2023 Nicks Secret PRH Cabernet SauvignonMcLaren Vale, South Australia, AUSTRALIAReduced from $39.99$16. 99Bottle$203.88 DozenCellar: Drink now - 8 Years (2026-2034)ABV: 14.5%Closure: CorkCrafted by a prestigious McLaren Vale estate with 170 years of South Australian winemaking history, this Nicks Secret Cabernet carries serious pedigree. Going back 6 generations, the family is considered one of the industry's pioneers.
A sturdily built, richly fruited McLaren Cabernet that delivers serious value for money at just $16.99
Matured for 15 months in new and aged French oak puncheons and hogsheads. Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Expressive blackcurrant and liquorice scents are delivered with impressive intensity trailed by some spicy vanillin cedar, earthy tobacco, dark chocolate and mint notes. Rich, mouth filling blackcurrant, dark chocolate and liquorice fruits are married to earthy black olive, cedary tobacco and spicy mint characters. Firmly structured, a robust tannin framework imparts some gentle grip across the long, sturdy finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%Other Reviews….
The team have not named this wine in honour of some Downton Abbey-like hunt where gentlemen in tweed slaughter the resident population of partridge and quail. Rather, the reason is a little more prosaic. The property is on the corner of Rifle Range and Hunt Roads in McLaren Vale. No doubt the local poultry are very grateful. The wine spent nineteen months maturing in French oak hogsheads, 20% of which were new. Under cork. Black/maroon with a very dark blood red rim, the nose reveals aromas of tobacco leaves, cassis, chocolate, mushrooms, spices, beef stock and blackberries. There are hints of freshly turned earth as well. Excellent oak integration ties everything together and we can see the early signs of complexity emerging. The palate is all about chocolate. The wine is well structured with serious length through to very fine tannins. Absolutely delicious, there is much to love here. It will surely provide immense pleasure for at least twenty years. It would probably pair very nicely with either partridge or quail, if there are any left. Drink 2026-2046.

Ken Gargett – WinePilot.comSaturated, glass-staining purple colour; deep-set black fruit on the nose coupled with tidy oak that's been well handled. The wine is full-bodied and concentrated, the fruit flavour well matched by firm and mouth-coating tannins. This has power and pizzazz, driving very long through a firm, authoritative finish. Smashing cabernet that will age superbly.

Huon Hooke – The Real ReviewThis is an impressive example of McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2023 vintage. There’s a strong varietal blackcurrant on the nose with a slightly leafy overtone and a little black olive nuance. The palate carries plenty of richness and weight with a chalky thread of tannin and plenty of oak playing a supporting role. It’s balanced and poised, with good flavour intensity that extends effortlessly into a long, focused finish. It’s a pretty smart wine. Drink 2026-2041.

2025 Chateau Grand Mayne Pre-Arrival OfferSaint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE$86. 99Bottle$1043.88 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews...
The 2025 Grand Mayne reveals a fresh, expressive bouquet of dark berries, cassis and mulberries, becoming more floral with aeration. Medium- to full-bodied, it’s supple and enveloping, with a velvety texture and a refined, well-defined tannic frame, concluding with a fresh, elegant finish marked by dark berry nuances. This is a more restrained, finely tuned expression than in previous vintages, aligning closely with the estate’s recent stylistic evolution.
92-94 points
Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2025 Grand Mayne is impressive. Dark, layered and vibrant, Grand Mayne has so much to offer. Dark-toned fruit, new leather, licorice, mocha and a kiss of French oak all meld together in the glass. This big, broad-shouldered Saint-Émilion displays very fine balance and tons of character. Tasted two times. Drink 2033-2050.
93-95 points
Antonio Galloni - VinousSolid, well framed and dense. Dark berry and warm spice aromas follow through to a medium body with chewy tannins. Plenty of purple fruit character on the palate, with a chewy finish.
92-93 points
JamesSuckling.comBeautiful aromas on the nose, blackcurrants and dark chocolate. Fleshy and ripe while being so juicy and lifted, great energy and focus here, still touches of oak in the coffee, tobacco and clove elements, but the fruit has purity and this retains a much brighter, more focused expression than in some previous EP samples. Crunchy, crisp, lively yet still carrying that core of power and drive. If anything still a bit bitter on the finish but this will settle. 3.55pH. Ageing 18 months, 40% new barrels. Drink 2029-2045.

2025 Chateau Mangot Pre-Arrival OfferSaint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE$63. 99Bottle$767.88 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews...
Aromas of dark berries, cherries and plums, mingled with subtle hints of licorice and violet, introduce the 2025 Château Mangot, a medium- to full-bodied, layered and velvety wine that's intensely flavored, vibrant and penetrating. Mangot has enjoyed a formidable run in recent years, but the 2025 gives every indication of ranking alongside the 2022 as the estate's best to date. It's a blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
93-95 points
William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2025 Mangot is a soft, open-knit Saint-Émilion. Floral and silky, with gorgeous mid-palate structure, the 2025 is one of the most restrained Saint-Émilions of the vintage. Rose petal, lavender, mint, blood orange and pomegranate are some of the many notes that grace this exquisite red. Tasted two times. Drink 2028-2037.
91-93 points
Antonio Galloni - VinousFresh, precise and medium- to full-bodied with delineated dark fruit, an attractive savory touch, precise tannins that turn saline and a focused finish.
92-93 points
Jacobo García Andrade - JamesSuckling.comRose petals, milk chocolate and red cherries, such fragrance on the nose. Silky smooth, juicy and succulent, such immediate joy to be found with this wine. Great intensity of flavour - extremely fruity with crisp raspberries, cherries and blueberries alongside quite clear acidity - a citric touch - with such length. Amazing brilliance, purity and delicate. Tannins give structure and soft support but really blend into the background letting the fruit shine. Gorgeous. Fun, lifted, fresh and juicy. 3.45pH. A yield of 37hl/ha on 34ha. Drink 2029-2048.

The 2025 Bastor-Lamontagne is a very pretty, understated Sauternes. Orange confit, cinnamon, butter, baked apple tart and chamomile are some of the many notes that take shape. The 2025 is soft and creamy, deftly balancing textural presence with freshness. Pretty floral notes reappear to extend the close. Drink 2028-2040.

2025 Chateau Doisy-Vedrines (375ml) Pre-Arrival OfferBarsac, Bordeaux, FRANCE$42. 99Bottle$515.88 DozenClosure: CorkOnce part of the large Doisy estate founded in 1704, Chateau Doisy-Vedrines was named after one of the early owners of the estate after Doisy was separated into three properties in 1851. Chateau Doisy-Vedrines is now owned by the Casteja family who also own Chateau Trotte Vieille in Saint-Emilion and Chateau Batailley in Pauillac among their portfolio. The vineyard is planted to 80% Semillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle, and along with their grand vin they produce a second wine under the Chateau Petit Vedrines label. Interestingly they choose to label their wines as Sauternes, rather than Barsac as with the two other Doisy properties.
Other Reviews...
The 2025 Doisy-Védrines is an infant. Orchard fruit, citrus and floral notes are nicely lifted. This shows notable power and textural resonance. I imagine the 2025 will drink well with a few years in bottle, by which time some of the more incisive contours will have softened. That said, this is a Barsac that shows exceptionally well with age. Drink 2035-2065.

JamesSuckling.comJuicy and lively, this has a real kick to it with the acidity at the fore – tangy lemon and pineapple before slowly creamy, vanilla, apricot and pear come in. I like the style, it’s upfront and focused, less overtly sweet than some bit with real energy and grip. Great stuff here, so approachable, so enjoyable on a summer’s day. Mouthwatering and alive. Still a little spiced and angular but this will soften. Drink 2027-2046.

2025 Chateau Laroque Pre-Arrival OfferSaint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE$59. 99Bottle$719.88 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews...
Notes of dark berries, cassis, spices and licorice, mingled with delicately oaky nuances, preface the 2025 Laroque. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it’s built around a rich core of fruit that is framed by youthful, structured tannins and concludes with a taut, saline finish. While the bouquet shows a darker register, the palate remains fresh, lending the wine an elegant austerity that should integrate further with élevage.

Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2025 Laroque is a gorgeous, super-elegant wine. Vibrant, salivating acids and beams of tannin are the first signs we are on the clay/limestone plateau in Saint-Émilion's Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes sector. Blood orange, mint, chalk and white pepper bleed into a core of red-toned fruit. Medium in body, with striking energy and tension, Laroque is positively stellar in 2025. This is another superb showing from the team led by Technical Director David Suire. Tasted two times. Drink 2033-2055.

Antonio Galloni - VinousThe balance of savory fruit with fine tannins is already so attractive. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and a refined finish.

James SucklingAnother great success and value pick for Laroque. Really aromatically complex. Ripe and pristine black bramble berries on the nose, perfumed and nicely fragrant. Lovely aromatic purity. Smooth and so silky, smooth, svelte as Laroque does so well. Mouthwatering with bright acidity but so juicy – strawberry and cherry with a hint of cranberry and soft accents of dried herbs liquorice and wet stones. Grippy but so charming even at this point. Tension with freshness, perfectly polished and friendly. A yield of 31hl/ha with varying yields depending on the terroir from 25-45hl/ha. 3.40pH. Drink 2030-2048.

The super-affordable 2024 Clos Lojen comes from a year that continues the warm and dry conditions of 2022 and 2023 but with lower yields and very healthy grapes. It fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in open-top and well-seasoned 4,500-liter oak vats and matured in a combination of oak vats of different sizes—4,500-, 10,000- and 15,000-liter ones—for six months. Each plot was harvested at the right time, which seems to have increased precision in the cuvée, a fruit-driven, primary and juicy red with similar alcohol as in previous years, 12.5%, a pH of 3.6 and 5.7 grams of acidity. This is a lot more serious than a young and juicy red; it has fruit but with a complexity of flavors, a medium-bodied palate and very fine tannins. It's approachable and ideal with food, but it also has the potential to keep in bottle. It's a champion for quality/price, one to buy by the case. It has one of the lowest production volumes in recent times, 45,000 bottles. It was bottled between April and June 2025. Drink 2026-2030.

De Bortoli have been using amphora for some years now and here is a perfect example of what it can do with a wine. It was very much a handcrafted wine and was fermented and then matured in amphora clay pots for about 8 months. Something happens in this process which impacts the wine and gentle rose petals, and subtle earthy notes of Grenache. The palate is so seamlessly integrated with fine tannins, allowing the fruit to roll effortlessly towards a long, focused finish. We love this style of wine. Drink 2025-2033.

Hand picked from the Home vineyard, with vines dating back to 1984. Whole-bunch pressed and matured in French oak, 10% new, for 18 months. A tight wire of Buddha’s hand citrus, lemon gum oil and yellow peach fuzz leads the nose, followed by a flicker of toasted coconut and creamy oak dust. Quince and loquat notes weave through the profile. On the palate, it is total seduction, with acidity nestled into every crevice and undulating waves of citrus supported by orchard fruit. Nekeas was established by a number of generational growers in the late 1980’s. Hit by hard times, low grape prices and high labour costs they were forced to pull up most of most of their vines during the 1960’s. However, with winemaking still flowing through their veins a group of landholders made the decision to pool some of their resources, embarking on a project to plant new vineyards and build a modern production facility.
Fruit for the ‘El Rincon’ Chardonnay is sourced from vineyards with an elevation of 600-650m (one of the highest, coolest wine corners of Spain with huge diurnal temperature swings). Fermentation is spontaneous in top quality French oak followed by three months of aging on fine lees.

Hand harvested, whole-bunch pressed and aged for 18 months in seasoned French oak. This is a wine that consistently delivers, while ageing at a glacial rate, almost beyond belief. At five years, this is showing Meyer lemon, cantaloupe and Alphonse mango skin. Mock orange blossoms, honeysuckle and struck sandstone flint. It's easy to underestimate the impact the wines of Mount Etna have had over the last 10 years. From near obscurity, to now being some of the most highly sought after wines of Italy, led in part from producers such as Tenuta delle Terre Nere. The winery is owned by the widely acclaimed Marco De Grazia who is one of the winemakers responsible for bringing the wines of Etna to prominence on the world stage.
The red wines of Etna, produced from predominantly Nerello Mascalese, are often compared to a variety marrying the traits of Nebbiolo and Pinot Noir. Terre Nere take their wines a step further than most, and highlight the cru vineyards of the region with wines made at varying altitudes, along with vines planted on the pure Ellittico lava flow terroir. These delicate, perfumed, and intense wines translate the soil and season like few other wines in the world, and with demand far outweighing supply they are now increasingly hard to secure.

Fragrant red currant, red liquorice and Mediterranean herb scents sail out of the glass trailed by some volcanic rock, earthy incense and spice notes. The Monte Tondo vineyard can be found nestling in the gentle hills of Soave just a few kilometres from Verona on a slope overlooking the valley. Today it is 4th generation brother and sister team, Luca and Marta Magnabosco, who carry on their family’s passion for the land and its wines.
Twenty-five hectares of vineyards are situated on the best plots that the Soave zone can offer on predominately volcanic soils: Monte Tenda, Monte Foscarino and Monte Tondo. The wines produced, from 100% Garganaga, are intensely perfumed with an unmistakable Soave character somewhere between florals and fruitiness.
Brilliant water like core with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts. Pear, lime and red apple skin aromas leap out of the glass trailed by some quince and wet stone notes. Delicious pear and red apple fruits drive the palate with notions of lime, wet stone and minerals lining the back half. Nicely shaped mid palate feel with crisp acidity enlivening the long, mouth watering finish.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.

The one red that is different, produced with Monastrell grapes, is the 2024 Depaula, which for Juan António shows more varietal character this year, with notes he describes as tomato vine and balsamic. 2024 was very low yielding and ripeness was high, and the wines have more volume. This has 14% alcohol (a full 1% more than in 2023), a pH of 3.65 and 5.8 grams of acidity. The vines are getting older and show more nuance and balance each year. The grapes are from a vineyard he purchased in the village of Mahora. They fermented with 100% full clusters in 4,500-liter oak vats, where the wine matured. It's a little more serious, dark and earthy than the reds from other varieties, and it has elegant rusticity. The tannins are very fine, and the wine is approachable, but it has the seriousness the variety can have. Again, this overdelivers for the price. This is the last vintage that the wine will come from one single vineyard, as the new plantings came into production in 2025, which will add more freshness to the 2025 wine. 12,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2025. Drink 2026-2032.

This year's release sees a blend of 76/16/7/1% shiraz/grenache/mataro/viognier. Bright magenta/crimson with juicy red and dark plum fruits, blueberry and raspberry coulis. Hints of citrus blossom, medina spice, gingerbread, licorice, cured meats, turned earth and sage. Supple and composed in its travel, with fine, sandy tannins and a bright red apple skin acidity on the fade out. Drink by 2038.

Dave Brookes - James Halliday’s Australian Wine CompanionA classic Rhone-style blend painted in Barossa colours: 53% Barossa Valley and 47% Eden Valley fruit with Shiraz leading the way (76%) plus 1% co-fermented Viognier, followed by Grenache (16%), Mataro (7%). Garnet in the glass, fragrant with blueish petals, violet to the fore, as well as crushed, fresh kitchen herbs and a distant note of freshly sawn timber; there’s only 10 months of 10% new French oak in the maturation which is plenty for this wine. Styled in the crunchy, juicy, red berry flavour spectrum, crimson plums between tart and softly ripe leading the fruit, bay and sage adding their herbal edge, the palate still has decent grip in the finish to suggest its capacity for excellent matching with anything juicy and red from the barbecue.

2025 Chateau Soutard Pre-Arrival OfferSaint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE$74. 99Bottle$899.88 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews...
Another superb effort, the 2025 Soutard appears to rival the 2023 and 2022 rendition for the title of the finest wine this estate has produced to date. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries and plums mingled with hints of rose and iris, it's medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with lovely purity, refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish.
93-95 points
William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2025 Soutard takes all the qualities of this site and dials them up a few notches. Red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal and a kick of spice open first, framed by suave, silky tannins that add to an impression of finesse. All the elements are so well balanced. Drink 2028-2045.
93-95 points
Antonio Galloni - VinousA tight and crunchy red with orange peel, berry and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, racy and delicious. A very modern young Bordeaux.
94-95 points
James SucklingEngaging aromas where ripe plum and dark berry aromas are lifted by a streak of crunchy cranberry freshness. The palate shows a composed, mid-weight profile, never too high-toned, with integrated and unobtrusive tannins at this stage. I like the quiet precision to the structure, suggesting careful extraction and a respect for fruit purity. The élevage, with a measured use of oak, should gradually broaden the mid-palate and lend additional roundness, helping to knit the components together over time. Notably, the wine was served quite cool, which further emphasized its freshness and restraint, yet it still conveyed ample depth and underlying ripeness. Furthermore, the wine achieves a high degree of finesse and balance. Drink 2029-2045.

2025 Chateau La Tour Figeac Pre-Arrival OfferSaint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE$72. 99Bottle$875.88 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews...
The 2025 La Tour Figeac is soft, open-knit and quite pretty. Cabernet Franc overtones lift a core of ripe Merlot fruit in a soft, understated Saint-Émilion. Sandy and gravelly soils yield notable aromatic presence, which is amplified by 15% stems. This is beautifully done. Tasted two times. Drink 2030-2045.

Antonio Galloni - VinousSubtle and friendly, with a medium body, nice tannins and delicate fruit. Balanced is the word.
92-93 points
James SucklingDark heady scents on the nose, ripe blackcurrants with some dark chocolate touches. Quite a hands off style with lovely fruit purity and delicacy in terms of tannins and wood. A touch grippy on the finish with some cooling liquorice and stony aspects. Really well balanced and well delivered, harmonious with a lovely supple, bounce. Deep and concentrated but with no heaviness. This is really not trying to be something it can't. Fine delicate, compelling. One of the best EP samples I've tried from this estate. 3.7pH. Ageing 16 months, 30% new barrels, 50% one year, 5% amphora. Drink 2029-2043.

2025 Chateau Bellefont-Belcier Pre-Arrival OfferSaint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE$99. 99Bottle$1199.88 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews...
The 2025 Bellefont-Belcier stands out once again as one of the highlights in the Vignobles K range. It offers a lively bouquet of cassis, mulberries and cherries mingled with spices and pencil lead. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and seamless, it’s built around a concentrated core of fruit that's animated by bright acidity and framed by velvety tannins. The finish is long, ethereal and perfumed. It's a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, matured one-third in foudres, with a pH of 3.48. This is one of the most accomplished wines produced at this address to date.
94-96 points
Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2025 Bellefont-Belcier is another step forward for this Saint-Émilion estate. Aromatic and silky but with plenty of power, the 2025 hits all the right notes. Crushed flowers, mint, tobacco, incense and anise present gorgeous layers of aromatic nuance. Silky tannins frame the close. Tasted two times. Drink 2030-2045.
92-95 points
Antonio Galloni - VinousThe depth and intensity in the center palate makes you think. It’s medium- to full-bodied with very integrated, polished grape tannins. Creamy texture. A curated and transparent effort.
95-96 points
James SucklingGorgeous vibrant colour in the glass. Fragranced purple flower aspects in the glass. Supple and well textured straight away, this takes hold in the mouth and doesn’t let go with such a delightful grip - not fleshy but filling, not overly ripe, more cool with a fresh mint and flint undercurrent. Velvety, sumptuous, round, enveloping but charming with such a delicate, textured finish, chalky but soft. Excellent expression. Very St-Emilion. Delicate and hands off while still giving so much complexity and energy. 3.48pH. A yield of 33hlha. Drink 2030-2048.

2025 Chateau Tour Saint-Christophe Pre-Arrival OfferSaint Emilion, Bordeaux, FRANCE$72. 99Bottle$875.88 DozenClosure: CorkOther Reviews...
The 2025 Tour Saint Christophe, a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that matured in 20-hectoliter foudres, reveals aromas of mocha, spice, cocoa and violet. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and structured, it’s built around a firm, tannic frame with good length, concluding with a spicy finish.
91-93 points
Yohan Castaing - Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2025 Tour Saint Christophe is a stunner. Rich and explosive, the 2025 possesses remarkable depth and pure power. All the elements are so well balanced. Tour Saint Christophe is always a big wine, but the 2025 has an unusual level of finesse. Dark-toned fruit, leather, gravel, chocolate and dried herbs caress the palate. Aging the Francs in 20HL cask seems very well judged in moderating oak impact, something that has also been a signature here in the past. Drink 2030-2045.
93-95 points
Antonio Galloni - VinousMedium- to full-bodied with delineated dark fruit and precise, delicate tannins, showing good freshness, a wonderful silky texture and a subtle saline note in the finish.
95-96 points
James SucklingLovely aromatic expression on the nose, perfumed bramble and summer berry fruit combined. Crisp but sun-kissed, charming, full of brisk acidity and real energy. There’s focus and bite with cranberry fruit alongside mouthwatering blueberries. Feels a little tense still because of the acidity but there’s drive and excellent definition with a grip to the tannins that balances everything out. 3.35pH. A yield of 27hl/ha. One third of the wine aged in small oak vats and the rest in barrels. Drink 2029-2045.
