2015 was a fantastic vintage for Vouray where both the dry and sweet wines excelled. The vintage was marked by warm and dry conditions, resulting in ripe, concentrated wines with good depth and structure with huge scope for both drinking now or cellaring.

The 2006 vintage in Vouvray was a distinctive year that particularly shone for sweeter wines, but it also produced some appealing dry and off-dry styles. A wet spring and a warm, stormy summer made for a challenging growing season, but careful vineyard management paid off. The early autumn humidity encouraged noble rot, leading to exceptional moelleux and liquoreux wines with rich, honeyed complexity and impressive depth. While acidity was generally lower than in more classic years, well-made dry and off-dry Vouvrays offered generous orchard and stone fruit flavors, a rounded texture, and early approachability, making them enjoyable both in youth and with moderate aging.

The 2010 vintage in Vouvray was cooler and more classic in style, producing wines with vibrant acidity and excellent aging potential. A cold winter and cool spring led to a delayed growing season, followed by a relatively mild summer with some rain. Harvest conditions were generally favorable, allowing for balanced ripening. The resulting Chenin Blanc wines, particularly in the dry and off-dry styles, are marked by bright citrus, green apple, and mineral-driven precision, with a strong acid backbone. Sweeter wines were produced in smaller quantities but show great purity and finesse. A vintage for lovers of structured, long-lived Vouvray.

The 2005 vintage in Vouvray was excellent, producing wines with balance, depth, and great aging potential. A warm, dry growing season with little disease pressure allowed for slow, even ripening, resulting in Chenin Blanc with both richness and vibrant acidity. Dry and off-dry wines from this year are particularly well-structured, showcasing ripe orchard fruits, floral notes, and a firm mineral core. Conditions were also favorable for sweeter wines, with some botrytis-affected moelleux displaying impressive concentration and complexity. Overall, 2005 was a benchmark vintage, yielding Vouvrays that combine generosity of fruit with the precision and longevity the appellation is known for.

Intense ripe pear and Jonathan apple fruits flood the mouth with notions of quince, delicate honeysuckle characters and cinnamon spice lying underneath. Luscious and round in its feel it possesses fresh acidity and fans out beautifully on the long finish.

It's a real privilege to be able to taste a wine like this: aged, sweet Chenin from the Loire is a must-try style. This example isn't as sweet as something like a Sauternes or Tokaji, but it will still do a great job with cheeses at the end of a meal. It has a nougat aroma with a hint of chalkiness, while in the mouth it is intense and focussed. Flavours of dried pineapple, mango, honey and luscious tropical fruits sing out, balanced by a bright but well-integrated acidity. The finish is long and refreshing. This is from a legendary vintage and has the legs for another decade in the cellar; don't be shy, Chenin is renowned for its ability to age.

Possessing good richness and a textured, almost luscious like mouthfeel, the palate is generously flavoured with ripe pears and Jonathan apples laced with honeysuckle over some subtle quince and spice nuances. This is a fuller, richer style of Vouvray in comparison to the 2015 Domaine Pichot’s which are lighter and fresher. Medium dry with well balanced, lively acidity. Finishes well with an aftertaste of ripe pears, Jonathan apples, honeysuckle, faint quince and spice.

Revealing aromas of crisp Anjou pear, white flowers, honeysuckle and freshly baked bread, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and precise, with lively acids and a chalky finish. Drink 2021 - 2036.

The 2020 Saint-Aubin Village "Luce" comes from three parcels picked on different dates. Matured in 10% new oak, it offers green apples and fresh pear on the nose, plus a touch of melted wax. The palate is vibrant on the entry, delivering a tang of sour lemon, fine depth of flavor and veins of wild peach toward the finish. This is an excellent introduction to the domaine. Drink 2024-2040.

There is good punch to the less concentrated (though not dilute) flavors that possess an attractive mouthfeel while displaying fine length on the slightly warm finale. This too is a wine of finesse. It is important to pick Champs Gain at the right time, thinks Damien, as the lower slopes can easily get a bit ripe. Toasty barrel, good fruit behind, a bit betwixt and between, more complicated here to pull out the detail, more weight at the back and a yellower fruit, only lightly peachy. I am not finding it easy to make a judgement as to whether or not this actually is a touch too ripe, or it is just that the wine needs more time to come together. My rating may be a bit conservative her.

The palate is full of energy with impressive depth, gorgeous orange zest and mandarin notes, almond and a little walnut. Very harmonious and very persistent on the finish, this punches well above its weight. Drink 2022 - 2036.

Full-bodied, rich and incredibly textural, it should be a beauty. Drink 2022 - 2035.

A killer white, the 2019 Duche D'Uzes Alba Dolia Blanc offers a beautiful nose of honeyed peach, lemon curd, white flowers, and toast. This carries to a medium-bodied, rounded, textured white with plenty of richness yet also a fresh, lively, elegant style that keeps you coming back to the glass. It reminds me more of Northern Rhône white with its aromatics. I would enjoy bottles over the coming year or two, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this keep for even upwards of a decade in cold cellars. Drink 2020-2030.

Forty percent of this wine was fermented in oak. Brilliant very pale straw colour with a light tinge of green around the edges and a watery hue. Leaping from the glass are intense ripe pear, apple and musk aromas followed by some light quince and spice. Rich and lusciously textured, flavours of ripe pear and juicy red apple flood the mouth. Good freshness with infusions of musk and delicate quince also evident. Spicy, slightly off dry finish with a long delicious finish.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.

A pungent mix of passionfruit and gooseberries greets the nostrils with hints of lime, flinty minerals and herbaceous grassy notes also evident. Intense passionfruit and ripe gooseberry flavours flood the mouth underpinned by traces of lime, green apple, subtle herbaceous grassy characters and minerals. Finishes dry and crisp with juicy acidity and a long penetrating aftertaste.
