2022 She-Oak Hill Estate Heathcote ShirazHeathcote, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$29. 99Bottle$359.88 DozenCellar: 6 - 8 Years (2031-2033)ABV: 14.8%Closure: StelvinEstablished in 1975, this little known estate is one Heathcote’s oldest and along with Jasper Hill and Mt Ida was one of the pioneering vineyards of the region. Further plantings were made in 1996, the dry grown vines from both vineyards now well established with deep roots in the mineral rich Cambrian soil. Winemaking is undertaken by the talented Mark Hunter from Sanguine Estate and maturation takes place in French oak barriques for a period of 18 months.
Dense, powerful Heathcote Shiraz with lashings of black fruit framed by muscular tannins.
Opens with spectacular colour density featuring a super saturated pitch black heart along with an equally deep dark red black hue. Heady aromas of ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate fill the nostrils with spicy vanillin cedar, fennel and peppered earth notes also chiming in. Rich, concentrated and dense the full bodied palate is engulfed with succulent blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits which are framed by a muscular tannin structure. Relatively stern yet opulent in it’s feel, earth, spicy vanillin cedar, subtle dark chocolate and blackpepper elements lend further nuance. Deep and powerful it finishes long and juicy yet robust.
Cellar 6-8 years.

Likely to be of a vintage that contains a portion of the Stitzel-Weller stocks, the dates certainly line up to have been distilled before the closure of the Shively, Louisville site in 1992. A rare opportunity indeed. The laser code on this bottle is: K3390808:35, indicating K - The bottling line, 339 - 339th day of the year, 08 - 2008, 08:35 - 8.35 am.Other reviews... The corn oils kiss and caress, the tannins barge and batter in a good cop / bad cop delivery... one of the holy grails of bourbon is to produce a consistently a 23-25 year old bourbon which is still sweet and not tannin dominated: no easy task. [this is] unquestionably drier... there are still sugars enough to give some fabulous moments on the palate. The tannins do though, still have the biggest say. But remember, this whiskey has matured for a very long time. 47.8% Alc./Vol. 95 points - Jim Murrays Whisky Bible 2020
...Nose: Deep, powerful and concentrated. This has moved into almost rancio territory: eucalypt/laurel, spice, burnt orange peel, apple, pear, biscuity wood. Palate: Soft and surprisingly delicate given the age. A charred note adds to the complexity. Gentle and elegant: cigar box, prune, molasses, soot. Finish: Long. In fact it’s very, very long and complex. Comment: A subtle sipper to be taken neat and definitely without ice! 90 points - David Broom, www.whiskymag.com
- 2015 Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Whiskey (700ml) - Batch B515Kentucky, UNITED STATES$3499. 00Bottle$41988.00 DozenABV: 69.9%
Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such may have some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product pictured.
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof – Batch B515 (2015) is one of the highest-proof releases in Heaven Hill’s bold and uncompromising Barrel Proof series, clocking in at a fiery 69.9% ABV (139.8 proof). Released as the second batch of 2015, this expression was among the earliest in the range to omit the 12-year age statement on the label — a significant shift that marked a new era for the series. Unlike Elijah Craig Small Batch, which is proofed down for consistency, each Barrel Proof batch is released uncut and non-chill-filtered, showcasing unique variations in strength and flavour.
- 2015 Michter's Single Barrel 20 Year Old Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey (700ml)Kentucky, UNITED STATES$19999. 00Bottle$239988.00 DozenABV: 57.1%
Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such may have some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product pictured.
Debuting in 2012 but not released every year, Michter's 20 year old is the second oldest age statement from the legendary distillery that has seen a meteoric rise in collectibility. Michter's state "While we regularly sample all our Michter's barrels to see how our whiskey is aging, we pay even extra special attention to our barrels once they are over 17 years old. At Michter's we consider 17 to 20 years the "Fork In The Road Point" when certain barrels of whiskey can achieve an extraordinary level of quality. It is these particular barrels that our Master Distiller Dan McKee personally selects for our very limited bottling of Michter's 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon."Although the exact provenance of these early Michter's releases remains undisclosed, bourbonculture.com comments, "2012 was a busy year for Michter’s. Work was in progress for both their Shively distillery, Fort Nelson location and the continual release of both highly aged whiskies from the barrels they sourced at Willett to the new whiskies that expanded their lineup.
That’s why it was shocking to see a 20 year old bourbon being released. M20 would go on to be released every year (with the exception of 2017) in very limited amounts of bottles.
2012’s bottling was labelled “Single Barrel” but was eventually changed to reflect it was a “small batch” in 2016 and beyond. It is widely speculated that the first single barrel of M20 contained Stitzel Weller inside. It may never be known how many more releases contained the holy grail of bourbon in it, but M20 continues to draw a large fan base each year."
An interesting speculation that leads one to wonder what this 2015 release contains.
The investment upside on these releases seems to have no limits at present. This is bottle 73 of 113 released from barrel L15I739, bottled at 57.1% Alc./Vol. -

2021 Albino Rocca Barbaresco RonchiPiedmont, ITALY$150. 00Bottle$1800.00 DozenABV: 14.5%Closure: CorkOther Reviews....
The Albino Rocca 2021 Barbaresco Ronchi shows a dusty mineral quality that adds to the elegance of the bouquet. Beyond that, you get nicely ripened Nebbiolo fruit with wild cherry and redcurrant. It fleshes out over the palate with tart flavors and chalky tannins. Production is 9,000 bottles. Drink 2026-2040.

Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2021 Barbaresco Ronchi comes across as a bit youthfully austere relative to some of the other wines in the range. Chalk, mint, white pepper, scorched earth and strong mineral notes infuse the Ronchi with tremendous power to match its sinewy, driving personality. This vivid, sculpted Barbaresco is hugely promising. Drink 2026-2036.

2019 Domaine Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Les PoyeuxSaumur, Loire Valley, FRANCE$650. 00Bottle$7800.00 DozenABV: 13%Closure: CorkOther Reviews....
A delicately fragrant expression of Cabernet Franc. There's a charming, silky start to the 2019 Les Poyeux , sitting pretty in the mouth. There's definite ripeness of fruit with a fondant-like softness on the mid-palate providing flesh, yet this wine remains light on its feet, focused and fresh. Aromatically lifted with a touch of balsamic, red cherry, blackberry, spice and black olive. The tannins have a tight pinch on the finish, perhaps caused by the year's drought or it may need more time...We'll see. Drink 2026-2040.

Furneaux Distillery Untamed Gin (700ml)Tasmania, AUSTRALIA$84. 99Bottle$1019.88 DozenABV: 42%Ingredients include flowering kunzea, native rosemary, wild fennel and traditional gin botanicals. Creamy nose feel, suggests elderflower, citrus oils and juniper over early-root-like notes, lifted by white pepper and cardamom. Rounded, soft texture; impressive body with medium-dry flavours laced with pepper, citrus and herbal character. Finish sees a subtle anise freshness alongside juniper. Ends spicy, cleansing, minerally and wonderfully dry. Offers something different in a crowded category while remaining distinctively ‘ginny’ - which is no mean feat. 42% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... An excellent, well-considered use of botanicals, this gin presents cohesion between the aroma and palate. The somewhat restrained ABV is well-integrated and pleasant, allowing each flavour's nuance to be showcased and come through. This gin has two schools of flavour: the coastal, summer sea breeze quality and a warmer baked citrus quality. Both work in tandem to build an interesting, engaging and versatile spirit. These elements are not always harmonious. However, the heavier use of anise forward botanicals is a guiding flavour to effortlessly envelope and create a thoughtful & polished spirit. 94 points - Jess Clayfield, winecompanion.com.au

Furneaux Distillery Flinders Island Peated Single Malt Australian Whisky (700ml)Tasmania, AUSTRALIA$220. 00Bottle$2640.00 DozenABV: 48.2%The beefiest whisky in the Furneaux line up opens with a nice co-mingling of sherry and malt on the nose. The peat is beautifully handled, of the cured meats and wood-smoke variety, executing a full-bodied dram that rolls about the mouth, barely suggesting the ABV; Sleek and sooty to finish, all so well controlled with the oily peat, light peppers and sweet barley extending the profile. Effortless and polished. Ardmore meets Caol Ila meets a new Tassie star. You can’t help but be impressed. 48.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... Made with Tasmanian barley smoked post-malting with Flinders Island peat, the nose on this whisky is fascinating - almost like smoked chocolate - and like nothing I've ever smelled in a whisky before. Truly unique in a way that's rare in the world of whisky. Grassy and earthy aromas like freshly cut green capsicum are almost reminiscent of mezcal but without the underripe or volatile notes of a whisky bottled too young. There's enough oak and smoke here to round it out, along with lovely notes of maple syrup sweetness and orange zest, and the integration of oak and spirit is impressive. It's rare to have a smokey whisky that still smells so fresh, so that's ... refreshing. Powerful alcohol on the front palate dissipates quickly to a lovely roasted and candied macadamia nuttiness, and again the integration is impressive with a surprisingly easy, sweet finish. It could use more oiliness and texture to match the alcohol - it isn't a drink for those afraid of a little heat - but on the other hand, it's very drinkable for a whisky with so much power. Incredibly impressive for such a young distillery. Are there peated Scotch whiskies on the market that are better priced for similar quality? Yes. But this is a truly unique whisky made in a truly unique place without the backing of multinational corporations, and that's worth paying for. 96 points - Fred Siggins, winecompanion.com.au

Furneaux Distillery Sawyers Bay Single Malt Australian Whisky (700ml)Tasmania, AUSTRALIA$199. 99Bottle$2399.88 DozenABV: 46.6%Probably intended as an after-dinner dram: Plump, but not confected, the port influence brings body to the bouquet with hints of dried cranberry; Same on the palate, the wine filling out the malt with a layer of richness. Poise is carefully considered - no excessive sugars here, just a lovely soft, fruity-malt vibe with a flurry of spices and fine tannins carrying the aftertaste - and despite the high ABV, this is (arguably) the most accessible of the current Furneaux lineup. 49.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... This well-balanced single malt displays a lovely soft nose of fudgy, Christmas pudding, Aussie Apera and a delicacy that belies its youth. Maybe it's wishful imagination, but there's a note of coastal grass and rain on rocks that speaks to the island home, along with powerful notes of ripe fruits, melon and red apple in particular, a hallmark of good Aussie single malt in the same way it's a hallmark of good Aussie pale ale. This whisky has a lot in common with other Tassie whiskies, so it is very recognisable for its region, but with no rough edges hiding under the oak - an unfortunately common problem on the Apple Isle - which shows a deft hand in the stillhouse and a careful nose in the blending room. The palate is light and approachable, with a fresh apple and mild tannin on the finish, giving this whisky the gravitas that the lovely nose deserves. While lacking the complexity or texture to be truly exceptional, it's a prime example of what makes Aussie whisky great and something I'd be proud to show off to anyone in the world. At $200 a pop, it's not cheap, but given the genuine craft approach taken here, the price is justified. If this is the quality they're producing this early in the game, there are very good things ahead for Furneaux. 94 points - Fred Siggins, winecompanion.com.au
- Renais Gin (700ml)UNITED KINGDOM$109. 99Bottle$1319.88 DozenABV: 40%
Short for 'Renaissance', Renais is the brainchild of Emma Watson, of Harry Potter fame, together with her brother Alex who works in the drinks industry. It begins with the grape skins left after pressing from their father's vineyard in Chablis. These, along with lees from the wine are distilled to produce a base spirit which is blended with "Kimmeridgian stone distillate", produced from an infusion of rocks from northern Burgundy. Add the necessary botanicals and you have a fresh, dry, juniper-led style. Tasters have also noted a distinctive minerality, typical of the Chablis region's wines. 40% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Renais is a luxury gin brand in the UK that’s so fancy they released a limited edition bottle featuring artwork from Emma Watson. On a recent trip to London the brand was kind enough to send me a sample of the gin — in the boring old normal person bottle, mind you — which I dutifully carted back to the U.S. for review. As far as I can tell it isn’t available on our shores. Renais is made as an homage to Burgundy in France, distilled from salvaged Grand Cru grape skins collected after being pressed to make wine. Botanicals include (but may not be limited to) juniper, grains of paradise, linden flowers, and acacia honey. Golden yellow in color, the gin has the appearance of a cocktail that’s ready to drink, but the nose is classic London dry — heavy, biting juniper with a sultry angelica earthiness underneath. It’s very peppery with mild notes of anise and less distinct florals, largely dried, to wind things up. On the palate, the gin is a powerhouse. Fans of modern, more gossamer gins will laugh in the face of Renais. Powerful notes of juniper, rosemary, and thyme give the gin an immediate punch of green herbs, as piney as a walk amongst the evergreens can be. The drinker is in for some surprises, however, as a brisk citrus quality soon becomes clear, followed by a growing, insistent sweetness. The acacia honey in the mix is no joke, providing a soothing backbone against which the aggressive herbal notes can find some rest. The finish is lightly sweet and tinged with florals again, making for a spirit that is delightful on its own but also a natural companion with tonic. - drinkhacker.com

Note: Product has come from a private collection and as such has some minor scuffing/scratches/handling marks. Actual product shown.
'Standing Stone', or ‘Camas an Staca’ in Gaelic, takes its name from the largest of Jura’s eight standing stones. Known as ‘The Bay of the Protecting Rocks’, this imposing 12 foot obelisk is reputedly all that remains of a stone circle laid some 3,000 years ago by the earliest Diurachs to appease the spirits. The iconic Jura bottle is presented in a beautiful display case that opens its doors to reveal the story of the whisky. Meticulously detailed, the bottle is in-filled with copper wax with a matching metal plaque. 44% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... The latest addition to the Jura range has been matured in American white oak casks before spending three years in Gonzalez Byass oloroso sherry butts. The mellow nose is lightly oily, with figs, sherry, orange, and a savory note. Vanilla emerges, along with malt, and finally a hint of cinnamon and parma violets. Soft and supple on the palate, with more orange, plus cocoa, sultanas, and dates. The finish is lengthy and features dark chocolate, raisins, aniseed, and subtle spices. 89 points - whiskyadvocate.com
This baby was finished in Oloroso sherry casks from Gonzalez Byass'. The funny name means standing stone. Colour: apricoty, almost pink. Nose: starts on frankly vinous notes, its not that it’s unpleasant, it’s just a little excessive. The good news is that all that would just go away after a few seconds, leaving more room for a complex range of citrus fruits, both dried and fresh. Oranges are very obvious, then rather citrons. Touches of baklavas, orange blossom, pomegranates, then more cigars, raisins, chocolate and just a little leather as well as a few floral notes, mainly peonies. All that is rather smooth and easy-going, although more mineral notes do rise after a few minutes. Graphite oil? Mouth: excellent attack, quite old style, with a fruitiness that reminds me of both old Bowmores and Benriach, although this one is soon to become a little drier and slightly chalky. Also a little chlorophyll and this leather from the sherry. Walnuts. Touches of salt. Finish: medium long, even drier now, the fruits have almost vanished and it all gets quite tea-ish and cigary. Cinnamon and nutmeg in the aftertaste as well as a little smoke. Fino sherry or vin jaune. Comments: very high quality but I feel the dry sherry is sometimes overwhelming ‘in the background’, with its, well, dryness. Otherwise it would have been 90+ material. 87 points - whiskyfun.com -

Compass Box The Peat Monster Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)SCOTLAND$144. 99Bottle$1739.88 DozenABV: 46%Compass Box is a specialist company started in 2000 devoted to making some of Scotland's most unique whiskies through the art of blending. Similar to fine wine negociants, they choose individual casks from different distilleries that offer complementary sets of flavours. They then carefully blend these casks in small batches to make proprietary malt whiskies, grain whiskies, and malt & grain blends from distilleries across Scotland. Compass Box is also renowned for having (arguably) the industry’s highest quality standards for oak cask selection. When one considers that oak is responsible for up to 70% of the flavour of a mature whisky, one understands their mania. Only 100% American oak is used (predominantly first-fill casks). The colour of all the Compass Box whiskies is the natural colour of the whiskies from the casks. No caramel is added. The whiskies are also not chill filtered (a cosmetic process which strips flavour and texture from the whisky). As founder, John Glaser says, “Hazy whisky is a good sign that the whisky maker wants you to taste everything the whisky has to offer.” These are indeed alluring whiskies for the free-thinking enthusiast.
Peat Monster, like all vatted malts, is made by marrying 100% single malt whiskies from different distilleries, including lead distilleries like Ardmore, Caol ila and Laphroaig (they might change over time). Components are aged between 10-15 years, however. we're informed that the recipe has evolved to include older and more elegant Islay malts since 2019. This is a fantastic late-night whisky that also works beautifully in a classic Scotch whisky Highball.
Other reviews... The formula for this whisky has changed slightly since its inception -- and I think for the better. They've added some Laphroaig into the mix of Caol Ila and Ardmore. This whisky demonstrates the layered complexity that can be achieved by marrying whisky from different distilleries and different regions. I particularly enjoy the rich maltiness and oily texture that provide firm bedding and flavor contrast to the classic Islay notes: tar, boat docks, brine, smoked olive, seaweed, and kiln ash. More subtle cracked peppercorn, mustard seed, and citrus fruit add complexity. Long, warming finish. Amazing how a small change in composition can significantly benefit the overall flavor profile of a whisky. 94 points - whiskyadvocate.com
Pale golden color. Sweet clover honey, heather, and peat aromas. A soft, yet rich, entry leads to a sweetish medium-full body with caramel, orange peel, raw honey, toast, vibrant peat and pepper flavors. Finishes with a honeycomb, iodine, and toasty grain fade. Very drinkable, exquisitely balanced, and approachable with vibrant, but (despite the name) not dominant peatiness. 46% Alc./Vol.

Furneaux Distillery Smoky Wedding Peated Single Malt Australian Whisky (700ml)Tasmania, AUSTRALIA$220. 00Bottle$2640.00 DozenABV: 46.5%Just a few degrees lower in alcohol makes this feel considerably lighter compared to the Peated Double Oak; Easy-going without lacking depth, here Furneaux’s distillate is a little closer to centre stage, the malt glazed with a lovely oily texture from the peat. Some maritime character adds interest, with active x-Bourbon wood in support. Match it against any 12 year old Scotch. Remarkably good at such a young age. 46.5% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.
Notes from the producers... A combination of Flinders Island coastal peated malt and Scottish peated malt makes up the mash bill in this inimitable whisky. Matured in ex Heaven Hill and Makers Mark Bourbon casks. Salty caramel and cacao on the nose with soft citrus. Peat and sweetness pops on the front palate like a smoky candy pearl. Rich and balanced with great texture, the Scottish peat influence bring a chewy, iodine sweetness, while our Flinders peat lengthens the finish with a soft earthy aromatic smoke.

Daylesford Spirit Miner's Navy Strength Australian Gin (700ml)Victoria, AUSTRALIA$97. 99Bottle$1175.88 DozenABV: 58%The nose shows early evidence of drier styled juniper and an appealing earthy/stony mineral quality accompanied by rosemary and white pepper heat; later inhalations are herbal-fresh, deepening and intensifying with citrus oils and crushed pine buds. Entry is creamy, deceptively soft; mid-palate flavours build with an oily texture and a slow crescendo that sees the earthy-root elements take flight alongside bursts of pepper, fresh grapefruit, orange zest and sustained juniper. Fades cleansing, long, earthy and complex. 58% Alc./vol.
Notes from the producers... A unique representation of the flavours that the Daylesford region provides - a vibrant gin, opening with a gentle herbal bouquet and introducing grassy-leafy spiciness upfront. Infused with marmalade, citrus, and juniper notes, the palate unfolds with a harmonious blend of sweet and savoury spices, with citrus essence lingering gracefully through the finish.

Dry and chiselled, it finishes searingly tense and zesty.

Fresh and tightly wound, with aromas of lime zest, green apples, guavas, talc, gun smoke and white flowers. The palate is full of drive and precision, showing bright acidity with lemon pith, crushed stones and a hint of jasmine. Linear and focused, with a long, mineral-edged finish. Drink or hold. Three varieties that go together so well, especially if the result is this juicy and appealing drink. Lots of enticing aromatics from musk, sarsaparilla and red berries. The mid-weighted palate follows suit with more woodsy spices, licorice and a flood of sweet fruit. Very satisfying and a brilliant price, too. Drink by 2030.

2024 Chateau Margaux Pre-Arrival OfferMargaux, Bordeaux, FRANCE$899. 00Bottle$10788.00 DozenClosure: CorkChateau Margaux has an impressive history of producing the best wines of Bordeaux, with winemaking on the property dating back to the 12th century. In the 1700’s Thomas Jefferson included Margaux in his list of the greatest four wines of Bordeaux, and this was later vindicated when Chateau Margaux was awarded First Growth status in the 1855 Classification. Traditional in style, Chateau Margaux is a wine of finesse and purity, but also one with richness and aromatic complexity, with an enviable history of cellaring potential. Vineyards are planted to 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, while the final blend normally uses around 85% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Other Reviews....
The 2024 Château Margaux has turned out beautifully, unfurling in the glass with notes of cassis, violets, cigar box and iris. Medium to full-bodied, deep and vibrant, with excellent density and concentration for the vintage, it's lively and layered, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. This is a serious, youthfully tightly wound blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc that attained 12.8% alcohol.
93-95 points
William Kelley - Wine AdvocateRepresenting 46% of the total crop (a little higher than recent years due to higher yields in the best Cabernet blocks), the 2024 Château Margaux contains slightly less Merlot (5%). It has a sophisticated bouquet in the context of the growing season, with black fruit, pressed violet and hints of pencil box that almost lend a Pauillac-like allure. Very fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and modest depth. This is clearly a leaner Château Margaux compared to, say, the 2020 or 2022, but it is razor-sharp with superb tension and mineralité. Unapologetically classic in style with modest length, this noble First Growth will benefit from four to five years in bottle. Drink 2030-2055.
94-96 points
Neal Martin - VinousThe 2024 Château Margaux is quite soft and delicate. It shows fine delineation in its aromatics and on the palate, but it's distinctly on the lighter side, even for Château Margaux. The mid-palate and finish are a touch compact, while there is a bit of edginess in the tannins that needs time to resolve. Bright acids and the lack of fruit pliancy expose the tannins at this stage. Élevage will be everything. Château Margaux is a bit of a question mark. Drink 2034-2054.
93-95 points
Antonio Galloni - VinousReally impressive depth, concentration and perfume this year, with fine tannins. Lots of violets, red flowers, black cherries and currants. Full-bodied and seriously structured, with impeccable freshness and a very long finish. Dense and powerful for the vintage, with tension, vibrations, good concentration and a tannin framework. 93% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot, 1% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot.
97-98 points
Zekun Shuai - JamesSuckling.comBased on 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the 2024 Château Margaux is similarly deep purple-hued, with a more inward, closed, yet impressive style. Crème de cassis, graphite, spring flowers, and subtle spicy nuances all define the aromatics. It's medium-bodied with a concentrated, ripe, layered mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and nicely integrated background oak. It's going to need time, but this is unquestionably a beautiful, elegant Margaux. The 2024 is 12.8% alcohol with a pH of 3.62.

Jeb DunnuckA tremendous effort from Margaux in 2024. Fragrant Cabernet notes on the nose, blackcurrant leaf, blackcurrants, cherries, some tobacco touches, dark fruits with aromatic nuances on the nose. Wild flower meadows with ripe cherries and blackcurrants. Glossy and so smooth, incredibly well textured, not demonstrative, this is sleek and like layers of silk on top of each other, a glossy feel and so confident. Blue cherry, cola, crushed blueberries, salty touches, liquorice and dark chocolate - everything balanced. Beautiful, this is just what you expect from Margaux, precision and perfection with a lively acidity and crushed stone chalkiness on the finish. 1% Cabernet Franc completes the blend. 13% press wine. 46% grand vin production. Drink 2032 - 2048.

2021 Isole e Olena CepparelloTuscany, ITALY$250. 00Bottle$3000.00 DozenCellar: 8 - 10 Years (2033-2035)ABV: 15%Closure: StelvinAn exceptionally powerful Sangiovese with energetic red fruit sculptured by chiselled tannins and lively acidity.
In the 1950s, the father of current winemaker Paolo de Marchi purchased the adjoining hamlets of Isole and Olena and their estates in the Tuscan commune of Barberino Val d'Elsa. Paolo entered the business in 1976 and the quality of the estate’s wines improved rapidly after decades of sharecropping. Paolo de Marchi is one of the region's kings of the Sangiovese grape and at a time when Chianti was a blended wine it was, he that stepped out to produce wines that were 100% Sangiovese. Cepparello is the true embodiment of a ‘Super Tuscan’ wine and one of Italy's most iconic wines.
Deep dark red black in colour with a dark red hue. The aromatically gorgeous nose is blessed with a kaleidoscope of red to dark currant, dark cherry, red liquorice and violet scents. Dried herb, subtle tobacco, earth and spice notes lend further nuance. Delicious, energetic red to dark cherry, red currant and red liquorice fruits are sculptured by chiselled tannins and lively acidity. Exceptionally powerful, it has a tense, muscular feel with the back half complexed by notions of dried herbs, tobacco, earth and spice. Finishes fresh and slightly grippy with outstanding length.
Cellar 8-10 years.

Intense and floral wine, full of restrained aromas, such as potpourri, together with vibrant red cherries, licorice, bergamot and lightly balsamic depth. James SucklingOne of Tuscany's flagship wines, the Isole e Olena 2021 Cepparello immediately delivers ripe fruit flavors that are firm, even crunchy, and that bodes well for the future evolution of this classic vintage. The wine is packed with tart fruit flavors followed by balanced acidity. Compared to past vintages that are more extracted and dense, this edition is delightfully bright and transparent. I appreciation the age-worthy direction Cepparello is taking. Drink 2025-2048.

Monica Larner – Robert Parker’s Wine AdvocatePlum, cherry and pomegranate fruit is framed by toasty oak and mineral flavors in this lively and succulent red, which offers plenty of energy, with elements of tar and oak on the persistent finish. The founder, the highly inventive, industrious and resourceful Frank Potts (1815 - 1890), to whom this wine is dedicated, was a 19th century genius, and a pioneer who has been described as being “made of the right stuff and well worthy of the grand old land that gave him birth.” He arrived in Australia as a 21 year old, having set sail from Plymouth England, and landing late in 1836. By the 1860’s, he had planted the original 30 acres of vineyard on the banks of the Bremmer Creek. Potts was highly admired - “One meets with extraordinary characters through life, but I doubt whether his equal could be found. In appearance a stranger would take him to be a poor labourer, with a thin, spare figure and long unkempt hair and invariably wearing his shirt sleeves tucked up. Although a most uncouth-looking person, and yet this man is a perfect genius! There is not a single thing mechanical or otherwise undertaken by him which he does not succeed in...” So remarked Inspector Tolmer, who was later to become Commissioner of Police, South Australia. Frank was one of the first to recognise the benefits of red gum. After building several houses for himself, he made tools and a bullock dray to cut down and haul these massive timbers in order to construct a gigantic twin wine press and several enormous wine vats. He also created the irrigation system that's still in place today. What little spare time he might have had was spent building a piano and various race winning yachts!

If someone said to me, pick a Henschke wine to drink tonight, any wine. Well, one would be a blithering idiot not to opt for Hill of Grace, but I would not be at all unhappy if this was the choice. It is, year after year, always a favourite among some exceptional wines. 100% Shiraz from 70-year-old vines, 68% Eden Valley and 32% Barossa. Maturation was for twenty months in French oak hogsheads, 10% new. From a top vintage, this will surely rank among the very best Tappa Pass that the Henschkes have released – and that is saying something! A vibrant maroon hue, the nose suggests a complete wine, utterly harmonious. There is focus, a seductive and seamless structure, an alluring and beguiling texture, impeccable balance and immense length. At the conclusion, there are silky tannins, though they seem to almost disappear on contact. Notes of cassis emerge on the palate. A wine with real persistence, this has twenty years ahead of it, if needed. Stunning. Drink 2025-2045.

Ken Gargett – WinePilot.comThe brilliant burst of colour is the first indication that this is something special. The nose doesn’t disappoint. Highly perfumed with floral plum and cherry notes and a little light chocolate. Graceful lines on the palate, which is expressive and powerful, though the influence of Eden Valley adds a lightness of touch. Only 10% new French oak and the rest seasoned, but that little oak influence brings a delightful lift to the palate. Outstanding wine.

Tasted over lunch, the Soldera Case Basse 2020 100% Sangiovese shows a softly textured profile with beautifully polymerized tannins that create a taut sounding board for notes of cassis, small berry fruit, violets and crushed stone. Made with spontaneous fermentation in oversized vats and aged carefully in the family cellars in surrounding quiet and darkness, this soulful wine remains true to the spirit of Sangiovese, defined by clarity and finesse. The 2020 vintage has an accessible, open-knit character that suits it well and clearly distinguishes it from the more austere 2019 and the super precise 2021. In this context, 2020 offers a softer, more delicate interlude between the two. Drink 2029-2055.

Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe most vivid crushed cherry gives way to rose pastille, sweet lavender and nuances of clove and exotic spice as the exuberant 2020 Toscana Sangiovese comes to life in the glass. It displays pure class on the palate. It’s silken and soothingly round with a pretty mix of ripe strawberry and blueberry that swirl throughout, as crisp mineral tones and a contrasting tinge of sour citrus add unparalleled depth. Incredibly complex yet juicy and spry, the 2020 leaves crunchy tannins that firm up the impossibly long finish without slowing its momentum. I don’t recall ever tasting a young Soldera that showed this much energy and verve. It’s already so pleasurable yet has the balance to mature beautifully over the coming decades. Drink 2027-2044.

Eric Guido - VinousTasted from a 65-hectoliter cask, the 2020 Sangiovese is plush and fruity at this stage, although it’s starting to reveal its mineral underpinnings, with dark blackberry notes, graphite, and violets. Medium to full-bodied, it offers a velvety texture, with ripe and refined tannins, a good deal of meaty richness through the mid-palate, and a seamless structure. There’s both purity and refinement across each of the samples tasted. The 2020 showed a good deal of completeness already prior to bottling and I expect it will have a good deal of cellaring potential.

2022 Thierry Allemand Cornas Chaillots (C)Cornas, Northern Rhone, FRANCE$620. 00Bottle$7440.00 DozenABV: 13%Closure: CorkOther Reviews....
The 2022 Cornas Les Chaillots from Thierry Allemand was crafted by his son Théo using the same method as his father: 100% whole bunches, two to three days of carbon maceration and punching down instead of pumping over. Evoking a pure, delicate and gourmand bouquet of violet, mulberries and dark berries, it's medium to full-bodied, dense and firm with a crystalline, pure texture and an energetic, tense mid-palate framed by somewhat stringy tannins, typical of whole bunches. Concluding with a long, ethereal and floral finish, this is a superb wine. Drink 2026-2040.

Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateA fine-tuned, silky, refined and well-crafted Cornas from younger (under 40-year-old) vines and whole-cluster vinification. It expresses aromas of damson plums, dark cherries, warm spices and some wild herbs. It's medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Such delicacy to the dense core, with a silky, caressing feel and incredible purity, vitality and transparency. Very long, vibrant finish. Drink or hold.

Stuart Pigott - JamesSuckling.comComing from a mix of terroirs and slightly younger vines (which are not that young) brought up all in used barrels, the 2022 Cornas Chaillot offers up red, blue, and black fruits intermixed with graphite, crushed stone, violets, and pepper. Medium to full-bodied and gorgeously balanced on the palate, it shows a juicy, elegant, vibrant style with ultra-fine tannins, displaying remarkable precision and purity.

2022 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard (R)Cornas, Northern Rhone, FRANCE$680. 00Bottle$8160.00 DozenABV: 13.5%Closure: CorkOther Reviews....
The 2022 Cornas Reynard is one of the wines of the vintage in Cornas. Revealing a deeper, more complex bouquet than Les Chaillots, with aromas of dark wild berries, spices, violet, flowers and mulberries, it's medium to full-bodied, enrobing and elegant, layered and concentrated with a fleshy core of fruit, a tense, energetic mid-palate and more refined tannins that segue into a long, ethereal and violet-inflected finish. Pure and crystalline, this is a young classic in the making. Drink 2027-2042.

Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateIt's hard to wrap your head around how a red wine can have this enormous concentration and giant structure, yet be so refined and silky. Aromas of Damson plums, black raspberries and Amarena cherries exactly fill out the mouth-filling yet incredibly precise palate. Then comes the breathtaking finish that is as graceful as a great dancer who leaps effortlessly from one side of the stage to the other. From old vines in the Reynard site. 100% whole-cluster fermentation that starts as carbonic maceration, then a handful of punchdowns. Matured in large oak foudre casks. Drink or hold.

Stuart Pigott - JamesSuckling.comComing largely from the granite, south-facing soils of the Reynard lieu-dit and aged in used barrels, the 2022 Cornas Reynard reveals a beautiful array of red, blue, and black fruits, violets, spice, pepper, and orange zest. The class and purity here are something else, and it's medium to full-bodied, focused, and beautifully balanced, with fine tannins and remarkable elegance. This is a sensational Cornas in the making.

I'm a sucker for an off-dry riesling. 'Breakfast wines' my German mates call them, with their modest alcohols and RS to get the day started. Lemon, lime, white peach and green apple all make an appearance here, with a sorbet-like intensity to its carry, a slick of mineral salts and stone, a scattering of dried herbs and a lovely balance between sweetness and acidity. Drink by 2035.
