It's a steal at the price, but more importantly, it's a fabulous white wine to drink. It's fruity, it has attitude, it's textural through the finish and everything is well sustained. It makes the hard look easy. It's a lovely wine, complex and with the weight to stand up to all manner of foods. Drink by 2026.

Fruit for this superb Polish Hill River Riesling is sourced from Martin and Joan Smith and Molloy's vineyards which are virtually located next to each other. Despite growing these vines organically since their planting in the 1970’s, 2010 marked the first year of NASAA Organic Certification. Both vineyards consistently produce top quality fruit which highlights the excellence of this Clare Valley sub-region.

A pulsating, pure concentrate of Riesling that showcases Polish Hill River’s trademark steely structure.

Brilliant water like to very pale straw coloured core with distinct highlights of green around the edges. Soaring out of the glass are intense lime and citrus aromas followed by some orange rind, green apple, chalky talc and steely mineral notes. Mouth watering lime, lemon and green apple flavours are tightly wound and steely across the palate yet there is undeniable power here. Orange rind, chalky mineral, talc and wet steel characters linger through the back half. Sizzling acidity leads into a long, crunchy and pulsating finish. A Stunning Polish Hill River Riesling.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

Oh my. How good is this? This is the essence of Polish Hill River Riesling: the concentration of fruit, the depth, the texture, the spice, the quiet power. It’s all here. Just released and ready to be savoured and enjoyed. Jasmine, bergamot, citrus, grapefruit, a sprinkle of rosemary and white pepper aromas. How intriguing are those spices! Grown under organic methods, it brings extraordinary depth of citrus (grapefruit, Meyer lemon), green apple and lime zest married to an equally impressive depth of background spice, including earthy ginger and a light shake of white pepper. Acidity is well-honed with a mineral clean edge. This is what Polish Hill River Riesling is all about. Drink 2023-2037.

A superb Clare vintage, yet again, with a long and cool growing season. The vineyards, located next to each other, have been certified as organic since 2010. Gleaming pale yellow, there are strong citrus notes here. Lemons, limes and grapefruits, along with a gentle spicy touch and backed by cool river stones. This is finely balanced, focused and with such impressive length. A line of acidity runs the length. This can be enjoyed over the next ten to fifteen years, but well cellared, could go twenty to thirty. A stunning Riesling and simply extraordinary value. Buy it by the case.

Why is Riesling the best value wine in Australia? Crack this for $30 and you'll sit bolt upright. What a blistering wine we have here! So aromatic and so steely, all the best bits of a quality Riesling are here in a very tidy package. Bath salts, white flowers, Bickford's lime cordial and lemon juice reach for your favour along with a flicker of grapefruit. Green apple peel slides in late and right on cue. Like the Watervale, the shimmer of soft spices comes late but the citrusy tang is real. The expected river stone minerality and chalk feels arrive on cue to close. It's absolutely delicious and I just want more. Drink now to embrace the freshness but this will age beautifully.

Mineral-savoury start with wet stones, flint, brown limes and sage. Flavours are a pleasant continuation, full and round, filled with fleshy nectarines and pears in the middle, slightly grilled. Grapefruit finish with a dusting of pepper and nutmeg spice. I really enjoy the structure and texture of this wine, it has weight and detail. Feels like a whole wine, with front middle and back, confident and very well made. It’s a great deal of satisfaction. Drink 2023-2033+

Very intense and generous bouquet of mixed flowers, super-fragrant and scented, the palate likewise intense and bracingly dry with a touch of tannin augmenting the mouth-watering dryness. It's almost searingly crisp and intense, rapier-sharp and long-lasting. Quartzy mineral nuances. Very long carry. It will richly reward cellaring.

In 1839, shortly after his arrival from England, Joseph Gilbert started building a fine homestead in Eden Valley and planted the region’s first grapevines in 1847. Like so many vineyards in the 1920s and 30s, Pewsey Vale fell into disuse but, thankfully, its potential was rediscovered.
In 1961, pastoralist Geoffrey Angas Parsons became aware his property had once incorporated the region’s earliest vineyard and shared his discovery with good friend, and vigneron Wyndham Hill-Smith. Hill-Smith needed no further persuasion – work soon began on re-establishing Pewsey Vale Vineyard. Initially, 56 hectares of Riesling were planted in contoured rows. The several remaining hectares of these vines continue to provide fruit for Pewsey Vale Vineyard The Contours Riesling. All plantings at Pewsey Vale Vineyard are propagated from the original 1847 vines.
Brilliant water like core with greenish tinged edges. Leaping out of the glass are lime, citrus and orange rind scents trailed by some distinct talc and subtle steely mineral notes. Scrumptious lime and citrus fruits are underscored by crunchy acidity with notions of orange rind, chalky talc and flinty mineral elements lining the back half. Excellent intensity with a dry, tense and long snappy finish that’s laced with minerality.

Riesling sourced a single vineyard way up around 490m elevation in Pewsey Vale; made by winemaker Louisa Road. When I was living in the Eden Valley, 10km or so from this vineyard, we used to call Pewsey Vale riesling 'Eden Valley San Pellegrino', such was the gusto with which we consumed it. Nothing's changed. It's classic Eden Valley riesling through and through. Fresh limes, Christmas lily, a sizzling minerally line and thirst slakingly wonderful. Vital, vivid and essential summer drinking. Drink by 2023.

The Contours Riesling is crafted from old vines grown on the coolest slope within the Pewsey Vale Contours vineyard. Bottle aged for six years before release delivers a Riesling that’s rich and complex.
Brilliant pale straw colour with highlights of green around the outskirts and a watery hue. Intense lime, lemon and subtle bees wax scents are complexed by oily toast like notes and kerosene. Showing great precision and a tense feel the palate features mouth filling flavours of lemon, lime and oily toast characters over a waxy kerosene like back drop. Finishes dry with crisp acidity. Long oily yet minerally and vividly fresh aftertaste. Will continue to fill out and develop further complexity with bottle age.

So vibrant for it’s age, this has great concentration of candied-lime and grapefruit-zest character. Terrific structure and energy on the driving palate, but all of this is wrapped in rich citrus fruit to create stunningly complete harmony. Very long and compact finish that suggests this has at least a further decade of aging potential. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

As is to be expected, it’s rather tightly coiled upon opening with pointy angles of acidity, nashi pear juice and a little sniff of kerosene. Once it’s settled down though (I gave it an hour), the show really begins. Minerals sparkle all over the roof of the mouth like it was the inside of a geode and the textures soften into quite the graceful and generous wine. You can taste honey melted with butter over white toast on the lips and salty oyster shell on the tip of the tongue. Crunchy lemon and lime boiled lollies stain the mid palate, a lick of crushed almonds and spice on the sides and back and up above, there’s a warming retronasal length – lemon tart just starting to bake. Drink 2025-2032.

A ripe aroma builds with warm yellow fruits before opening into lemon freshness. The palate has richness and depth, with a mineral backbone running along with the toast and burnt-lime characters. There is a trace of sweetness but then a firm, crisp finish with a twist of phenolics.

The 2016 The Contours Riesling leads with cold buttered toast, creamed honey, fennel seeds and brine, while in the mouth, the wine expands to fill every available space. This is rich, complex and so fresh. It's kindly held back in the cellar for our drinking pleasure, so it is definitely ready for immediate consumption; but should you choose to rest this another decade or two, that would also be great. The Number series showcases the best wines from the Koomooloo vineyard, planted in 1989 at and altitude of 900m making it one of the highest and coolest vineyards in Australia.
Chardonnay grapes are handpicked, pressed, and undergo wild fermentation in French oak barrels, with 30% being new oak. The wine experiences partial malolactic fermentation in spring, and during its ten-month maturation on lees, frequent stirring (battonage) takes place.

In 1979 Mike Peterkin produced Australia’s first Semillon Sauvignon Blanc. Working at Cullen’s at the time, the wine went on to win a trophy at the Perth Royal Show. He never claimed any originality for the idea, he simply borrowed it from the French. In 1980 he was so convinced of the blend’s potential in Margaret River he devoted a third of the Pierro plantings to the varieties.
The 2023 L.T.C. is made up of 50% Semillon, 43% Sauvignon Blanc and 7% Chardonnay. Twenty five percent of the blend was fermented and matured in new and one & two year-old French oak barrels for a period of 2-3 months with the balance fermented and matured in stainless steel.
Brilliant water like colour with a distinct greenish tint to the edges. Intense passionfruit, lime and green apple scents burst out of the glass trailed by some delicate white peach and subtle grassy notes. Scrumptious passionfruit, green apple, lime and fleshy white peach fruits are underscored by mouth watering acidity. Fantastic concentration, drive and textural volume with delicate herbaceous grassy characters and zingy minerals flowing through the back half. Finishes dry and crisp with a long zippy aftertaste.

Such a good year for white varieties and this consistently first-rate wine has delivered again, but with the addition of even more natural crunchy vibrant fruit thanks to the vintage. The palate is more intense than previous vintages but still with that structure and precision that comes with the approach of using a combination of semillon and sauvignon, with a light touch of chardonnay. This really is a terrific wine. A cracker.

Hand-picked fruit, 100% whole-bunch pressed. Fermented in French oak barriques, on lees for 5 months. 2020 was a glorious vintage in Margaret River and has yielded wines of both power and poise. 'Effortlessness' is a word I am using over and over again for this vintage. This is that, with green apples, nashi pear, summer apricots, lanolin and cheesecloth, and fine, lemon pith acid. The Pierro nuts are in there too (all the Pierro whites have a creamy, nutty character; it makes them what they are). A beautiful wine. Totally graceful. Drink by 2036.

Savarro is an ancient green-skinned, tight-bunched grape variety that was first recorded in the 10th century. Over the millennia it travelled to all corners of Europe and was then extensively used to create many of today’s modern varieties. The cool climate of the Yarra Valley is perfect for the Savarro, with Soumah’s take on the variety cool tank fermented to retain fresh aromatics and aged on lees to promote texture.
Brilliant water like colour with a faint tinge of green to the edges. Delightful fresh pear, lime and green apple scents are trailed by wet stone and fresh herb notes. Brimming with energy are vibrant pear, lime and green apple fruits infused with fresh herbs. Excellent intensity with a stony mineral back drop and snappy acidity. The aftertaste long and highly refreshing.

This walks an astute line. Juicy fruit is to the fore, there’s enough texture to give it that something more, and it still manages to hone to a lengthy finish. Grapefruit pulp, citrus, anise and herbs. It’s tip-top delicious, in a refined way. Drink 2021-2025.

This is a reserved release and that, you’d have to argue, is a good thing. It has all the right components but it needs time for it to flesh out. Blossomy citrus and slate characters come with whispers of fennel and musk. The mouthfeel, dry riverstone-like, is very good, as is the general flow of it. At this early stage this looks to be in a very good/excellent place. Drink 2024-2040.

Tasted from a special magnum commemorating the 10th anniversary of this sub-regional release. The fruit is from several vineyard sources, with some of the material dating back to plantings from 1975. Quintessential Clare Valley riffs on Rose’s lime juice, quince paste, tonic, preserved lemon rind, wild fennel and gardenias. Dry and medium-bodied by virtue of the sheer extract and density of the mouthfeel. Yet despite the dryness, there is nothing hard. Tactile and impressively juicy across a tenacious finish. Impressive. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

The DJW vineyard was planted by John and son Daniel Wilson in 1997. At the time, the aim was to produce additional fruit for the successful Wilson Polish Hill River Riesling but the vineyard had other ideas. From the first vintage it was immediately obvious that the DJW vineyard was quite different from the Polish Hill River vineyard. The grapes and bunches were larger and the vineyard produced a spectrum of flavours that had their own unique qualities. As a consequence a new Riesling was born and was named after the single vineyard from where it originates, the DJW.

Wilson’s Polish Hill River Riesling is sourced from their oldest vineyards planted over 40 years ago. Its miniscule yields typically produce a wine rich in citrus fruits within a steely structure, tight with lots of minerality. Beneath the iron stained clay lies a bed of decomposing slate and scattered quartz. It’s also not unusual to find remnant pottery and agricultural implements from the Polish Settlers who once lived and farmed the area now planted to this small vineyard.

A stunning Polish Hill Riesling that has intense, mouth filling flavours sculptured by chiselled acidity.

Brilliant very pale straw colour with gleaming green tinged edges and a watery hue. Powerful aromatics of lime, lemon and Granny Smith apple engulf the olfactory senses complimented by wet steel, subtle chalky talc like notes and minerals. Racy lime, citrus and to a lesser extent orange rind flavours are delivered with magnificent concentration, stunning drive and show a real textural presence within a chiselled structure. Green apple, wet steel and chalky mineral elements also chime in. Threading the enormous volume of fruit is crunchy mineral infused acidity which provides a steely backbone. The finish exceptionally long, mouth filling and intense.

Brilliant water like colour with greenish tinged edges. Aromas of green apple and lime are backed by tropical fruit scents and faint spicy musk. The fruity palate serves up tropical fruit and lime flavours over a crunchy green apple and light spice back drop. Texturally well rounded finishing with crisp acidity and a zesty aftertaste.
