2013 A.D. Rattray Cask Collection Dalmore 12 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$169. 99Bottle$2039.88 DozenABV: 56.4%If you're underwhelmed by the light-weight, low ABV Dalmores that come out of sherry casks, this unusual bottling may re-ignite your interest in the distillery. A malt to chew your way through - pure, full-bodied and well-rounded, the malt nicely expressed alongside poached orchard fruits, Ovaltine and cocoa flavours. Intense and approachable at the same time, this is a genuine attention grabber - especially given it's so long since we've seen anything like it from Dalmore. And exclusively from Bourbon wood, which is almost unheard of. 235 bottles from a first-fill barrel. 56.4% Alc./Vol Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 30ml sample.
Notes from the bottlers... A rare opportunity to experience Dalmore from ex-bourbon wood, and entirely natural in colour. This exceptional cask is a highlight of the release, combining the distillery’s renowned elegance with a layered, yet approachable character. Tasting Notes Colour: Butterscotch gold. Nose: Apricot jam doughnuts, honey glaze and toasted coconut. Palate: Delicate choux pastry, almond praline and gentle clove. Finish: Buttery richness melts into roasted nuts and fine baking spice. Flavour Summary: Sweet/nut and baking spice.

2015 A.D. Rattray Cask Collection Annandale 10 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Lowlands, SCOTLAND$139. 99Bottle$1679.88 DozenABV: 60.5%Established in 1836, Annandale has lasted nearly two centuries, had three generations of whisky ownership and a ninety-year hiatus where it was used in porridge production and the housing of livestock. It's now in its fourth whisky era. The current owners preference American oak and offer peated malts - a reflection of the Lowlands’ whisky past. This is one of the very earliest casks filled after Annandale’s 2014 re-opening. Ten years in ex-bourbon wood makes for a fairly elementary, sweet malt with a robust, youthful brashness that gains interest at the finish. Juicy baked citrus, oily phenols and hints of cured meats emerge as the Highland peat brings a wood-smoke complexity. A vibrant peated style, and quite rare - to date, this is the second-only Annandale to land on our shelves. 202 bottles produced. 60.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 30ml sample.
Notes from the bottlers... Colour: Golden honey. Nose: Tobacco leaf, scorched rosemary and orange barley sweets. Palate: Earthy peat smoke, lemon bonbon and smoked sunflower seed. Finish: Sooted citrus and cooling menthol with a flick of char. Flavour Summary: Mineral/smoke and citrus fruit.

2007 A.D. Rattray Cask Collection Invergordon 18 Year Old Cask Strength Single Grain Scotch Whisky (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$149. 99Bottle$1799.88 DozenABV: 54%The Bourbon hogshead has done a good job of adding weight and 'malty' presence to the grain. It bears some bristles, but the length combined with a thick lick of vanilla wafer and Caramello milk chocolate tell you Rattray's made a prudent decision to reserve this cask early on. Good body and mouthfeel till the last. A substantial and solid grain for the age statement. 294 bottles from a Bourbon hogshead. 54% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 30ml sample.
Notes from the bottlers... Grain whisky at its best: refined, vibrant, and full of character. Matured in an ex-bourbon hogshead, it shows zesty citrus, gentle spice, and a crisp, lingering finish—a bright, approachable dram with a twist beyond tradition. Tasting Notes Colour: Sunlit gold. Nose: Zesty lime pith, fresh zest and soft vanilla. Palate: Citrus peel, white pepper and faint agave essence. Finish: Crisp citrus lingers with a spirited glow, a twist beyond tradition. 2017 A.D. Rattray Cask Collection Arran 8 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Isle of Arran, SCOTLAND$129. 99Bottle$1559.88 DozenABV: 59.8%From the first nosing to the final taste, this whisky is defined by an immense weight. Punctuating the spirit heat and oak spices are notes of biscuity malt, unripe pineapple and muted apple. An Arran so untamed, extreme and seemingly out of character that it almost leaves you wondering why they bottled it - until you add water, when it all falls into place superbly. 303 bottles from a Bourbon hogshead. 59.8% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 30ml sample.
Notes from the bottlers... In 2017, we hand-delivered this ex-bourbon hogshead to the legendary James MacTaggart at Lochranza. Bright orchard fruit and crisp malted notes lead to a bold, dry spice on the finish – an approachable single cask with clarity and charm. Tasting Notes Colour: Warm gold. Nose: Crisp barley, Seville orange and light malted honey. Palate: Sugar beet sweetness, white pepper and baked pear. Finish: Bold and unusual, with a dry spice that lingers invitingly. Flavour Summary: Cereal and orchard fruit.

Not known for been particularly robust, this Glen Ord breaks the mould. Fruity and malty at first, before the port enters leaving a lingering tart berry influence. Not exactly your expected fruity port finishing though; rather assertive, with a persistent, genteel fire. The kind of bracing dram you'd welcome in a hip flask mid-winter. 240 bottles at 52.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 30ml sample.

Sourced from a vineyard in the Hills district of Kuitpo, which is up the escarpment and within cooee above the eastern foothills of McLaren Vale. There’s a distinctive varietal aroma, crimson cherry and a waft of cola, an undercarriage of dried kitchen herbs like thyme and oregano. Unsurprisingly, these play a second act in the palate, their flavours accentuating a light meatiness in the tasting sensation. Whatever oak has carried the wine during maturation offers a sweet woodiness and spice to the finish, adding to a lovely sense of aromatics and flavour throughout. A pleasure to drink.

2019 Fattoria Carpineta Fontalpino Do Ut Des Toscana Rosso IGTTuscany, ITALY$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 4 Years (2026-2030)ABV: 14.5%Closure: CorkA rich, concentrated super Tuscan style blend with muscular tannins and a rustic finish.
When you consider the history of the region, Carpineta Fontalpino could be considered as one of the new kids on the block. Currently owned by brother and sister duo, Filippo and Gioia Cresti, the Estate has been in the family since the 1960’s. Their vineyards and winery are situated just outside the small medieval village of Montaperti in the subzone of Castelnuovo Berardenga.
Their wines are more muscular with greater weight and tannins compared to the northern sections of Chianti Classico. The principal reasons for this are the high portion of dark/red clay, supported by a solid layer of schistous rock and in general terms, a slightly warmer temperature than the northern communes.
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Midnight black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Elevated aromas of blackcurrant are interwoven with earthy black olive, tobacco, old cedar, leather and spice. Rich blackcurrant and liquorice fruits flood the mouth, framed by muscular tannins. Black olive, earth, dried herb, cedary tobacco and spicy leather characters lie underneath. Firm yet deeply fruited and concentrated it has a long, rustic finish.

A blend of organic Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, the Fattoria Carpineta Fontalpino 2019 Do Ut Des shows a beautiful sense of firmness and rich density. It amply wraps over the palate and begs to be served next to one of Tuscany's air-dried T-bone steaks cooked rare. Blackberry and mulberry play a leading role, but the wine also shows a strong supporting cast of black olive, spice and toasted rye bread. Earthy mineral notes appear over a long finish. This vintage is excellent. Drink 2024-2035.

Tasted from magnum, the organic Feudo Montoni 2020 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Vrucara is a wine that vintner Fabio Sireci has been working to improve for many years. It remains one of the best expressions of the grape on the market today. Since the 2017 vintage, it has included 15% stems. The "progetto raspi" is something that was passed down from Fabio's father, Elio. The trick is to avoid the bitterness of the stems, something Fabio does by sun-drying the fruit on cane mats as if it were an appassimento. The wine ages in cement for 40 months. The fruit comes from a 2.2-hectare site with clay and sand at 500 meters in elevation. This vintage (with 4,800 bottles created) shows a very ripe fruit profile with blackberry, baked plum and grilled herb. Those robust flavors fold into a medium-plus mouthfeel that is indeed soft and plush, with no astringency. Soft mineral tones give a sense of brightness to the finish. Drink 2024-2032.

Monica Larner – Robert Parker’s The Wine AdvocateA sheen of spicy oak and sweet lavender gives way to crushed wild blueberries and hints of confectionery spice as the 2020 Vrucara smolders up from the glass. This is elegant and polished in feel. Ripe red and blue fruits swirl across a stream of cooling acidity as a coating of fine-grained tannins saturates the palate toward the close. It finishes structured and long with a deep swath of blackberries and mocha. The 2020 is still incredibly young, but it’s quite complex. It will require time to integrate its oak and come fully into balance. Drink 2026-2034.

JamesSuckling.comMade from 60% Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay and pouring a vibrant silver/yellow color, the 2018 Champagne Brut Vintage (like all these wines) was aged in stainless steel without any oak. In the glass, it opens to springy and dewy floral aromas of honeydew melon, fresh flowers, citrus blossoms, and pastry dough. Medium-bodied and inviting, it’s approachable now and takes on a more mineral character on the palate without ever feeling austere. All its components move seamlessly through the palate, with a refined mousse and a kiss of sunny feel on the finish nodding to the warmth of the vintage, but it’s clean and refined all the way through. This is going to improve with age, but it’s quite enjoyable now. Drink over the coming 15 or so years. It was made exclusively from Premier Cru and Grand Cru villages, was aged for 6 years on the lees, and saw 7-8 grams per liter dosage. Drink 2024-2040.

Loch Lomond Heavily Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 40%Loch Lomond's peated expressions are usually marketed under their Inchmoan label, a marque that generally receives positive reviews for offering a high-value, punchy, and modern peat experience. This extension to their smoky lines was launched in 2020. There’s no information on the maturation length or the specific cask type, but the PPM level is said to be pretty serious, up around 50! Despite the label's statement of being "Heavily Peated", bottling at only 40% should offset that somewhat, making for a fairly accessible dram. One for those who like smoky but not so strong whisky! Either way, the price is right.

Laphroaig 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Islay, SCOTLAND$109. 99Bottle$1319.88 DozenABV: 46%Launched in 2025 for Travel Retail, this offers a slightly sweeter, more mature alternative to the standard 10-year-old, with the higher alcohol making for a longer finish where the American oak leaves its mark. 46% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... This baby is supposed to be, I quote, the ‘well-travelled one’ from the famed distillery, is that to say they’ve sent these casks off on ships to sail the seven seas, or something of the sort? Colour: white wine. Nose: well, there’s what the colour wouldn’t have led us to suspect: notes of fresh wood, especially ginger, and faint touches of coconut, but the rest keeps the Laphroaig DNA intact, that camphory, peaty side, with overripe apple, but then there’s the arrival of paprika and that’s clearly the cask. Smoked paprika, if you please (indeed, it does exist) … Mouth: the smoke in its rawest, most elemental state, austere, close to charcoal, then smoked paprika again, ripe apple, and a rather surprising touch of pineapple, which one knows can come from the casks. What’s really toned down compared to more classic Laphroaigs, like the ‘regular’ 10 or the CS, are the coastal and medicinal elements, which seem to have been somewhat erased. But it’s still very good. Finish: fairly long, with unexpected notes of exotic fruit liqueurs and syrups. Comments: it’s fairly simple but I find it good, different, surprising. Of course, the 46% is most welcome. 85 points - whiskyfuin./com
- 1976 Delord Bas Armagnac (700ml)Armagnac, FRANCE$280. 00Bottle$3360.00 DozenABV: 40%
Step away from Delord's core range and you get to explore their vintage-dated series. These bottlings frequently deliver greater individuality and texture. The 1976 promises flavours of dried fruits (figs, cherries), chocolate and oak with a slightly rustic rancio character. Patience is a consideration, as these old brandies typically benefit from extended breathing time. Once opened, there's no hurry to finish it. These spirits don't oxidise quickly like a wine or Vintage Port, but they are best consumed within a few years, as recommended by the BNIA (Bureau National Interprofessionnel de l’Armagnac). 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Matured in bourbon barrels, this has an accessible nose of golden syrup, oatmeal cookies, walnut, vanilla extract, oak, and subtle citrus. The flavors revolve around citrus, pepper, smoke, baking chocolate, and more vanilla extract, but despite admirable flavors, the mouthfeel is thinner than others in the range, so consider trading up if you can. 2015 Edradour 200th Anniversary 10 Year Old PX Sherry Cask Small Batch Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 46%"This whisky, with its style that I actively avoided for the longest time, has won me over completely. " - dramface.com
From colour to taste, this extreme release will likely be too intense for those who appreciate the distillery’s purest forms (Edradour's bourbon cask bottlings would be the better showcase). That leaves all the more for the sherry heads - and there are plenty of us. Andrew Symington's signature flourish places impact before elegance in a whisky matured entirely in first-fill Pedro Ximénez (sweet) sherry butts to mark the distillery's bicentennial. Offering a decadent profile of dried fruits, dark chocolate and toffee at a price that's completely accessible, it will be your fireside companion this winter, a dessert whisky par excellence, or a preferred dram for whenever you feel like spoiling yourself. This style isn't for everyone, but it is a rallying call to fans of sherried malts longing for the bargains of yesteryear. We have one parcel only, just landed at direct-from-the-distillery pricing. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered and natural in colour.
Other reviews... Very sweet wave of PX sherry. Jammy again! Home-made cherry and forest fruit jam. It’s blackcurrants, strawberry, stewed prunes, and raisins galore. The kind of chocolate bonbons with alcoholic cherry creaminess inside. There are baking spices here, but they take a while to break through the fruit salad barricade. There’s that suggestion of Appassimento wine again. The finish is slightly drying. High cocoa content chocolate acerbity. It takes water well, and after a while that softens the experience a bit. Dilute to your own preference; it’ll play along nicely. This is a very well executed whisky. It turns out that if the casks are good and the distillate is robust and hefty enough to stand up to them instead of getting devoured by them, PX casks might be my thing after all. And this isn’t even a gentle finish; it’s full maturation for 10 years. I’m sure you can tell by now that I like it. This whisky, with its style that I actively avoided for the longest time, has won me over completely. It’s going down quicker than most bottles at the moment, and that tells me all I need to know. - dramface.com
...Not the typical Edra. Sweet, but not the over spice, nutty, dry finish that we dread. What a wonderful OB. Drinks like a well rested 22 y.o., but is too busy and diverse to notice. I wish that this revolutionary bottle could be a trend for the distillery. Definitely a best buy bottle. - whiskybase.com
- InchDairnie Distillery KinGlassie Double Matured 8 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Fife, SCOTLAND$199. 99Bottle$2399.88 DozenABV: 46.3%
Other reviews... "...not just the first peated whisky from InchDairnie, but also the first single malt...KinGlassie is InchDairnie’s heavily peated whisky. As opposed to FinGlassie, which has already been bottled by a number of independents, it will never be sold to third parties. It’s made using a “special yeast recipe” and with St Fergus peat from Aberdeenshire. The barley, all sourced from within Fife, is peated to 50 parts per million on average. The spec range is 40 to 60 ppm, meaning there can be fluctuations between different vintages of KinGlassie. Initially InchDairnie was planning on releasing just one expression of KinGlassie, the Double Matured. This peated single malt first matured for five years in ex-bourbon casks and then a further three years in Amontillado casks. “Our plan was to only take the Amontillado matured whisky out of the cask. The other [KinGlassie] that had been in ex-bourbon casks for the full eight years, we were going to let it rest for another four years. But we tasted the spirit, and it was like… A completely different beast – although actually not a beast nor is the Amontillado overpowering in any way. This whisky is balanced and maybe more subtle than you might expect. For a heavily peated whisky, the smoke influence is relatively secondary, which suits me well.” - wordsofwhisky.com
...Nose: A great seaside note here: smell of fresh ocean spray and seaweed to start. There’s a lovely little smoky tinge but nothing overwhelming. Then some fresh lemon and white sugar. Palate: Minerally and fresh, with bolder smoky notes on the palate, alongside some lovely sweetness in the form of strawberries and vanilla. Finish: Long and drawn out, lots of ashy smoke and just a touch of bitterness. Comment: A really well-balanced coastal dram with something for the peat lover and non-peat lover alike. - whiskymag.com

Mancino Vermouth di Torino Bianco Ambrato Vermouth (750ml)ITALY$65. 99Bottle$791.88 DozenABV: 16%An artisanal vermouth named after its creator, Italian bartender Giancarlo Mancino (his home town is pictured on the label). The recipe employs 37 botanicals including alpine rose, chamomile, elderflower, gentian and mint, sweet orange and ginger, pink grapefruit, cardamom, liquorice, grapefruit peel and quinine, blended with a Trebbiano di Romagna wine base. Ideal in a Vesper, neat or on the rocks with a wedge of orange, or add a few splashes to a Gin & Vodka Tonic. 16% Vol.
Other reviews... This bittersweet vermouth starts with honeyed richness and then veers towards the bitter side. Very generously flavoured. 5 Stars (Exceptional) - diffordsguide.com
A big but harmonious fruit bowl of a vermouth: Bold, ripe pear, golden raisin, and a juicy hint of pineapple lead into an assertive coconut and almond midpalate. The finish is laced with clove and cardamom, plus grapefruit peel bitterness. Producer recommends mixing into a Spritz with an orange wedge – sure, what's one more fruit in the mix? 93 points - wineenthusiast.com

Ardnamurchan AD/Paul Launois 2026 Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$159. 99Bottle$1919.88 DozenABV: 57.4%"Delicate, understated, complex and classy. Take some time out with this one." - whiskybase.com
As far as unpeated Ardnamurchans go, year in year out, the Paul Launois release seems to be the most representative, and the most popular. This is the fifth instalment, matured in ex-bourbon barrels and finished for around 14 months in x-Grand Cru Champagne barriques. There is something about unpeated Ardna' that makes it incredibly approachable, offering a softer side that conveys a buttery, shortbread-like character, especially on the nose. The palate is disarmingly light for a natural strength malt, with those same notes counterpointed by a little orchard fruit, citrus, a saline mineral finish and what feels like drifts of smoke. The best of the series so far - at least, that's what a number of online comments have reported. Given all of the above, it makes you wonder why they don't do more of it? 5726 bottles released at 57.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Tasted from a 25ml sample.
Other reviews... Ardnamurchan continues the path with Paul Launois and justifiably so, as the results are pretty decent. The good thing about the maturation in these Champagne casks is that it brings an extra layer to an already excellent whisky. That should always be the added value of using exotic casks over regular bourbon. This one has a sour note that is really elevated by the excellent spirit of this distillery. Playing with water is recommended to utilize the full potential of this bottling. I tried this sample on the same day as the new Sherry Cask release, and must say the price-quality is better covered by the more traditional sherry expression. But that, one must say, is truly a different beast (peated, sherried) compared to this more elegant style. Truly PX versus Champagne. A good display of varieties from which you yourself can choose favorites. The Paul Launois batches I will gladly keep on following , but a whole bottle is for now not my preference. Having said that, this is a softer, sour, fizzy kind of malt, and rather unique. Perfect balance. - whiskybase.com

A Barossa blend of Grenache (44%), Shiraz (38%) and Mourvèdre (18%), the wine spent six months maturing in a mixed of seasoned French and American oak. An attractive ruby maroon hue, the nose offers bright red cherries, spices and a hint of mulberries. Red fruits to the fore with delightfully lifted aromatics, this is fresh and joyful. Decent length here, with good balance and fine tannins, this is quite delicious and will remain so for at least the next four to six years, likely longer. This is absolutely cracking value. A case or two of this in the cellar is wise buying, indeed. Drink 2025-2031.

"Young age is noticeable, nonetheless this Ardnamurchan showcases distillery character in the best way." - whiskybase.com
Some are already comparing Ardnamurchan with Springbank, though that might be a bit premature. What is undeniable is that these whiskies carry a truckload of flavour for youngsters, that's most evident in their natural strength bottlings. This one's a blend of 87% peated and 13% unpeated spirit, primarily matured in ex-bourbon casks, the last 10% from sherry. 12,911 bottles were produced at 57.7% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews.... It's a complete success, the balance is perfect between the predominant Bourbon which highlights a more mature distillate, and the peat and Sherry which give character, depth and fruit. - whiskybase.com

A little edgier in acidity and grippier than previous releases, which raises the potential for some further ageing. In saying that, the grape's preserved lemon and almond savouriness is still apparent – that's a good thing – and, so too, the zesty citrus bonanza. Lemon, grapefruit pith and green apple with savoury notes and a saline tang light up the palate. Nuff said; it's obligatory with shellfish. Drink by 2028.
