It is difficult to overstate just how central Weingut Keller has become to the modern understanding of dry Riesling. Since Klaus-Peter Keller took over from his father in 2001, the estate has set a global benchmark for precision and expression, joined in recent years by his son Felix, who now plays an increasingly active role in both the vineyards and cellar. Together with Julia Keller, they continue to refine a style that balances crystalline purity with textural depth, producing some of the most sought-after wines in Germany and beyond.
Morstein is the most historic of Keller's holdings, first documented in the 13th century and renowned for its active limestone and clay-marl composition. The vineyard's elevation and exposure give it a reputation for longevity and complexity, making it a cornerstone of Keller's dry Riesling portfolio.

From vines planted in 1944, the Westhofen 2023 Morstein Riesling GG opens intense and fine like a perfume, with wet chalk, lemon juice and yellow plum aromas. Full-bodied, pure and refined on the palate, this is a juicy, savory and saline, finely tannic and chalky Riesling with a long, aromatic and stimulating finish. I tasted this potentially great wine as a sample in May 2024. It was to be bottled in July, but it won't be released before May 2025. Drink 2026-2060.

The 2023 Riesling Westhofener Morstein Grosses Gewächs is made from 75-year-old vines higher up in the Morstein. Just a touch of reduction still swings on the nose, but underneath, white peach, lemon balm and chervil flirt enticingly. Later on, creamy lemon joins in. Smooth serenity, absolutely cooling depth and an almost zen-like calm define the palate. Lemon at the core is almost incidental to this luminous, cool, profound wine with impeccable purity, poise and freshness. The longer you consider this, the deeper it sinks into that limestone. Someone once described Keller's wines as the Puligny-Montrachet of Germany, and this one exemplifies that association. It’s not the grape variety that takes centre stage here, but the terroir – clay marl with limestone on a rocky subsoil. Everything comes together in perfect harmony: a silky texture, balanced ripeness, and a captivating flow. A hint of iodine mingles with citrus fruit, and the memory of this wine lingers far beyond its finish. Drink 2024-2055.

An even deeper note than in the Oberer Hubacker. Spicy, rich, open in citrus and smoky/herbal complexity. A little more obvious reduction here. Altogether a darker, deeper wine that the previous wines from limestone soils. Immense concentration and power, essence of Riesling from this site, which give a more savoury complexity and seems incapable of flirting with the taster. But the taste stays with you for ever. Something here reminds me of Schubertslay even though the soils and the topography are so different. A smoky/herbal aftertaste. Drink 2027-2040.

Other reviews... After reading the official tasting notes, I had to try this Tormore a second time. Someone missed their calling, though, as the whisky has very little to do with it. But that doesn't make the whisky any worse; on the contrary, this sherry cask maturation is refreshingly different from all the dark red liqueur whiskies. - whiskybase.com

In June 2022, Elixir Distillers (the company behind a slew of UK brands such as Port Askaig and Elements of Islay) took over Tormore distillery from corporate giant, Pernod Ricard. Since then, they've presented the 'Blueprint Cask Program', an official pre-release series of three 10 year old expressions. Each focuses on a style of maturation that may form the basis of upcoming bottlings: One from bourbon barrels, another from toasted barrels and a third matured in Cream sherry casks. A core range is expected to follow in 2026. Meanwhile, malt lovers can get a heads up on these. Each Blueprint is a run of 1500 bottles at 48% ABV and are non-chill filtered. Given Tormore has mostly been a workhorse for blends, official bottlings didn't exist until 2004. Subsequent releases under Pernod Ricard never gained wide recognition, and the void has only been filled by independent offerings from Signatory, Cadenhead’s and Gordon & MacPhail. Hence, this much-overlooked distillery will be a novelty for most. The Bourbon Barrel expression has been summed up as "A great Summer whisky."

The Quintet is Mount Mary's signature red and, for many, the heart of the estate. Blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, it reflects both the site and the season with quiet precision. The 2023 vintage brings together 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec. Each component is fermented on skins for around two weeks before spending close to two years in oak: a thoughtful mix of large-format, new and seasoned barrels. The result is a wine that captures the estate's hallmark balance of structure, freshness and subtle complexity.

Black-fruited and perfumed, with aromas of blackcurrants, violets, licorice, cassia bark, graphite, blueberry compote, pomegranates, tobacco, mahogany, lead pencil shavings and balsamic strawberries. The palate is mid-weighted, with finely integrated tannins and balanced acidity leading into a textural, rounded and seamless mouthfeel. There’s an excellent balance of fruit, florals, earth and herbs, anchored by a mineral core. This Bordeaux blend with New World freshness is built for the ages, yet offers plenty of early drinking appeal. What a wine. Drink or hold.

The 2023 Quintet is, like every other Quintet I've tasted in my life, pure joy. The wine is famous for its fine frame and floral aromatics, its ability to age what feels interminably and its unfettered expression of this corner of the Yarra Valley—Coldstream. While the cooler season of 2023 has shaped some of the elements of the wine, it remains true to its site and leaves a gentle cedar note trail through the memory. It has more pomegranate and cherry than cassis or blackberry, along with notes of violets, bay leaf and star anise even. It is a beautiful wine, one of my favorite Cabernets in this country. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under Diam cork. Drink 2025-2043.

47/28/15/6/4% cabernet sauvignon/merlot/cabernet franc/petit verdot/malbec. In a hark back to cooler years, this was picked after the rain at the start of April. Brightly coloured, the result is a gorgeous wine; perfumed and beguiling with pure, blackcurrant fruit aromas, graphite, violets and subtle, oak-derived cedar and pencil shavings. The palate is classically medium bodied with lovely persistence, the fruit supported by balanced, fine-grained tannins and equally fine acidity. Like all great Mount Mary Quintets this will age gracefully over the next two decades but, given a good decant, is also balanced an approachable enough to enjoy in its youth. Drink 2027-2040.

This is a crisper, more acid than tannin based vintage, or at least that’s my reading. Blueberry, blackcurrant, nutmeg, peanuts and tilled earth, pencil and violet perfume, with a smoky pipe tobacco and a dried herb top note, some liquorice richness is there too, which is kind of surprising! There’s a coolness to this wine, though it’s still all blackcurrant and black olive, very finely etched with a bright cranberry and raspberry finish of excellent length. Tight and slightly tangy, and I reckon it will do so well with bottle age. I like the graphite/pencil thing on the finish very much, and the dried violet that carries a lingering fragrance as it closes. Gee, I love the perfume that this wine has, though tannin has a little more scratchiness to it than is typical. I’m thinking about this wine more than is usual, which is a good sign. In short, one of the more aromatic releases, though lesser in tannin quality. Still, it’s a beautiful thing. Drink 2029 - 2044+.

The 2025 Tupelo wine is crafted from a harmonious blend comprising 39% Pinot Gris, 30% Pinot Blanc, and 24% Gewürztraminer, 7% Riesling. This unique composition pays homage to the renowned Alsatian 'Gentil' style by combining the full-bodied and textured characteristics of Pinot Gris, the lively vibrancy of Pinot Blanc, the aromatic spiciness of Gewürztraminer, and culminating in the finesse and acidic structure of Riesling. The grapes are all meticulously handpicked and destemmed and undergo approximately eight hours of skin contact before being gently pressed and then aged in seasoned oak barrels for a wild fermentation process. Gewurztraminer, on the other hand, lingers on the skins for a slightly longer period of two days before fermentation. Each varietal is then left to rest on lees for two months, without any sulphur before being blended and bottled.

Sam Connew's 'Tupelo' is consistently one of my favourite wines in her vinous quiver. You see, it's a blend of pinot gris, riesling, gewürztraminer and pinot blanc and it's a case of the whole being more that the sum of its parts. It's slinky and textural, with characters of poached pear, wildflowers, honeysuckle, crushed stone, clover, iced peach tea, ozone and almond paste. It is complex and wildly easy to drink at the same time ... no mean feat and of course, being Taswegian, there is minerally energy to burn. It's a ripper. Drink 2025-2030.

The 2025 Single Vineyard Riesling delicately balances between being 'dry' and 'off-dry' (6.7g/L residual sugar), and achieves a remarkable equilibrium between acidity and fruitiness. The Riesling comes from all three blocks of the Stargazer vineyard located in the Tea Tree sub-region of Coal River, planted in 2004, 2017, and 2021, supplemented with grapes from another grower in Campania sub region, planted in 2001. The grapes are carefully hand-picked, destemmed, and then undergo eight hours of skin contact maceration before being pressed and transferred to tanks for fermentation. Fermentation is halted when the ideal sugar-to-acid balance is achieved, and the wine is left on lees for several months, with gentle stirring every two weeks.

A fragrant and wonderfully perfumed Coal River Valley riesling that shows characters of green apple, grapefruit, yuzu, lime, apple blossom, mineral salts, clover and crushed stone. There are little crushed mountain herb notes that join in on the palate, with a fine, lacy mineral driveline and a swell of green apple, citrus and stone on the back end. Drink 2025-2035.

This wine comes exclusively from Stargazer's own vineyards in the Tea Tree sub-region of the Coal River Valley, where the vines were planted in 2002. The soil here is clay loam with a high calcium content, which results in thicker grape skins and more flavor. The fruit is handpicked, destemmed, and left on the skins for 12 hours before gentle pressing. The juice is wild fermented in ceramic and concrete egg-shaped containers where it is left to age on lees for a further 10 months.

Pale straw with aromas of green apple, lime and grapefruit with hints of flint, clover blossom, wildflowers, distant crushed herbs, cold chamomile tea, crushed stone, sea spray and ozone. There is just a touch of texture on the palate, which shows a focused mineral line and excellent tension between the inherent citrus and apple fruit tones and the chalky mineral cadence. We received a tiny 20ml sample, leaving the impression of a lightish, pastry-soft malt, almost floral in moments, with a gorgeous feminine character framed by clean oak and spices. The distillers state it's deliberately styled like a Scottish Highlander, but it could equally pass for a polished, malt-heavy blend. 48% Alc./Vol.

A new tequila venture founded by former Test Cricket Captain, Adam Gilchrist. The brand’s name, El Arquero, is Spanish for “The Archer” and “The Keeper”. “That’s where the cricket reference ends,” Gilchrist says. “I wanted something that could stand on its own two feet... I’m not a brand ambassador, I’m a founder. I wanted to do it properly.” Adamant that the brand isn't about celebrity or fanciful stories, Gilchrist is genuinely interested in quality. “We didn’t want to just slap a label on someone else’s juice,” he says. “We wanted something authentically made, traditionally distilled, and clean as it gets. No additives, no shortcuts.” So he and his team partnered with the Báñuelos family, third-generation masters and original founders of Cazadores. Their Destiladora de Los Altos distillery has been quietly perfecting the art for over half a century.
The Blanco is aimed at being accessible without compromising proper tequila character. Seven year old agaves are harvested to create a bright, herbaceous aroma leading to a refreshingly crisp palate. According to Esquire Magazine, "...clarity shows in the liquid. The Blanco leads with roasted pineapple, citrus and white pepper before sliding into notes of vanilla and lemon. A small portion is aged briefly in oak, just enough to take the sting out of the back end." 38% Alc./Vol.

Following the series’ inaugural release in 2024 (La Bonne Intention / DHE) comes this single barrel blend of two pot still rums, PM (Port Mourant double wooden pot still ) & DHE (Diamond High Ester from a small John Dore double retort pot still), both aged for 10 years in second-fill Bourbon barrels. According to the company, their high ester rums are marked by intense fruity and floral notes, driven by the concentration of the aromatic compounds that define their signature character. The distillation process involves slow boiling and high reflux in the DHE still, which is said to help retain and extract the high concentration of ethyl acetate produced during the “funky fermentation” process. As a result, the rum achieves ester levels exceeding 1,500 grams per hectolitre.
Beyond the deep mahogany colour, the first thing you notice is the volatility of alcohol. Once the fumes recede the nose gives way to papaya, mango yogurt, ginger warmth and latent vanillas. If you like your rums intense, this comes with a potent, almost incendiary attack of succulent tropical fruits and bracing spices. As your mouth adjusts to the ABV it feels less aggressive.; flavours of ginger biscuits and dry molasses are evident, as is the Bourbon oak input, but overall it's true to the label, capturing a bittersweet fruit-bomb profile that repeatedly brings you back to those funky esters, reminiscent of banana bread and ripe papaya, especially as the finish gains definition after air contact. Not everyone can handle these very natural and exotic styles, but most would agree, they're rare to find, and deliver at least twice as much character than 99% of mainstream market rums. 51.7% Alc./Vol.
Notes from the producers... aromas of green apple, flambéed banana, and subtle notes of clove, cigar, and peat. On the palate, the fruit-forward style showcases notes of ripe tropical fruit, clove, and infused tobacco spice.

In the last decade, no-age-statement (NAS) whisky has been championed, and age statements have tumbled. In an unusual move for the Scotch Whisky Industry, Glenmorangie are putting age statements up instead of down, starting with their newly presented core releases.
Other reviews... The new Original, changed from 10 to 12 years old, stands tall with fresh ripe orange and peach fruitiness on the nose, then honey, vanilla cream, wood spice, and exotic flora notes. The palate revolves around lemon, vanilla, apricot, peach, and orange, plus cinnamon and banana bread. There used to be the modest but likeable 10 year old ‘The Original’, which we last tried in 2023 (WF 81) but it’s since been replaced by this 12 year old, the house having added two extra years of maturation. A refreshing change from the recent global trend of reducing ages by heading toward NAS territory, you know whisky's way of doing shrinkflation. Colour: gold. Nose: the 40% do make themselves felt, or rather not felt, if you see what I mean, but the American oak casks do lend their usual creamy and vanilla-forward touch, alongside ripe apples, banana, soft oak (with a whisper of fresh sawdust), and a fairly prominent note of Earl Grey tea. Also some fresh barley, which makes the whole thing rather pleasant. Mouth: we find the nose again on the palate, though it leans a little more towards oranges this time, and thus a little less towards the rest. A hint of bitterness follows, then green tea, a touch of ginseng and a suggestion of peach skin. It’s light but not weak. Finish: a little short, yet once again, fair enough. Green tea with a drop of honey and a discreet grassy side. Comments: I quite like this charming little dram, nicely put together. 82 points - whiskyfun.com

Other reviews... The ‘replica’ wave shows no sign of retreating, and this design strongly evokes the old official Tormores from the 1970s. You’ll say those were excellent!... Toasted casks are a different breed from the usual charred ones typically used for whisky, but a strong toast will also leave its mark on the contents, leaning towards coffee yet with fewer tannins. Colour: straw. Nose: for the moment we’re on mineral and citrusy tension, which brings to mind some young Pulteneys we’ve just sampled. It’s fresh, with a fatty side on the nose (sunflower oil, green banana, peanut butter) but, thank goodness, there’s no avalanche of coconut and vanilla in sight. A few dandelion petals fluttering in the background. Mouth: there’s a distinctly spicy and resinous edge here, one wonders whether it’s European oak—or even Mizunara? Also heaps of maquis honey with a punchy character, and a definite juniper note that’ll have you sailing straight across the North Sea to Holland. Eligo is made from the most exceptional parcels of fruit available to John and Tim Duval. Comprising 62% Barossa Valley and 38% Eden Valley Shiraz, the exceptional 2021 vintage was sourced from old vineyards in the Ebenezer (Hoffmann), Krondorf (Stoll) and Moppa (Chapman) sub regions of the Barossa Valley and the Moculta (Fechner) and Mt McKenzie (Knight/Severin) sub regions of the Eden Valley. Maturation took place in French oak (42% new) for a period of 18 months.
Impenetrable inky black heart with a deeply saturated dark red black hue. Wafting from the glass with terrific intensity are heady aromas of ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and dark chocolate followed by some vanillin oak, earthy mocha and spice notes. Rich and opulent the palate is drenched in a tidal wave of blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits. Vanillin oak, earthy mocha, subtle fennel and spice elements are draped across the back half. Dense and powerful yet not over bearing it has beautifully structured tannins and a long sweeping finish that embodies both refinement and Barossa’s trademark plush feel.

The concept was that after blending, each expression in the series should capture a pivotal moment in the whisky-making process, highlighting the scale of variability, while celebrating the beauty that can emerge along the way.
Number one in the series, The Field, tells the journey from field to distillery. Each year, barley is harvested and undergoes malting, serving as the primary raw material for the distillery. But before it arrives at the facility, it's already been shaped by diverse forces of nature, environment, and the malting process. ...One might often think that modern whisky is an industrial product, made in facilities run by two or three people and some quasi-quantum computers. But then you read this on Bladnoch’s website and feel reassured: ‘The Dragon Series showcases the scale of variability encountered throughout the process, which is seemingly chaotic and unpredictable.’ That’s exactly what we love, is it not? Colour: pale white wine. Nose: apple cake and lemon cake, neither quite baked enough, which really brings out the cereal and yeasty notes we always enjoy. Bottled at 48.3% ABV, 'Spirit' was drawn from a blend of first-fill and re-fill bourbon casks. On the nose, you might find pear drops with fresh cut grass, typical of Lowland styles. They say 'The Dragon Series is a tribute to the timeless power struggle between science and nature' An idea that's no doubt causing quite a stir over in Washington D.C. these days. Colour: very pale white wine. Nose: dry as a stick, showing plenty of grassiness, porridge, a fair few oatcakes and a touch of earthy roots. A smattering of very small pears over in the fruit department, which speaks of youth. Mouth: fruity notes of barley syrup and baked apples to start, then we're back on porridge and grains, the whole thing growing more malty and rather taut as it goes. A few fruits that haven’t quite ripened, but that's just how we like it. The texture is on the oily side. Finish: of medium length, returning to grassy tones with hints of lemon zest. Run by Laurent Charvin this small family estate has vineyard holdings of 8 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape and 13 hectares in Cotes du Rhone. Certified organic the average age of the vines is over 50 years old. These Grenache based wines follow traditional winemaking techniques with no de-stemming and all aging takes place in cement tanks. Charvin’s Côtes du Rhône is regularly rated as one of the very best from this area and perhaps it is not surprising as the vines for this cuvee border directly on to the appellation for Chateauneuf du Pape in the northern sector where they are located.
Deep dark red black core with a dark red hue. Seductive black raspberry, liquorice and black cherry scents sail out of the glass with impressive lift. Scorched earth, herbs du Provence and peppered meat notes ensue. Rich, succulent black raspberry, liquorice and ripe black cherry fruits engulf the mouth framed by firm, chewy tannins which impart a muscular feel. Infusions of herbs du Provence, scorched earth and peppered meats the undercard. Ample in its power and concentration it finishes long and juicy yet quite robust.

This is Eldorado Road’s first release of Chardonnay from this Beechworth single site vineyard. 2024 was a growing season that delivered a fuller, richer expression of Chardonnay. The fruit was all hand-picked and chilled overnight with 100% barrel fermentation, part wild and the balance inoculated. It was then matured on matured on lees for 10 months.

Notes from Sullivan's Cove... “This delightfully complex and textural whisky’s fruit and fresh grain notes defy its proud position as one of the oldest Australian single malt whiskies ever released. Nose: Banana, walnut, crème caramel, liquorice, kumquats, black pepper, camphor, and antique oak. Palate: Creamy and sweet with flavours of banoffee pie, meringue, macadamias, sweet pastry, toffee apple, and milk chocolate fudge. A veritable fruit salad of classic red varieties here with Shiraz dominant (59%), supported by Cabernet Sauvignon (33%), Cabernet Franc (6%) and Merlot (2%). The fruit comes from the Barossa Valley (40%) and Eden Valley (60%). Maturation was for twenty months in a combination of French and American hogsheads, with 20% of the French oak new. A vibrant dark maroon hue, the nose exhibits notes of coffee beans, mocha, kirsch, tobacco leaves, bergamot, cassis, cold tea and licorice. This is elegant and yet with intensity. Exciting stuff. Balanced, focused, fresh and energetic, there are silky tannins and momentous length. This will drink beautifully for at least fifteen years. As good a Euphonium as I can recall. Drink 2025-2040.

This is classically styled but on the expressive and textural end of things, even at what is relatively modest alcohol, with acidity a key driver. Plump with varietal pear notes (both Williams and Bosc), red apple skin, cinnamon and poached apple. This has rolling layers of fruit marked by both generosity – of flavour and feel – and enough reserve, making it an eminently pleasing drink sans food, but also one that will happily hold its own with dishes fresh and bright to those with a bit more weight and fatty intensity. This bottling was an early benchmark for the grape here, and still is. Drink by 2029.

Intense and textural with a long zesty finish.
Fiano originates from a province in Campania, east of Naples and it’s perfectly suited to the McLaren Vale climate, so much so that it has become the regions fastest growing white wine category. Coriole planted Fiano in 2001 and their first commercial release was the 2005 vintage.
Fifteen percent of the blend was barrel fermented in older French hogsheads.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a watery hue. Fresh lime and Granny Smith apple scents jump out of the glass followed by hints of pear, subtle Mediterranean herb and mineral notes. Crunchy pear, lime and green apple fruits are delivered with plenty of intensity and textural volume over a back drop of mediterranean herbs and minerals. Juicy, rich and powerful with a long super succulent finish.
This old vine Grenache was crafted from three blocks on Yalumba’s Tri-Centenary Vineyard, planted in 1929, 1949 and 1979 located in the tiny Barossa Valley sub region of Vine Vale. The three blocks were wild fermented together with 30% whole bunch fruit. Maturation took place in older French oak puncheons for a period of 6 months.
Semi translucent dark red core with black shaded edges and a vibrant crimson red hue. Captivating red to dark raspberry, red liquorice and cherry scents evolve from the glass with ample intensity. Spicy clove, scorched earth and peppered fennel elements lend further interest. Juicy dark raspberry, liquorice and ripe dark cherry fruits engulf the mouth. Outstanding richness and power with vanillin spice, subtle clove, earth and peppered dried herb elements also chiming in. Underlyingly crunchy acidity with silky smooth tannins and a long super succulent finish.

Consistently one of my favourite Australian Grenache, and each year I look forward to seeing what it reveals. In this case, the season was very good and it comes from old vines planted in 1929 and 1949. The colour is quite pale crimson, and the body more light than medium. But the aromas are just the start. Strawberry, rose petal, a little spice, raspberry, and a touch of dried herb. The palate is so vibrant and red-fruited, with a crunchy fine acidity sustaining that slightly fleshy, plush, velvety smooth mid-palate. I’m loving it. Drink 2025 – 2032.

Yalumba do good things with grenache, that's for sure. This sandy soils of Vine Vale at the base of the Eastern Range are just perfect for the variety, too. They coax the high tones and detail out of the variety that I just love. Supple red cherry, dark plum and raspberry fruits cut with exotic spice, subtle bunchy nuance, cola, gingerbread, citrus blossom and earth. Savoury and great drinking with powdery tannin and tail of raspberry, red cherry and spice. Drink by 2035.

Rich and sumptuous with a youthful freshness, robust structure and long, dense conclusion.
Chris Hatcher, affectionately known as Hatch, has been a winemaker for almost 50 years including more than 35 years at Wolf Blass where he picked up numerous awards including the Jimmy Watson Trophy and three time IWSC international winemaker of the year. Having recently retired from the corporate winemaking scene Hatch has embarked on his own personal venture for which his first releases have received widespread critical acclaim.
A blend of several vineyards across the Mclaren Vale region, Vesey takes its name from Chris Hatcher’s great-grandfather Alf Vesey who started winemaking at Penfolds in 1883. He worked at Magill for an amazing 69 years and was the Master Winemaker for 47 of those years during which time he famously mentored Max Schubert, the creator of Penfolds Grange.
Super saturated inky black heart with an equally deep dark purple black hue. Heady ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum scents waft through the nostrils complimented by some ripe blueberry, toasty vanillin cedar and peppered earth notes. Rich, sumptuous blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits are delivered with impressive intensity and opulence. Spicy vanillin cedar, earth, subtle dark chocolate and peppered fennel elements the back drop. Powerful and carrying a slightly muscular feel it has sturdy yet polished tannins and a youthful freshness. Concludes long and dense with a robust structure.

It is one of those things, that when you get good fruit and a good winemaker, good things happen. This is a good thing, a very good thing. It’s a blend of several McLaren Vale vineyards made with largely traditional techniques and using a mix of predominantly seasoned French oak but with an important contribution of American oak and a little new French. It’s beautifully soft and supple but there is a chalky acidity and fine tannin structure providing definition and direction. Love the complementary characters of red and black fruits with the seductive perfumes of blueberry. Drink 2024-2034.

Rich and long yet light on its feet with a sophisticated Burgundian like finish.
The crown jewel in the Dalrymple collection, the Mt. Lord Vineyard is located on a small, angular and varied landscape that lays on the protected easterly slope of the Pontos Hills. The vineyard rows run up the hillside from 134m to 156m above sea level, precariously positioned between a rock ledge below and steep barren hillside above.
The fruit was handpicked with a small amount of the bunches placed directly into the ferment. Maturation took place in French oak barriques (30% new) for a period of 10 months.
Dark red core with black toned edges and a semi translucent red hue. Soaring through the nostrils is a complex array or red to dark cherry, strawberry, violet, rhubarb, dried herb and gentle clove aromatics. Bramble, forest floor and spice notes are also evident. Rich and long yet light on its feet, red to dark cherry, flashes of sour cherry, wild strawberry and rhubarb flavours are layered across the expansive palate. Spicy vanillin cedar, bramble, dried herb and forest floor elements lend further interest. Possessing a supple texture and peacocks tail like power wave, it has seamlessly integrated tannins and acidity with a long, sophisticated Burgundian like finish.

Deep-ish red with a tinge of purple and a bouquet of black cherry with traces of beetroot and Campari—perhaps from whole-bunch fermentation. The wine is full and generous, even opulent on the palate, with terrific power and density thanks to high extract and concentrated fruit. The tannins are abundant and supple, surrounding a deep core of rich flavour. Long and super-satisfying aftertaste. A seriously impressive pinot and a big step up from the previous vintage.

Mark Walpole loves sangiovese and the feeling is reciprocated. This is a mighty strong follow-up to the '23, fairly bristling in cherry-fruited and aromatic brightness and crunch in youth, with an underlying brooding quality that says, 'just wait.' A smidge (5%) of the Tuscan colorino red grape adds to the iridescence of the cherry red, bright hues. Aromas rise in wild raspberries, red cherries, plum, florals, cumin, fennel seed, red earth and spice. The palate is nicely weighted, with brisk acid crunch, and is both upbeat and alive in spiced cherry, red fruits and an underlying savouriness of Campari, dried herbs, licorice and mineral earthiness. Potential? You bet! Drink by 2033.

5% Colorino in the mix. Aged in large casks for 10 months. I recall I had this a few months ago (May25) at The Malaya (Sydney) which has a fine selection of wines, peppered with a liberal selection from local distributor AJ Wine Merchants.
Has plenty of Sangiovese character, with red cherry and strawberry, a little lemon zest and dried herb, almond, a nutty and rosy perfume. It’s medium-bodied, quite sappy and lively, a little grainy grip to tannin, juicy red fruits, again that lightly nutty thing, with a bright finish of good length. Excellent wine. A great food style too. Drink 2025-2032.

A dry, exotically flavoured white that has a zingy feel to it.
Although Malbec and Mendoza are the best known names in Argentine winemaking, Torrontés is taking centre stage a few hundred miles to the northwest, in the Cafayate region of Salta. It is believed that varietal was brought to the country by Spanish Jesuits in the 18th century.
Torrontés is found in the world’s highest vineyards, resting at 5,000 to 6,000 feet above sea level in Argentina. The high altitude growing conditions translate beautifully to bright floral aromas and delightfully crisp acidity in the wine.
Brilliant water like core with highlights of green around the edges. Aromas of pear, lychee and rosewater jump from the glass followed by a faint whiff of musk and some ginger notes. Mouth watering lychee, lime and pear fruits line the palate with infusions of rosewater and ginger also chiming in. Crunchy acidity with a dry exotic finish that has a zingy feel to it.

The first impression is of citrussy fruit; forward, juicy, inviting, delicious, all those things. But then the spice notes charge in. And those apricot kernel characters. And that tension between mineral and wood, and by wood I don’t mean oak, I just mean that there’s this deeper inside-the-trunk-of-the-vine note that is more than just pure juice. There’s an elegance to this wine, and an intensity, the latter of which sits right on the cusp of true richness, which is both a terribly difficult place to pitch a wine, and a terribly attractive one. A crushed fennel note added to the finish is yet more evidence that we have here a peak vintage of Clonakilla Viognier Nouveau. You need to slow down a fraction to get the best out of this wine but, that done, it provides exquisite pleasure. Drink 2025-2030.
