Coming Soon - 2013 Edradour Bourbon Cask Matured 11 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
These unusual ‘deluxe’ all-natural bottlings are now considered 'quintessential' distillery expressions by many, instantly identifiable by the heavy Ibisco decanters they come in. Drawn from a batch of American oak ex-bourbon barrels, this one marks a point of difference to the frequently heavily masked sherried styles. Instead, the distillate is on show, which has been compared in weight and richness to Mortlach. Serge Valentin at whiskyfun.com describes similar releases as "lovely, thick yet bright spirit." (The days when the quality of Edradour was a gamble are definitely over!) Expect notes of coconut, tea biscuits, green apples, nutmeg, cream and honeycomb. The outturn was 1997 bottles at 60% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Other reviews... The aroma is intense, typical for aging in ex-bourbon. Notes of peaches and vanilla. The flavor is bright, powerful, and intense, with a strong retronasal effect. The finish is quite long but light, with honey-fruity notes and a touch of spice. The aroma can and should be savoured, but drinking it is even more enjoyable. Watch out, 60ABV is not a joke. But i still did drink it stright and with out water. - whiskybase.com
