2018 Arnaud Lambert Saumur St Cyr en Bourg Coulee de St CyrSaumur, Loire Valley, FRANCE$76. 99Bottle$923.88 DozenABV: 13.5%Closure: CorkArnaud Lambert is considered to be one of the most talented winemakers in Loire, regularly producing what are amongst the best wines in and around Saumur. Arnaud studied in Dijon and has bought that Burgundian approach to his winemaking and to expressing each vineyard site. Bio-dynamic viticulture is practiced in the vineyards, and the goal is to highlight each individual terroir and realise each vineyard sites potential.
Coulee de St Cyr is sourced from vines averaging 70 years old on about 30 cm of sandy-clay silt over limestone. Grapes are whole-bunch pressed and vinified with indigenous yeast and aged on fine lees for 12 months in a combination of new and 1-3 year-old barriques. The wine is then returned to tank for another 8 months of ageing on fine lees, bottled unfined and unfiltered.

From an east-facing 1.7-hectare plot (Les Perriéres) on top of the SCB hill, the 2018 Saumur Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg Coulée de St-Cyr opens with a deep, pure, yet intense and complex bouquet of ripe fruits intertwined with notes of crushed limestone and popcorn. Pure, refined and salty on the palate, this is a full-bodied, quite rich yet tight, fresh and persistently salty Chenin with fine yet sustainable tannins and a lot of nervy lime juice, salt and tension. This is a fantastic Chenin from limestone terroir (topped with a 50-centimeter layer of clay and salt) that is normally used for Cabernet Franc. I tasted the wine from the same bottle over 14 days, and I'd say the wine got finer and finer. Tasted in April 2021. Drink 2021 - 2038.

Bright straw colour with greenish highlights around the edges and a watery hue. Lofty white peach and honeycomb aromas stream out of the glass followed by light butterscotch, cashew and citrusy nougat notes. Boasting plenty of body weight, this rich creamy textured Chardonnay is amply endowed with ripe peach, honeycomb and butterscotch flavours over a back drop of biscuity cashew, citrusy nougat and spice characters. Finishes with excellent drive and remarkable freshness given that it’s a fuller style. A long moreish aftertaste completes a picture of exceptional value.

no mean feat for a $20 wine. The 2015 Felino offers a rich, riper styled, yet fresh Chardonnay that has plenty of early drinking appeal.

Brilliant straw colour with a watery hue. Pronounced ripe peach and apricot aromas are laced with honeycomb followed by citrusy nougat and spice. Rich mouthfilling flavours of ripe peaches, apricots and dried honey embellish the palate overlaying a back drop of citrusy nougat with a spicy finish. Despite the fullness and textural creaminess of the wine the finish is fresh and lively. Medium to long aftertaste of spicy peaches and apricots, dried honey and spicy nougat.

2020 Domaine Vincent Dancer Bourgogne BlancBurgundy, FRANCE$120. 00Bottle$1440.00 DozenABV: 13%Closure: CorkVincent Dancer runs a tiny operation based in chassagne-Montrachet where he crafts his wines from five hectares of well-situated vineyards. The winery is small even by the standards of Burgundy, and despite Dancer’s reclusive nature, the wines are well known to a small circle of restaurateurs and wine-lovers who reliably take their miniscule allocation year after year. Vincent is quietly individualistic, creating his own lean, bright, and savory style of wines, trusting his instincts and experience to make the best possible wine in his own way.
Dancer's Bourgogne Blanc is sourced from two different vineyards: one in Meursault (planted in 2001); and one in Puligny-Montrachet (planted in 1990). Vinification is both in tank and old oak, and is more villages-level quality than its humble appellation may suggest. This is a wine of terrific gravitas and complexity for its status; it’s got real density but also wonderful vibrancy.
Other Reviews....
Ripe and agreeably fresh aromas of apple, pear and citrus nuances lead to appealingly textured middle weight flavors that conclude in a clean, dry and balanced finale that offers better depth than is typical for the appellation. Drink through 2023+.

Allen Meadows - BurghoundNotes of pear, confit citrus, fresh pastry and almonds introduce the 2020 Bourgogne Blanc, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine that's bright and saline. Concentrated and textural, this is very promising.

Fresh aromas include those of just sliced apple, pear and citrus whiffs. Rich and relatively full-bodied flavors flash a touch of austerity on the solidly complex and persistent finish. This is potentially an excellent Bourgogne. Drink 2023+.

2021 Vincent Dauvissat Chablis la Forest Premier CruChablis, FRANCE$399. 00Bottle$4788.00 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews....
There is a hint of phenolic character on the aromas of crushed leaf, mineral reduction, lemon-lime and seaweed. The denser, succulent and powerful larger-scaled flavors are supported by a firm acid spine on the stony, youthfully austere and bitter citrus rind finale. This is quite dry and I very much like the balance though I would note that at least some patience is strongly suggested as this is quite tightly wound today. In a word, terrific. Drink through 2033+.

Allen Meadows - BurghoundThe 2021 Chablis 1er Cru La Forest is a young classic, mingling scents of sweet citrus oil and peach with notions of white flowers, struck match, bee pollen and youthful reduction in an incipiently complex bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and textural, it's concentrated, taut and incisive, with a long, mineral finish. Drink 2025-2045.

William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateOne of the Dauvissat specialities, the La Forest is a triumph in 2021. From seven small parcels, the total site is less than 1ha with average vine age more than 40 years. Intriguing, slightly smoky nose, highly distinctive and different to others in the range. Plenty of power, ripe stone fruit flavours, zesty citrus acidity with a herbaceous edge adding an extra dimension. Definitely of grand cru quality. Drink 2024-2032.

2018 Vincent Dauvissat Chablis la Forest Premier CruChablis, FRANCE$399. 00Bottle$4788.00 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews....
Like the Montée de Tonnerre this is overtly floral in character on the lightly spiced nose that displays additional aromas of mineral reduction, iodine, lemon peel and pear. There is a really lovely sense of verve suffusing the powerful yet reasonably refined larger-scaled flavors that culminate in an almost chewy bone-dry finish thanks to the abundance of sappy dry extract. This muscular effort isn't as refined as the Montée de Tonnerre but it's just as complex and persistent. Drink through 2030+.

Allen Meadows - BurghoundThe 2018 Chablis 1er Cru La Forest is also showing well, opening in the glass with aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, citrus oil, beeswax, honeycomb and oyster shell. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, it's fleshy and enveloping, with a lovely spine of acidity and a long, saline finish. Like the Vaillons, this is quite demonstrative for a young Dauvissat Forest, and it will deliver considerable pleasure straight out of the gates. Drink 2021-2040.

William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2018 Chablis Forêts 1er Cru is clearly a step up from the Village Cru, displaying better definition and mineralité, smoke and subtle white chocolate notes, and more energy than the Village Cru. The palate is very well balanced with a spicy, tangy, marmalade-tinged opening. Great depth here, and a powerful, lightly honeyed finish. Excellent. Drink 2022-2030.

Neal Martin - VinousPicked in several passages, the last reaching 14 degrees. The wine is as pale in colour as others in the cellar, with an engaging freshness. In fact this does not come over as too ripe at all. There is significant weight here, white fruit, a touch fleshy at the back, a wine which is biding its time.

Jasper Morris MW - Inside BurgundyForward, lush aromas of melon, guava and ripe apricots touched with honey. The texture is voluptuous, full in body, just enough acidity and a substantial weight enlivened by a subtle, pleasantly bitter note. Complex and dynamic, ideally one would wait at least another five years before opening and drink over the next 30. Drink 2030-2060.
