Aromas of nectarine and pear are intertwined with citrus and faint notes of dried honey, biscuit and gun flint. Fleshy nectarine and citrus fruits overlay a delicate dried honey, biscuity oak and gun flint back drop. Lively acidity lends a brisk feel to the refined mid length conclusion.

Ultra-pleasing chardonnay here. Even, flowing richness metered by bright acidity, all the hallmark stone fruits, apple, woody spices, nougat, vanilla going on. Supple but with a faint chalkiness, great extension of flavour, a general sense of vibrancy and drinkability. It feels dictionary definition but also a plus up on that, more of everything, and balanced beautifully. What a delight. Class above its pay grade. Drink by 2030.

The classic Barossa fruit profile and lines are here but with a bit more space and mid-weighted verve. Which was exactly the challenge set by a friend of Dean Hewitson and he's nailed the brief. Black and blue fruits, abundant spice, just the right amount of crunch to the fruit, chewy tannin grip and an energetic vibe. It all makes for great drinking. Drink by 2032.

Dave Brookes – James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionThis has intentionally been made to ensure it drinks well when young, as well as into the future. That it is brilliant value is simply a bonus. A combination of whole berries and those crushed, with several weeks on skins before sixteen months maturation in older French oak barriques. Inky black, the nose exhibits notes of dark chocolate, mocha, roast meats, black cherries and leather. A savoury style with fine balance, there is good intensity here which runs the full journey plus silky tannins and impressive length. The palate sees notes of warm earth and spicy sausages emerge with saturated flavours throughout. Like this a lot and can certainly be enjoyed now, but will also age for a decade at least. From the Moreton Bay block in the Upper Tintara Vineyard in the Blewitt Springs sub-region, this is the fourth release of this wine. It was fermented in the old slate fermenters, which were built back in 1863 (they fell out of use in 1927, but Andrew Hardy restored one in 2018). This was from the winery used by Andrew’s great-great-grandfather. The fruit was hand bucketed into the fermenter, regularly hand-plunged, then bucketed back out before pressing into barrel, 20 months in French oak. Just 4,900 bottles made of this superb Shiraz. Dark maroon. The nose is all chocolate, cassis, cigar box, tobacco leaves and blackberries. There is good complexity here, and knife-edge balance while exhibiting such richness and a supple texture, seamless and utterly gorgeous before an extremely long finish. Everything is in balance to ensure a very long future, at least twenty years, but this is so good now, so hard to imagine much will be left by then. Drink 2023-2053.

There is more depth of flavour in the single-vineyard village Mercury Clos de la Maladière, with forward pomegranate and raspberry fruit aromas with a floral edge. James SucklingThe 2021 Clos Apalta comprises 75% Carménère, with the remainder filled out by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, sourced from the eponymous Apalta Vineyard. It was aged for 24 months in oak barrels, two-thirds of which were new. This dark purple wine reveals nuanced aromas of graphite, herbs, dried plums and blackberry marmalade, complemented by mint, boldo and garrigue-like notes over a green bell pepper layer. Plush and ample on the palate, it is lifted by a mild refreshing quality that adds a rare nimbleness to its flow. This long-lasting red is a serious wine, less influenced by Michel Rolland's style than in other years, as the fresh vintage imparted a lighter, less ripe and more expressive character. Clos Apalta is one of those rare Chilean wines that reliably showcases the characteristics of each vintage while maintaining a consistent house style. That steadiness is a boon for consumers, as it allows them to appreciate the impact of different vintages, which is a significant part of the allure of high-quality wines. Drink: 2028 - 2040.

2021 Cheval des AndesMendoza, ARGENTINA$199. 00Bottle$2388.00 DozenCellar: Drink now - 10 Years (2024-2034)ABV: 14%Closure: CorkCheval des Andes is the brainchild of Pierre Lurton from Cheval Blanc with the dream to follow the original Malbec vines from Bordeaux to Argentina. Malbec was brought to Argentina in the mid-19th century, and having avoided the phylloxera epidemic that swept through Europe, the ungrafted vines here represent a unique opportunity to express Malbec in a way not possible with the grafted vines found elsewhere. With this aim, Chateau Cheval Blanc started a joint venture with Terrazas de Los Andes in 1999 and Cheval des Andes was born. Since then, a predominantly Malbec, Bordeaux-style blend has become the signature of Cheval des Andes. The 2021 vintage is a blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot.
Dense midnight black heart with a dark red black tinged hue. Alluring scents of blackcurrant, red liquorice, blueberry and violet captivates the olfactory senses. Lending further complexity are notions of earth, subtle tobacco, vanillin cedar, fresh herbs and spice. Delightfully refined in its feel, a gorgeous wave of red to black currant, blueberry, plum and red liquorice fruits are layered across the mid weighted palate. Showing beautiful polish and harmony it has fine grained tannins which contribute substantial structure. Dried herb, vanillin cedar, earth and spice elements lie beneath. Superb power with a long fruit loaded finish that shows a cool toned freshness and great finesse.

The finest vintage of this wine I've tasted, the 2021 Cheval Des Andes is based on 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Malbec, and the balance Petit Verdot. It has a decidedly Bordeaux-like nose of ripe currants, leafy tobacco, cedarwood, and a kiss of flowers, with perfectly integrated background oak. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a layered, seamless mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. The palate is deliciously supple and impressively layered, with a harmonious, long and ever-expanding finish that highlights extreme delicacy. Matthew Luczy – Robert Parker’s The Wine AdvocateLight and elegant, the 2021 Cheval des Andes is 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot. As it breathes, it begins to reveal notes of fresh cherry and plum, with a hint of menthol, maraschino cherries and a touch of pepper. It opens further with aromas of sandalwood and oak that complete the framework. This is a somewhat leaner, more ethereal Cheval than other years, but it has a higher level of precision. James SucklingColore is the product of old vines in the Chianti Classico hills, in Lamole and Olmo. ‘Colore is my dream from the beginning of working with old vineyards...the vineyard in Lamole is beautiful, it's THE vineyard in Chianti Classico,’ says Bibi Graetz. 2022 was a hot year and so Bibi decided to only use fruit from his north-facing vineyards. ‘The hot year gives me this material, even if it is up in the mountains, north-facing; the fruit has this kick.’ Precisely sculpted and very intense, Colore 2022 is both pillowy and bright. Dark berries, spice and blood orange are gathered up by a lingering, zesty finish. It's more closed than Testamatta at the moment, but should reveal more of its beauty in time. Drink: 2025-2045.

James Button - DecanterThe Bibi Graetz 2022 Colore sources its fruit from only two sites in this vintage: from 60-year-old vines in the Olmo vineyard (with 400-meter-plus elevations) and 88-year-old vines in Lamole (Chianti Classico). The vines are mostly south-facing, but the elevations are key. Meanwhile, Testamatta comes from mostly cool, north-facing sites. These results show lots of vertical heft and sharp tones with bright fruit, mineral graphite and blue flower. Bibi seeks transparency in his wines, and although the 2022 vintage delivers heavier fruit aromas overall, the wine does offer a pretty textural lightness. Drink: 2024 - 2040.

The production of both Testamatta and Colore was cut by two-thirds in 2022, partly because Bibi Graetz didn't want to use his south-facing vineyards in such a hot year. ‘I think there is more power, more energy,’ he says. Certainly, Testamatta is singing, and has closed the gap to Colore in 2022. It displays dusty, earthy notes, creamy dark cherry, green olive and spice on a vertical frame with stark salinity. It's precise and energetic, poised and balletic, with a beautiful vibrancy of tangy raspberry, cherry, wild herbs and a touch of plum. Drink: 2024-2042.

James Button - DecanterThe purity of fruit is so impressive, with al dente fruit character of sliced cherries, cranberries and citrus fruit that’s wonderfully melted together. It’s medium- to full-bodied and grows on the palate, with firm and layered tannins and a long, intense finish. This needs three to four years to refine but is already so enticing. Great beauty. Already irresistible, but best after 2027.

James SucklingMade with fruit from all north-facing vineyard sites (mostly in Olmo with a little bit from Lamole), the Bibi Graetz 2022 Testamatta is engineered to showcase the power of Sangiovese. Indeed, many parcels were recently removed from the blend in order to focus on fruit concentration and elegance. This was a hot growing season, but Bibi says that 2021 was also very warm (with more violent heat spikes during the summer). He lost a small percentage (about 7%) of fruit in 2022 and claims to have had an abundance of fruit in the challenging 2023 vintage. This wine is packed with dense berry fruit, blueberry, spice and soft earth. Bright acidic freshness adds backbone to Sangiovese. Drink: 2024 - 2040.

Based on 65% Welschriesling and 35% Chardonnay, the golden-yellow 2021 Trockenbeerenauslese No 3 Grande Cuvée Nouvelle Vague opens with a concentrated and savory nose of candied pineapples and lemons along with notes of brown sugar and fine oak. Round and generous on the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and refined, elegant and stimulating, saline and finely buoyant TBA with concentrated fruit, fine tannins and a long, caramelly and saline, tight and intense finish. 10% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2024. Drink 2025 - 2070.

Stephan Reinhardt – Wine Advocate (Jun 2024)Very complex nose of tropical fruit coulis, vanilla, candied ginger and toffee apples. Serious concentration and density, but also a vibrancy that wines of this category seldom have. Jane Ansen - Inside Bordeaux - The Singleton of Dufftown Malt Master's Selection Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND$74. 99Bottle$899.88 DozenABV: 40%
The Malt Master's Selection was created by Singleton's Master of Malts, Craig Wilson who hand-selected and blended the whisky before it was matured in European and American oak with three variants; refill, ex-sherry (PX and oloroso) and ex-bourbon. Priced for quaffing, don't have high expectations when it comes to complexity but it'll do the job when guests unexpectedly drop in! The flask-shaped bottle and blue flint colour glass draws its inspiration from the 19th century, when flask-shaped bottles were customary for easier transportation and fewer breakages, particularly when travelling on horseback. 40% Alc./Vol.
Notes from the producers... Sweet fruity notes of pear, honey and sweet spice with a tingling, pleasurable warmth.

Dufftown Distillery was founded on Speyside in 1896, and still draws its pure water from the same spring. Morrison Distillers Mac-Talla Oloroso Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Islay, SCOTLAND$189. 99Bottle$2279.88 DozenABV: 54.8%"... for a NAS this whisky this is a banger." - whiskybase.com
From one of Scotland's oldest whisky families, previous owners of Bowmore, Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch - the Morrison Family. Mac-Talla means 'Echo' in Scottish Gaelic and reflects the Morrison family connection to the island of Islay. For the 2024 Limited Edition Mac-Talla release, the team at Morrison have created a small-batch bottling from ten ex-Oloroso sherry butts (seven 1st fill, three 2nd fill). The casks were sourced from renowned Bodega Jose y Miguel Martin in Jerez. All were European oak. The natural-strength peated malt spent seven years mingling with the rich fruity sherry notes remaining in the barrel to create another Mac-Talla flavour sensation: Peat is upfront on the nose followed by an oceanic spritz on the palate where there's equal sherry and smoke at play. Deliciously textural flavours of oatmeal biscuits, salted caramel and that elusive distillery character described as dried mango come through (word on the street is this is Bowmore). Long, strong and buzzing, like most of the Mac Talla range. Jaded Islay fans will find something different to tantalise their taste buds here. 54.8% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... Bowmore, not Bowmore it doesn't matter. This whisky delivers. I think for a NAS this whisky this is a banger. Yeah, the price is a bit high but it's definitely worth it. It has multiple layers, it's very complex, it's smoky and sweet at the same time. Perfetion among smoky whiskies? Who knows. What I know is that it will join the "Best whiskies I've had in 2024" category for sure. I am rating this 91 / 100. Buy it, open it, drink it, enjoy it then buy it again...Dense smoke and earthy peat. Ash, ash and ash. Salty and peppery. Mint. The smoke vanishes and lets the sweet, fruity part take over. Vanilla with toffee and soft oak. Leather. Orchard fruits, then dried fruits. Figs, raisins, oranges and pineapple. After a while the smoke comes back and engulfs your mouth once again. Multi-layered, deep, complex. Explosion of flavours. For a probably young whisky (6-7-8 yo) this is very very good. And I would even say that this whisky can get into a ring with much much older whiskies from Islay. - whiskybase.com
Notes from the bottlers... Warm spice, rich dark fruits & a big dollop of peat. Brown sugar and baking spices reminiscent of Christmas with a peat fire burning in the background.

A background hint of wood sets off aromas that include the essence of spiced pear, acacia blossom and an array of spice elements. This possesses the most complex, if most restrained, nose in the range with its aromas of essence of pear, white peach, exotic Asian tea and crushed fennel. There is a positively gorgeous texture to the medium weight plus flavors that are exceptionally rich thanks to the abundance of dry extract that also serves to buffer the firm acid spine shaping the hugely long finale. For the moment this is actually not quite as powerful and robust as the Bâtard, though a classic Montrachet often adds size and weight with age. Either way, this should prove to be outstanding in time. Drink through 2034+.

From the Lusatia Park vineyard planted at Woori Yallock in 1985 and purchased by the De Bortoli family in 2016. The fruit for this wine is from the A Block. Whole-bunch pressed, this went through a natural ferment in older French casks and it was left to rest until November, when it was gravity racked to vats for a further 3 months before bottling. A very bright and fresh green gold. Aromas of ruby grapefruit, lemon butter on charred toast, with some lightly grilled cashews. Fleshy on entry, the palate is well balanced with good weight. It is warmer and riper, a textbook example of ripe Mencía fruit, from an earlier-ripening zone with juicy wines. As with the rest of the 2022s, the wine is super expressive, aromatic and a little riper and more immediate than the tighter 2023s. It has a floral and perfumed nose and is quite fruit-driven, juicy and tasty, with fine tannins already getting polished. 3,300 bottles were filled in November 2023. Drink 2024-2031.

Finally Camino Novo is a single vineyard perched on the edge of the River Sil, where the vines are 80 years old and always produce some of the most profound Mencia in the area.

The intoxicating 2022 Lousas Parcela Seoane comes from a specific plot in the village of Doade, old vines planted in the 1930 on gneiss and quartz. It has the expressive nose of the zone—serious and mineral—but it's perfumed too. It has the forward and extroverted character of 2022 and is a little riper and rounder, with a note of blood orange and the faint volatility that lifts up the nose. There's a lot of energy here. 2,000 bottles were filled in November 2023. Drink 2024-2034.

Jacques Lassaigne La Colline Inspiree Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut ChampagneChampagne, FRANCE$260. 00Bottle$3120.00 DozenABV: 12%Closure: CorkEmmanuel Lassaigne is one of Champagne's most thoughtful and exciting grower producers, working with the chalky south and southeast-facing sloped vineyards of Montgueux in the Aube department. Lassaigne's extraordinary Champagnes are pushing the qualitative boundaries not just of the Aube but of the entire region. Farming in his vineyards is organic with cultivated soils and harvesting at full maturity. In the cellar, the wines ferment in wood and stainless steel, and they're disgorged by hand without dosage. The style is powerful and vinous but also racy and electric.
La Colline Inspirée is 100% Chardonnay raised in oak, and displays a vinous and lush expression bound to please lovers of quality aged white Burgundy.
Please note: Disgorgement dates can vary. Please contact the store if you would like to check which disgorgement is currently available.

A blend of the 2013 and 2012 vintages that was disgorged in March, the NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs La Colline Inspiré opens in the glass with aromas of almond paste, citrus oil, crisp green apple and pastry cream, gently framed by its élevage in barrel. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, vinous and concentrated, with an immensely incisive spine of ripe but bracing acidity, a fine mousse and a long, electric and searingly saline finish. This bottling is produced from several parcels in Montgueux, and all the vins clairs are now fermented and matured in barrel. Drink 2020-2035.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Aug 31, 2019)There are lovely, up front, crazy coconut and tropical fruit aromas, along with a bit of spice and tangy barrel-aged oxidative notes. The texture is one of silky perfection. The freshness, the density of the fruit, and the complexity of the ageing create terrific dynamic tension on the palate. This is blended from base wines from 2018 (12 months in barrel on the lees), 2017 (24 months), 2016 (36 months), and 2015 (48 months), and aged on the lees before disgorging in January of 2022 – a superb wine. Drink 2022-2040.
