Hartshorn Pure Sheep Whey Gin (500ml) - White BottleTasmania, AUSTRALIA$46. 99Bottle$563.88 DozenABV: 40%Pure Gin is dominated by juniper (50%) and coriander (35%), enhanced with the bright zest of fresh oranges and subtle hints of angelica root, cassia bark, liquorice root, orris root plus other classic botanicals. In short, a traditional London Dry to rival industry giants while preserving the signature viscosity that sets Hartshorn apart. Our tasting found juniper and potpourri on the nose, set in a mineral and cream base; the palate equally soft, round and creamy, backed up by juniper, subtle pastis, citrus, pepper and dried herbs with an unexpectedly spicy finish. Standalone it's a fine gin with the mouthfeel and presence of a quality vodka, but the keynotes could easily get lost in mixing. Over-dilution tends to reduce the botanicals and accent the creaminess of the whey based spirit. 40% Alc./Vol.

Hayman's Family Reserve Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 43.1%A new Hayman's that references the Gin Palaces of the past where gin would be sold straight from oak casks. To recreate the experience, this is rested in ex-Scotch whisky casks for three weeks before bottling. Tasting note: Pine, juniper and blackpepper feature followed by gentler notes of coriander, lemon pith and delicate cardamom. Quite concentrated with a piney/juniper, peppery off-dry attack and a creamy, lingering, dryish citrus peel and juniper finish. A robust and classically styled London dry. 41.3% Alc./Vol. - Hayman's 1850 Reserve Gin (700ml)UNITED KINGDOM$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 40%This latest addition to the Hayman's range harks back to the style of gin served in London's Gin Palaces in 1850. Hayman's Royal Dock of Deptford Navy Strength Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 57%Christopher Hayman joined James Burrough Limited in 1969 and was responsible for the distillation and production of Beefeater until 1987. He has since founded his own project to perfect and promote all things gin under his own label. Christopher's son, James became part of Hayman Distillers in 2004 and the venture has grown considerably with new products and exports to over 30 countries. The latest addition is full-throttle Navy Strength expression. The gin is based on the same style that was supplied to both the Royal Navy and trade from 1863. It was delivered to the Royal Dock in Deptford in South London on the River Thames. The dock was established in 1513 by Henry VIII. It was the largest of the Navy’s Food and Drinks headquarters with London being the largest port in England and other smaller ports in Gosport and Plymouth. Gin along with Rum was an essential part of the cargo. At 57% ABV, this is bottled at the strength required to ignite gunpowder if gin was spilt on it! We recommend you enjoy it in a Gimlet, Martini, Pink Lady or Aviation. Tasting note: Mildly prickly, piercing aromas of white pepper, intense dried juniper followed by lemon peel, dried coriander and late suggestions of tarragon. Huge, with an explosion of creamy juniper, pine needle, tongue tingling pepper and coriander seed. Concludes clean, tingly, warming with the alcohol carrying the flavours at length. Creamy-yet-fresh aftertaste. A massive statement in the juniper-forward London Dry genre. 57% Alc./Vol. - Hendrick's Grand Cabaret Gin (700ml)SCOTLAND$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenABV: 43.4%
No.4 in Drinkhacker's Top 10 Gins of 2024.
Other reviews... Hendrick’s Gin and its Cabinet of Curiosities line of special editions continues with this fifth release, Grand Cabaret, the first wandering of master distiller Lesley Gracie into the world of stone fruits as botanical ingredients. You won’t miss those stone fruits — they’re evident from the moment you pour the gin from the bottle. On the nose, bold notes of cherry and peaches are prominent, evoking fruit brandy more than any gin you might be imagining. Some blossom elements provide a slight break from the exuberant fruit notes, but they are comparably mild in relation to the bolder, juicy fruit quality. The palate holds no surprises: Slightly sweet, it’s a fruit bomb that again drops a torrent of peach, cherry, and some tropical elements on the imbiber. Florals are present mainly in the form of lilac and lavender, with orange and cherry blossom also in the mix. Juniper and the signature cucumber of standard Hendrick’s aren’t notable here until the finish emerges, where some gentle green herbaceousness finally shows its face. Still: Red fruit dominates, through and through. As gins go, this will be far afield from anything remotely familiar to most, but it’s certainly charming as a diversion and works very well in long drinks (think soda, cranberry juice, Prosecco, or ginger ale — or a combination of these). Whatever you do, don’t even think about using it in a martini. - drinkhacker.com

Note: This has come from a private collection and as such has some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product pictured.
Double Gold winner at the 2004 San Francisco International Spirits Competition of the Year, Hendrick’s is an iconoclastically produced small batch gin distilled in Ayrshire, Scotland. Apart from traditional Gin ingredients such as juniper berries, coriander and citrus peel, the unusual distillation process combined with an oddly delicious set of infusions (including cucumbers and rose petals) yields a one-of-a-kind gin that is passionately loved by a tiny yet growing handful of individuals all over the world. Our tasting revealed impressive intensity in the opening sniff which is gently peppery and floral with restrained juniper and sweet earthy, herbaceous scents. The aromas lead into a mid-weight, creamy textured and well-integrated amalgam of citrus peel / juniper / pepper; along with hints of dried flowers and cucumber towards the finish. A peppery flourish added late vibrancy while carrying the length. 41.4 Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... The nose offers wave after wave of botanical and floral perfumes, with the end bouquet focused on cucumber and spring garden floral scents. The palate entry is moderately oily, semisweet and gently herbal; the midpalate stays spirity, vegetal and earthy. The aftertaste features juniper with a dry and minerally undertaste. 85-89 points - wineenthusiast.com

Hendrick's Master Distiller, Lesley Gracie traveled to the Venezuelan Amazon in 2013. She spent three weeks in the rainforests with a local tribe learning about rare plants and fruits. The experience became the inspiration for a new gin. Like Hendrick's 'Orbium', Amazonia is based on the original Hendrick’s recipe employing their signature cucumber and Bulgarian Rosa Damascena, but with the addition of Amazon flora. The style here is described as "contemporary, bright and tropical”.
Says Gracie, “I have always had a profound love for nature and a fascination with the wondrous botanicals and essences of the world."
Originally a global travel retail release, for every bottle sold, "One Tree Planted", a non-profit organisation, will plant a tree in the Amazon. Try Amazonia with sliced cucumber, a pineapple cube, tonic and ice. 43.3% Alc./Vol.

Hendrick's Orbium Gin (700ml)SCOTLAND$120. 00Bottle$1440.00 DozenABV: 43.4%Master Distiller, Lesley Gracie has reimagined the classic Henrdick's in this new limited edition (in fact, it's the first-ever new Hendrick’s expression since the brand launched in 1999). While the base spirit and botanical bill is identical to Hendrick’s, three new post-distillation essences are added: Lotus Blossom (floral), Wormwood (think absinthe and Vermouth) and quinine (a key ingredient in tonic water). The result? According to Christopher Null at drinkhacker.com, "You could easily add Orbium to tonic water and while the resulting G&T might be the most quinine-heavy version of the cocktail you’ve tried, that might not be such a bad thing — particularly if you have an amaro tooth. Bring extra limes."
Bottled at 43.4% Alc./Vol., 5000 cases have been produced.Other reviews... Similar to both the Hendrick’s Gin standard-bearer and their other seasonal offering Hendrick’s Midsummer, Orbium Gin is exceedingly floral at first nose. Rose, Lotus Blossom and some earthy background notes immediately distinguish it as part of the Hendrick’s Gin Family. The palate is dominated by bitterness. While other botanicals do have their moments, the end result of Orbium Gin sipped neat is simply put as follows: if you don’t like tonic water, you won’t like Orbium Gin. If you don’t like Hendrick’s (other) gins, you won’t like Orbium Gin. Sweet citrus notes and subtle chamomile early. Wormwood comes on mid-palate and for me is the dominant bittering agent present here. It’s not wormwood in the way that it comes through in a distilled product. It’s much more like wormwood-macerated. The bitterness is green, distinctive, and dries out the palate in a way that I don’t normally find quinine does. Quinine comes on most strongly on the finish, with a slight metallic tinge. The wormwood amplifies the quinine note, adding bitterness to the mid-palate where quinine generally doesn’t add a whole lot (at least on its own, if it was cinchona you would get more woody and earthy notes). - theginisin.com

Herno believe gin shouldn’t be coloured as a marketing gimmick, hence their organic pink gin contains no additives such as colouring, artificial aromas or sugar. Distilled with eight botanicals including strawberries and rose petals, it's a fruity and floral gin that remains juniper predominant.Other reviews... As a total score I can´t give this anything less than 5/5! I usually like both flowery gins and the classic juniper heavy ones, this one is a well-balanced combination of both with a remained typical character of a Hernö gin. They promised a no-bullshit gin that wouldn’t be a marketing gimmick and that they deliver! It was released on the Swedish Systembolaget and online from UK on the 8th of April to a very reasonable price, so I recommend a purchase. - martiniwhisperer.com
Notes from Herno... NOSE: Loads of juniper upfront, crisp green forest. Fresh citrus and red fruits, a bit spicy. PALATE: Floral start followed by an array of sappy juniper, red fruits and coriander. A citrus forward gin with underlying spice and cassia. FINISH: Strawberries linger together with juniper and spicy notes, a mellow warmth and long finish. 42% Alc./Vol.

Herno Juniper Cask Gin (500ml)SWEDEN$125. 00Bottle$1500.00 DozenABV: 47%Upon its release in 2013, Hernö was officially the first distillery in the world to age gin in casks made out of juniper wood. The spirit is matured for one month in tiny 39.25 litre barrels before being bottled at 47%. Batches typically yield about 500 bottles, each one finished with a natural beeswax seal. Tasting note: [Batch 30 tasted] Very pale straw blush. Herbal / earthy / fresh opening sniffs are also sappy, resiny, peppery and pleasingly dry. 3-4 minutes finds fresh sawn pine, potpourri and hints of eucalyptus. Creamy, with vivacious lemon myrtle, peppery juniper and thyme flavours and a flare of alcohol lifting the finish. Excellent length and balance. Ends tangy, dry, peppery, lipsmacking. Delightful. 47% Alc./Vol. Unfiltered. Other reviews... Gold medal from International Spirits and Wine Competition (IWSC).
Gold / Outstanding IWSC 2015 together with Contemporary Gin Trophy. - Herno Botany Bay Limited Edition Gin (500ml)SWEDEN$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 43%Sweden's Hernö and Australia's Four Pillars have teamed up for the third release in the 'Interpretations' series, and the result is Botany Bay! Named after the place where Swedish botanist Dr. Daniel Solander landed in Australia, Botany Bay combines botanicals from both distillery's homelands. From Sweden you get lingonberry and meadowsweet, while from Australia comes wattleseed, Tasmanian pepper berry and lemon myrtle. The balance of this gin manages the signature of both distilleries without either dominating, which speaks to true collaboration. Notes from Brand Ambassador, John Raphael... Colour – Pure clarity even when exposed to lower temperature – Its diamond sparkle bright. Nose – True to the category, juniper & lemon but a unique balance of sweet against savoury without conflict, there’s a hint of raspberry somehow after 10min air contact and patience I get. Palate entry – Softness, lanolin and without any aggressive assault, you can drink this with ease, no one primary profile dominant for me, lemon peel maybe on top , vanilla, medium sweet with some savoury ( sage, hint of coriander ) yet no war between the two, delicious shift to anisette ( Aniseed ball lollies ) appear ( delicious ) with the lemon peel countering that profile, palate weight remains solid through the shift to finish with an evenness in balance which makes me consider the probable deft distillation that’s been afforded along with the quality Holstein still its ran through. Palate to finish – Its like a “ Martini in the mouth “ for me, ( a vermouth rinse would do ) finish leaves the same profiles with an oily yet baffling clean finish, it’s a really engaging gin experience, I can’t nail this one down but its sublime in its ability to keep you going back. Elegance is the single feature for me here. 43% Alc./Vol.

Himbrimi Old Tom Gin (500ml)ICELAND$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 40%The curious name derives from the Great Northern Diver bird otherwise known as the “Loon”. It means “Heaven Howler” in old Icelandic, in reference to the bird's mysterious song. Notable botanicals include hand-picked wild flowers, arctic thyme, angelica seeds and honey. Instead of re-distilling the gin multiple times in order to obtain the purist result, the team at Himbrini employ pure ingredients and leave it in its “raw state”. This cold-compound method is a traditional technique that’s said to work particularly well for the sweeter Old Tom style. Holyrood Height of Arrows Bright Gin (700ml)Edinburgh, SCOTLANDReduced from $120.00$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 48%A bold and fascinating gin created using just three ingredients: Juniper, Isle of Skye sea salt and beeswax. Managing Director of Holyrood Distillery, Nick Ravenhall comments, “...we have made a gin that is distilled from our DNA as whisky makers. In whisky making we work with simplicity. Barley, water and yeast. We’ve taken this same mind set to Height of Arrows and created a complex gin born from juniper alone taking centre stage. Our hope is that gin fans will be thrilled to explore a new direction in modern gin; one that elevates today’s gin drinking experience.”
Employing a multi-shot distilling technique that concentrates botanical flavours, Holyrood include over three times the juniper found in their 'Original' Height of Arrows gin. Bottled at a generous 48% ABV, what you end up with is a spirit that's big, bright and bursting with complexity.
Other reviews... Height of Arrows Bright is very much the ‘big sister’ to Original. It has similar tasting notes but much more vibrant and… well… bright!... The higher ABV and increased botanical mass really jump out the glass, with big aromas of piney juniper and zesty citrus, the latter of which are more prominent than in Original. - fromtheginshelf.com

Holyrood Height of Arrows Heavy Gin (700ml)Edinburgh, SCOTLANDReduced from $120.00$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 46%From an upstart distillery in Edinburgh comes their first official spirit: Holyrood Gin. With a penchant for thinking outside of the square, this is no ordinary gin. Drawing on the fact that whisky’s myriad flavours rely on a handful of ingredients, Height of Arrows rejects the idea of numerous botanical additions. And in the same way as toasted malt is employed for whisky production, roasting spices has long been known to extract a more complex flavour. So Holyrood roasted juniper, extracting more robust (or 'heavy') flavours that were then balanced by a small addition of sugar after distillation bringing a subtle sweetness. All up, it's really an Old Tom style gin, but expect it to taste a little different than most. 46% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... “A heavier, bolder version of Height of Arrows Gin, with deeper juniper than the original, more botanical intensity and a spicier profile overall. Delicious in a Negroni”. - Spirits Kiosk.

Tasting note: Clear, drier styled aromatics with upfront aniseed nicely harmonised with restrained juniper. Air contact draws out lemon cough lozenge, hints of tarragon and muted white pepper but aniseed remains the keynote. A softly textured, slightly broad delivery with low-key spices, understated piney juniper and a delicious aniseed burst to finish. Hurdle Creek Still Yardarm Gin (700ml)Victoria, AUSTRALIA$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 42%Commencing operation in March 2016, this family run, Milawa based distillery is unlike many Australian gin distillers, choosing to make their own base spirit rather than buying it in bulk. Distilled a minimum of three times using Victorian unmalted barley and oats blended with malted barley, vapour infused botanicals are grown locally and include coriander, fennel, hops, pink pepper corns, orange peel and lime leaves. The intent is to grow liquorice, aniseed, lemon and aniseed myrtle along with juniper. Yardarm is described as a "vapour infused New World style" and named for the horizontal spar that supports sails on a square rigged sailing ship. Tradition has it that once the sun has risen in the sky above the yardarm, as viewed from the deck below, it's time for the first gin of the day. Tasting note: Crystal clear with a slightly oily appearance in the glass. Generous aromas of citrus zest, sweet oregano, thyme and delicate lavender over ripe juniper. Air contact emphasises piney juniper. Deceptively soft entry builds with off dry, fresh flavours of lemon verbena, pepperberry, lemon gelato and a medium long, creamy, lemon-accented finish. Well rounded with nice vibrancy and length. Auspicious beginnings. 42% Alc./Vol. -

Indian Summer Saffron Infused Gin (700ml)SCOTLAND$69. 99Bottle$839.88 DozenABV: 46%Released by Duncan Taylor, a company better known for their indie whisky bottlings, Indian Summer Gin follows the likes of Gabriel Boudier and Old Raj with a generous input from one of the world’s most expensive spices. Labelled as "Double Gold Saffron", this is bottled at 46% Alc./Vol. Other reviews… If the retail price of spices by the ounce is any indication, there might be only two better than cardamom and one better than vanilla: Saffron. These extraordinary threads from the Saffron Crocus have been used as both a spice and colorant for centuries, hence given its bright hue it should come as no surprise that many gins which choose to add the priceless botanical do so post distillation via infusion. This ensures firstly that your spirit will have a gentle golden hue. Secondly, it will ensure that the delicate flavor is clear and present (it would take much, much more saffron to get the same pronounced flavor through distillation). As the price is high, and infusion ensures a little will go along way, all of the major gins on the market (including Indian Summer) do so by this methodology. Indian Summer Gin takes a classic-style botanical bill, infuses some saffron and comes out with what could be a winner. Smartly bottled at over 90 proof, the flavors are clear and vibrant, and the spirit is smooth and dry. Classic style gin fans will find something to like here, with familiar botanicals highlighted along-side the saffron. Fans of contemporary gin, might find it a little less ambitious than the name might imply. Indian Summer Gin aims to appeal to both audiences, and from this vantage point looks to have pulled it off. - theginisin.com -

Isle of Arran Gin Co. Arran Gin (700ml)SCOTLAND$110. 00Bottle$1320.00 DozenABV: 42%Tasting note: Made from hand-foraged botanicals from the Isle of Arran, the distillation and bottling takes place on the mainland not too far from Edradour. On the nose, it's a curious arrangement of potpourri combined with ginger bread, cinnamon, white pepper and frail nutmeg; air-time adding hints of nettles, seashells and low key grapefruit. The dryish delivery finds earthy juniper and lavender with crushed pine buds and pepper developing through the finish. The result is a slightly disjointed coastal style. Odd yet interesting. Try it with Rose Lemonade or Mediterranian Tonic. 42% Alc/Vol. -

"...really fresh, like a coastal Scottish breeze – it’s quite transportational." - fromtheginshelf.com
One of a growing number of maritime-influenced gins, Barra arrives from Scotland’s most westward Isle of the same name. The gin is vapour distilled using seventeen botanicals, the most unusual contribution being from foraged carrageen seaweed - a type of red algae that grows on the shores and shallows surrounding the island. Like many of the other seaweed varieties found on the Scottish coast, carrageen is harvested after the Spring tides when the water is furthest from the shore. Each piece of seaweed is washed with fresh water and left outdoors for 5-6 weeks for the wind and sun to dry or ‘bleach'. It all sounds very exotic, and while you might detect hints of kelp and rock pools in the profile, Barra is essentially a full flavoured London dry with a twist. Aromatically, the bouquet offers a combination of saline-juniper-citrus freshness; the entry is light and breezy but fills out considerably becoming creamy and full bodied with flavours leaning towards ripe Meyer lemons, woody juniper, applemint, anise and sea-spray. The finish ramps up the intensity accenting zesty peel, pepper and warming spices. Uncut it's a gin with nice texture and kick, but one that should also stand up to mixing. The clearance price makes for a steal. Stock up for Summer. 46% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... On the nose, it smells amazing! Juniper, florals and citrus are all present with a subtle saltiness coming through. The floral and sweet notes come through on the palate with a hint of warming spice, while the finish has a slight salinity and a long burst of herbaceous menthol from the carageen. I’ll be honest, with the first few sips, I’m not blown away. It’s such an unusual flavour profile and miles away from what I was expecting. The more I go back to it however, the more pleasant I find it, as my palate adjusts. It’s really fresh, like a coastal Scottish breeze – it’s quite transportational. - fromtheginshelf.com

Jawbox Belfast Cut Classic Dry Gin (700ml)IRELANDReduced from $89.99$74. 99Bottle$899.88 DozenABV: 43%Another Gin entry from Ireland, named in honour of one of our Belfast's lasting legacies, the Belfast sink, a.k.a. the Jawbox. Slowly distilled in a traditional copper pot still, botanicals are steeped overnight in the warm spirit. As well as this, three of the botanicals use the vapour extraction method to preserve their delicate flavour and aroma. This is reportedly the first Irish Gin to be 100% harvested, distilled and bottled by hand on one estate. Tasting note: [20ml sample] The nose builds with good freshness and intensity, accenting piney, sappy, green aromas over hints of citrus peel and white pepper. Middle-weight with a juniper and citrus led delivery. Budding spices gain momentum towards the finish. Fades with hints of lemon verbena / home-made lemonade and faint juniper. A well crafted London dry with a pleasing interplay of spice and citrus. The producers recommended trying it with Ginger Ale and a wedge of lime. 43% Alc./Vol. -

Jensen's Old Tom Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOM$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 43%Founded by avid Gin historian, Christian Jensen, this micro distillery is at the vanguard of Gin distillation’s return to its spiritual home of London. Using a 500 litre, stainless steel and copper still made in London by John Dore and co. head distiller Dr Anne Brock meticulously crafts tiny batches based on Christian’s extensive research. Jensen’s Old Tom is based on a recipe Christian sourced from a distiller's handbook written in the 1840s. A recreation of the Gin style first shipped to America, this isn't sweet like most modern Old Toms, but dry and earthy with an accent on root botanicals. In fact it meets the EU requirements for London Dry Gin. Jensen’s Brand ambassador, Hannah Lanfear (also one of planet Earth’s more talented bartenders) recommends it for robust cocktails like the Negroni or for a prototypical Martinez. Tasting note: Clear. Light to moderate aromas of mineral, white pepper and orris root (?) Low key juniper and citrus peel. A very pure, soft-textured style with a delicate earthy / peppery edge. Very subtle flavours hint at juniper, coriander and parsnip through the creamy finish. Ends dry, fresh, warming, perfectly balanced. Quite dry for the genre. 43% Alc./Vol. -

Jensen's Bermondsey Dry Gin (700ml)London, UNITED KINGDOMReduced from $99.99$49. 99Bottle$599.88 DozenABV: 43%"London Dry gin at its most refined." - martiniwhisperer.com
Founded by avid Gin historian, Christian Jensen, this micro distillery is at the vanguard of Gin distillation’s return to its spiritual home of London. Using a 500 litre stainless steel and copper still made by the UK's John Dore and Co., Head Distiller Dr Anne Brock meticulously crafts tiny batches based on Christian’s extensive research. Their Bermondsey expression is a nuanced interpretation of London Dry, alternatively described as a recreation of a lost, full-bodied style using a more balanced recipe than became common in the latter part of the century. Less juniper centric, it shines a light of the full spectrum of classic gin botanicals, making it the quintessential choice for dry Martinis. All botanicals are steeped in the still in British wheat base spirit. The precise list of ingredients remains undisclosed.
Our tasting found moderate aromas that are initially juniper-forward, then bordering on floral. Air contact adds subtle coriander, distant whiffs of black pepper, lemon peel and piney eucalyptus-like freshness. This is a gin that's easy to sip straight, with nicely integrated juniper, lemon myrtle and white pepper flavours and a creamy, delicate pine wood finish. All up, it's a soft, dry, middle-weight London Dry style to suit a variety of applications, with Martinis topping the list. 43% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... No one botanical dominated, rather it was a harmonious whole. Although it can be versatile enough in a range of cocktails, or a G+T, it seems to me that this gin is destined for the Martini. Clean, and subtle, you get the hints of the botanicals as you go along. A very agreeable cocktail hour companion indeed. It epitomised the class you expect from the golden era of Martinis in London at places like the Savoy or Dorchester. Refinement in a glass. - martiniwhisperer.com
...Aroma of coriander and bright citrus notes are first to appear before juniper and a little licorice sets in. There may be less juniper in the batch, but because the gin lacks earthy, rooty aromas, it allows the other botanicals to rise higher and shine a little brighter. The gin is soft on your palate and seems to quickly leave without leaving much bitterness from the piney juniper. A hint of violet whispers to you an adieu. 90 points - distiller.com

Jinzu Gin (700ml)SCOTLAND$69. 99Bottle$839.88 DozenABV: 41.3%This was the gin that won Diageo's "Show Your Spirit Competition" in 2013, which challenges Europe's bartenders to create exciting new spirits for inclusion in Diageo’s Reserve Brands portfolio. The winner, Dee Davies, merged traditional botanicals with cherry blossom, yuzu and sake to create an East meets West hybrid. The gin went into production at Diageo’s Cameronbridge distillery in Scotland and was initially distilled under the watchful eye of Tanqueray's Tom Nichol. The Junmai sake was also produced onsite. After the two components were blended, the gin was cut back with demineralised water. In short, it's a gin that's Scottish made but Japanese inspired (the name comes from a river in the Toyama prefecture). For anyone who enjoyed Cambridge Distillery's wonderful 'Japanese Gin', this should equally appeal. Jinzu has already garnered very good reports on the blogosphere. The beautiful packaging is a plus. Tasting note: Atypical aromas with an interesting fruity aspect: mandarnine / lemon? Green apple? Fruit blossom? Muted whitepaper warmth. Viscous, mildly yeasty-bready entry building with low key juniper and flavours of herbal tea and chamomile, turning almost sake-like to finish. Excellent balance. Intriguing Asian-inspired gin. 41.3% Alc./Vol. - JJ Whitley Pink Cherry Gin (700ml)UNITED KINGDOM$44. 99Bottle$539.88 DozenABV: 38.6%A relatively new addition to the JJ Whitley family of gin-based flavours, inspired by the British countryside. Junipero Gin (700ml)San Francisco, UNITED STATES$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenABV: 49.3%The Anchor Distilling Company, established in 1993, is dedicated to creating very small batches of traditionally distilled spirits of many types and styles.
Junípero Gin is another addition to the classic 'dry gin' tradition, utilizing more than a dozen botanicals in their natural state, in a small copper pot still at Anchor’s Potrero Hill distillery in San Francisco.
But the wonderful challenge for the contemporary distiller is in selecting and blending from a wide variety of additional, exotic botanicals in order to impart a uniquely satisfying, balanced character to his gin. Anchor Distilling have taken delight in the adventure of researching and experimenting with many such botanicals. They believe they have achieved a distinctive, intriguing complexity in their Junípero Gin: light and crisp and clean, combining a spiciness – the formula for a Martini with subtle delicacy. Martini Republic’s description hits it on the head: “Clean but not light like Plymouth. It is smooth but not the least bit tame, the spices shining through and the finish leaving a bit of a tang in the nose. The aroma is not as strong as, nor as mediciny as Bombay.” While Lawrence Marcus from Variety comments, “...this does the London Dry style better than anything from the U.K. Power, spice, perfume and balance: It might be the most perfect gin around.”
Tasting note: Brilliant clarity. Opens with some unusual linseed oil-like aromas but settles into a restrained, fresh lemon peel, pepper, spice and piney juniper profile with impressive purity and balance at high abv. A vibrant, elegant and crisp gin for stylish martinis. 49.3% Alc/Vol.

We're serious about gin.
Distilleries both small and large from every continent on earth can now lay claim to a Gin. You could be cynical and suggest it's merely to maintain cash flow while more 'serious' barrel aged spirits mature. Gin is easy and cheap. After all, it's just flavoured vodka at the end of the day, right? That line of thinking misrepresents all this spirit can be in the hands of visionaries and fanatics. The freshest botanicals in high quality alcohol result in an exotic amalgam of accents and supporting notes that no white spirit can match. Perfumed complexity and bracing intensity are not the characteristics of every gin we taste - hence, it can't be that easy to achieve. From Navy Strength to organic to sloe gin, browse our range today. A long departure from the once "fuddy-duddy" association of the genre, Vickers, Gordon's and other ubiquitous brands are threatened to be swallowed in a giant yawn by the progressive, quality-savvy new-gin devotee. Trending classifications such as 'New Western' style (juniper evident but not dominant) are gaining prominence as are the use of indigenous botanicals and varied spirit bases, including non-grain. Barrel ageing is also gaining momentum. The vast improvement in quality has resulted in texture rich, neat/sipping friendly spirits. Yet, the traditional English and Dutch styles remain more relevant than ever in honouring the cocktail classics. Learn more today...
