Santa Teresa 1796 Ron Anejo Gran Reserva Rum (750ml)
The sibling to the fabulous 1796 standard edition, hailing from the Aragua valley near the capital Caracas. Aged for up to five years, well beyond Venezuela's minimum norm for the Rum classification, this sleek, light to medium bodied style offers raw sugar, molasses and hints of mixed peel on the nose, and a sweet, well-balanced, low-burn, somewhat pedestrian delivery; Cinnamon warmth mingles with dried banana and molasses cake, the finish rounds off in a flurry of all-spice, white pepper and subtle caney freshness (likely from a column still component). Sits comfortably alongside the best value easy-drinkers and cocktail rums in its category. 40% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... The aroma after the pour is lightly spicy and delicately brown sugar-like; air contact stirs deeper scents of molasses, dark caramel and lead/minerals. The palate entry is sugar sweet; at midpalate there's a taste rush to marshmallow, confectioner's sugar, oaky vanilla and light honey. Finishes gracefully, with lip-smacking tastes of bittersweet brown sugar and honey. Best Buy.
