failed was probably behind us. We immediately set about building a 600l still called Homer. Homer was commissioned on the 27th of June 2005 and charged with a wash of molasses to make rum the same day."
This rum was filled into a re-made and re-furbished, very heavily charred port cask made from American oak in May 2008. There was a very long fermentation using a wine yeast and Queensland molasses with acid balance provided by citrus fruit.
Tasting notes: [Batch 01R tasted] Pale gold colour. A dank wood aroma quickly blows off revealing attractive, sweet, estery aromas of brown sugar, dried banana, raisin and vanilla custard. The entry is soft and semi sweet, building with good concentration with flavours of dried banana and raisin toast. Gentle spices add depth. Creamy mouth feel. A little short but redeemed by a lengthy aftertaste of molasses, dried banana and spicy stewed fruits. A promising first release. 46% Alc./Vol. 180 bottles produced.

St. Lucia Distillers 1931 Rum (700ml) - 3rd EditionCaribbean,Reduced from $145.00$130. 00Bottle$1560.00 DozenABV: 43%This product contains some minor scuffing and bruising to the gift box. There may some small traces of sediment present, these do not affect the quality.
St Lucia Distillers are the makers of highly acclaimed rums such as Chairman's Reserve and Elements 8.
This 3rd Edition under the 1931 label was released to commemorate 82 years of the Dennery distillery in the Mabouya Valley (Dennery eventually merged in 1972 to become the St. Lucia Distillers). It's a blend of rums from Pot Still and Coffey Stills (double column). For this bottling, there's less detailed information regarding its composition than previous releases, however it's reportedly been aged between 6 to 12 years and a small amount of sugar has been added to 'finish it'. If you think this is strange for a rum, keep in mind that the Venuezalean classic, Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva also has some 'sugar honey' added before bottling. Although it makes for a more liqueured expression, it's also one of our biggest selling rums. 43% Alc./Vol.

- Chairman's Reserve 1931 Rum (700ml)SAINT LUCIA$185. 00Bottle$2220.00 DozenABV: 46%
St. Lucia's 1931 expression is considered the jewel in the crown for followers of this distillery. Made as a tribute to the founder, Denis Barnard and the year he established the distillery, the 1931 series was originally released to commemorate 80 years of St Lucian rum. From 2011 through to 2016, a new blend was released annually with each different edition sporting a different coloured label. This appears to be the 1931 going forward, now under the Chairman's Reserve label: A blend of fourteen distillates from four different stills (two John Dore, one Vendome and one Coffey still). The components are molasses based with added funk from an additional 10% Lucian agricole, produced using cane growing adjacent to the distillery. Both column and pot still rums are aged between 6 and 15 years. Maturation takes place in Bourbon and Port casks followed by a gentle filtration before bottling. Presentation remains in the tradition of the original series: An elegant flask-shaped decanter, complete with impressive wooden stopper. 46% Alc./Vol.
Notes from the producers... Vibrant medium gold in color with a subtle bronze hue, the character of the rum is highlighted by the expressive aromas of honied raisins and vibrant toasty oak notes followed by hints of leather, spice and tobacco. A well-balanced mid-palate provides structure around flavors of rich sultana fruit with hints of crème caramel and buttery oak. At first a sweet raisin fruit, trailed by dry and tannic flavors from the oak barrels. A hint of grassy aromatic sweetness from the sugarcane distillate gives a unique, hedonistic but balanced element to finish of the rum.

Chairman's Reserve White Rum (700ml)Castries, SAINT LUCIA$64. 99Bottle$779.88 DozenABV: 43%Tasting note: This is a blend of three to four year old rums distilled in a combination of copper pot stills and a Coffey still. It was aged in American white oak casks that once contained Jim Beam, Jack Daniels and Buffalo Trace Bourbons. Crystal clear / flawless and brilliant. Opens with scents of fairy floss, vanilla and hints of marshmallow. Second pass finds the aroma marginally subdued with suggestions of baked citrus, dried banana and grass. Middle-weighted, medium dry flavours of dried banana, vanilla and pepper. Chalky, gently spiced finish. Complex and beautifully balanced. 43% Alc./Vol. Other reviews... The marshmallow-like scent points towards the bold, rather sweet vanilla flavors to be found on the palate, with a raspberry note on the finish. 90 points - wineenthusiast.com - St. Lucia Distillers 1931 Rum (700ml) - First EditionCaribbean,$295. 00Bottle$3540.00 DozenABV: 43%

This '1st Edition' of 1931 was released in 2011 to commemorate 80 years of the Dennery distillery in the Mabouya Valley. It's a blend of rums from Pot Still and Coffey Stills (double column). For this bottling, nine casks, laid down between 1999 and 2004 were selected as amongst the finest of the distillery. The cask break down was seven American white Oak barrels from Jim Beam, Jack Daniels and Buffalo Trace and two x-Port casks. Chairman's Reserve Spiced Rum (700ml)Castries, SAINT LUCIA$84. 99Bottle$1019.88 DozenABV: 40%St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies is a small rum distillery situated in the scenically beautiful and agriculturally rich valley of Roseau on the Caribbean island of St Lucia. A passionate team of distillers and blenders work together to produce a range of over 25 rum and rum-related products, many of which have won honours at international competitions. This spiced version contains local spices and fruits including cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, coconut, all spice, lemon and orange. Also added is Richeria Grandis – known locally as “Bois Bande” – a bark renowned in the Caribbean as a potent aphrodisiac . The distiller's comment, "We have found Chairman’s Reserve Spice benefits from a combination of steeping certain spices and Bois Bande in the rum for up to a year while the other ingredients are added during the blending process. In this way we can bring out the flavour of the spices and fruits while preserving the complexity and harmony of the underlying rum." Considered by some the final word in the spiced rum genre and included in Wine Enthusiast's Top 50 spirits for 2011. Tasting note: Brillinat polished copper pot colour. Powerful and engaging opening aromas include bubble gum and ginger biscuit; more redolent of fruit cake in subsequent inspections. A creamy entry follows through to an off dry, stewed fruit, allspice and gingerbread profile with cinnamon, clove and gingerbread competing in the finish. Lovely balance and concentration with the mid palate sweetness nicely tempered in the fade. Up there with El Dorado as one of the best of its kind to hit the market to date. 40% Alc./Vol. Other reviews... So this is what all the bartenders have been talking about. Bright copper-penny color and a mulled-wine aroma rich with cloves, cassia bark, and sweet dried fruit notes. The flavor is delicately balanced, sweet and spiced but not too much of either. Ginger, cinnamon, and allspice take the leading role, not vanilla, from the first sip through to the lingering, lightly spicy finish. One of the few spiced rums worth sipping straight. 96 points - wineenthusiast.com Gold Medal. 2011 World Spirits Awards. -

Chairman's Reserve The Forgotten Casks Rum (700ml)SAINT LUCIAReduced from $119.99$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 40%The (accidentally) extra-aged version of a St. Lucia classic.
On May 2nd 2007 St. Lucia Distillers was struck by a major fire which destroyed the administration and blending facility. Mercifully most of the distillery was spared but suffered great problems with storage space for the casks. In the melee that followed cellar master, Mr. Cyril Mangal, was forced to find space for ageing casks in the most unusual places. Having done so the cellar team had a memory lapse and forgot the casks that had been laid down for the Chairman's Reserve. These casks were later discovered and upon tasting were found to contain a wonderfully complex rum which was decided to offer as a limited release.
A blend of Coffey and pot still rums, initial maturation took place in American white oak casks - Jim Beam, Jack Daniels and Buffalo Trace - separately by still. After blending, the rum was reintroduced to oak for a further five years. The standard Chairman’s Reserve is around 3 to 5 years old. This is apparently a combination of 6-11 year old material. 40% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... On the palate, this one is undeniably “rummy,” and a bit more boozy than you’d likely expect for the subdued proof point. Molasses and very dark toffee lead off, but once again this is quite fruity, with a combination of notes that range from the brighter red fruit of cranberry and cherry to dried fruit notes of raisin or prune. Fine oak spices then enter the picture, as do baking spice notes of clove and ginger. Again, I find myself thinking of boozy Christmas fruitcake, as the ethanol adds a slightly antiseptic character that perhaps knocks the enjoyment here down just a tad. All in all, this is a rich and fruit-driven aged rum that will definitely play well in cocktails calling for that kind of character, but it doesn’t quite have the complexity and array of flavors present in the Chairman’s Reserve 1931—in particular, the more earthy tones and the dark chocolate/coffee likely added by that expression’s port barrel aging. The Forgotten Casks is somewhat more straightforward than that, but it certainly packs a respectable punch for a mere 80 proofer. - pastemagazine.com

Carribbean Class.
Besides whisky - possibly the only other wood-aged spirit capable of arousing the same passions comes from ‘the reed which brings forth honey’ (without the help of bees)– mainly because it’s capable of a similar dizzying complexity and diversity that whisky achieves. Rums are as diverse as whiskies, and much depends on how the distiller and blender create their product. Rum is also thought to be the world's oldest spirit with its cultural heritage centered in the Caribbean and its history inextricably intertwined with colonialism, slavery and the creation of capitalism. If you haven't been inspired to try the aged rums of the Caribbean then you’ve got a lot to look forward to. This applies not only to those who’ve never moved beyond Bundaberg and Coke since high school, but more so to those who are serious about wine, whisky and brandy - in short, those of us who are passionate about ‘flavour’.
