2021 Eden Hall Block 4 ShirazEden Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA$34. 99Bottle$419.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 6 Years (2024-2030)ABV: 14.5%Closure: StelvinEden Hall was established by David Hall, a well-respected spinal surgeon, and his wife Mardi when they purchased the Avon Brae property in 1996. They quickly set about re-establishing the vineyard and the first commercial release was in 2004. Today the property has over 80 acres under vine. Sourced from selected rows in Eden Hall’s Block 4 vineyard, the wine was matured for 22 months in French oak and spent more than a year in bottle prior to release. The talented Phil Lehmann was the winemaker of this large scaled 2021 Shiraz.
A powerhouse of dense, rich, voluptuous fruit.
Impenetrable inky black in colour with a very deep dark red black tinged hue. Wafting out of the glass are heady aromas of ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum which are married to toasty vanillin oak, dark chocolate, fennel and peppered earth notes. Rich, voluptuous and dense, the palate is a super concentrate of ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and black cherry fruits. Smoky vanillin oak, fennel and peppered earth elements also chime in to add further interest across the back half. Velvet smooth yet solidly structured tannins. Boasting magnificent power and depth it has an ultra-long finish that’s decadently rich and plush.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

2012 Edradour 12 Year Old Small Batch Bordeaux Wine Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$129. 99Bottle$1559.88 DozenABV: 48.2%Another diversion from the norm of sherry and bourbon matured malts that Edradour does so well. Apparently this was full-term matured in red wine casks, which is quite daring. Some say the taste is absolutely wine dominant, not sweet at all, though without the winey tannins you might expect. To sum up, "Very very winey Scotch, interesting." Labelled as a small batch release, so the outturn was probably around 1200 bottles. 48.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... N: Moderate lactic acidity, blackcurrant, oak nuances with tannins, subtle rosehip (with hints of rose fruit and citrus), dirty spices, a hint of earth. Rosa perfume. T: Fragrant blackcurrant, red berries, a hint of tannin, and a hint of pencil lead. Perhaps, as expected from a Bordeaux cask (I'm not sure what wine was used, but I'm guessing it's from the Médoc Left Bank, with a strong Cabernet Sauvignon note from Graves and Pauillac). This was due to the milky, silky texture, the prominent pencil lead, and the soft, tannin-like undertones that seemed to settle in the mid- and lower-bodied palate. The characteristic character and silky/milky texture of the Edradour Spirit were impressive. Additionally, the flavor revealed nuances of rose, mud, and a hint of spice. The bright, refreshing red berry character was also impressive. F: The finish was consistent and long. Even after adding water, the berry nuances remained, and the slippery oiliness and minerality-derived bitterness were impressive. The moderate tannins tingled the tongue, creating a pleasant balance with the spice. - whiskybase.com

Edradour Cream Liqueur (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$49. 99Bottle$599.88 DozenABV: 17%The Edradour Cream Liqueur has been specially formulated for the distillery using only the finest ingredients, which naturally include Edradour single malt whisky! Delicious on its own, in coffee or poured over ice cream (don't mix it with carbonated drinks). Refrigerate once opened as this is a milk product.
Notes from the producers... Nose: Creamy with malt expectancy. Palate: A satisfying touch of Edradour. Silky smooth and creamy with a distinct butterscotch, chocolate flavour. Finish: Mellow aftertaste with a hint of hazelnut. 17% Alc./Vol.
Various reports from visitors to the distillery include comments like, "As someone who’s not a fan of the likes of Baileys this is simply divine. Not heavy to drink and leaves a fantastic aftertaste too."

2014 El Dorado High Ester Blend PM / DHE Cask Strength Guyana Rum (750ml)GUYANA$299. 00Bottle$3588.00 DozenABV: 51.7%Following the series’ inaugural release in 2024 (La Bonne Intention / DHE) comes this single barrel blend of two pot still rums, PM (Port Mourant double wooden pot still ) & DHE (Diamond High Ester from a small John Dore double retort pot still), both aged for 10 years in second-fill Bourbon barrels. According to the company, their high ester rums are marked by intense fruity and floral notes, driven by the concentration of the aromatic compounds that define their signature character. The distillation process involves slow boiling and high reflux in the DHE still, which is said to help retain and extract the high concentration of ethyl acetate produced during the “funky fermentation” process. As a result, the rum achieves ester levels exceeding 1,500 grams per hectolitre.
Beyond the deep mahogany colour, the first thing you notice is the volatility of alcohol. Once the fumes recede the nose gives way to papaya, mango yogurt, ginger warmth and latent vanillas. If you like your rums intense, this comes with a potent, almost incendiary attack of succulent tropical fruits and bracing spices. As your mouth adjusts to the ABV it feels less aggressive.; flavours of ginger biscuits and dry molasses are evident, as is the Bourbon oak input, but overall it's true to the label, capturing a bittersweet fruit-bomb profile that repeatedly brings you back to those funky esters, reminiscent of banana bread and ripe papaya, especially as the finish gains definition after air contact. Not everyone can handle these very natural and exotic styles, but most would agree, they're rare to find, and deliver at least twice as much character than 99% of mainstream market rums. 51.7% Alc./Vol.
Notes from the producers... aromas of green apple, flambéed banana, and subtle notes of clove, cigar, and peat. On the palate, the fruit-forward style showcases notes of ripe tropical fruit, clove, and infused tobacco spice.

A blend of rums from the original Wooden Enmore Coffey still, the original metal Diamond Coffey still, as well as from the Port Mourant Double Wooden Pot Still. Bright burnished copper colour. Opens with rich aromas of roasted nuts, vanilla bean, cafe creme and raw sugar. A creamy entry is followed by a plush, intense, sticky date, creme caramel extravaganza with lively spices adding depth and vibrancy. Creamy vanilla, liquorice bullet finale. Concludes satisfying, warming, long. Luxe mixing rum at a budget price. 40% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Having written all the above, what would I recommend? Truth to tell, I’d use this as a high end mixer for sure, and if looking for a premium sipper, just go up to the 15, or blow a hundred for the 21. But as a general all rounder for a lower price, this one is hard to beat – it deserves a place on your shelf for all those visitors to your rooms or houses or apartments who want to try something a bit richer than Bacardi, Appleton V/X, Lamb’s or Mount Gay (those standard staples of the young), but don’t want to bust the bank doing it. - thelonecaner.com
Medium depth of gold. Super attractive nose packed with wonderful aromas of Demerara sugar, honey, toffee, raisin and sultanas. Wonderful balance of rich, ripe flavours and sweetness with rich spice and firm frame. After all the sweet characters there is a delightful, dry finish. Beautifully elegant rum. El Dorado 15 Year Old Rum (700ml)GUYANAReduced from $129.99$109. 99Bottle$1319.88 DozenABV: 43%Wow! No wonder this was rated the best rum in the world at the International Wine and Spirit Competition four years running: A superb expression. Easily one of the very best rum buys on our shelves.
El Dorado's somewhat quaint, maritime label belies what is a very sophisticated wood-aged spirit. A go-to rum for anyone in the know, this extra-aged blend which is at least 15 years old, (though some components are much older) delivers the kind of class and complexity you'd expect to pay much, much more for. The distillery combines the most up-to-date equipment with a wealth of traditional expertise, including old-style Demerara pot stills and patent rum and alcohol stills. The last fully operating rectangular wooden Coffey still in the Western world continues to be used for the production of the company's finest spirits. This is certainly one. Serve it to friends who haven't experienced 'good rum.' It sets a high bar and rarely fails to please.
Tasting note: Very deep copper penny colour. Momentary varnish blows off to reveal a stunning amalgam of dried banana and baking spice that's sweet yet fresh; brief exposure adds complexing notes of mango tart, pistachio nut, raisin cake and molasses. Immediately impresses with a superb, plush, silky entry and succulent flavours of grilled mango, moist banana cake and fresh molasses. Excellent sweet / dry balance. Aftertaste resonates with caramel / sticky date pudding, dilute golden syrup and late liquorice bullets in the fade. Super long. A salivating and utterly luxurious dark rum. [43% Alc./Vol. batch tasted]
Other reviews... Attractive, rich copper-amber hue. A complex nose of confectioner's sugar, banana, cedar, and iodine. A silky entry leads to a moderately full-bodied palate of vibrant-yet-refined dry caramel and grilled tropical fruit flavors braced by warm alcohol and firm, smooth oak spice. Somewhat Scotch-like, with subtle peaty overtones. Beautifully proportioned and designed for long contemplative sipping. Winner of "Best Spirit of 2001" Award. International Review of Spirits Award: Platinum Medal 96 points (Superlative) - tastings.com
...ups the age another three years, creating a spirit even darker in color and richer in flavor. Wood comes through stronger on this one, with mint and herb fading into the background. Again it’s the brown sugar body that impresses deeply, with a rich mouthfeel that makes this one easy to sip. The only false note is a touch of harshness on the palate as it first hits the tongue, but the finish is extremely smooth. - drinkhacker.com

2024 Elanto Vineyard ChardonnayMornington Peninsula, Victoria, AUSTRALIA$84. 99Bottle$1019.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 6 Years (2025-2031)ABV: 13.5%Closure: Diam CorkRich and enveloping with a long, expansive finish that displays a Burgundian like refinement.
Elanto Vineyard is fast becoming one of the most compelling projects on the Mornington Peninsula. Established in 2018 by Elizabeth and Tony Todaro with Sandro Mosele at the helm, the 10.6-hectare Balnarring site is planted at an extraordinary density over 11,000 vines per hectare, four times the regional norm. Yields are kept to just 300-500g per vine, resulting in small, concentrated bunches that carry the depth and power Sandro has long championed. Volcanic red soils, southeast exposure, and the cooling influence of Western Port Bay provide the setting, while meticulous organic farming and uncompromising vineyard detail push the wines into rare territory.
The three Chardonnay vineyards, Verge, Buckshot, and Seawinds, span 4 hectares on the lower slopes, where silt over clay transitions to lighter, gravelly soils rich in buckshot. The cool southerly airflow and soil profile preserve natural acidity and enhance mineral notes. Each vineyard was harvested and vinified separately, with hand-sorted fruit whole-bunch pressed directly into a mix of new and older French oak barriques for natural fermentation. After 10 months in barrel, the wine spent an additional two months in large concrete vats before bottling.
Brilliant pale straw colour with green highlights around the outskirts and a watery hue. Intense white peach, pear, ripe nectarine and dried honey aromas engulf the olfactory senses. Notions of crème brulee, citrusy nougat, cashew, subtle bacon fat and spice then chime in for additional complexity. Rich, concentrated and enveloping, a creamy textural feel is perfectly counterpointed by fresh acidity with mouthfilling white peach, fleshy pear and nectarine fruits melding into a creme brulee, citrusy nougat, delicate cashew and spice back drop. Boasting outstanding power and depth, it has a long expansive finish that displays a Burgundian like refinement.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

A terrific follow up to the inaugural release, coming out with more weight and body. Mid-straw gold and bright. Floral and waxy with lemon, spiced stone fruit, brown spices and honeycomb – lots within yet definitely in the savoury spectrum. Fuller bodied, rich, almost al dente with its phenolics and layers of texture via creamy, nutty lees. It’s detailed yet supple, with a succulence thanks to the all-important uplifting acidity. Moreish and compelling. Drink by 2034.

Jane Faulkner – James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionThe Elanto vineyard – at Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula – is 10.6 hectares of 11,111 vines each hectare, which equates to a vineyard made up of 117, 777 individual vines. This is the second release of a chardonnay from this remarkable vineyard. It’s made by Sandro Mosele. 85% of this release went through malo where very little of the 2023 release did.
This is seriously good. The intensity of fruit is the thing, and the associated length, though there’s a keen textural element and just plenty of wow factor besides. Yellow peach, citrus, nougat, honeycomb and lemon blossom notes charge thoughout. There’s a lot of fruit, a deal of acidity, and a sizeable serve of oak, but all work together and all feel commanding. Drink 2027-2032+

Volcanic red soils, southeast exposure, and the cooling influence of Western Port Bay provide the setting, while meticulous organic farming and uncompromising vineyard detail push the wines into rare territory.
The five Pinot Noir vineyards, Vertex, Ironstone, Chicory, Kilnside, and Basalt, span 6.7 hectares on the upper slopes with basalt-rich soils. The red volcanic soils transition to shallower, stonier terrain mid-slope, producing lower yields, concentrated flavors, and a distinct tannin profile. Each vineyard was harvested and vinified separately, with chilled, destemmed fruit (3-5% whole bunches) undergoing cold soak and natural fermentation in concrete vats. After 25-30 days on skins, the wine was pressed and aged in a mix of new and older French oak barriques for 11 months before blending and bottling.
Dark red core with black toned edges and a red to dark red hue. Perfumed aromas of violet, dark cherry, strawberry and anise soar from the glass trailed by some spicy cedar, forest floor, subtle dried herb and brambly rhubarb like notes. Rich, supplely textured dark cherry, strawberry and anise flavours expand across the palate with a peacock’s tail like power wave. Spicy cedar, rhubarb, forest floor, delicate infusions of dried herbs and bramble are spread across the back half. Seamlessly integrated, velvet smooth tannins and fresh underlying acidity. Finishes super seductive and very long.

What a beguiling wine – only the second release and showing complexity far beyond its years. It’s certainly youthful and pretty with heady aromas of florals and autumn leaves with flavours of wild strawberries, dark cherries and pips, chinotto, Middle Eastern spices and some poached rhubarb, too. The medium-bodied palate is evenly poised, laden with filigree tannins (lots of them) and energising acidity; oak (25% new) completely integrated. This has depth, some grip, a little amaro bitterness on the finish and, of utmost importance, it will age but it’s oh-so pleasing to drink today. Drink by 2036.

Jane Faulkner – James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionThe intensity of fruit here is fantastic, as is the length of the finish, as is the tannin profile. This wine is out of the ordinary on these matters alone. It tastes of stewed red and black cherries, peppercorns, cedar and undergrowth, the dry crackle of the finish – yet sluiced with fruit – one for the ages. The slightest degree of warmth is my only hesitation; in all other respects this is superb. Drink 2026-2033+

Campbell Mattinson – The Wine Front - Elixir Distillers The Macbeth Collection Servant Clynelish 14 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Highlands, SCOTLAND$299. 00Bottle$3588.00 DozenABV: 55.1%
"...a clear signature, unmistakably a Clynelish ...a very tasty bottling, in a more modern Clynelish way." - whiskybase.com
Of Scotland's hardest-to-find distilleries, Clynelish must be near the top of the list. We're lucky to see one or two independent releases a year, while the owners seem uninterested in expanding their repertoire beyond the official 14 year old. Enter Elixir Distillers' latest addition to Act Two of the Macbeth series, a collection of forty-two whiskies, each embodying a character from Shakespeare’s tragedy. Says Elixir's Oliver Chilton, "Clynelish is one of the most sought-after and revered malts, known for its unique waxy character. This particular whisky, fully matured in first-fill bourbon casks, fully embraces its supporting role, offering buttery toffee sweetness and beeswax texture, balanced by ground ginger and toasted vanilla. It is certainly a secondary character worth noting, as it rarely steps into the spotlight." Few distilleries illicit so much positive feedback - even from the most experienced malt lovers. Bottled at natural strength and presumably non-chill filtered (though not stated), this is your ticket to join the Clynelish cult. 1600 bottles are on offer globally. 55.1% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... "You get what you expect here. Clynelish is just as present as the first-fill bourbon casks. However, the distillate no longer delivers what you were used to from the pre-2000 vintages. The rich, waxy character has given way to somewhat lighter (more elegant or watery?) influences. Nevertheless, a very tasty bottling, in a more modern Clynelish way." - whiskybase.com
"A fresh, bright fruity and waxy whisky with a clear signature, unmistakably a Clynelish". - whiskybase.com
"Exceptional bottle. fruity waxy lovely. This is the first clynelish ive tried. and its just as good as many 20 years old bourbon cask from signatory or other independant bottlers." - whiskybase.com
More on the Collection... The Macbeth Series by Livingstone is a Scotch Whisky collection selected and bottled by Elixir distillers. This remarkable collection is presented with character notes by renowned whisky writer David Broom, and illustrations by one of Europe's most famous illustrators, Sir Quentin Blake. In a career spanning seven decades, Sir Quentin Blake has illustrated over 300 books including classic works by Roald Dahl such as The BFG, Matilda, and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. He rarely produces any commercial illustration and his work is highly collectable. The Servant is one of ten characterful whiskies in The Household series.

Evan Williams has released a vintage Bourbon (almost) every year since 1986. Thankfully, what began as a Kentucky exclusive is now more widely available. Even though the series has come down a bit in age, in our experience, these releases consistently deliver a surprisingly rich flavour profile at a relatively low proof. The vintage date on the bottle is representative of the year the bourbon was put into oak, with year-over-year vintages being released on an ongoing basis, each identified by handwritten specs on the back labels. Couple that with an affordable price tag, and you have a Bourbon that everyone should have on their shelf. 43.3% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... I’m glad this Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage isn’t just in Kentucky anymore. And while it may only be a one-time return to distribution, this 2015 vintage is a great bottle worth seeking out as your perfect warm up bottle to your next great whisky flight. It’s full of classic bourbon flavors, with lots of orange marmalade, oak, and that classic nutty Heaven Hill profile but with a low proof, remains and approachable whisky for all levels of drinker. It is missing some of the classic rye spice I was expecting and thus can drink soft and gentle more akin to a Makers Mark than other Heaven Hill expressions (like Elijah Craig)... this is a solid pour that delivers on the classic Evan Williams Single Barrel profile and reminds us that great deals can still be found from big name distilleries. - thewhiskystudy.com

Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey (700ml)Kentucky, UNITED STATESReduced from $94.99$79. 99Bottle$959.88 DozenABV: 45%The Four Roses distillery is located in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky on the banks of the Salt River in Anderson County. The distillery has a unique Spanish Mission-style architecture rarely seen in Kentucky and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The company attributes their products quality to several factors: A unique Limestone water source, the spring-fed Salt River; a high quality grain source (Four Roses are the only distillery using the same grain source for 45 years, paying a premium for quality); Two Mash Bills in daily production - one mash bill contains significantly more rye than any other Bourbon, resulting in a spicy, full-bodied taste; and five proprietary yeast strains, each producing uniquely different flavours.
Tasting note: Polished brass gold. Aromas of lamington cake and cherry ripe interchange with peppermint and drying oak as damp cedar wood enters. Lots of American oak input in the mouth: anise infused honey, cocoa and cherry ripe. A splash of minty-rye to finish. Rounds off finely tannic/peppery with hints of Turkish Delight and caramel fudge in the aftertaste. Youthful, but surprises with its complexity. Solid value if you're looking for a rye-heavy Bourbon. 45% Alc./Vol.

2024 Freycinet Vineyard RieslingTasmania, AUSTRALIA$29. 99Bottle$359.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 8 Years (2024-2032)ABV: 12.5%Closure: StelvinEstablished in 1979 by Geoff and Susan Bull, Freycinet was the first commercial winery on the East Coast of Tasmania. Today daughter Lindy and partner Claudio Radenti who both have extensive winemaking experience from their travels around the world carry on the tradition. 2024 was a standout vintage delivering fruit of exceptional quality with concentrated flavours and ripe, juicy acidity.
A magnificently sculptured and pure Tassie Riesling that boasts explosive power and intensity
Brilliant water like colour with a distinctive glimmer of green around the outskirts. Leaping out of the glass are powerful aromatics of lime, lemon and Granny Smith apple followed by some hints of orange rind, talc and chalky mineral notes. The palate is a combination of terrific intensity, drive and tension delivering sculptured, yet texturally engulfing flavours of lime, lemon and orange rind underpinned by mouth watering acidity. Lining the back half are green apple, chalky talc, wet steel and flinty mineral characters. Zingy in its feel it finishes exceptionally long, concentrated and super scrumptious.
Hard to resist now but will also cellar up to 6-8 years.

Other Reviews.....
A taut, high-tensile East Coast riesling that's all velocity and lip-smackingly pure lime and lemon fruits with hints of sea spray, crushed stone, lemongrass, grapefruit pith, citrus blossom and thirst-slaking good times. It's got a wicked minerally cadence as it cuts across the palate; a touch of clover blossom in there, too, if we're getting picky. But we're not getting picky and this is just a delicious, focused Tassie riesling. Drink by 2034.

2022 Glaetzer Bishop ShirazBarossa Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA$29. 99Bottle$359.88 DozenCellar: 6 - 8 Years (2031-2033)ABV: 14.5%Closure: StelvinThe distinctive labels of the Glaetzer portfolio hold special significance when you view this stunning collection of wines as a family affair. The entry level Bishop Shiraz is named in honour of Ben's mother, Judith (Bishop being her maiden name). The label bears the sign of Venus, which has come to represent women and feminine energy. Glaetzer sources fruit for the Bishop from the Ebenezer district of the Barossa valley from low yielding 35 year old to 120 year-old vines. He finds the fruit from younger vines contributes freshness & vibrancy, while Shiraz from the older blocks provides structure and depth. Maturation took place in 100% French oak for a period of 16 months of which 40% was new oak.
A superb union of richness, power, structure and energy.
Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Wafting through the nostrils are blackberry, liquorice and dark plum aromatics followed by some crushed blackpepper, subtle fennel, vanillin cedar and faint graphite like notes. Rich and opulent yet possessing great definition, the full bodied palate is awash with concentrated blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits which are framed by fine grained tannins that have a muscular edge. Superb depth & length with spicy vanillin cedar, fennel and peppered earth elements also chiming in. Showing an abundance of power and an energetic vibrancy, it has a long, structured yet slightly tense finish. Give this a few more years to settle in and it should turn into something special.

2022 Glaetzer Amon-Ra ShirazBarossa Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA$89. 99Bottle$1079.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 15 Years (2025-2040)ABV: 15%Closure: CorkA towering Shiraz that offers a remarkable combination of freshness, power and rich plush fruit.
Amon Ra is Ben Glaetzer’s flagship Shiraz named after an Egyptian God who was considered to be the King of all Gods. According to Ben Glaetzer the key to Amon Ra Shiraz is balancing the fruit and tannin extraction rather the maximising it – “the fruit has such expression that we aim to preserve the characteristics of the vineyard rather than dominate them.” Fruit was sourced from a range of vineyards, aged between 50-130 years old, with a strong emphasis on fruit quality, rather than simply selecting parcels of fruit because they were from old vines. The wine was matured for 16 months in 100% new oak of which 5% was American and 95% French. It was bottled unfiltered.
Impenetrable inky black heart with an equally deep dark red black hue. Freshly crushed ripe blackberry, dark plum and liquorice aromas soar out of the glass trailed by spicy vanillin oak, hints of ripe blueberry, subtle earthy mocha and faint peppered fennel notes. Rich, powerful and incredibly intense, the full bodied palate is tightly packed with opulent blackberry, dark plum, liquorice and ripe blueberry fruits. Monumental in its stature it has a firm yet beautifully integrated tannin framework. Spicy vanillin oak, traces of mocha, earth and peppered fennel elements lurk beneath. Plush yet remarkably fresh it has an explosive finish that seemingly never ends.
Drink over the next 10-15 years.

This seriously classy 2022 Amon-Ra is seamless and beautifully pitched with focus and refinement. Yet, it delivers powerful aromas of black licorice, fennel seed, and a core of blackberries dusted with star anise enriched by sweet, balanced oak. Impressive energy with a streamlined shape comes forward before building layers of sweet and savory tones. Chewy, fine tannins punctuate a finish of exceptional length. A stunning young wine that will build in bottle. Drink 2028 - 2045.

Angus Hughson - VinousI feel that Ben Glaetzer's Amon-Ra is one of the flag bearers for contemporary Barossan shiraz, certainly when it comes to the more powerful, weighty styles. It has a sense of compression. Wildly concentrated black fruits and palate heft, yet it displays freshness and form; supple, lithe and possessed of northern subregional power writ large. There's an imperious tannin structure but the fruit just sucks it all up and charges on. One for the sybaritic indulger of Barossan wine. It's a ripper. Drink by 2043.

Dave Brookes - James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionThe 2022 Amon-Ra Shiraz speaks so clearly of the Glaetzer house style: that is to say, sleek, polished, powerful, seamless and fruit-driven. These are wines that speak of the Barossa in their earthy splay of pliable tannin, but they have a vibrance to the fruit that is most attractive. So, while these wines harness the place—this wine could hardly be from anywhere else—they do it in a restrained kind of way. Not that you could call this 2022 Amon-Ra Shiraz "restrained" and get away with it. More to comment on the fact that Barossa is yoked and controlled in this wine. I like it a lot. There are notes of dark chocolate, black cherries, raspberry pastille and even pomegranate molasses, alongside sweet paprika, ironstone and red earth, roasted meat and a throw of tapenade. This is really good. 15% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2024-2037.

Erin Larkin - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
A wine that speaks with passion about its Barossa heritage. Generously full-flavoured with masses of concentrated dark fruit delivered with layered richness. The small crop from a reasonably challenging vintage produced fruit with the concentration and balance to create a wine like this. It’s opulent, yes, but there is an effortless stylishness that elevates it into another zone. Licorice and blackberry notes with plush dark plum and a lift of spice all play their roles. Fine chalky tannins and plenty of balanced oak add the final touch to a very good wine with staying power. Drink 2025-2050.

Glenallachie 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLANDReduced from $179.99$149. 99Bottle$1799.88 DozenABV: 46%Billy Walker's attempt to create "the essence of Speyside" is realised in this heavily sherried expression. The first batch quickly sold out in the UK. The current version features a packaging update that debuted around 2024. All the barrels were sourced from Miguel Martin. Slightly more than half were PX puncheons and butts with the remainder being ex Oloroso. There's also a small addition of 200 litre medium toast virgin oak in the mix, plus some red wine casks. The result is another whisky where the appearance alone will get your appetite going, especially if you're into sherried malts. It pours a fabulous, deep polished mahogany colour and follows through with aromas of orange zest, raisin cake and fruit’n'nut dark chocolate while offering a decent attack at just 46%. Revealing more zesty freshness, gingery warmth and less of the over-the-top opulence of many recent Glenallachies, the flavour ledger tilts towards oloroso here with an almost tart, peel character competing with the PX. Dates, raisins, roasted nuts and an interesting twist of liquorice carry the aftertaste. All up, a solid sherried addition to the distillery’s ever-expanding stable that fares best after 5-10 minutes air contact. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... Lashed with rich sherry aromas of baked orange, cherry, currants, chopped peel, ground cinnamon, and cocoa powder; it’s rich and intense, and pulsing with bold sherry cask character. Dark chocolate and Seville orange marmalade kick off the palate, with Nutella, black pepper, oak, cola, sultana, and some ground coffee flavors. A warming finish with dark chocolate and citrus notes. 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com
...almost five years after it was first introduced, it can certainly compete with comparable single malts – such as the Tamdhu 15 Years, or the aforementioned GlenDronach 15... It's not subtle, but occasionally that's okay. I wouldn't soon call the GlenAllachie 15 Years an easy sipper. No, it's too intense for that. But sometimes intense is good. In moderation. As always. - wordsofwhisky.com
Notes from the producers... NOSE: Overflowing with raisins, butterscotch and sweet spices. TASTE: The rainbow of sweet spices, raisins and butterscotch develops to banana, orange peel and dark chocolate.

Glenallachie have done it again! The 12 Year Old has won the award for World's Best Single Malt at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards, an honour it previously received in 2021 for Batch #4 of its 10 year old Cask Strength release. Billy Walker considers the 12 year old to be the heart of the core range with some of the very best virgin oak, Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenez casks selected. It is slightly less robust than the ten year old, though just as deeply coloured and easily one of the more flavour-packed 12 year olds going around, opening with notes of chocolate box and Turkish delight followed by a medley of dried fruits, cocoa, clove, honey and vanilla, plus no shortage of concentration on the palate; A saturate of dried fruits and spices, orange oils, citrus blossom, chocolate box and dried apricots combine with fine astringency for excellent sweet-dry balance. Overall, fresher, and with a little more 'breed' than the brawny 10. If you enjoy exuberant sherried styles, then this will be right up your alley. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... "A nose of rich sultanas, flapjacks, and milk chocolate, alongside acetone notes. On the palate, dried apple, gourmet chutney, orange zest, nutmeg, and cinnamon emerge, complemented by vanilla custard. The finish is medium-long, oily, and slightly warm, making for a very enjoyable dram." - World Whisky Awards 2025
This core expression offers aromas of raspberry jam, baked orange, plum, peppercorn, dry autumn leaves, and a hint of leather, making it an attractive prospect among the various 12 year old sherried Speyside single malt options around. Medium-bodied and juicy, with summer red berries, baked orange, vanilla, ripe cherry, marmalade, and gentle peppery spices, the flavors round off with aniseed, strawberry, and cherry lip balm. 90 points - whiskyadvocate.com
...This is from one of Billy Walker's batches, but there already appears to have been quite a few of them and I couldn't tell you which one this is. Most seem to mention a mixture of Oloroso, PX and virgin oak. Colour: amber - surprisingly dark. Nose: very nice, rather classical on fudge, Dundee cake, shoe polish, mixed peppercorns and a slightly sticky jammy quality - sticky dark fruits I suppose. Feels like quite a sherry-dominated batch. Mouth: some active oak, but also rather a lot of dark grained breads, stout beers, molasses, dates, treacle cake and walnuts. Herbal bitters too, along with some strong fresh black coffee and bitter chocolate. Bish bash bosh! Finish: medium, quite bready, dark and savoury. Umami paste, forest mushrooms and leathery notes. Comments: the oak is there, draping everything in perhaps a notch too much spice, but there's many gooey sherried treats to enjoy underneath. Not sure all batches have been up to this spec though. 85 points - whiskyfun.com
- Glenfarclas 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - Gift Pack with 2 GlassesSpeyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND$169. 99Bottle$2039.88 DozenABV: 46%
Comes with two Glenfarclas branded Glencairn whisky glasses.
Famous as one of Speyside’s most masculine whiskies, Glenfarclas 15 is matured in 60% x-Sherry casks, with the remainder x-Bourbon, but with a difference. The latter barrels are shaved back in order to minimise their flavour input, putting the focus almost completely on the sherry. Bottled at 46%, the result is one of most full-bodied in the Glenfarclas stable. It's also one that tasters tend to notice the most batch variation in. Re-tasted in early 2022, the latest bottling takes some time to develop and blow off minor sulphur blemishes. Aromas pick up speed, echoed in attractively sherried flavours of raisin cake, fruit mince pie and digestif biscuits. The finish adds suggestions of pickled ginger and baking spices. Though not long, the flavours are surprisingly intense, well-proportioned and approachable without dilution. Give a freshly opened bottle thirty minutes to begin to show its best. 46% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... Some classic sherried Speysider that everyone should have tried. WF 84 last time I had, but that was in… 2006 (feeling shame here at WF Towers). Colour: gold. Nose: not that different from the 10, just cake-ier, more sherried, and rather more complex, with small herbs, a mossy side, and a large chocolate cake. Touches of yeasty porridge in the background. Fresh pumpernickel bread. Mouth: really very cake-y, malty, with raisins and some very lovely touches of spearmint. I’m also finding a delicate wood smoke, as well as the usual walnuts when we’re having a sherried malt such as this one. Goody good. Finish: rather long, and shall I dare mention Christmas cakes? And yet it’s not heavy. Comments: I just couldn’t tell you which one I like best, between the 10 and the 15. Both are top class in their categories. 46% Alc.Vol. 84 points - whiskyfun.com
...Energetic, heady, rich. Wakes up the palate and demands to be heard. - Glenfarclas 105 16 Year Old Special Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND$299. 00Bottle$3588.00 DozenABV: 60%
In 1968, Chairman George S Grant (4th generation) selected and bottled a cask at natural strength for family and friends as a Christmas gift. The liquid was 105 British proof which is equivalent to 60% alcohol by volume. The high strength whisky was so popular that George continued to bottle Glenfarclas at 105 proof making it one of the first official releases of cask strength Scotch whisky in the world. So the Glenfarclas 105 was born! In 2023, the new management sought to up the ante with a proper age statement at this potent ABV with a very limited bottling of 16-year-old curated by Distillery Manager, Callum Fraser and Managing Director, Douglas Belford. Embodying the full bodied Glenfarclas style, it's reported that this is limited to around 5000 bottles globally.
Notes from the producers... Colour: Rich copper. Nose: Instant notes of soft butterscotch, vanilla essence, and exquisite bold spices. Taste: Deeply complex flavours with stewed berry fruits, melted butter toffee combined with freshly baked almond biscuits. Finish: A velvet finish with lingering notes of subtle sherry and tantalising dark chocolate that leaves you wanting more.

If you ever wondered what the fuss over Glenfarclas' Family casks was all about but couldn't afford to find out, don't hesitate to start here. As much as we'd like to imagine that this whisky will be enjoyed amongst friends, it has all the hallmarks of a collectable: a tiny outturn from a distillery with pedigree, first-rate liquid and a bespoke label. You might drink one and try to keep the other, but our bet is the second bottle is going to prove too tempting. In fact, you could not do much better from any of the distillery's neighbours at this age: Cask #51 buries young Macallan or Glendronach and is almost dripping with sherry, kicking off with juicy dried apricots, dried prunes, raisin cake and cinnamon over hints of chocolate oranges in a caramel setting, wrapped up in a mid palate succulence that's pure and sustained while showing extraordinary balance and mouthfeel. The malt and sherry sweetness gently bitters as the sugars wear off and spices enter. Add water, and the entire profile remains beautifully defined. It's young Speyside malt showing off in an audacious fashion that sets it apart from Glenfarclas' official releases. Distilled in 2014 and filled into a first-fill Sherry hogshead before decanting in November 2022, 160 bottles are available for those fortunate enough to get their hands on one. Anybody who knows about 'AREA 51' from UFO folklore will understand the cryptic label reference - an alien is jealously guarding a cask (word has got around, Glenfarclas make some of the best whisky in the galaxy!) 59.8% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

With the Edrington group having priced extra-aged Macallans well beyond the reach of the average wallet, (pay $4000+ for the 25YO) Sherry enthusiasts searching for that something special have few options left. Enter Glenfarclas: When you buy a bottle of this you support one of Scotland's only independent family-owned distilleries.Quarter-century aged Scotch is not getting cheaper. Arran, Dalwhinnie, Glenfiddich, Highland Park, Old Pulteney, Laphroaig, Talisker, Caol Ila, Glenrothes and Glengoyne currently have an average retail price of close to $700. Add Macallan, Lagavulin, Springbank and Ardbeg to the mix and the average jumps up to around $1200! It's inevitable that the price for 25 year old single malt Scotch will settle somewhere between these two values. (Even Single Grains and Blends with similar age statements are becoming less and less accessible).
Tasting note: Bright gold with a pale straw hue. Some real class and depth to the nose which offers powerful aromas of prune, roasted nuts, honey and freshly polished floorboards. Smells expensive. Mouthfilling, and with an unexpected degree of 'tingle' for whisky of this age. Glorious at mid palate, serving up delicious honey and dried fruit flavours over rich, spicy, sugar-laced malt. Medium long with a delicate aftertaste of dried fruit and sweet leather. Aristocratic. Would make a perfect after dinner malt. Some tasters drew comparisons with Macallan 18. 43% Alc./Vol.

A large format Glenfarclas that delivers quaffing excellence, reflecting the philosophy of distillery manager, John Grant: "Whisky is for drinking!" Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLANDReduced from $174.99$129. 99Bottle$1559.88 DozenABV: 60%Cask strength whiskies have not always been available to the general public. In fact, the very idea was incidental, and only materialised in 1968 when a fourth generation member of the Grant family bottled a single cask straight from the warehouse, and sent the bottles to family and friends as Christmas gifts. George S. Grant created a simple, hand written label for the bottles noting only the name of the distillery and the strength of the whisky (which happened to be 105 British Proof.) By the end of January the recipients requested further bottles. George obliged, and since then, Glenfarclas 105 has gone onto become one of the most highly sought after expressions in the Glenfarclas range.
The increasing popularity of cask strength single malts comes as no surprise. They provide an opportunity to taste whisky in its purest and most natural form without visiting a distillery, and conversely, to dilute to your preferred strength rather than the bottler's. Typically, they have minimal or zero filtration which tends to retain more flavour and texture. One has to take the good with the bad. Extreme alcohol can be prickly, and can even anaesthetise the mouth resulting in a less pleasurable experience. A high tax/alcohol ratio also means such spirits can be excessively pricey. If there was a holy grail of malt, then for many it would be the discovery of affordable cask strength whisky that's also achieved balance - to the degree that you can enjoy it undiluted. This is one. There are 'softer' cask strength releases on the market, but rarely in this style.
Tasting note: Beautiful polished brass / amber gold. Opening pass detects toffee apple, polished leather and juicy, grapey malt. Second pass finds marzipan and toasted oats followed by crunchie bar and intense vanilla. The aromatic range is matched on the palate, delivering a concentrated, medium dry, peppery attack with a delicious interplay between sugar, tannin and spice. Bracing yet balanced. Finishes with flashes of dates, creme-caramel and crunchie bar before drying with oatmeal biscuit, toffee apple and dappled explosions of sweet spice. Those who religiously follow Aberlour's Abunadh will discover similar thrills here. Tremendous whisky. 60% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... long, luxurious, with a pulsing vanilla grape mix and a build up of spices; light oils intensify and elongate. I doubt if any restorative on the planet works quite as well as this one does. Or if any sherry cask whisky is so clean and full of the joys of Jerez. A classic malt which has upped a gear or two and has become exactly what it is: a whisky of pure brilliance. 95.5 points
- Jim Murrays Whisky Bible 2014...This Scotch is named for the proof (105) of a bottle that Chairman John Grant’s father, George S. Grant, bottled in 1968 as a Christmas gift for family and friends. Nut-colored, it has a markedly bold toffee aroma and lots of flavor and drama. Hazelnut, espresso and cocoa flavors linger, with hints of allspice and drying oak tannins. Though it needs more than a splash of water to arrive at a nuanced sippability, don’t hold that against this almost Bourbon-like beauty. 95 points - wineenthusiast.com
...Sweet scents of Boston cream pie, citrus, and fresh forest, growing more fragrant as the liquid rests in the glass. On the palate, the citrus sweetens to baked orange tart and lemon meringue pie, with underpinnings of chocolate malt, raisins, and pepper spice. Water enhances things, bringing out more spice and chocolate. 93 points - whiskyadvocate.com, reviewed by: David Fleming 2021
...I'm really following these seminal NASses, the 104-then-105, but last time I tried it that was in 2017 (WF 86). Colour: light gold. Didn't the 105 lose some colour over time? Nose: I seem to remember quite some sherry used to be involved, but this time we're rather on malty and leafy stuff, fruit peelings, honey-glazed vegetable (try that, eggplants, turnips…) and beers. With water: beers, bitters, roasted nuts, pumpernickel. The blackest, moistest breads. Mouth (neat): I find this extremely good, if a little brutal, which was the whole point anyway. Huge maltiness, roasted nuts, concentrated syrups, artichokes and Brussels sprouts, stout… With water: takes water extremely well, it is ready for the 100 metres freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics. Excellent sweeter maltiness, barley syrup... Finish: rather long, perhaps a tad sweet(ish) but all these breads and grains can't be wrong. Comments: gold medal! What a drop, this 105, one day post-Covid we'll go to the distillery and do the largest verticale of 104-105s that's ever been done. For example, this one was maltier, and less sweet than a 2017 batch.

Along with Number 4, Vat 03 in Glenfiddich's Travel Retail Perpetual Collection is arguably the more appealing for drinkers, partly because of its age statement and partly because it lands at a higher ABV than numbers one and two. Also created via a Solera vat process which adds continuous layers of flavour by only ever bottling half the whisky in the vats before refilling, this edition was matured in x-sherry European oak and x Bourbon casks. Tasted straight, Vat 03 delivers vibrant orchard fruits and vanillan oak giving the sensation of fruit yoghurt, or perhaps the whisky equivalent of peaches and cream. Adding ice or water instantly emphasises the zero chill filtration, ramping up the juicy, malty mouthfeel and providing a finishing lick of vanilla, baking spice and hints of marzipan. Aimed at showcasing 'Fiddich's signature style, Vat 03 is predictably true to the malt they churn out in large volumes - and for good reason - it’s proved hugely popular and is incredibly accessible, only here there’s more of everything, which means extra bang for your buck. Nose: feels bourbony at first, with even a little putty and light varnish, as well as marzipan, before it would become all a matter of apples (and a few pears), something that I've always found epitomically Glenfiddichian. Fresh, stewed, a juice, as compote, even as jam, even as eau-de-vie (some varietals do work, others remain bland). With water: the largest bag of ripe and overripe apples ever, plus a little maraschino and marzipan. Mouth (neat): really sweet. Apple compote with some honey and a cinnamon/nutmeg spice combo. Feels a touch fizzy, like good cider. No problems. With water: water brings a soapiness onto the palate (saponification), a soapiness that takes its time before it would leave us alone. The good news is that after around ten minutes, we're left with more wonderful apples and rather notes of Turkish delights. Finish: long, on apples, marzipan and amaretti. And perhaps an ultra-tiny soapiness remaining in a corner (nope, haven't changed water). Pears in the aftertaste, which makes it even more Glenfiddichian. Comments: very good cuvée but be careful with water. 84 points - whiskyfun.com
Notes from the producers... Nose: Intriguingly complex aroma with sweet heather honey and vanilla fudge combined with rich dark fruits. Taste: Silky smooth revealing layers of sherry oak, marzipan, cinnamon and ginger. Full bodied and bursting with flavour. Finish: Satisfyingly rich with lingering sweetness.

Glenfiddich Perpetual Collection Vat 01 Single Malt Scotch Whisky (1000ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLANDReduced from $159.99$124. 99Bottle$1499.88 DozenABV: 40%The Perpetual series was unveiled in mid 2022 as travel retail exclusives. Four whiskies showing off the distillery’s signature solera vat maturation process make up the range. The vat system never runs dry. Instead, a portion is removed and the remainder is topped up with fresh liquid. This allows the latest batch to take on some characteristics of the older product. The process originated from Spanish sherry production, which Glenfiddich’s fifth Malt Master, David Stewart adapted in 1998 to produce their core 15-year-old single malt. According to him, it allows whisky from different casks to better integrate. Only half the whisky in Glenfiddich’s large solera vats is bottled at any one time.
Of the four malts in the Perpetual Collection, the most easily approached is Vat 01, a combination of Bourbon and wine cask-matured whiskies that's sweet, soft, and smooth. Glenfiddich have honed the style over the decades and in this bottling, they've perfected the art of delivering a 40% abv whisky with character or depth. Admittedly, its predictable fusion of creamy, biscuity malt and subtle nashi pear fruitiness resembles many other Glenfiddichs, but when you just want a decent dram at a fair price, consistency and reliability is often a big part of the equation. Incentivise further with a one-litre format and you have an easy buying decision.
Aged in Spanish sherry casks, Vat 02 presents a more complex and luscious character. Both have no age statements. The 15-year-old Vat 03 showcases Glenfiddich’s signature style. Matured in European oak sherry and Bourbon casks, it's silky and full-bodied delivering warm notes of spice, nutty marzipan, and dried figs. The final in the series is also deemed the most extravagant. Vat 04 is treated in oloroso sherry and Bourbon casks for 18 years for a deeper profile.
Notes from the producers... Beautifully fragrant and floral. Summer blossom notes with hints of creamy vanilla toffee and subtle oakiness. A touch of zesty citrus in the background. TASTE: Very soft and mellow with a lovely balance of oak and the trademark Glenfiddich character. Layers of sweetness and spice with hints of freshly ground pepper. FINISH: Delicate and smooth.

Glenfiddich Reserva Rum Cask Finish 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLAND$330. 00Bottle$3960.00 DozenABV: 40%Glenfiddich resurrects the lost tradition of maturing whisky in rum casks with this Glenfiddich 21 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky. Rum distillers from Sancti Spiritus, near the Sierra del Escambray in the heart of Cuba, worked to develop this unique Cuban rum finish. Casks of Cuban rum are decanted at the distillery in Scotland and then filled with 21 Year Old Glenfiddich to absorb the unique character lingering in the wood. The result is an unmistakable expression revealed through a new and vibrant overtone.
Other reviews... Rich, sweet, and fruity with baked apples drizzled in honey, crisp white pear, honeysuckle, dried banana, vanilla fudge, and pecan pie. This works so well with the nascent Glenfiddich spirit; lime zest, vanilla, foamy meringue, honey blossom sweetness, and pepper transitioning to lime shred marmalade, soft oak, and a dry spicy finish. Vibrant, stimulating, sophisticated, and so well balanced that it never risks becoming overly sweet. 93 points - whiskyadvocate.com
...Nose: Toasty. Biscuity. Petits fours. Palate: Vanilla flan. Sweet Cuban coffee.Finish: Juicy. A hint of dried tropical fruits. The less pronounced rum character of the two Caribbean accented whiskies in this tasting. When you cook, do you want the herbs and spices to announce themselves individually, or to be part of the blend of flavours? David Stewart seems usually to opt for the latter, and does so with great deftness and sophistication. - Michael Jackson, whiskymag.com

Glenfiddich 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLANDReduced from $189.99$149. 99Bottle$1799.88 DozenABV: 40%Note: New blue packaging, not old brown packaging.
While the twelve year old is a relatively non-descript malt, older Glenfiddich bottlings are now gaining high praise including one award as the world's best single malt Scotch whisky. However, as a representation of the house style, the 18 year old pretty much nails it. Always a centre-piece of the portfolio, the company has further emphasised its place by redesigning the packaging to give it a more superior look than its 12- and 15-year-old stablemates. Aged in a mixture of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks followed by a final spell of marrying in wooden tuns, the moderate aromas of distant smoke, honey, clove and vanilla-laced malt echo on the palate alongside hints of dried apricots and spice, augmented by the softest peat. Plush and silky with more dried fruit and spice to finish, it's is a clear step up from the 12yo - both richer and rounder while remaining in the mainstream of sherry influenced malts. 40% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... the smoke which for long marked this aroma, appears to have vanished...one of the most complex deliveries Speyside can conjure....long, despite the miserly 40% offered, with plenty of banana custard and a touch of pear; at the moment, the ace in the Glenfiddich pack. - Glengyle Distillery Kilkerran 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - 2024 BottlingCampbeltown, SCOTLAND$149. 99Bottle$1799.88 DozenABV: 46%
The Kilkerran brand has been described as "Springbank's big middle finger to the SWA" for trying to screw them out of a regional designation. In 1998 the Scotch Whisky Association decided to cease referring to Campbeltown as a whisky region. Two distilleries (Springbank & Glen Scotia) simply weren't enough. Prompted to restore the Peninsula's reputation, Hedley Wright, the owner of Springbank envisioned Glengyle as a project to cement Campbeltown as a region proper, rather than just an extension of the Lowlands. Its whiskies are now on just about every malt maniacs short list. Many who were lucky enough to be acquainted with Springbank's output a decade or so ago appreciate that Kilkerran is essentially a slightly less peated version of the same malt - for less dollars. The same distillery team run both operations. There is a slight difference in the production process but the upshot is a lightly peated West Highlander with fresh citrus notes and an oiliness on the palate, plus a little briney, coastal character. Because its profile clocks the range of flavours found in single malt Scotch, it is in many ways quintessential. The 12 year old is the perfect introduction. The 2024 edition was matured in 70% Bourbon and 30% Sherry casks and bottled at their standard strength of 46% without chill filtration. Experience has shown that the best time to buy it is at the start of each allocation cycle while the opening prices hold. Global demand for this distillery is already catching up with Springbank.
Notes from the producers... Initially zesty with citrus notes of lemon cheesecake and an oiliness typical of a Campbeltown whisky. Peat smoke, leather bound books and peppery, spicy notes develop over time, along with sweet sticky toffee pudding. The peat smoke carries through to the finish in campfire embers, with sweet hints of pecan pie and butterscotch.

Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLANDReduced from $169.99$119. 99Bottle$1439.88 DozenABV: 40%"...having been steered on a slightly different course again it is just excellent... An expression that has evolved slowly, but quite beautifully." - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2023
The French Oak Reserve is generally considered one of the better values in the Glenlivet stable. Jim Murray certainly thinks so, giving this mid-range malt a strong recommendation - and he's not the only one. The distillery was one of Scotland's first to employ French oak for ageing whisky. Specifically, Limousin oak, sourced from France’s Dordogne region, the only French forest that is predominantly Quercus Robur. The toughness and coarse (open) grain of the species is a result of nutrient-deficient soils, restricting vertical growth to shorter, wider trunks. It places Limousin oak at one end of the scale in terms of looseness of grain. A consequence is that the release of flavours is aggressive and more oak tannin is extracted than from other oak types, hence, it's used almost exclusively for the maturation of spirits like Cognac rather than wine. In the case of Glenlivet, the whisky is selectively finished in Limousin oak so as not to overpower the fruitiness of the distillate. The wood's low density allows the spirit to cycle deeply in and out of the staves, adding a distinctive and pleasing spiciness that's different to the vanilla-heavy American oak. Bottled at 40%, Glenlivet's French Oak Reserve is not a heavy malt, but at the right price, you do get a terrific everyday drinker.
Other reviews… Many years ago when this first came out it wasn't very good, to be honest. Then it was re-shaped, upped a gear and became a very enjoyable dram, indeed. Now having been steered on a slightly different course again it is just excellent... An expression that has evolved slowly, but quite beautifully. 93 points - Jim Murrays Whisky Bible 2023
...Antique amber color. This whisky maintains the elegance cherished by Glenlivet enthusiasts, but finishing the whisky in limousin oak produces a whisky of deeper wood notes, particularly wood spices (vanilla, sandalwood, perhaps even mint) and floral notes. It's rich, complex, and dry-especially on the finish. 90 points - whiskyadvocate.com
First whiffs pick up scents of fresh pineapple, cedar, and paraffin; later sniffings detect subtle notes of baked pear and sweet oak. Palate entry features a firm, moderately oily, and velvety texture; by midpalate, integrated flavors of ripe peach, pear drops and bran delight the taste buds. Glenrothes Whisky Makers Cut Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)Speyside, Highlands, SCOTLANDReduced from $139.99$109. 99Bottle$1319.88 DozenABV: 48.8%"...unspoiled Sherry casks at work. An absolute must for Sherry lovers." - Jim Murrays Whisky Bible 2020
Glenrothes’ owners The Edrington Group are instigating some significant changes at the distillery. An upgrade is scheduled in the coming years and the marketing emphasis has already taken a dramatic shift towards 'ultra premium' bottlings. The ten and twelve-year-olds as well as the Whisky Maker's Cut are all discontinued, at least in Australia, with the range now starting at 18 years. However alternative reports suggest they’ve stopped making them altogether, which is supported by the fact that these products are now archived on the Glenrothes website and listed as sold out at major UK retailers. Whatever the case, knowing the strong following for this distillery, we’ve bought up big and negotiated Australia’s best deals. Opportunity knocks!
In and out of the country over the last few years and at variable pricing, the Whisky Maker's Cut was originally exclusive to an Australian Whisky Club where it sold for $125; elsewhere it's been selling for up to AU$140. We've secured an even better price again with a scoop buy on the last domestic stocks. Matured in first-fill sherry casks, bottled at the Master Distiller's preferred strength and rated 95 points by Jim Murray, this will attract drinkers more than collectors. The aroma wavers to and fro from sweeter notes of fresh prunes, dried apricots and candied orange peel to drier scents of leather handbag, cocoa and light prickles of alcohol. Early oak and baking spice flavours develop before dates and wisps of vanilla. Extra kick from the higher strength adds depth, especially with the spike of intensity at the finish. The final stages turn leaner and spicier, but the balance is good. In short, plenty for Sherry heads to enjoy - and at a very reasonable price. As the undisputed bargain of the Soleo collection, expect it to go fast. 48.8% Alc./Vol.

...The nose offers rich fruit—plums and sultanas—with milk chocolate and new leather. The palate is silky and luxurious, with medium-sweet sherry, vanilla, blackcurrants, and treacle. Dark berries and black pepper in the lengthy, mildly oaky finish. 90 points - whiskyadvocate.com, reviewed by: Gavin Smith (Summer 2019)
No age statement, but a considerably higher abv here. That higher alcohol level really makes the sherry pop on the nose, although I also get a bit of a smoky kick here that I didn’t find in any of the other whiskies. On the palate, that smoky element lingers, giving the body a peppery, beefy note that is slightly at odds with the citrus-driven sherry notes. The beefy, smoky elements continue to reign on the finish, alongside a somewhat green note. - drinkhacker.com

Goslings Gold Rum (700ml)BERMUDAReduced from $84.99$54. 99Bottle$659.88 DozenABV: 40%In 1806, with a ship full of spirits bound for America, Englishman James Gosling ran out of wind and time. With his charter expired, James's ship, the Mercury, put in at the nearest landfall, the island of Bermuda. Knowing a good thing when he saw one, he decided to make the best of an uncertain situation. James opened a shop on the King's Parade, St. George's, in December 1806, and the Gosling Family has been in Bermuda ever since. Today, Gosling Brothers is Bermuda's oldest business and Gosling's Black Seal Rum is Bermuda's number one export. The Gosling family recently decided to expand their portfolio, and have created a distinctive gold rum by blending continuous and double pot distilled rums.
Gosling's Gold Seal replaces the old 'Goslings Gold'. The rum presents moderate aromatics including faint notes of buckwheat pancake, dilute maple syrup and raw sugar. Better defined on the palate with a semi sweet, relaxed delivery that suggests caramelised fruits, boiled lollies, vanilla bean, mocha and a dry, warming cinnamon finish. Average length. Overall, sweet and straightforward but tasty. 40% Alc./Vol.

The name Greywacke was adopted by Kevin and his wife Kimberley for their first Marlborough vineyard in Rapaura, named in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of the vineyard. Kevin registered the name back in 1992 with the vague notion that he might one day want to use it on a wine label of his own.
Fruit was sourced from various prime vineyard sites in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys and the central Wairau Plains with a portion of the juice fermented in old oak barrels.

A stroll through an island rainforest is the best way to describe this wine. A canopy of elderflower blooms, green apple, and mangosteen flesh opens the experience, while the variety’s flourishing, leafy qualities sit at its heart in the most enticing way. Notes of cut lime, papaya skin and aloe gel weave through. The palate builds with each sip – a touch of self-raising flour mealiness, a hint of lemon-butter creaminess, all carried in an overall dry style that both quenches and intrigues. Its natural arch of acidity drives the wine forward, underpinned by a low hum of power and a full force of flavour. Best enjoyed in a wide glass, to capture its full effect. Drink by 2029.

The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc was hand delivered to me in Fremantle by winemaker Richelle Tyney from Greywacke, all the way from Marlborough, New Zealand—roughly 5,200 kilometers between us. The wine leads with passion fruit and white pineapple, green apple, beeswax and brine. The wine is salty, fine and sedate—the characters are all in balance with each other. I love this wine from this small producer. It is intense and concentrated, shaped by savory phenolics and loaded with crunchy New Zealand acidity. This speaks of the place in a clear, unfettered voice, and it's brilliant for that. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2025-2030.

It's not uncommon for long-time customers to comment, "I've never had a bad wine from Nicks" . Part of the reason is that we taste and rate all the wines before you do. In fact, we offer an independent review for most of the wines on this website. Think of the "What's Hot" page as a shortlist - not only of the most highly rated wines from every category and price point - but also many of the best value spirits and liqueurs in Australia. Our selections include the most exciting wine growing regions around Australia as well as imports from around the world. Not sure what to buy? Give us a call on 1800 069 295. Let us know what you've enjoyed in the past and one of our knowledgeable staff will guide you in your choice. Unlike many retailers, we let you mix it up. Order online in straight dozens or make every bottle different to enjoy a new flavour each day. When you order more than $200 worth, get it delivered free to most areas of Australia.
