1998 Sansibar Uitvlugt 17 Year Old Cask Strength Rum (700ml)

Distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2015, this rare edition from the now dismantled Uitvlugt Distillery in Guyana was bottled by German independent bottlers, Sansibar. Uitvlugt continues to operate today as a sugar refinery and producer of molasses, however the equipment used for rum production reportedly ceased operation in 2000. The column still was moved to the Diamond distillery, home of the exceptional El Dorado rums.

Tasting note: [Single cask No.45 bottling] Pure gold / ideal clarity. Yields powerful aromas of raw sugar, vanilla custard, fried banana and dates with a cinnamon and pepper warmth. Doesn't disappoint on the palate: A huge rum of considerable bittersweet depths, rallying on the finish with cascades of light molasses, raw sugar, banana chips, liquorice root and clove with a mouthfeel that defies the alcohol. Lovely sweet/dry juxtaposition. Lingering white chocolate / raw sugar and banana confectionery aftertaste. Buxom and beautifully balanced. Non chill filtered. 52% Alc./Vol. 237 bottles.
